Before Jordan vs Bird, there was One-on-One which featured Dr J vs Bird back in 1983. It featured slam dunks, a referee, three point shots, shattering the backboard, and even instant replays. It was WAY ahead of its time.
+Retro Bear The official name of the game was called One-on-One. It was by EA (then known by their formal name, Electronic Arts). I had it for the Commodore 64.
Definitely can't forget that one, seeing that it was the first NBA team licensed game. And because it was a huge graphics upgrade from Double Dribble ( even though DD was the better game to play )
Also there was this streetball game on DOS of which I can't remember the name. Oh, also this--In Flight: www.abandonwaredos.com/abandonware-game.php?abandonware=Micheal+Jordan+in+Flight&gid=1675
I expected these games would be covered: - Lakers vs Celtics and the NBA Playoffs (EA, PC/Genesis 1989) - Run and gun (Konami, arcade 1993) - Street Whoop (Data East, Neo Geo 1994) - Super Slams (Banpresto, arcade 1995)
nice, I remember playing double dribble thinking wow the graphics are awesome. do evolution of nhl and NFL please! thanks for bringing back some memories.
The lack of NBA 2K for the Dreamcast is disturbing, especially considering this is supposed to be an evolution of Basketball video games. Don't think you realize how big of a leap those games were.
+LittleBugGaming Naw NBA live 16 looks like the greatest and most realistic basketball game ever, but it isn't 2k 16 does look amazing but just not as good, but 2k 16 play amazing it's the most fun basketball game I've played.
Basketball 0:14 1979 Basketball 800 0:29 1979 Double Dribble 0:46 1987 Jordan V Bird 1:03 1988 Tecmo NBA 1:23 1992 NBA Jam 1:43 1993 Live 95 2:05 1994 Live 01 2:26 2000 Street 2 2:43 2003 Live 05 2:56 2004 NBA 2k9 3:14 2008 NBA 2k10 Teaser 3:36 2009
Arcade versions of games usually look better than their console counterparts. I think the Dreamcast was the first system to really match, and occasionally surpass, the Arcade in graphical quality.
I remembering it all as kids wow it’s amazing to see what we want through just to play a video game 🎮 wow . The new generation will never know the struggle thanks for showing it 🙌🏾🎥👏🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥
bad ass video dude..super props...you have captured all the aspects of b-ball gaming. i remember playing nba jam in the arcade for the first time..it was the most incredible thing i had ever seen at 13.
NBA Live '95 was the basketball game for the ages. I remember staying up till like 3 in the morning playing that game. watching this also makes me feel so old. I was a freshmen in high school when Live '95 came out. GREAT TIMES!!!!
You forgot Hoops(1989 NES), that was an awesome streetball game that really became one of the most fun and played basketball games of its time. Bomber, Jammer, Face, Barbie, Whiz, the characters were great. It had two player versus, one-on-one, two player vs computer, you-vs-computer, you as a team vs computer's team, and around the world. Great game, one of my favorites ever.
The other significant game left out, was NCAA Basketball made in 1992, which was only found on the SuperNintendo. The makers of this game didn't waste time designing elaborate stadiums, instead focused on gameplay and a 3D perspective that is now see in all basketball games now. It was EASILY the most realistic basketball game from a game playing standpoint, at that time. Game play was very smooth with realistic and accurate player actions. Speed of the game was almost perfect.
Last but not least, GREATEST SOUNDTRACK EVER!! Dope underground beats to always ball to. They don't make em like they used to. 2k5 is legendary and ahead of its time...
I thoroughly enjoyed that.... I would like to add EA Lakers vs Celtics video game series, Coach K series (UNLV Runnin Rebs all day, breaking back boards), Run n Gun 2 and NBA Hangtime. Great Vid!!
One of the more significant games left out in this video was Bulls vs Celtics, the 1989 game by Electronic Arts. It was their first real NBA basketball game. I may be wrong, but I think it wast first basketball game to not only be licensed by the NBA, but also used real player names and numbers, along with keeping extensive stats in season mode. That game was the template that EA used for basketball until they switched to the NBA Live style of gameplay and presentation in 1994.
double dribble; first bball game i ever played as a kid lol. you forgot celtics vs lakers, bulls vs blazers, nba showdown and pat riley basketball; another classic
NBAJam was a revolution. Not just another "make it look like tv" style sport sim. It took the cool moves, and exaggerated them. Made every move a cartoon version of the real thing, and nailed the in game commentary. Brilliant for 1993.
@Snpdo, yea man, he using this type of music, i had to tell my brain, your happy, it is just nba games getting better, plus, he uses different angles and different games, kind of beats off the whole kegacy of the basketball games
IIRC, the "X" button on the SNES was to swipe for a steal, the "A" button was for a hand-check, which in reality was more of a shove in this game. Of course you could turn the fouls off and get steals easier with "A".
As far as can tell the biggest advancement was from Atari to the NES. By the time Double Dribble came out it was already a fluid game with good controls and player movement.
This was published 2009! 9 years later, and even better graphics and gameplay! Amazing!
NBA Street Was The Best They Need To Bring That Back👌👌
They did
They did
Yes!!!
I still have a PS2! I still play NBA Street vol. 2 all the time!
Before Jordan vs Bird, there was One-on-One which featured Dr J vs Bird back in 1983. It featured slam dunks, a referee, three point shots, shattering the backboard, and even instant replays. It was WAY ahead of its time.
Yeah can't find dr. J vs Bird anywhere. I'm currently doing some gameplay vids on all of the ones that I can find
+Retro Bear The official name of the game was called One-on-One. It was by EA (then known by their formal name, Electronic Arts). I had it for the Commodore 64.
cool thanks
You have forgotten "Lakers vs. Celtics" from 1989. That was a real milestone.
+dralger Exactly.. Classic one!!
Definitely can't forget that one, seeing that it was the first NBA team licensed game. And because it was a huge graphics upgrade from Double Dribble ( even though DD was the better game to play )
Also there was this streetball game on DOS of which I can't remember the name.
Oh, also this--In Flight:
www.abandonwaredos.com/abandonware-game.php?abandonware=Micheal+Jordan+in+Flight&gid=1675
right, lakers vs celtics fathered the live series.
THANK YOU! I came here trying to find this one, as I couldn't remember its name! It was really a milestone!
Who's watching in 2020
I expected these games would be covered:
- Lakers vs Celtics and the NBA Playoffs (EA, PC/Genesis 1989)
- Run and gun (Konami, arcade 1993)
- Street Whoop (Data East, Neo Geo 1994)
- Super Slams (Banpresto, arcade 1995)
nice, I remember playing double dribble thinking wow the graphics are awesome. do evolution of nhl and NFL please! thanks for bringing back some memories.
8 years after this video was released, the graphics of video games are getting more and more realistic.
You forget nba showdown. 94 the year before live classic game for the sega genesis
Nope nba jam was good double dribble nba 2k17 ps3 i havent played nba 2k18 yet or madden or wrestling 2k18 yet eventually hi im scott
Nba2k9 was the last real advancement in basketball videogames development
The lack of NBA 2K for the Dreamcast is disturbing, especially considering this is supposed to be an evolution of Basketball video games. Don't think you realize how big of a leap those games were.
And the free throws for Sega Sports/ESPN NBA 2K was the hardest.
2K Sports NBA 2K will be only the best basketball game series.
Music like this transcends emotion. If you are unhappy, you will feel accordingly.
And where is Lakers vs Celtics for DOS????
And Michael Jordan in Flight ?
NBA Street and Street Vol 2 were the best Fun basketball games with all the crazy moves, dunks blocks, and overall experience playing through them.
Can we all just agree that nba2k is better than nbalive
+Caleb Mccusker yes 2k is a lot better
+LittleBugGaming Naw NBA live 16 looks like the greatest and most realistic basketball game ever, but it isn't 2k 16 does look amazing but just not as good, but 2k 16 play amazing it's the most fun basketball game I've played.
+Rohit “Awesome” Sarwal *doesn't
Idk NBA live stepping up this year
Caleb Mccusker the only thing that live has over 2k is the blacktop, other than that 2k is much better

