Thank you so much for posting this. I grew up in the south and fried cornbread was a staple. So was pinto beans and onions and collard greens. Not to mention fried catfish and a bunch of other deliciousness that I haven’t mentioned. I would love to see more of your stuff

Fried cornbread is very popular down here. There's always a huge platter full at most church dinners. It's delicious, but I don't fix it very often. Thank you for your comment and for watching."0
@@ElainesCountryHome I enjoy that you share details like that - what's popular at church suppers, where your recipe comes from, how your mom or grandma taught you, etc. It helps everyone feel connected, I think.
I think you'll enjoy this, it goes great with soup beans, homemade soup, and barbecue. Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching. Happy New Year!
Haha, I never did learn to eat raw onions! He loves them, so I fix them for him whenever I have soup beans, hot dogs or hamburgers. Thank you for your comment and thanks so much for watching! :)
This is a wonderful way to make cornbread. Make it fried and on the stove top. We love my cornbread cooked in the oven. However, in our part of the country, it's too hot to use our oven in the summertime. This is a great idea. Thank you for this wonderful recipe.
It's quick and easy when you don't want to make it in the oven. You're right, it doesn't heat up the kitchen like the oven does. I think that's why Granny and my Mom made it this way so often. We didn't have AC when I was growing up, so it would get pretty hot in the summer. Thanks so much for watching!
I would love your recipe for spinach casserole. I have fried cornbread for years . I learned how to make it from my mom it is an old fashioned recipe and so good with lots of dishes but soup or beans was our favorite. Thank you for sharing your recipe.

I make these a lot! They really do taste the best made with butter milk! My neighbor said he loves our fried cornbread! These really go great with homemade vegetable beef soup!
You're absolutely right, they're wonderful with homemade vegetable beef soup. They're also great with collard greens and pulled pork barbecue, too. Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching! :)
Sawmill gravy is aka white gravy or milk gravy. It's pretty simple to make. I use equal parts bacon grease and flour to make a roux, brown it and add appx. 2 cups of milk or half & half. Sometimes, I use evaporated milk, or a combination. Cook until thick, stirring constantly and do not boil. :)
Thank you. This cornbread is very good with soup beans or most homemade soups. My hubs could just about eat the whole platter full, lol. Thanks for stopping by, please visit again!
Thank you so much for this recipe! As a twenty-something I went to visit my grandmother in Hazard KY and watched her carefully as she made us some cornbread in exactly the way you show here. She would fry bacon in the pan before making the bread so it was doubly delicious. I am so glad that you told me the secret that I neglected to write down - that the both the flower and the corn meal must be self-rising. Also that the better must be the same thickness for pan cakes when you go to fry the bread. I have long wished that I had done a better job of writing down her recipe and now I have a chance, 40 years later, to try again.

I had it on medium to medium high. It depends on your stove. I just keep an eye on them, I don't want them to brown too fast and be raw batter in the middle. If they're browning too fast, then I adjust my heat accordingly. Thank you for watching.

Hey there Gerald. No, this is quite a bit thinner than I would use in the oven. The mix in this video is the one that I would use in the oven: ua-cam.com/video/7cX25Bf22NM/v-deo.html My oven cornbread has a stiffer batter and contains more eggs to help make it firmer and give it more body. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching and have a wonderful Thanksgiving. :)
