Hi all , I will allow myself a little additional advice, think of passing a little bit of 400 grit sandpaper before sticking your tape, the adhesion will only be better on the depron. Of course dust off well after sanding good flight everyone
Have you tried duck brand package tape? They have a really beautiful reflective incandescent tape. They also have a reflective Silver and Gold. It like 4 bucks a role. Not much is on the role though.
Balsa is a very light but difficult material to work with (dust!). Always use "Oracover" type. Only CA (danger!) sticks to balsa well. Balsa is rigid but is like clay during overloading.

As much as I tried, I didn't like working with packing tape. I used it several times on several planes and really hated working with it. I prefer using regular RC plane films. Its better quality and looks much better. Packing tape looks cheap, period.
The beauty of using something cheap like foam and tape is you can fly care free and dont have to hold in tears on your first crash, especially with a 3D plane, a lot of people dont build these to be hung on display at the smithsonian

Better use a vaccum with a couch brush

Yes I cover my airfoil in package tape. Well their basically paper airplanes.

Mister NumaVig, what is the temperature setting of the Iron ?
My guess is lowest setting.... Anything higher will likely melt the tape/foam.
