    Regarding Messi the cougar - I have already messaged the owners to thank them for their good work with him and they’ve responded. I watched one video which didn’t completely convey the cougars circumstances, so im glad I have the full story now and that Messi has a loving home who can take care of his special needs :) And THANKS for introducing me to Gumby. I’ve never seen the cartoon before!! Xxx

      @@ryangaut154 Chinchillas don't only need a large cage with multiple levels, like 5tf tall, such as a Critter Nation, but also need a lot of time out of a cage to run around in a safe place (No cords around, secure doors and windows exc). So if you are able to accommodate all of that then I would advise doing a lot of research into the care of Chinchillas before even contemplating adopting or buying one 😊

    • @ryangaut154
      @ryangaut154 5 років тому +10

      Yeah I already did all the research for them for like the past three days and I’ve covered up all the places that have cords and like I said yes already did all of the research and I know how to take care of them I was just wondering if you would be a good idea to keep one in the bedroom and of course every time I let him or her out for playtime I would especially pick up everything off the ground

      River Woods are you saying they should be kept in pairs of two. Because I read that you’re able to keep one but you just have to give them a lot more of Attention

    Aw man, i wish i could have recorded my little cousin's first interaction with my old guinea pigs (actually, first interaction with animals in general!), he was just a toddler but he was so gentle with them, he sat down on the bed and let the guinea pigs climb onto his lap, after they got used to his smell he carefully started petting them with a sweet smile on his face and eyes brighter than stars. No pulling, no screaming, he was just enjoying petting the fuzzy little creatures. Such a good, kind hearted kid, i hope he has a great future.

    My parents had ferrets before I was born until I was pretty little, around the mid/early 90s to early 00s. One of them used to LOVE rubbery things, and particularly liked TV remotes. If one was left out while he was out of his cage, he'd either steal it and take it under his couch (with all the other hoarded objects, socks and pens also very much included in that) or just rip off a few of the rubbery buttons. My parents had to replace their remote a few times.

    whats you opinion on keeping raccoons as pet's? just curious because I've seen a few videos of them as pet's and of course I think they're cute but are they really?

    • @Emzotic
      @Emzotic  5 років тому +30

      holly kinch I would never suggest them as pets! I’ve worked with raccoons for years and although they’re SO cute as babies, they turn with sexual maturity and they’re not fun to deal with they get to that age! They’re temperamental, destructive and can become possessive of ‘their’ person.

    • @sierra4350
      @sierra4350 5 років тому +15

      Back a few years ago, we found a baby racoon that was completely alone after a set of really bad storms. My family and I waited around to see if the mother would come, but hours later she never showed. My grandma used to work to help rehabilitate animals, and care for ones who couldn't go back into the wild, so we took the racoon home with the intent to find a rescue shelter. No body could take him due to the over flow of animals after the storms, so we just kept him. We didn't really want to, knowing he could have a much better life at an actual rehabilitation center for wild animals, but the poor thing was barely even weened and would have never made it in the wild at that age. We kept him, and tried to raise him to best of our abilities. He was nice and cute for a while, but once racoons reach sexual maturity they turn into little buttheads. And of course, Panda was following his instincts as he grew, and he became a little terror in our household, especially to our dogs and bird. Thankfully, we managed to find a woman who was very familiar with raccoons and how to keep them and rehabilate them. She took him in and as far as I know, Panda is doing well in the woods by her home, where he belongs as a wild animal.

We have around three different plastic boxes in the room he resides in (one hides the TV cables, one has his litter box stuff & covers the fireplace, & one covers the little area by the couch so he doesn't go behind it) & he just bites all of them. He's like a little nightmare!

    We have rescued two bucks. They were going to be “put down” (shot) because of trying to head butt children that were constantly pulling their horns and all kind of horrid things. I get SO UPSET about this because they blame the animals and just couldn’t believe the boys were not trying to “attack” my son. They are now amazing and HAVE NEVER tried to do anything to our 3 year old because he respects their boundaries.

