- The Abandoned Boudoir Diorama - Chapter One
Scratch Built Window Wall
Time to roll up our sleeves and build the first wall for this Medieval Bedchamber! Using insulation, joint compound, a bunch of superglue and some strong instant coffee, we're going to simulate an ancient castle wall, made of sandstone.
Along the way, we'll experiment with two different methods for cutting shapes out of foam insulation panels - and create a LOT of dust!
Grab your gear, head to the workshop, and let's install these gorgeous Miniature Stained Glass Windows!

Finally, construction of the Medieval Room Box for the Abandoned Boudoir Diorama BEGINS! 💗
I promised myself that I would do a LOT more pre-planning for this project. Construction of The Secret Garden was very much a 'seat of the pants', figure it out as you go type thingie...😅
So, this time, I am TRYING to be a bit more left brained, and attempting to anticipate all kinds of potential 'engineering' problems. 🛠 Ha. Doomed. 😉
And that's okay...because one of the things that I've learned over the years is this (and it's a big deal!):
Failure and mistakes are inevitable. What matters is our resiliency - our willingness to do whatever it takes to redeem a project that has gone 'awry'.
It's the solving of the problems that leads to greater and greater levels of confidence - (not 'talent') - persistence and an open mind are FAR more important, in my book. 🥽
Why am I going on about this stuff?
Well, I guess it has to do with what it is that I truly want to share:
Building our dreams is a process of doing the thing even THOUGH we don't know all the answers.
...even THOUGH things will go hilariously and uncontrollably wrong.
...even THOUGH others do it with SO much more grace and skill.
...even though we aren't 'ready'.
Here's the thing: the world is FULL of miniature environments, built by incredibly skilled and experienced artisans. My heart swells with appreciation when I witness work that inspires me...and it's easy to succumb to the inevitable thought that follows on the heels of that wave of love: I'll never have that level of mastery - there's no point in trying.
I choose to align myself with the love and appreciation, NOT the self-doubt and discouragement.
It's a choice.
Is it the right choice?
I have no idea - and what's more, I don't CARE.
Because I do know this: if you genuinely LOVE something with as much passion as I love Diorama building, then failing to follow that passion is the REAL failure.
So, yeah. I am forging ahead...even though I don't KNOW all the answers. Even though failure and mistakes will be my constant companion. Because my heart MUST, and there is a flame within that beckons me on, in spite of all the excellent reasons to not bother.
Sharing the exquisite sensation of wresting some kind of beauty from the wreckage of my awkward and fumbling attempts IS the point.
Because it matters: learning to trust ourselves just enough, to be kind enough to ourselves to allow the failures, the fumbling and the awkwardness IS the TREASURE that I have found, and that I want for YOU to find, too. 💗
Today's video is an example of this process at work. I hope you find some value in it, my friend.
❤
Came for the diorama. Subing for the entrancing voice!
Thank you so much. I am new to this arena, though have been in awe of miniatures all my life, I finally may have the time to pursue the hobby. Your videos provide such straightforward and thorough instruction, and your designs are so fantastic, it is truly inspiring! You are a master of your craft!
Good morning Heather Im loving your vision so far I know we will be in awe each week.
Thank you for believing in me, girl. We'll fumble our way through, together @Cindy Finn...it's so much more fun, because YOU are here, with me! xoxo
@@Thicketworks You're welcome you have a solid commitment to the architecture of centuries old and I find it stunning each week xoxo
Ohhhhhh!!! So exciting!!!
Hi Hazel! Thanks for coming along for the ride, girl! xoxo
I feel great admiration for you!!!!!!!
And I have HUGE appreciation for YOU, dear Monica! xoxo
Love love love!
Yay! We're on our way, @buckythewonderhorse ...who knows what will happen? Not me. But I am all in! xoxo
This is amazing work yes, but that voice is truly amazing and soothing.
That's very kind of you. Like everybody else, I don't like the sound of my own voice! xoxo
Oh. Very. My! You know I adore your work, my dear Heather, but I often wonder what I would do with dioramas if I made them. And then you go and mention photography backdrops! What a wonderful idea! I can just see a battery candle casting a gorgeous glow through those amazing windows, with one of my Halloween or other Curious Creations in front 😍 I can’t wait to see the next chapter/s! 😘
The whole mini photography thing has me so intrigued, @Sue J - just think, you can build these custom scenes, then add or remove props to your hearts content, girl! I love your idea of showcasing Halloween pieces with soft glowing light shining through the windows: magical! xoxo
Heather Tracy Creating is a little on hold right now, as we go through a house move, but I’m definitely going to give it a go and have a crack at making a diorama x
MARAVILLOSAS!👏👏👏👏👏
ARTISTA!
