  • This video has wins and "oops"....Learning from glass fusing mistakes is a life long process!
This experiment for me was to recreate a stained glass pattern in fused glass like a mosaic. I got a little side tracked and lazy with the sharpie marks. It is best to clean those off, especially the silver or gold sharpie!
The project itself was a success, so that is a plus, but now I have an idea on how to cover the sharpie numbers that I can not get off! Stay tuned! That experiment is next!

Love your idea. As soon as you said early on in the video that you hoped the silver sharpie would burn off I cringed. Unfortunately you learned a lesson I’m sure you won’t forget. We’ve all been there on something. I’ve never had silver, gold or copper sharpie burn off. We all learn from our mistakes then move on. Could you use black enamel or black fine frit to fix? I appreciate your efforts to teach some techniques some don’t know about.

Thank you. I figure it's best to show the mistakes to save someone else 😆 I am going to try the enamel... that was my thought to for a "save"

The white doesn’t burn off either. I often use dry erase marker instead of sharpie (I have had even black sharpie leave a ghost outline after firing some opals.). I’ve never had the dry erase not burn off. The idea of the blue lines and Dichro turned out neat though!
I’ve been fusing for about 12 years. Just last year, I forgot to remove the numbers BE puts along the edge. I think I eventually got it sandblasted off. But even us “old hats” make newbie mistakes sometimes! I’ll never forget to remove those numbers again. LOL

Love this idea. Gold and siver never burn off (is my experience). Embrace the numbers and pretend it's meant this way 👍

The rule is that it will burn off if you want it to stay and stay if you need it to burn off lol

Try a Dremel with a diamond bit. Put the whole thing in a tray of water and grind away the silver. Then you'll have to put it back in the kiln, but you can add to the piece that way. You can add bits of black frit to the piece to help disguise your work, but depending on how deep you need to go, you may not have to.
