She's 14 now, and unfortunately hasn't found a book or series that captured her like Junie or Pinkalicious lol I always recommend Charles Dickens and Elizabeth Gaskell for classics, and some modern writers I love include Louise Penny, Ray Bradbury, and Brendan Slocumb.

@@EvesBookNook yeah i loved one hundred years of solitude by marquez! also haruki murakami (and a lot of japanese authors tbh) does magical realism really well but the way he writes women is....something

I’ve just gotten back into reading this year and loving it. I read pretty varied too, I think, not a lot of romance or horror but I’m open to trying most things, as long as the premise intrigues me.

I wish you every success and that creating videos will become as joyful a passion as reading obviously already is.

Enjoyed the video. My reading isn't too broad. I usually just stick to classics and philosophy, but I am well read in them. Occasionally I'll read a contemporary book, but usually I find their themes rather like beating a dead horse or beating me over the head, and the general style is usually pretty weak with its effort toward "descriptive" language and so on. I'm far from a minimalist, and maybe it's due to my background in philosophy, but descriptive imagery does not strike me as something important. I prefer the interior stuff or the discussions about the abstracts: what I call the "minerals" of literature; the monologues, the sorta epics of speculation - whatever broadened seeds might be planted there. I do like things of a religious nature. My own writing often reflects the religiosity of my thoughts. As long as it is done well of course. This lends well to my Latin studies. I look forward to your future vids!
Haha! I feel similarly about long swaths of imagery. I don’t mind a bit to get the gist of the setting, but usually I find myself bored and imagining the setting based on the main descriptors and glazing over the minutia. I also enjoy reading about religion, but seemingly for opposite reasons! I find myself being very critical of theism (though that position has ebbed and flowed over the years). I really haven’t read super broadly as a sceptic but it’s one of the many “big questions” I enjoy reading about when I do carve out time. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@EvesBookNook I typically take theism in broad strokes: it is on account of my personal biases as a religious-minded person - but regardless the brush I use to paint it with has long bristles. There is that quality of mystery in a lot of theological works from the past, which I'm looking particularly at Lutheranism. I feel a lot of literature now has lost that sense of the elusive: the goal ahead is so clearly defined and will come to heel beneath whatever current model we have constructed, be it in the subjects themselves - as experience -, or as an objective reality centered on specific qualities and in logical terms propositions. A lot of contemporary lit isn't very concerned with actually teaching us how to think, because the term "think" has been reductively bamboozled to the point of a perfect distinction between the concepts and themes and the language used in things like fiction, and I'd even say a lot of literary studies fall into this trap. It's why I don't take most standards of research and their bloated digestion too seriously. Lol. But that's going too deep for a UA-cam comment. Haha. Forgive me.
They’ve definitely become a trend! I love fantasy books but don’t enjoy most Young Adult books anymore- probably because I’m no longer in their target audience’s age range! Part of the massive uptick in popularity is thanks to social media- with teens connecting all across the globe there’s more awareness of particular books than ever before