Oh, thank you, darling Cristina! This is so much fun! xoxo
Wow!

You are amazing. Thank you for sharing.
You are far too kind, Zenda - and thank you for being that way. 🥰

Lookin good!! Cant wait to see where this will go!
Oh, my goodness - well, I'll tell ya, my friend...I have been down the Rabbit Hole and back over the last week and a half! I can't wait to show you where this has gone, @Year-round Krampus! 😅
wonderful
OK, I have a Proxxon Foam cutting table, but it hasn't even been opened yet. Too many conceived projects, too little time. I'm really liking this build, so far, Heather. I wish it wasn't a whole week until the next installment!
Dude...I'll come over and unbox that sucker for ya! You've got projects to make, and a million ideas to test out! I wish I could pump out the content faster, but I'm at capacity over here, my friend. xoxo
Another inspirational work of art
Oh, darlin'...thank you for being so encouraging - despite the lack of precision to these techniques, I like the outcome so far. Fingers crossed that subsequent additions are successful! xoxo
You always take us on such fantastic crafting adventures! 💞💞
And YOU, my lovely, never fail to lift me UP! Thank you, @Angela White - you are an Angel in my world. xoxo
Absolutely fantastic my dear!
We are just getting started, darlin'...oh, I am SO excited about this one! xoxo
@@Thicketworks i am looking forward to watching!
My heart is going pitter patter just a little bit faster. I know what my winter is looking like.
Beautiful pieces once again. I am beyond in love with that wall.
Oh, that makes me happy, my friend. I hope that you find the process as satisfying as I did! xoxo
Good morning! It's Thursday and that means coffee and UA-cam to watch my favorite artist = ) I'm convinced that if you had lived in Egypt 4000+ years ago you could have whipped up some fabulous pyramids, decorated the interiors and invented a better way to make papyrus paper with nary a chipped fingernail! You are amazing = )
Ha ha! You are deliciously kind, humorous, and gentle, my friend. Thank you for the giggle...YOU are amazing, @Donna Walker! xoxo
Absolutely amazing! Can't wait to see the next video!
So many ideas, Cyndi! I can't wait to explore ALL of them with you! xoxo
I’m so excited every time I see one of your videos! This is going to be gorgeous!
Whoa! Thank you so much, Neta - that is so encouraging to hear. Fingers crossed that the next stages turn out well, girl! xoxo
Fantástico 👏 👏 👏 👏 parabéns
Tão feliz em saber que você gostou. Obrigado!

Glad to hear you found it useful, @LoKe- Art! Thank YOU! xoxo
That was just lovely!! I am so ready for this whole project❤❤❤
Yay! Thanks, Ara.That means so much to me. Let's hope I don't mess it up! 😅😘
Oooooooo I love where this is heading ❤️
Yay! Hoping we'll learn a whole lot of new techniques along the way, Donna! xoxo
GORGEOUS WINDOWS!
cant wait to see the final piece!
Yay! Stick with me, girl - we're going to attempt some seriously crazy pieces for this dio, @Sandra Miranda...at the very least, you'll learn what NOT to do! 😅😘xoxo
Be still my beating heart... my imagination is a swirl with visions of a beautiful lady being held captive within the confines of this beautiful room. pampered and waited on, showered with everything she could possibly want except for the one thing she wants the most..... her freedom...... how long before she escapes her gilded prison leaving broken hearts in her wake, never to return again..... WOW!! Heather, you've done it again.... stoked the flames of imagination. I love it!!
