yeah, it really is sad that the era is one of men really not reading, rather then the era falsely claiming they do not. always happy to see men who do read and want to share their reading... maybe younger men will look up to them... as they seem to fail to do so for women who are their seniors, and even behave aggressively about their shortcomings being pointed out... we live in sad times i guess:(

Welcome! The part that resonated the most with me is the "Read Widely" section of the vid. I'm constantly trying to get friends and family to bust out of reading ruts they wind up in. Seems like it's modern fantasy or mystery/thrillers is all they will go for anymore. I've tried sampling a few of the uncountable generic series released in the last decade and its a frustrating experience. It's like drinking that engine degreaser from "The Matrix" as opposed to the pure ambrosia one can find in a Faulkner, Shakespeare, or Tolkien work.
I wish you luck and success on your UA-cam journey!

I've been vlogging for 10 years now, and felt myself caught in those very same "problems of my own making" for a while. So to find a brand new channel, with someone starting it purely to share their passion and connect with people with similar interests, just like we did hen this website first started, with no pretence or need to keep up with the Joneses...that has been such a boost as a creator. I've now discovered the joy of graphic novels! I can survive with only eating big meals but graphic novels have become my little "treat your shelf" moment when the big bites grow sloggish. I also try to make sure I get in my healthy dose of nonfiction books though they aren't my favorite. I have subscribed. Welcome to booktube. It's not a bad idea to look for various booktube tags as not only are they fun but they can provide the means of making extra videos if you're wanting to upload but are not ready with whatever book review you are working on.

I'm a new subscriber. I enjoyed hearing your philosophy about books and reading. As a former English teacher, I am interested in learning from you. Thanks you for deciding to share with all of us. Good luck. (BTW: "Feed your head" comes from the lyrics of Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit". )

I'm glad to see you on here! I'm very curious about your video's, especially because you're a historian and because you like old books.

Welcome to booktube Robert! Totally agree, reading expands one's perspectives. I love reading about the history of other cultures and their practices, especially ancient cultures. lol, I bring a book with me in the car in case my car breaks down too! Great to have you join the community, looking forward to more :)
