"Honor is dead. But I''ll see what I can do", that scene makes me cry every time I remember it
Honor is not dead so long as he lives in the hearts of men!
if this goes poorly, take care of my men
@@gustavosaturno6708 Never cease to give me goosebumps everytime I come across that line
Coming from a child of Honor, it just hits so much harder
"You change me 2 hunder life priceless, and i what a do is sell a one simple priceless sharblade......i call it a barger"
I'll be honest, I teared up.
Stormlight Archive changed my life, I know I know, it's sounds so over the top but it really did.
I've read The Way of Kings during most difficult time in my life. I was in such a dark place after the lose of loved ones, completely hopless, depression was creeping in the corner of my mind. And then I've met Kaladin Stormblessed... yeah, those who know, they know. No other character, no other story ever, resonaited with me as Kaladins'. In his doubts and struggles, I've saw my own. His pain was main pain because I've felt the same way! And then came his victories, his strength, his will to fight, to never give up. If he could pick himself up so cou,d I right? And I did. That book, changed my life...
It's unbelievable how nine words can change everything, Life before Death, Strenght before Weakness, Journey before Destination. These words are imprinted on my mind and soul.
And yeah #Bridge4forLife
Trust me, I feel you. Stormlight was there for me through some really rough times as well, and jeez just thinking about certain scenes gets me to tear up. It's just too good!
*Bridge 4 Salute* One of my favourite quotes in a later book: (SPOILER)
Kaladin said. "You told me it will get worse."
"It will," Wit said, "but then it will get better. Then it will get worse again. Then better. This is life, and I will not lie by saying every day will be sunshine. But there will be sunshine again, and that is a very different thing to say. That is truth. I promise you Kaladin: You will be warm again."
@@HarshReviews this is unrelated but i like your profile picture. (leonardo watch)
Kaladin DEFINETELY resonated with me from the beginning but I remember reading RoW, reading a story about a dog wanting to become a dragon and I just needed to take some time. That by far was the thing that felt the most personal to me. This series has totally changed my life and I will not ever forget it.
I absolutely relate to this so much ;-; Kaladin is just my favorite character in.. literally anything, and I don't say that lightly. I relate to him so strongly and he's the best and most realistic(at least with how I've felt)representation of depression I've seen.
I'm so glad he helped you too!!
What I love about this series is it realistically portrays many different psychological disorders. Anxiety, depression, PTSD, addiction, and many others. But not just that, it also shows the people learning to deal with them and growing as people and healing from their pasts
And not doing the typical "haha magic, depression begone". I've read so many stories were the portrayal is good but they just... disappear as if it was that easy. I love how stormlight takes time to show those problems, show that it's not something that goes away because you're a "hero"
This is so true!
@@hazamax2139 IMO it goes further. They're heroes _because_ they're broken.
Agreed! In fact, in many ways they never get “cured”. They learn to go on and push forward.
And then there's Moash..
"You can't have my pain." still sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it.
The most important words a man can say are, “I will do better.” These are not the most important words any man can say. I am a man, and they are what I needed to say. The ancient code of the Knights Radiant says “journey before destination.” Some may call it a simple platitude, but it is far more. A journey will have pain and failure. It is not only the steps forward that we must accept. It is the stumbles. The trials. The knowledge that we will fail. That we will hurt those around us. But if we stop, if we accept the person we are when we fall, the journey ends. That failure becomes our destination. To love the journey is to accept no such end. I have found, through painful experience, that the most important step a person can take is always the next one. I'm certain some will feel threatened by this record. Some few may feel liberated
This is probably the greatest quote I have ever heard, alongside Eddard Stark's seemingly quote on bravery. Dalinar's arc just hits so hard and its so beautiful. The greatest redemption arc I have experienced
This is my personal favourite quote from all four of them.
Excuse me! I think you're forgetting 'I am stick.' and 'life before death strength before weakness journey before pancakes.'
I also have 'The most important steps a man can take isn't the first but the next, always the next' tattoo in women's script.
My favourite part of that is the answer to "What is the most important step a man can take?"
