This feels like what UA-cam was intended to be back in my day, just connecting over shared interests! I am looking forward to watching you Robert Reader of Books!
I immediately thought the same!! Remember when it was real people posting real videos of their real lives?? Not this over produced money making tool. I do enjoy UA-cam as it is now, but it’s just not the same.
yeah, it really is sad that the era is one of men really not reading, rather then the era falsely claiming they do not. always happy to see men who do read and want to share their reading... maybe younger men will look up to them... as they seem to fail to do so for women who are their seniors, and even behave aggressively about their shortcomings being pointed out... we live in sad times i guess:(
I could immediately tell that you’re a college professor, your voice is so calming. Thank you for being here! I love following people who read things I wouldn’t typically read. Makes branching out into different genres less intimidating!
I have had a simply exhausting and terrible day and UA-cam recommended this to me. I felt better, if only for 17 minutes and 49 seconds. Thank you Robert, Reader of Books.
This video feels so authentic and it was also very calming. I am 28 and I consume a lot of content made by people younger than me or my age. A lot of the content is so fast paced and curated, but this felt so genuine and from the heart! I am subscribing for that reason! Thanks for joining book tube!
Welcome to booktube! I’m looking forward to hearing more about some of the books you love. I’m always glad to see more academic historians on booktube!
college student here! i could tell you’re a professor- and a good one, at that- within the first 30 seconds or so of this video!😂 i’m looking forward to hearing what you have to say!
I really resonated with the " I like politics but not politicians." Reading has always been a part of my life, and I firmly believe thru reading it does make you a better overall person. I am looking forward to you sharing your experience and knowledge.
I don't really watch a lot of BookTube, but I hit the subscribe button in the first five minutes. You seem like such a down-to-earth person with calm, grounding energy, and I can definitely see myself coming back here again and again. May the books be with you!
Robert, you are a breath of fresh air in the BookTube community and I am so glad to now have your videos in my subscription box! As a former history & political science major I resonated with your sentiment on “liking politics, not politicians” Instant subscribe. I wish I’d had you as a professor when I was in school, I think we would have had many great conversations!
Hello Robert, Reader of Books! Welcome ! I can just tell I will love your channel. No crazy editing. Nothing overwhelming and I am certain you have much wisdom and knowledge :) In your video you spoke briefly on how reading can enhance your experience of other things and mentioned perhaps Rome as a quick example. I was hoping in another video you might go into more depth or make a video on other ways that reading can enhance experience. Thanks!
'Feed your head' are the closing lines of Jefferson Airplane's 'White Rabbit'. I think they were referring to opening your mind through hallucinogens, but I like your definition better.
Hello Robert! I’m not a booktuber but I am a “Watcher of Booktube” to follow the similar title you gave yourself. I work in Government Communications, so I am happy to see a booktuber not ONLY reading fiction, as I love reading both non-fiction and fiction books. If you need someone to help with video editing or thumbnails I would be happy to help! I’m looking forward to seeing what books you talk about, hopefully I can find some new reads from what you recommend :)
I love the “Reader of Books” title! I appreciate your approach to this channel, your honesty, and your “flavor” in the reading world. It’s also refreshing to find someone who reads nonfiction in a range of topics, as do I. I’m anxious to “feed my head” with you!! Welcome, welcome, welcome! ❤
Hello Robert, I really enjoyed your video. I too feel most myself - certainly most comfortable - when, as my mother used to say, I have my nose in a book. And of course we take books with us wherever we go. Looking forward to your next posting. Good wishes.
'With age comes experience not wisdom ' sir with that line I can say for sure that you have both experience and wisdom. Welcome to the booktube world can't wait for your tbr list.
Robert! I’ve been wanting to start a BookTube channel but have been scared to. You’re inspiring to finally step out of my comfort zone and go for it :)
