    with all the cameras and low speed limits on the increase, you have to question the need for speed on the road nowadays and this has the look a perfect little bike.

    I've noticed that many vlogers, apart from Stuart fillingham, hardly ever mention the servicing and costs involved with this old school 650 engine. From its first service interval/Cost and its constant need to have the valves checked/Cost and the general mileage to service costs its quite an expensive engine to service if you can't do it yourself.

      It is a question I ask real owners. Did it on the Meteor review. I don’t have to service press loan and everyone can Google the same info, this is why I don’t talk about it. But a real owner has an experience of it as well as maintenance. I planned an interview, which was cancelled the last minute unfortunately.

      I have an Interceptor and find servicing cost ok. I do about 7000 miles a year so with 6000 mile service interval it’s about 12 months. The 6000 mile service which includes valve check cost me £195, which I think is ok.

      These bikes are really designed with owner servicing in mind and if you can follow directions there are plenty of You tube videos showing you what to do. After doing it a couple of times most people would find it quite simple and rewarding.@@chrisdagnall8666

      Enfield made the decision to make the day to day checks and adjustments most owners do as a matter of course into a 3k miles service… BUT… that's because in their largest market, at home in India, riders don't traditionally check these things themselves, but take their bikes to 'service centres', mechanics, etc., for everything, including chain adjustment, tyre pressure checks, oil level checking, general lubing of cables etc. and even cleaning the bike in many cases.
      RE wanted to be sure the important things were getting checked so put a 3K interim service in the handbook.
      Even the full service is simple enough for a semi trained monkey to carry out… if you can't change the oil and filter on a simple bike, you shouldn't be riding… Even the screw and locknut valve clearances are piss easy if you follow instructions, and to many of us more experienced riders, it's something we grew up with on our BSA, Triumph, Norton, etc. … even BMW… bikes in our formative years (I've been on the road for over half a century… at one time 50k miles on two wheels a year professionally, but now simply for pleasure).
      I've had my RE 650 for four and a half years, and it only had the first 300 mile service, the brake re-call, and a couple of minor warranty issues, done by a dealer… I've done all the other servicing, using genuine RE filters, and best quality oils to the correct spec (unlike some main dealers I've heard of). I've always donethe servicing and maintenance on all my own bikes (I've built a few too, over the years, for street and track).
      At 20k miles, it's still on the original chain and sprockets (I changed to a 16t engine sprocket and fitted a sprung tensioner early on, and keep it properly lubed), and has given no problems. - As the first modern chain drive road bike I've owned, these sealed chains have been a revelation (I've had shafts and belts for the last 45 years). In my old despatch riding days we'd grease, and often adjust, our chains daily on the company's bikes. Today's chains, once bedded in, can often go a thousand miles or more between adjustments if lubed regularly.
      My mate had the 'greasy relay' issue (he bought from a different dealer) and when my dealer replaced his relays with the later type as a matter of course (RE had changed from the type used on earlier bikes for an improved item), the dealer changed mine to the later ones at the same time (FoC). Experienced RE dealers were aware of the Indian predilection for slapping protective grease on connectors for the long sea voyage, and would clean them during the PDI… The newly signed dealers selling the first 650 twins as their first experience of Enfields often didn't do this, and problems arose.

      @@ChrisParrett-qo4sx ur right, but... the industry and the salesmen (vloggers) don't tell you about the work that comes with real retro and not everyone got a garage/skill/time needed... so most of the bikes are rather shabby and owners end up disappointed. So yes, he is right, more costs to be taken into account (if you are a commuter and not just a sunny Sunday Rideout to the Cafe kinda guy, 3k on most retro is like 4 times a year for commuters). Guys with no hands (hipsters) would need a secretary just to organize that. 😁

    I think for so many Royal Enfield nailed it with this bike. Yes if your pockets are deep enough £4,000 more will get you a triumph T100 with a bit more power and quality components. Let's face facts though. No one buying this style of bike is riding for the adrenaline rush!!!. If you're into the adrenaline rush then you're going to buy a sports or Motorcross bike.
    The interceptor is all about the zen of being on two wheels. It's an amazing bike that fits that purpose so well at such an affordable price. What's to not like ?.