I'm hoping Szeth's arc in book 5 is just as amazing. Or at least full of Nightblood being Nightblood.
Every time an Ideal is accepted, every battle, or duel, or conflict, every conversation about honor, and pain, and life, every moment is amazing in this series. I mean literally the 4 books have an epic moment to be remembered and evolution in every character.
Brandon Sanderson is one of the greatest authors of our time, and in my opinion the greatest modern fantasy author
The Stormlight Archive is my favorite piece of fiction. I thought that Lord of the Rings would never be toppled in my heart as the greatest fantasy epic until I started the series and after Oathbringer, I was 100% sold that this is the best that storytelling gets. I have never cried reading a book before until I read the climax of Way of Kings, and then with almost every subsequent title from Sanderson I have read. Ironically, the scenes that really got me to my core are not harrowing and sad, but heroic and uplifting. The books distill what is the best in humanity, and further develop the idea/term Tolkien invented, the "eucatastrophe". Sanderson sets up moments that allow the light to shine through the darkest situations in such a satisfying way because these tend to be linked to character struggles that are deeply personal. To struggle through the pain, find better paths within yourself, and impose them onto the world around you. There are quotes from these books that have shaped me as a person, and who I want to be in my life. They have inspired me to try to be better than I thought I could be. "Honor is not dead so long as he lives in the hearts of man!" "If I must fall, I will rise each time a better man." "I will protect those I hate. Even if the one I hate most is myself." There are so many fantastic and touching ideas in these novels that I can't go a day in my life anymore without thinking on them.
"I accept there will be those I cannot protect". Words can't explain the ups and downs I've experienced with this series. The amount of tears of both joy and happiness I shed just in the chapters surrounding that quote. I wholeheartedly believe it's only a matter of time the cosmere gets to be the "new big thing" not for readers but in pop culture.
The moment when Kaladin toke Odium and Murdered the Defeated One.... Damnation!
It makes sense that the internalization of the prior three oaths preclude this one. And why this truth stings as it does to the few wind runners that progress this far.
I will protect those I hate, even if the one I hate most is myself.
“Honor is dead, but I’ll see what I can do” I can just see this in my head, most hype moment to ever appear in a book
I love Kaladin and he DEFFINITELY IS my favourite character. But if i had to say which quote is my favourite is Dalinars"The most important step a man can take is always the next step"
Especially since most people will respond to the question of "What is the most important step a man can take?" with "The first one, duh." It's great to see Dalinar get past this false answer to the true one.
Dalinar's entire character journey in Oathbringer is ridiculously good.
This quote has gotten me through some very tough days
Same, my dude. Same.
no but for real though, reading Stormlight literally helped me heal from a ten year long depression. It's the most uplifting, inspiring story I've ever read and I have the Bridge Four glyph tattooed on my arm to always remind me. "Fleet kept running". And so will I.
Kaladin's Rythm of War ending is just WAY too much for me. I honestly can't take it. Every time I think about it I just want to cry all the tears and shout all the hype and there's to much to process
Imagine if Ufotable adapted it with Hiroyuki Sawano's as composer, it will be anime of the year consistently. Especially Words of Radiance.
Nothing could even compare
That Oathbringer battle though! Would love to see that animated! 😍
I agree. I think the only way to make the story look awesome is to do it in anime. The fight in front of the storm with kaladin and szeth would look great animated.
That would be amazing!
Hiroyuki sawano making music for stormlight would be a dream come true I think I'd die
I will protect those who cannot protect themselves! ~ Always sends chills down my spine 😊
Stormlight has infinite quotability.
I will protect those I hate... even if the one I hate most is myself
Spoilers ahead:
I will accept that there are those that I cannot protect.
Kaladin's Third Ideal is the one that hits me the hardest, because I too have the struggle of wanting to protect EVERYONE, but I am only one person. So it follows that I realistically cannot protect everyone. Only those within my reach, and those who I actually have the capability to protect. And while Kal has greater reach, and greater capability, he is still only one man, and of course, can not possibly protect everyone, despite his fantastic power.
