You continue to amaze with the fine selections of great music from many of our childhoods. My 60+ years on this planet have been enriched greatly by Yes’s music. Great reaction as usual.
The 6th member of Yes during this era was producer/recording engineer\A & R Eddie Offord. His contributions to the recordings cannot be lightly dismissed. Prog Rock may never have reached it's heights without him.
There’s a live version of this on UA-cam complete with an orchestra backup that takes this amazing song to an even higher level. I highly recommend a listen!
I love continuing this Yes journey with you! My favorite band. If you would like to hear a flute in a progressive song try Jethro Tull. Cross Eyed Mary or Hymn 43.
Interesting note: At the very start of the song, the guitar harmonics was Steve Howe tuning his guitar before starting what had been written. The production team thought it was part of the intro and left it in the mix. When the band listened back they liked it and kept it in 🤷😅
@satanicpanicfunandgames3141 Steve plays most things different every time when he can. Just part of who he is as a player. They all had to "learn" these songs from back then after they were constructed in studio. Easy to write yourself into a corner. But imagine touring for decades and playing the same parts the same way over and over, night after night. Some people prefer that (e.g. Rush) but for others, it takes the joy out of performing.
Man, you sure nailed it! "It almost feels like a set up for something else..." _And You And I_ isn't the kind of power-driven YES song that I dearly love, but it is quite beautiful and it does _set up the finale that is_ *Siberian Khatru,* which is the icing on the cake of this remarkable album. I'm really loving your reactions to YES' greatness. I remember the first time I heard Starship Trooper on the radio as a junior in high school. I wasn't sure just what I had heard, but I knew there were parts of it that were _very_ satisfying. By the time I had heard it a few more times, I was wondering if it wasn't the most amazing thing I had ever heard. I went out to buy The Yes Album & was blown away. So I went to see them in concert where I was exposed to Close To The Edge for the first time. Like your first exposure to CTTE as a live performance, I wasn't able to fully appreciate its ultimate greatness, but when I bought the album on the way home from the concert, I was rewarded with such sonic wonderfulness that I became a hard-core YES fan for decades....
I've been listening to Yes since the 70's and recently have been reexamining them through watching reactions. One tune that has risen in my rankings is,"Awaken". It now rivals my previous favorite, "The Gates of Delirium". Celestial, ethereal, and majestic. I feel like I climbed Jacob's ladder and entered the very throne room of God!
I have been a Yes fan since the 70's too. The thing that gets me is how fresh and amazing these songs still sound now. They could have been recorded yesterday and would completely blitz almost all new music of today.
There are two pairs Yes songs that are best experienced smoothly merging together, as one would hear on the album start to finish. These are "We Have Heaven" and "South Side of the Sky" played back to back. And "Long Distance Runaround" and "The Fish (Shindleria Praematurus)" together, both sets found on the Fragile album. After those do the last song on the album "Heart of the Sunrise" all the way thru even beyond when you think it's ended. ✌😎
reminds me of 7th grade, Gonish Incense Oils & Spice, Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon, Emerson Lake & Palmer - From the Beginning.. all that music came out around the same time. Great memories.
For me with ( And You and I ) it is all about the lyrics , music second as is most Yes songs with me , however the music and arrangements are spectacular.
I first this song after travelling through India while settling in a 747 to my way back home. What a game changer and a look into the future! Thanks for sharing.
next SIBERIAN KHATRU is A MUST! RIVIDING !!!!! Re-evaulate! AYAI is a LUSH world onto it's own. From the opening with the deliciously melodic harmonics on the strings to the pastorally sweetness of the acoustic folk guitar into the greatest CRESCENDO in Rock Music this song is BLISS! When released in 1972 this album became the pinnacle of Prog creativity! Those who were there & aware of the era have the benefit of appreciating the timeline of all the music and the artists of that time. So my perspective is always linked to what came before and came after. Context can be very important especially when people start comparing songs or a band's discography!
"Siberian Khatru" (the last one) is a banger. Waiting with much anticipation. I always hear some Hendrix reference in there, in fact it starts with that.
You asked if And You and I was a setup for what was to come next. I’d say that you were correct, sir. This is one of the most beautiful pallet cleansers put to vinyl. Jon’s vocals are unmatched, Squire’s bass and Howe’s beautiful guitar work are the best. Enjoy traveling the Yes road along with you. ✌️🔥❤️
Yes gave us so many textures & atmosphere. I disagree that it's a set up but texturally it just makes the album flow like the ocean. "I get up & I get down. AYAI gets you up & they surely "get down" on Khatru! It is it's own unique deep plunge into melodic bliss.
Jon Anderson has said something along the lines of: "If ever one of our songs encapsulated the spirit of Yes, it was 'And You and I'." I happen to agree. He also mentioned "Awaken," which I see you've already gotten to. Will be checking that out next.
as much as i love "Close to the Each" this song for me just tugs at the heart strings...that lush sound...uhhhhh...again....love your reactions to the transitions!
The start of this beautiful song is just Steve 'tunning' his guitar! I love your videos brother.. YES, is my favorite band since the age of 12. I am 57 now>
Another 60+ subscriber. I think the ritual of selecting the album, not touching the grooves, using my Disc Washer pad to clean it (anyone remember), then carefully letting the needle lower into the lead-in groove. Being able to enjoy the album cover, and check the lyrics provided added to the experience! If you were able to upgrade your system over time, you could reduce distortion to non-audible limits. There's a warmth to analog. Maybe just old school bias? Working, (enjoying), my way through your reactions! As always keep up the great work!! 👍👍👍
And You and I is a YES love song, that is why, I feel, it is a bit slower. To have watched this song performed live many times, it is definitely a piece that is amazing live. You want grandeur? Awaken is your next stop on the YES trip. Buckle up, you're going flying!
with humor Bill Bruford said facetiously when asked to describe their music "We play fast songs and then play slow songs", YES did both to perfection. No apologies or need for explanation.
So far for me this is the easiest listening song I've heard from this group. sections of it sounded familiar and it was more "mild" (geez, I feel old saying this... lol) than some of the others. 👵😇
This entire album is perfect.
This is an end to end album. Smoke a bowl, drop the needle, flip, rinse, repeat. LOL
Whole album, for definite. Especially side 1. 😁
Yup. For sure. So is Going For The One and Relayer.
@@TheAmazingSpaghetti TALES
@@wendellwiggins3776 Well I love the whole Tales album.
Simply amazing from the Great YES 💫❤️☝️
This truely is one of the most beautiful pieces ever written. AWAKEN next
The Remembering!

