There is a huge difference between a cold boot and a warm boot with GPS acquisition. The GPS has an internal battery / capacitor to hold GPS data for a short period. When changing batteries it will lock GPS in seconds. Also you need to do a compass calibration as it is also blank with the GPS charge. Consult the manual on how to do a compass calibration. The toilet bowl effect will be very bad over the pool. The optical flow downward sensor does not like flying over water. Do not attempt a RTH till you have calibrated the Compass.

Wow! I have to try mine again, only used it once since the upgrade of GPS. My old one got solid green in 4 minutes, I hope my first flight wasn't a false 30 seconds. I'd be pissed to spend $30.00 and have it be worse than the original. 1:23
Curious to know if you hooked it up to the app/software and checked the GPS connection there? How many satellites are you getting? Not sure if that matters?

How do I know if I need to upgrade my gps?
if your happy with satalites and all flys well i would not upgrade, the new chip can detect more sats