@@KlausDieFuchs I find it interesting that even as he spoke that ideal the way his shardplate works it allows his to protect many people over a large area. He may accept he can't protect everyone but he'll do all within his power to make that number as small as possible and his shardplate exemplifies that

Honestly, this book series is what inspired me to actually try writing. The knowledge that creating something as good as the archives is possible is crazy to me. This book will always hold a special place in my heart, and I hope that more and more people get the chance to experience this book.
I feel ya. I wish I could write something a 1/50000 of sanderson
Exact same thing for me. Stick to it my friend, journey before destination!
As someone who struggles with depression my self, Kaladin has been a huge inspiration when I'm at my lowest. Just reminding myself "you will feel warm again" got me through some really hard times
This story change my life for the better, at the time i was reading it for the first time i was struggling with really strong depression, i had thoughts of ending my life and the only thing keeping me going was my need to find out where the story was going.
At the end of book 3 when syl says "Maybe is time for someone to save you" i felt like the book was talking to me, next day i woke up and took the decision to start talking therapy.
I love every thing this story has to tell and i loved seeing kaladin finally starting to heal from all his trauma in book 4.
Dalinar's story is to me, what Kaladin's story is to you. It changed my life, and allowed me to overcome a very difficult time in my life. These books make me cry every time I reread them, especially the climax of Oathbringer. 'You cannot have my pain' and 'each time I must fall, I will rise a better man' are now mantras for me.
This book series literally got me through a very suicidal point of my life. It inspired me, particularly Kaladin and Dalina; the latter being my new favorite example of a redemption character
"Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination." Are the words that are etched into our soul after reading the Stormlight series. He should also cover other books from cosmere.
For so many reasons...so many... this is definitely my favorite story i’ve ever consumed in any medium. No story has ever felt so real
Stormlight archives is literally the best book series ever.
I remember looking through audible at the top high fantasy books that I could listen to at work, and I looked at the way of kings and said: "Oh, this seems interesting. I'll give it a go."
I used a free credit, bought the book, and got hooked early on. I don't think I shivered so much before. The constant twists and turns kept me hooked onto it until I had binged the entire series and the novella. Brandon has turned me into a fan for life, even though I ended up spending about 100$ total on audible just to listen to Storm light and Mistborn.
Ya me too. I own physical copy, digital, audible, and graphic audio, lol
"Honor is not dead so long as he lives in the hearts of men!”
Not to be dramatic but the storm light changed my life. The most best series I have ever had the pleasure to read (well actually listen, since I use audible)
I can't describe how I love this series and how it saved me when I was in the worst moments of my life, it broke me and forged something better with the pieces, and kaladin Is also for me the best character in any media, I love him and relate to him in a way I didn't knew it was possible, I read this books EXACTLY when I most needed them, and for that and much more, they will be Always my #1
I can relate
Remember the ten spears.
You were always enough, maybe just needed a little bit of help to realize it.
Life before Death
I'm still listening(Audiobook) to Oathbringer...and Chapter #94 called "A Small Bottle" is where Dalinar realizes he's starting to hate his sons...and begs god to help him while weeping.
I am not afraid to admit that even as a grown man I cried at that. And it is far from the first thing this series has made me cry at.
Honestly I think Szeth also has a great character arc, but nothing beats Kaladin.
Shallan in Words of Radiance was pretty close
@@nicokrasnow1851 true true
The time for Szeth is coming and it will be great I know
@@FerDiazdeLeon the 5th book will be Szeth's, its already been confirmed by brandon.
Dalinar in Oathbringer is some of the greatest character work I’ve ever read!
This is going to go down as one of the all time classics, and I’m so proud to be here for its creation

Kaladen jumping down is one of my favorite moments in all of fantasy. Keeping it vague for spoilers.

This truly is the most inspiring story of all time.
This series is by far the best books I’ve ever read. I’m glad I’ve found anither Sanderson can (:
Kaladin is crafted in a way that allows anyone who has reached a certain age or lived through particular experiences to identify with him. His character is written so skillfully that this Connection feels inevitable. Few characters inspire as much as he does and I'd love to get to know more characters like him.