    Hey Emma, love the video, you're always so educational.
    I really appreciate the things you said about wild cats. So many people want them as pets because it's "possible", but that doesn't mean it's right. Talking about the fact that they need to hunt, that has to be so true because I can see it even in my own "regular" cat.
    Half a year ago, a really young but strong, big and healthy-looking kitten of an egyptian mau stumbled into my garden. I let him sniff my hands and then he rolled down onto the grass and invited me to touch him. He got attached to me so much and more than four months now, he's been coming over every single day. He won't let my other family members handle him but with me, he's so calm that when I pick him up (kind of like a baby who needs to burp), he falls asleep on my shoulder almost right away. He's impossible to play with (I still do to keep him healthy and attentive) because he immediately shreds any toys within seconds. His every move is so calculated and hits, with flying toys, he even jumps up to 1.5 meters into the air to successfully catch it. There's almost no game, he snatches the toy every single time, with impressive leaps and saltos. It's so apparent he's a hunter and grew up hunting.
    Now what I meant by "he comes over", he wants to hunt at night. He doesn't even want to have a litterbox in the house, he wants to go outside to run free and hunt and I'd never take that away from him. He spends the entire day with me, but around 10pm, he becomes restless. Every time he wants in or out, there's a small window to our cellar he has learned to use as his pet door and it works perfectly, he's always welcome to be anywhere he wants at the moment. There's never been any accidents, he's never peed or pooped inside, he doesn't claw at the furniture or chews anything up because he gets all that out of his system outside. We live in the outskirts of town with fields full of small birds and mice, lots of tall trees to climb and scratch.
    Me and my family are trying to take the appropriate measures. We have explained the situation to our vet who vaccined him appropriately to the fact that he's in daily contact with the outside, that he's eating birds and mice to which she recommended to de-worm him more often than with a normal housecat and we have "chipped" him as a wild cat who has a home to go to. That was done by a non-profit organization in our city that chips these cats who have daily access to the outside, but also have families to look out for them, feed them if they are hungry and regularly take them to the vet, ensuring that animal workers wouldn't take him to a shelter if they ran into him outside.
    He's a smart boy, he's so grateful for every little piece of love and he makes me happy every day.
    Long story short, I think you can still have a great relationship with some sorts of animals and you don't have to "own" them. Maybe my story is a little unique, but I think that if the neighborhood is right, you can befriend a cat and not take their wild environment away from them.

  • @TheBurrito171
    @TheBurrito171 5 років тому +832

    Most child -animal videos are atrocious
    Parents really do NOT teach children acceptable animal interaction at all. For some reason they think that just because a child is young, they cannot learn proper interaction. It's not like you have to hurt or scream at the kid. Just supervise them *actively* (instead of passively filming for internet points), and *show them* by example that there's a right way to interact with an animal. Little kids are smart as hell. they are little sponges soaking up everything! And yet, I've only seen a small minority of parents who can actually recognize and take advantage of this to teach small children how to get along with other living things.
    It may sound like a nitpick, but in reality, a lot of the attacks that domestic animals and pets are responsible for happen to small children, and we could help drastically to set up both the animals and the children for success if we'd only do something about it.

      Completely agree, we've always had dogs from being babies but as soon as we were old enough to start asking for other animals my parents bought us a correctly size toy of that animal and we had to look after and interact with it appropriately for 2 weeks with no mishaps before they'd even consider it. It taught us to be gentle and gave my dad plenty of opportunities to get creative and make animal noises to amuse us. It worked really well and thus far none of our animals have been treated improperly or handled incorrectly just through making it a bit of a game from being ~18 months old

He grabbed my main coon by the scruff and dragged him. Of course me and his mother scolded him and showed him how to properly pet kitties. And my sweet kitty didn't scratch him or anything, he just rolled with it lol
      Of course now he's afraid of the boys when they visit but he warms up to them right away lol

    • @linelindholm7332
      @linelindholm7332 5 років тому +24

      Agree!
      I work at an aquarium where we have a touch pool filled with crabs, seastars, flatfish, eelpouts and sculpins etc.
      First of all; a lot of people bring their BABY to the touch pools. The babies don't understand anything but the fact that there is water in front of their face (the parents always hold the babies right over the water trying to point stuff out) It is such a nice thought, but the babies just hit the water and play with it
      Second; I have to stop way to many children being too harsh and wild with the animals than I should have to! The parents just stand there beside them and say nothing. The eelpouts for example don't like to be touched so they swim away. This results in children straight up HUNTING them and GRABBING them to be able to touch them. If I have my back turned it can get so aggressive that I can hear the water splashes! And the parents still don't do anything! Except after I correct their children. THEN they suddenly show their children how to do it.

    It’s a huge pet peeve of mine when people under-parent and then try to make those who care more seem like over emotional freaks. Being a parent of any social species means teaching your offspring the proper way to do things. It would be a super positive and healthy parent-child interaction if they had taught the child how to properly pet the goat, as Em said. I’ve know people who’s kid has killed multiple small pets because they don’t know how to play with them safely. Not to mention how many kids get hurt by poor interactions with larger animals. It’s better to teach your kid safe and respectful interactions.

      I agree! I personally hope my Dad and stepmom dont have a baby because
      1. I hate children, they are very annoying and immature and I already have 2 sister like that.
      2. We have 2 HUGE dogs, a female Great Dane and a male Mastiff mix. I've heard stories about people giving up their dogs because they accidentally injure the child, and I could never part with my Great Dane as we are very close.
      I already had to part with my outdoor cat Emmett because he was my grandmas but she left him with us. One day he disappeared and it turned out that he was caught by animal control, but we couldn't get him back because we didnt legally own him. The who did was my grandma, but she has enough pets as it is and so my parents sold him. I was close to Emmett as well, so I'm near tears typing this. I wouldn't be able to deal with a loss of another pet close to me.