Am 63 .. from Detroit..same, Brah!
Masterpiece
One of the most beautiful songs ever. Keep listening to it.

7:30 to 8:07 might be my favorite :30 seconds of music, ever. :)
Fabulous!! Thank you.
Definitely a favorite of mine. Love the acoustic guitar breaks and Squire's bass sounds awesome in it.
There’s a live version of this on UA-cam complete with an orchestra backup that takes this amazing song to an even higher level. I highly recommend a listen!
Always good to hear this again ty
1. Siberian Khatru .
2. Sound Chaser .
In whatever order you fancy .
I saw YES in concert in circa 76-77 . The circular stage rotated and I was mesmerized and loved every decibel of it .
I love continuing this Yes journey with you! My favorite band. If you would like to hear a flute in a progressive song try Jethro Tull. Cross Eyed Mary or Hymn 43.

Amazing artists of emotion through sound. The talent is in another realm.
WooHoo! And you are loud and clear. Set up indeed. Siberian Khatru is let's just say, more energetic.
It aint and Khatru needs no setup. AYAI is it's own magical melodic independent journey into bliss

not a set up. a track onto itself that exceled to their highest melodic limits at the time

A beautiful love song. On to Siberian Khatru which you might want to put on a seat belt for. Nice honest reaction.

Penultimate album .
Defines an era .
Yay, dude!
one of the only YES songs that they always play in concert. Jon wrote it as a love song to his wife.
Yes to yes! Fond memories of listening to underground FM radio! Sweet!👍💕🎶
Great reaction.

The whistling like sound is Steve Howe on a pedal steel guitar
I am enjoying having you back
Iconic track. Ty for keeping this greatness at the forefront.
Great reaction!
I was in my mid teens when this came out. Has continued to have a significant influence in my general paradigm I think
"Siberian Khatru" (the last one) is a banger. Waiting with much anticipation. I always hear some Hendrix reference in there, in fact it starts with that.
thank you said this

In the best way possible.

PROG is a different trip ...............................Peace and Love
I grew up listening to this song. It's a beautiful work of art. Spiritual. After awhile it becomes part of you. And You and I and Me
This song like fine wine has some incredible live interpretations you should hear. Probably the absolute peak is 2001 amsterdam DVD symphonic yes.
One of the peaks in prog.
Nice objectivity to your review process. 😊
Nobody could match Yes! They were as good as it gets.....epic really
👍
When Bill Bruford left YES for King Crimson, he said they would never top CTTE and felt it was time to move on. He was right
The live version of this from the Symphonic Live is a must watch!
It is a great great album. Top of ptogressive
I really like your comment, besides that the song is marvelous!!
Hey Man - Nice Job, Great Job Man - And you and I climb, clearer towards the movement....
This song may require several listens to really appreciate it, most of their music is like that. It helps to relax with your favorite wacky tabacky.
The only other YOU & I that comes close emotionally is one from the same year 1972 was Stevie Wonders.
Relayer and Going For the One are both fantastic albums.
Siberian Khatru coming up!
The start of this beautiful song is just Steve 'tunning' his guitar! I love your videos brother.. YES, is my favorite band since the age of 12. I am 57 now>
Magnification.. Hold On.. Don't kill The Wale.. Drama- Can It Really Happen.. Talk.. are all great in my opinion.. I think you'd like...

I don't always dig reaction vids. The insights are often shallow. Your perspective is fresh. It's almost like listening live, along with you. Cheers!
Please explore a prog group called Renaissance. I believe you will enjoy and it would probably be best to start with Mother Russia
oh yes! .. setting up for Siberian Khatru
There will never be musicianship ever again like Yes, Pink Floyd, Zepplin or Ac/Dc among et. Al
And You and I is a YES love song, that is why, I feel, it is a bit slower. To have watched this song performed live many times, it is definitely a piece that is amazing live. You want grandeur? Awaken is your next stop on the YES trip. Buckle up, you're going flying!

wait for LP Drama by Yes
Kansas would be nice
You might as well finish off the album and react to "Siberian Khatru" next. You'll like it. I promise. Enjoy.

Not old, “seasoned”. Charlotte.

The live version is better. They figured out how to play it.
Yep. It is a setup. Siberian Khatru…………
Jon Andersen almost had a cadence...
How About "You and I"? RICK JAMES
I could use an instrumental mind/teacher/musician over in East Lancashire 👌👊Give me a shout Bro, reachin out.

I've never heard this remaster before now. Didn't care for it at all. Go listen to the original. Much Better imho.