I love the Stormlight Archive, it is a beautiful, emotional and awe inspiring story. I’m thrilled to see more people talking about it.
"IT'S ABOUT WHAT'S RIGHT!!" 😭❤
Caught up recently, fantastic series. I plan on reading Mistborn Era 1 and Era 2 next
Era 1 and 2 are different tonally, so give yourself a break in between. But up to you :)
Might pick this up
If one day this series ever gets an adaptation I hope that Sanderson decides to go with animation, I feel like no other medium would be good enough for the greatness of the Cosmere
I can't put into words how important the Stormlight Archive is to me, how it affected me on a deep persnal level and how much i love it's characters.
It was the first big book series i ever read, i had never read a book with more than 800 pages before, and by the end of Rythm of War i was wishing it was longer cause i didnt wanna finish it, i BEG everyone to read these books
Beautifully done. I started Rythm of War recently, and I have to say, it's quickly becoming one of my favorite series as well. Life before death, radiant.
I just finished The Way of Kings and words cannot describe how I feel. How I feel, diving into and through the pages. "Epic" is a common word used for good fantasy-books. But this book has "epic" written through all the pages. (I once said to a friend of mine: "I can't read it, it's too epic" and he responed: "Don't worry, it'll get even better")
I can't remember meeting a fictional person that I can relate to as much as within these books. It breaks my heart, brings me joy and tears.
I would always and never recommend the books to others - with the wish to share and the fear they might not understand its beauty.
Another cosmere video pogersss!! A beautiful analysis as always and I’m saving this video in case I want to convince a friend to read it!
LETTTSSSSSSS GOOOOOOOOO, GOAT book series in the making
Peak fiction fr
I literally added this book to my goodreads to-read list solely because I loved your Haikyuu reviews, and if you have good taste in anime, you're bound to have good taste in books too😌
Awww appreciate that a lot dude! If you loved the hype in Haikyu this is definitely your cup of tea
@@HarshReviews thank you, will definitely read these!
You wont regret it. It is impossible to regret experiencing Stormlight Archive. I wish you all the best on your journey to come.
Hunter x hunter probably for me the best fantasy of all time, the combat system of Nen is very complex and offers varieties of countless potential. With unique outline characters with their own charisma and introspect of psychopathic characters on the othrr end of human spectrum. Plus the dark continent coming up the only stopping it from becoming the best is the authors health which is not at best currently. No other fantasy might be able to top the Hxh for me not even onepiece.
i drive a lot, at least 2 hours a day. i have listened to these books multiple times over the years, always find myself starting them up when i am not sure what to listen to. i love this series!!
Oathbringer was the first time I cried at a book, and then Rhythm of War got me three times with three chapters back to back. Amazing series.
Your words definitely show that this story is your all time favorite after all. When someone talks about the things he loves and admires then there is honesty and relatability in words that attracts the audience. Your content has always been relatable and honest so keep up the good work! You've inspired me to watch Run With The Wind before and I totally loved it and now I wanna read these books so badly lol
Wish you great success in your career as a UA-camr and in life generally ^_^
I appreciate that homie, thanks so much for the kind words :)
It's worth it, but I gotta warn you that Sanderson can get a bit too wordy like George rr Martin, I honestly had to put down the book multiple times because he drags on the scene. And it's a 10 book series, only 4 books are out.
@@GenerationIcarus I'd say 1/10 readers I talk to say that about these books. The other 9/10 digest it, and binge read huge sections at a time.
@@LionelTurgeonSPOILERS
it's the interludes and there's some characters I just don't care about. Shallan's chapters are hard to get through for me, I appreciate that she's a flawed character and she does some cool stuff, but first impressions matter. I do like her when she is interacting with other main characters though.
If you're into fantasy and/or anime at all, you should do yourself the favor of reading these. The entire series is just amazing.
Do keep in mind that The Way of Kings may not hook you in right away - you have 3 prologues that won't mean much to you until later, and the opening chapters with Kaladin and Shallan have maybe a bit too much worldbuilding and exposition going on. Many people will tell you that the book "drags in the beginning" or "gets going slowly" and depending on the type of reader you are, it may be hard to get into.