Welcome! The part that resonated the most with me is the "Read Widely" section of the vid. I'm constantly trying to get friends and family to bust out of reading ruts they wind up in. Seems like it's modern fantasy or mystery/thrillers is all they will go for anymore. I've tried sampling a few of the uncountable generic series released in the last decade and its a frustrating experience. It's like drinking that engine degreaser from "The Matrix" as opposed to the pure ambrosia one can find in a Faulkner, Shakespeare, or Tolkien work. I wish you luck and success on your UA-cam journey!
Your age definitely comes not just with experience but wisdom too. Love your comments on how reading helps us be kinder, takes us out of ourselves, and is so needed in a narcissistic age. Definitely looking forward to more of your book recommendations! Welcome!
Welcome Robert! There are quite a few of us more "vintage" Booktubers; the more, the merrier. I look forward to hearing about your backlist recommendations!
Welcome to Booktube! I love your advice on reading widely, I've been looking to expand my taste and pick up books I wouldn't normally reach for. I can't wait to see more of what you have to share!
Welcome to BookTube, Robert! I’m so excited to see another history and theology person here (and yes, theology that is not the cheap grace kind). Cannot wait to see what you’ll bring to the community. 🎉
Hello, Robert! Welcome to BookTube! This is a terrific "Newbie" tag video, and I'm looking forward to hearing more from you. This is a wonderful community, and I think you'll have a great time here. I'm a retired English teacher--retired after just under 40 years in the classroom--so I am always thrilled when I meet teachers here. Best of luck with your channel.
Welcome to BookTube, Robert! I already appreciate your unique voice (and oratory skills as a lecturer!) and am excited to hear your perspective on books :)
When you said you were in academia I thought, "Oh, of course!" as I realized what was so familiar about your cadence. You have college professor speaking voice. It's so different than the high energy yet monotone voice that many UA-camrs have, and it's very engaging. I bet your students love your classes.
welcome to booktube! it's always such a delight to see someone become part of the community and share the love for books. can't wait to hear your thoughts on books :)
Hi newb! Lovely first video! Sharing the love of reading with others who share that same love is a wonderful thing and showcases the beautiful and wholesome side of the internet. Happy reading! 📚 📖 📕
I don't usually comment but I just want to say that you seem like a really wholesome person and your channel sounds right up my alley. I love history and philosophy and theology as well (coming from a theology background). I also love a bit of booktube but I'm gravitating towards small channels. I love the feeling of closeness and friendship I can have with a small creator - no self important montages and pointless b-rolls (did you had your hipster home made coffee yet?), just simple, sincere talking about good books you stumbled upon. You got a new subscriber, and welcome to Booktube!
Welcome to BookTube! I was also a college lecturer in Economics and an academic data scientist. I don’t make videos but I watch & periodically comment.
I’ll be starting too, at 50 (and an English prof), in the next month or so. You’re a reader after my own heart. The Loeb volumes and Shakespeare portrait alone would have gotten my attention, but everything you said here speaks to me profoundly too. So thank you, welcome, I’ve subscribed, and I look forward to seeing more! PS- I always call self-help authors “snake oil salesman of the soul.” You seem to have the same idea!
Robert, this is so refreshing. I too love books, but I feel I have gotten away from my real likes because of the current trends. I'm excited to follow your journey and expand my reading horizons!

Welcome to BookTube, I'm excited to subscribe to your channel! Your comment that you feel most alive when reading is so relatable to me as a fellow introvert.
Good on you for starting your book-tube channel and I'm always interested in listening to peoples book reviews and tbrs. It's inspiring and gives us readers ideas of what to read next. Happy reading, from Australia.
I have subscribed. Welcome to booktube. It's not a bad idea to look for various booktube tags as not only are they fun but they can provide the means of making extra videos if you're wanting to upload but are not ready with whatever book review you are working on.

😂
Such a good way to get me hooked
exactly. Self help book is a time waste for me. If I really do need a self healing I'd rather read a slice of life book instead of a self help book.

Wholesome!!!!! Exactly.

In an era that says men don't read, it's a real joy to see you starting this channel.
