Dr. Fung (@drjasonfung), i've always wanted to ask how is Ozempic (and similar) drugs any different, in the end result, than fasting? I asked myself this question, then saw your videos and I am now a regular faster. I've done multiple 3 day water fasts and have lost quite a bit of weight and have managed to keep it off.

My experience with ozempic was the complete opposite of this. I had no nausea or illness but real food tasted like dirt and I couldn't stop eating junk food. I hadn't eaten junk food in 5 years prior to starting this drug. I gained 20kg in 6 months on ozempic and finally found the courage to just stop taking it despite being told that I need this medication and to keep increasing my dose. I'm now losing weight and feeling great with a clean keto diet. No junk food cravings anymore.

I was off of it for about 2 years, for insurance authorization reasons, but now am back on it again and doing great. It’s a good drug for my diabetes.

Wow this is so interesting as there are so many different response to our bodies being on ozempic. I was on it for a year for diabetes2 and on keto with v v low carb. I experienced 1 kg weight loss for the entire year which I gained back with a little more. There was absolutely no change with my blood sugar levels of 13+ daily morning fasting ( during the day my levels were between 3.5-6) . I went off it and tried my mom’s diabetic medication for a day, sugar was down to 8 the next morning!!! Now finally after lots of trial n error I am seeing some results on both weight and glucose drops in morning 5-6.5 🙌🏽🌈💜

When you are diabetic or pre diabetic nothing helps with weigh loss. Your hormone insulin has pooped out. Which is one reason someone like me doesn't pay for the drug. Second is my bmi which is 32 because even on keto for a year and eating once a day, I lost less than ten pounds. My insulin HORMONE isn't working.
Wouldn't matter what I try. That's science, it's on paper and my blood panels show I'm in amazing health and eating healthy EXCEPT my hormone pooped out. So it's not really fair to blanket what you blanketed.
You're very lucky to be able to fast and stay small. Careful because the HORMONE poops out for alot of women in middle age which is why we get fat.
Just saying.. Research more you will learn more.

6:18 This is what I like about Dr Fung: he gets that hunger is central to weight gain/loss, as in the long run hunger determined how much we eat, and thus drives how many calories we consume. It's all about how hungry we are relative to how many calories we actually need.
That's why telling patients to count their calories, or to control their portion sizes, or anything like that, is always going to fail, because it leads to hunger. People, in the long run, eat until they are satiated, and that depends on all sorts of factors beyond the exact number of calories they have consumed. Two meals with the exact same calories can have vastly different abilities to curb your hunger.

    • @Vexarax
      @Vexarax 4 місяці тому

I lost all my weight using fasting (went from an XL to an XS in 6 months) :) BUT a lot of people don’t count calories correctly. All you’re meant to do is eat an appropriate amount for your underlying body size, but you can do this by eating huge amounts of heathy foods that are low in calories in one or two meals each day. You don’t have to be hungry at all, but can still become slim and healthy.
If you’re only eating one meal a day but overeating (like stuffing your face with chocolates and ice cream etc) you won’t lose weight. You still have to be aware of what you’re eating.
I never counted calories personally, but also entirely changed my diet so I knew I was eating high volume foods lower in calories (like huge salads with steak and many different kinds of plants and vegetables in) :)
Counting calories “doesn’t work” only because so many people do it wrong and eat like a tiny slice of pizza instead of a massive steak salad, both of which have the same amount of calories lol

QUESTION : my 80-yr old mom has been diabetic for 25 years or so, she has horrible eating habits and an insulin pump. She sometimes has dangerously low dips in the middle of the night (40 😳😱). Is there any way to EASE her into fasting?
Also, when her sugars start to drop (100-70) then they plummet.
She thought the pump would help normalize the crazy ups and downs (she’s had it five years) it has not.

A close family member was taking Ozempic for her diabetes and she ended up with her colon paralyzed, severe blockage and an infection. She ended up being rushed in for surgery and is having a lengthy recovery time. I thought this video was a plug for Ozempic, but it’s not, thank goodness. Great explanation on how the medication does work when it’s working to decrease hunger and increase satiety and not a plug for Ozempic at all. There has been a website established for people who have claims associated with Ozempic so it seems there are many instances of health problems associated with the medication. I believe fasting is a far better method for weight loss than any drug and I’ve only come to that conclusion recently. It only makes sense that via the weight loss that can be achieved with fasting it can help prevent and possibly reverse diabetes. Ozempic, appears to have harmed far more people than it has helped in my opinion and shouldn’t be in the market.