But keep at it. Once Kaladin reaches the Shattered Plains (it is, admittedly, a couple hundred pages in), you're in for a real treat. And the final fifth of the book - called, appropriately enough, Part 5 - is an incredible, non-stop thrill ride with one the most satisfying endings of any book I've ever read.
Oathbringer changed my life! Life before death, Radiant.
I can't wait for the day when Stormlight Archive becomes mainstream and I can talk about it with random strangers I see on the street.
My favorite characters are the lil bald guy that got thrown in bleach, and the Kholin family. I just love that entire family so much, each individual character, and also their dynamics amongst each other... well, I love them all except for Elhokar, Gavilar, and Gavinor. (Gavinor hasn't done much yet, and doesn't have enough personality yet.) But Dalinar, Renarin, Jasnah, Evi, Navani, and Adolin are just sooo amazing!
god i love this series so much. its my all time favourite book series (and ive read *quite* a few). sanderson is such a phenomenal writer.

I LOVED how you said that this is a story that people who love anime and manga would appreciate because YESSSS.
I only just finished the way of kings, and I hadn't got over it enough to start the other books that I am actually rereading it.
I soooo want my friends who love anime and manga to read it so that I can gush about it with them. But the books aren't translated to the language of my country, it's so frustrating :').
Definitely agree with everything you've said about Kaladin, he's a true inspiration, I would read the books just for him., even though I do have a soft spot for Dalinar as well :').
Using fanart throughout the video made the events breathe with life, it was beautiful :').
When I recommend the story once it is translated (soon hopefully :')) to my friends, I'll make sure to remember to make them watch your almost spoiler free video to get them hyped and motivated.
I just finished Rhythm of War. I honestly don't know how Brandon is able to write such incredible protagonists. I love *all* of them from all of his books. Kaladin and Vin are standouts, but as we learn more about every protagonist, it boosts them to their same level each time. I'm sure once Dalinar and Shallan's stories are wrapped up, I'll consider them up there as well. The guy just knows how to make people you can Connect with.
True kaladin is a soul of stormlight other characters are interesting and I wish that the series could do justice to them since kal's character was written so wonderfully i think other characters sometimes don't get the time and moments they need on page. Because I love kaladin i don't have issue with that.
“The most important step a man can take. It's not the first one, is it?
It's the next one. Always the next step, Dalinar.”
How can i love a series that i havent even read yet??? What a beautiful video man, congratulations. "This is how a story becomes real." I'll do you a favor and recomend the comics series named 'SAGA' to you. Take care
A friend of mine recently started reading the Stormlight Archive (like a month, maybe a month and a half ago) and when I came over he showed The Way of Kings to me, which he'd already finished, and he lent it to me when I came back from a trip, I read it in like 2 weeks or so, and I'm a pretty slow reader. I went on another trip recently and decided to buy the first two books (the first which I've already read and also Words of Radiance). I'm currently around 600 pages in and I started reading it four days ago. I've just gotta say that I'm loving it so far, and it doesn't seem like that's gonna change any time soon.
I rarely comment on youtube, but man your video said exactly what I always wanted to tell my friends about this series. Kaladin is my fav!
Just started reading the The Stormlight Archive. Looking forward to the experience
As a big fan of the Stormlight Archive, and the Cosmere as a whole, it’s wonderful to see it getting more recognition!
And I agree with you about this series taking the world by (High)storm-I honestly believe it’s going to be the next Star Wars or Arcane sometime soon.
Jiust finished book 4. been reading these books since i was 12. Best books I have ever read. Rhythm of War made me cry

“I will protect those that I hate. Even if the one I hate most…is myself.” 🥺😢😭
The Way of Kngs literally turned me into an avid reader. I had no idea a book could transform my life the way it did. The way of kings is so meticulously crafted that it feels like I'm reading non fiction history from a different realm.
Sanderson is such a perfectionist, I doubt we will ever see this series come to life. Production would be 'Avatar Level 10'
Completely agree!! Best books ever!! Well done video!