Oh, my goodness, Shirley...what a captivating (pun intended!) vision, girl! Like some Romance from Sir Walter Scott...'The Maiden in the Tower', or some such delicious nonsense! I'm delighted that you are along for the adventure - we'll see what emerges, my friend! xoxo
Your amazing loving it
Hey, Margaret! Thank you for being here, girl. xoxo
Heather, I am so excited to see you progress through this project. Lookingforward so much to your next installment. THANK YOU SO MUCH, love jo x
Dear Jo...you are always so kind, my friend: thank you. Thank YOU! xoxo
I just love your videos Heather! You’re like an ethereal crafty fairy! xxx 💜
Ha ha! Now, that's a lovely an unexpected thing to read about oneself - 'ethereal' has to be one of my FAVORITE words, girl...but it NEVER comes to mind when I think of the clumsy and all-too-human experience of fumbling through these little experiments. Bless you for your kind and generous heart, @Natalie Kate. xoxo
Again beautiful techniques and tips. Everything fits exactly and looks fantastic. I love your videos! ❤👍 Hugs
Hello, dear Tinchen! I love your comments, darling! Thank you for the good vibes! xoxo
You're art is truly magical - thank you so much for sharing your talents 💜💜💜
Thank YOU, @Beckie Brand - it's so much fun to share the experience with you! xoxo
Wow it’s going to be amazing. You give me so many ideas and shows how to achieve what’s in my brain. I can’t wait to see the finished resultxx
Fantastic, girl! That's the whole point - helping each other to get those visions out of our brains and into the world! Thank you for this, @Blonde Polly. xoxo
Wow, back to the hardware store for me! I thoroughly enjoyed making the windows. Thankyou so much for sharing your amazing talent.
Yay! The Hardware Store is the birthplace of mysteriously romantic dreams (at least in MY world, @MTLizzy!😅😘) Thank you for letting me know you enjoyed the windows - woo hoo! xoxo
SUCCESS!!
We'll see how it goes, my friend: I've got a LOT of ideas, but not sure I can pull 'em off! xoxo
@@Thicketworks Oh you got the skills!!!
Gorgeous Heather. Looking forward to seeing the boudoir evolve! 🤗 🌹Rosie of Oz 🇦🇺
Hi Rosie! Hope things are going well for you, my friend. I'm so glad you like it so far, girl. Thank you! xoxo
You do such beautiful work!! such an inspiration!
Well, thanks, @GenNairick1 - Yay! xoxo
So incredibly realistic and stunning. You just amaze me with your talent.
Oh, please, girl. I'm just trying to learn this stuff as I go - but Thank You for being so wonderfully kind, Anastasia. Hugs. xoxo
This is coming along so beautifully!!! You videos are always such a joy to watch!!! And since I've been in bed for months now there's not one I look forward to more!!!!
Dear Sarah...being in bed for months on end has to be a very trying experience. I pray that you are able to get back on your feet much sooner than anticipated, my friend. Thank you for allowing me to be 'with' you during this time - I am honored. 💖🌹💖
Amazing! I love how your projects evolve and become so real! I can't wait to see the finished abandoned boudoir 😍😍
Hi Jan! I'm trying to plan a bit more in advance, but who knows where we'll end up with this one? 😅😘
@@Thicketworks the journey is always an adventure! ❤
Mucho amor...💖🌹💖
I really love Gothic windows. I think the size might be ok as Windows tended to be smaller due to not having central heating Lol! I will try a couple to see how they look in 1:6.
Looks like I'll be working on this today since, for once, I have all of the tools I need. haha Can't wait to see how it turns out!
Yay! I love that feeling, Penny! I hope you have as much fun as I did, in spite of the user errors! 😅😘
Hello Heather. Wonderful tutorials - thank you so much. I too have one of those mini saws with the two different blades but I found mine very flimsy. I found the blades wobbled if too much pressure was applied. Have not really used my one much, but as you say, it may come in handy for something just not sure what yet🤔🙂
Hello, @Khazbar! Thanks for your kindness, my friend. I'm sure we'll find ways to use the little Olfa Saws - they are so cute, they just HAVE to be good for something! 😅😘
Gah, I love it! In the photos it looks so real, 😮 reminds me of a church from the south of France. there are so many cool Japanese miniature tools id like to try! Okay, what's next!!? 🌞🌻🖤
So many ideas to pursue, my friend: half the battle is just committing to one at a time, and going for it (at least for me!). I look forward to learning SO much through this process. xoxo
Impossibly realistic!! Amazing, awe inspiring...I already want to know who lived there, what was their life like, where did they go, why is no one there now??? My imagination is lit, the fuse is long and slow....may the journey never end
The imagination is our playground, @therettavad - and I am so grateful to get to play there every day! Thank you for joining me...xoxo
I actually had one of those type of sauce the miniature one and I was cutting some foam in the tip of it completely snapped off and flew across my room and I hadn’t even really got to use it yet it made me so upset
There was one thing wrong with this video. It was over too soon! Can hardly wait to see what comes next. 🇺🇸 Happy 4th of July. 💙🦄
Ha! What a sweet and lovely thing to say, Susan. Happy 4th, my friend. xoxo
