I've listened to this track for over 40 years. I still get a tingle down the spine when hearing those soaring riffs and Anderson's angelic voice. It's very spiritual in mood. I want this track and my headphones when I'm on my deathbed.
When I began learning the bass, I inhaled everything Yes, lol. This was back in 1982…yep, I’m an old lady of 61! Bands with strong bass riffs were addictive for me.
YES is next level. What's incredible is not only does their music hold up 50 years later it still reveals spine tingling reactions after hundreds of listens.
Been a Yes fan, it feels like forever! Seen them twice, and I have got to say it was truly spiritual. I always say it's like opening a present to find another present and on and on 'til it's over.
I’ve seen them 5 times though only once with that powerful classic lineup of Anderson, Wakeman, Squire, White, and Howe. Incredible especially that first time at MSG back in June of ‘79!
Hey i turned 22 a week ago and Yes is my absolute favorite band. You have so much music to explore from this group. You'll love the behemoth title track of this album. Definition of a masterpiece. Happy holidays Ace.
I'm almost 70....and this really makes me smile. Thanks for this comment! I first heard Roundabout when I was 17, and all I wanted was MORE. Even when you go back into their earlier stuff (like I've Seen All Good People/Your Move) they blow your mind. And then return it in way better shape.
Masterclass musicians. “God level” track!!! Loved it since the album cane out. Other worldly!!! Ace keeps reacting to the greats. Thank you my friend!!!✌️✌️✌️
Now that you've started down the rabbit hole, you should go for the most epic 18-minute masterpiece. Strap in my friend. This is Close To The Edge. It's considered to be they're greatest track they've recorded. When you're done, compare this song with another masterpiece, Awaken. Love your reactions. Enjoy the journey.
Been hearing this track for over 50 years… still makes me shiver… I am not a religious person but this track and Jon’s soaring vocals are a completely spiritual experience… masterpiece… and seeing your reaction makes me relive my first hearing all those years ago… great reaction…
I had a director, once, who described certain pieces of music as "godlike". I feel that, about this entire piece....but, my friend, you might be ready for CTTE, now. If you think THIS was epic.....pack your bags.
One of the greatest songs of all time. This song is all about the purest of loves. It gives off a universal feeling !This is like getting a big hug from the world.
Thanks for the awesome reaction! Jon would often joke about playing this song for so many years and "this time we're gonna get it right". Never heard a bad version, but the pinnacle was at Madison Square Garden on their 35th anniversary tour, where they got a 10 minute standing ovation from the packed house after the last solo section. Not a dry eye in the house!
I was also there @ MSG for “that” And You And I. An unforgettable experience. Hate to rain on the parade, but it was about a 2 and 1/2 minute standing ‘o’. However, the song had yet to conclude! What I recall from that night is that the crowd was largely inattentive and rather inebriated most of the night. But, And You And I grabbed everyone present by the short curlies and said pay attention! You are in the presence of Masters. The song went straight up to the domed ceiling of The Garden, right out of the roof, up into the sky, and, presumably right to the Heavens. And as great as this song was on this night, I have seen them surpass it. A spiritual experience from the greatest live band I, personally have ever witnessed.
@@frankhoulihanfh4972 "The song went straight up to the domed ceiling of The Garden, right out of the roof, up into the sky, and, presumably right to the Heavens." - my experience exactly! Forgive my time dilation. Best to you~
@@bélalugrisi Time dilation! Love it. Well, everyone at the time said it was 10 minutes. But, do you remember the band running around the stage like young men, again, as the crowd roared?! And they were milking it, too, and deservedly so! Jon would approach the microphone to try and finish off that lovely, sweet little totally essential coda, and the crowd just roared that much louder. This happened at least four times, so your time dilation is forgiven. Seeing the band getting love like that in Manhattan of the 21st Century filled my, and our, all our eyes with sweet tears of joy and love. You just usually don’t get these things out of your every day garden variety concert. Usually not! Kind regards, Bela. And may the Holidays be blessed for you and yours.
I consider the title track on this album, Close to the Edge, as THE song that changed my musical life. For the last 50 years it has set the bar for musical genius and intrigue, and no song in those last 50 years has cleared that bar. I'm still waiting at the age of 69 and I have zero expectations that bar will be met. Thanks a million for reacting to YES !!
Their "long form" pieces.... Jon Anderson likes to go big. Always did, and still does. His most recent album (1,000 Hands) is spectacular, and some of it does remind me of this, but that's not surprise.
"In the end we'll agree, we'll accept, we'll immortalize." And did they ever stand the test of time, being real quality. They are whom I've seen and heard most. Jon, the singer and visionary leader, is an avatar; a being with a spiritual gravitational center; a bodhisattva, here to help us to the other side.
If you really want to sustain your amazement at YES' mind-boggling talent, I suggest you go ahead & listen to the next song that comes after *And You And I* on the Close To the Edge album: *Siberian Khatru.* When you first listen to this whole album in its entirety, after hearing the title track *Close To The Edge* & then *And You And I* you are treated to yet another YES masterpieces, *Siberian Khatru.* This whole album is musically priceless...
I lOOOOOOVE Siberian Khatru; that song kicks ass all the way to the moon and back!! But it has some toxic earworms in it....that little Steve Howe wiggle made it impossible for me to concentrate in school. Baaad!!!
@@JJ8KK I'm almost 70, but fell in love with them in my teens. Also: there are kids, these days, who are hearing them and loving them. Let's not be ageist. :)

"Close your eyes and listen." Long time yes fan enjoying your reactions and not only to yes. You have been listening to some amazing music. The 70's was an explosion of creative music. Keep it up. Love the enthusiasm.
Ladies and gentlemen Chris Squire and Yes the greatest show on earth. Yes the divine does show up when experiencing YES. 🙏🍁 On to Siberian Khatru which is the next song the the album.
Ace I was one of the ones suggesting Yes months ago before you did Owner of a lonely heart live because it was obvious you would appreciate it. I now ask Santa for Ace doing side 1 of RUSH 2112 (what a story!) do it from the official Rush site like others have posted because the animation is great too. Side 2 is great as well but is your standard type of album in that they are singles, not a whole story.
This was incredible live. That's all I can say. They are writing in a classical musical style somewhat in that the piece is divided into separate movements.
sorry had to pause again OMG FINALLY someone else gets IT that freakin "Not here anymore" freakin feeling WoW YAY soo GREAT to hear someone say it!!!