I Liked much the "Wheel of Time" book, where Sanderson wrote the end - so I came along with him and started reading "Stormlight Archive" - result: I lik them more 🙂
I really loved the series, and Kaladin is a big reason for it.
the story of Kaladin Stormblessed is prob one of the greatest pieces of literature ever written once you have read it its over. ive read hundreds upon hundreds of books and seen alot of movies and television but nothing compares the only thing that does is the audiobook version its mindblowing.
Absolute favorite series
My friend at multiple parts throughout the video: He's clearly overselling the book series, that can't be accurate
Me, an intellectual who has read all 4 books: Actually, he's right you know
(Also I recommend hearing the audiobooks on audible, the voice actors did a phenomenal job, certainly *S* tier)
I will never get over how good both the books and the audiobook readers are
Graphic Audio is twice as good as audible version of audio book. There is no comparison.
@@LionelTurgeon graphic audio...? Elaborate please
@@ShinMalphur Spoiler
ua-cam.com/video/R4-l1ALgid4/v-deo.html
@@ShinMalphur graphic audio has a separate voice actor for each character, as well as sound effects and music to accent the scenes. Because of this, the narrator also doesn’t read most of the dialogue tags or sound effects. It’s pretty unique, and while it can be distracting for some, it is cool.
It is way, WAY too expensive for my tastes though. I’ve listened to a few through… ahem… HIGHLY legal methods, if you know what I mean. And they were good, just not worth the asking price in my personal view.
Also, your username indicates you are a man of culture. Nice. Keep quick on the draw with the Golden Gun.
I'm impressed you've given a good, appropriately epic summary and reasons to read the Stormlight Archive in under 10 minutes. Stormlight is my favorite series of all time and had carried me through my hardest times in my life. The fact that the characters keep going and keep trying to do better is an inspiration to me, and this series has carried me through the hardest spots in my life.
And if Kaladin's story is somehow not enough for you, Dalinar's story will damn well be plenty. YOU CANNOT HAVE MY PAIN!
Exceptional work my friend! Fantastic editing and a brilliant intro to this fantastic series.
You got me hyped and I've read the series 4 times!
Thanks Connor, I really appreciate it! :))
i like your passionate style dude. this video made me look forward to reading these books even more
In my opinion what sets apart the stromlight archive from other books is first and foremost the detailed world building and the imagination of a complete "magic" system with actual set rules, a lot of unknowns and mysteries which are being revealed throughouot the story. The characters are great, but if the world was lacking all this detail, the story would't be half as good.
The biggest difference between Brandon and other authors afaik is that he takes real effort to write several drafts and has a ton of qualified people giving him feedback and proofreading, which makes this story so engaging and reamopves almost all major plot holes and inconsistencies which would break the immersion of the reader.
And in contrast to other authors I won't name *cough* George *cough* or *cough* Patrick *cough* he actually is really productive and finishes his stories, for example with Mistborn also with an ending that wraps up the whole trilogy nicely and where you're like "hey, I would actually read the whole thing again"
Best ongoing fantasy series being published! we r witnessing the birth of a classic and this is what it feels like
This series has been the only books to ever make me audibly cheer or yell.
I read The Way of Kings over the course of about 4 days. I just could not put it down, and I have been obsessed with all things Cosmere ever since (with Stormlight being the absolute pinnacle). It is the book that turned me into a reader at 35 years old.
I READ THE SERIES, i love brandon and as soon as i opened the video i had goosebumps and shivers
OMG I FRICKN LOVE THIS SERIES SO MUCH!!
Oh heck yeah. I love seeing people talking about this book and recommending it. I’ve never really been a person to cry when watching movies or books, but book 4 made me cry twice in the same chapter (chapter 80 for those of you in the know) because it was so relevant to my personal struggles at the time and it hit me on such a deep emotional level. I’ve never been that impacted by another story before.
Reading warbreaker right now so I can hop into oathbringer finally. I can't wait
Such an amazing video, thank you for sharing your thoughts. 🙏