      What's not to like. For me just about everything. When I test drove one it was a nice engine surround by cheap garbage parts and the paints orange peel on a new bike is inexcusable. Then there's the cases made of a cheap grade of aluminum that tarnished sitting on the show room floor If your given a bike and expecting another one from the company I wouldn't take her word on anything. Went to the Triumph dealer test drove the T100. It wasn't even a contest. Then there's the cost of service on the RE which no one mentions. They aren't free here in the US. Enfield's first service at 300 miles is $600 US and more at other shops. Triumph's at 600 miles is $230 US at my shop. After that the service interval for the Enfield is twice as often. So it's cheap to buy but not maintain. Save up and buy the Triumph you'll be happy you did. Got my 2024 T100 Carnival for 1500 off MSRP year end sale.

  • @joe8016
    @joe8016 Рік тому +7

    Almost purchased the mr clean version but ended up getting a T100 instead. The fit and finish of the Triumph was so much better in my opinion. However, I can see these bikes having immense mass appeal because they are so much cheaper. I think RE have very nearly nailed it with this offering and a lot of new riders will be happy with their purchase. Just wish they hadn't cheaped out on some components, but this was an intentional trade off in order to keep the bikes price down. This bike is all about the feels and looking old school cool on the way to a cafe lol. Love it

      @@kristrails07 I wouldn't do touring on north american highways as it is. I would definitely want at least a fly screen on there. If we're talking about long tours than maybe something a little bigger than a fly screen would be even better. A lot of people complain about the seat comfort on long riding days... But I'm bias on that subject because ever since I put an aftermarket seat on my BMW G650GS for touring every other seat sucks for touring in comparison 😅. I like the motorcycles ergonomics though. It's nothing new. They copied an old winning formula and it works great. Hope this helps but if you have more questions or need any clarity just let me know.

      @DirkGentley42 5 місяців тому

      Hi. I test rode a brand one but wasn't impressed enough for several reasons. On reflection they were all aspects that might be solvable, or would bed in. To get a usable bike, did you feel the need to change anything? I found the suspension weird and the seat a bit of a plank. The ergonomics felt "off". The bars felt to far away, the levers at the wrong angle, plasticy grips. Like T.A.B. I kept missing the rear brake pedal. Those footrest hangers seem like an afterthought and seemed to move my feet out so to get the brake i had to angle the foot in to get the lever. However, I'm still interested in the interceptor as i think it might make a good general purpose bike, like an old Britt twin. I have a little Ducati Monster which i really like, but it's not a load carrier and I'm still anxious about giving it to much front brake in poor weather in an emergency situation. I miss my old '79 Bonnie for its do anything attitude, so looking for something modern that might get me to that nirvana (oddly enough I'm not drawn towards the new triumphs as you might expect - I can't work it out either - unless it's because they're pretending to be something they're not, whereas the enfield is at least it's own, honest take on a retro bike. I've even got used to the boiled egg shaped engine (like an A65). The enfield looks like it might be a good all around, more forgiving ride than the Ducati. I wonder if the old school geometry might handle our increasingly crappy roads (in the UK) better than the more sporty Ducati.

      Nonsense, that is parrot talk tbh…. Copper or ceramic grease has nothing to do with squeaky breaks…. Cheap (wrong) disks, cheap or glazed pads (due to wrong bedding in) or due to too much heat. etc… are more common reasons to squeaky brakes. OEM or Brembo or Nissin disks, same for pads, chosen for intended use (tour, sport, race) if new pads on older disks, break the glaze first! (Fine sandingpaper between your fingers will work) proper bedding in (not hard breaking for quite a period) etc…. And braking will be smooth (if the pistons move freely that is)

    6k+ and then you have to spend an arm and a leg upgrading to make it half decent. Triumph scrambler 900 seems a way better option

    Very honest review
    They look great but a bit heavy, unpowered a bit, tyres should be tubeless. Brakes are just ok.
    Terrible resale prices but very cool looks. Cheap to buy which is very attractive.
    I think that why the review was honest

      Check your watching quality settings. If 4k still looks trash to you, I suggest to switch to Netflix not the free to watch content creators that are doing above and beyond here.