I have no problem with intermittent fasting (18-6) and a low carb diet. My problem is late night snacking because I have a bad habit of going to bed very late. Around 12 midnight, I get the munchies or cravings and I end up snacking. The bad thing is that I’m not even hungry and just do it out of boredom and/or habit.
On my last Dr’s visit, he suggested I take Ozempic to lose weight but I declined it. I don’t need meds to help me feel full. I do get full with my normal portions of food. It’s just the bad habit of late night snacking that ruins any effort I make to do my intermittent fasting effectively. I also need to be more active. As a borderline diabetic I need to get a grip and make some lifestyle changes soon. ☹️

Snacking at night is a hard habit to break but it can be done. I trained my body a little at a time beginning with no eating past 9pm and before sunrise. Years later I have no desire to eat at night. Absolutely none. Ghrelin waves are intense around 4-5 pm. But even fasted, by 6 pm ghrelin calms down and I'm good for the night.

I used to have the same eating at night problem. I never got ahead of it until we moved our large meal to 3 to 4 hours earlier in the day. This was not possible until I retired (my husband had already retired). I was willing to try this, but doubted it would work. I’m not that hungry at 2pm, but we eat the main meal of the day by 2pm on most days. The first few days I was still hungry late evening, but then 3 to 4 days in, the evening hunger DISAPPEARED. I was shocked. I seldom experience hunger or “munchies” now, and it’s great. I hated that feeling. I still mentally know what’s in the fridge or the pantry, but I have no desire to get up and eat. If your lifestyle permits eating your main meal much earlier, give it a try.

Thanks for sharing. You make a good point about that mental power. Most of us, especially those of us who follow Dr Fung and Meghan Ramos, know what to do and just a bit of honesty gets to the root of our problems. We all need to get a grip and be honest with the type of food, how much we eat and when we eat. Once we do this, then is about respecting ourselves and our decision to get healthy and stay healthy. I am saying this to myself😅 our minds are incredible, I am trying to make that mental switch myself.

So what the video is saying is Ozempic is a good thing? My understanding was that it wasn't. I've read that a significant amount of the lost weight was muscle, not only fat, which in my mind would reduce your basal metabolic rate and therefore you'd gain the weight back if you stopped? My understanding from the obesity code was that caloric restriction was not the key, but eating window was the key, because simple caloric restriction reduces your metabolism, where a reduced eating window would not. How does Ozempic affect the metabolism? Would you really recommend it over simple intermittent fasting?
I find the messaging in this video confusing.

I absolutely agree with you. People are going to be in search of this because they want to lose weight forgetting that it's not weight that matters it's body fat percentage. And so in the search of what people consider health and then taking this drug... All we're doing is hooking ourselves on one more prescription for now and a whole bunch later when our bone density starts to suffer and when falling down and breaking a hip kills us.

y’all, muscle loss happens during all forms of rapid weight loss. ozempic has no mechanism to uniquely cause extra loss of muscle mass. people lose weight on ozempic because they intake less food due to decreased appetite and therefore burn through stored fat. the exact same process that happens during a calorie deficit. seriously, try educating yourself.

    • @Lorij24
      @Lorij24 5 місяців тому

@@linedpaper5374 I absolutely agree with you, but the problem is that we've been fed this idea of weight loss and body weights for a very very long time. So when people simply go in search of a calorie deficit or weight loss, there is inherently a loss of bone density and muscle mass because we're not prioritizing resistance training or consumption of protein at the same time. This is yet another drug that is pushing this concept of just losing weight as an ideal standard to work toward. I think that the damage is in the intentional ignorance.

I recently came across the “Glucose Godess” and I have learned ALOT about Glucose and its effect on the body. I highly recommend everyone to check it out because it will make a huge difference on your overall health and her “hacks” are extremely easy to implement.I have been easily combining them with intermittent fasting.
Anyway, apparently the liver releases glucose into the blood stream in order for muscles to get energy when a person is fasting and that had me wondering if that technically breaks a fast.

It's important to eat nutrient dense foods
and get away from the common nutrient depleted foods in the (SAD) Standard American Diet. Fake foods that are high in calories, low quality and have little to no nutritive value. (It's mostly grains, seedoils, sugar, sodium and chemicals)
Our bodies need and crave vitamins and minerals, enzymes, amino acids, flavinoids, phyto chemicals and other compounds easily assimilated by our bodies, only found in Nature not a Labratory.
These vital nutrients are not in, but taken out of processed foods for shelf life and profits. Not to mention all the toxic chemicals and additives in coporate mass produced "food products... they call it "food product" because legally and technically it's not food.
We are all sick, fat and hungry because we aren't getting what the body is craving for and that's Critcal Nutrients in their proper un- molested form.
Grow as much of your own food as possible in living soil and buy locally from farmers using regenerative farming practices.
    Avoid eating Corporate frankenfoods.
Good health To all on this Earthly Journey.
    😇✌️
    (edit)
Had to laugh at the ad that ran during this video for a 1 month supply of Ozempic for $225.00...
    Thats insane.
    Don't be fooled,