Missing NBA 2k dreamcast.. crazy how nba jam looked better than PS graphics too.
Arcade versions of games usually look better than their console counterparts. I think the Dreamcast was the first system to really match, and occasionally surpass, the Arcade in graphical quality.

Insane how video games and technology changes over the years… I can only imagine what the future has in store! Great video
There will always be a place in my heart for NBA Jam, NFL Blitz, and MLB Slugfest.
NBA Live '95 was the basketball game for the ages. I remember staying up till like 3 in the morning playing that game. watching this also makes me feel so old. I was a freshmen in high school when Live '95 came out. GREAT TIMES!!!!

I had "Magic Johnson's Fast break" when I was a kid. That was a good one and worth adding.
Omg i would cry when i see this. Brings back some memories.
The other significant game left out, was NCAA Basketball made in 1992, which was only found on the SuperNintendo. The makers of this game didn't waste time designing elaborate stadiums, instead focused on gameplay and a 3D perspective that is now see in all basketball games now.

Those first videos of the OLD games they showed actually looked pretty fun. :)
Kyle Lai-Fatt invented basketball video games .
Man back in the 90's on Tecmo NBA Basketball I was jacking up 75 three's a game well before the Warriors!
I remember playing Double Dribble with my cousins until our fingers got sore, this takes me back.
Last but not least, GREATEST SOUNDTRACK EVER!! Dope underground beats to always ball to. They don't make em like they used to. 2k5 is legendary and ahead of its time...
Gotta update this video. A decade later.
NCAA basketball 09 is still an amazing game. Graphics are still good and the game is almost 10 years old
NBA Street Vol.3 and Homecourt those were pure AWESOMENESS!!
Remember the glitch in double dribble...that corner shot..perfect timing they made every shot....
Ya, I think the Bulls vs Blazers game was the first ever sports game to have the instant replay feature. That was a great game back in 91/92.
Left out 6 years worth of games 1980 - 1986
Then another 3 1997 - 1999
Then another 3 2005 - 2007
Missed out a ton of games.
I am crying this video I am memory my childhood day when I was played basket ball game
NBA street was awesome. I loved doing breakdance moves while dribbling the ball around people.
I've played all off them, well, mostly, (never had an atari 800, just the 2600). Damn! I'm too old!
The "shot" meter in NBA shootout was GREAT
In the zone 1 and 2 was a great basketball game. Was better than live around those years
I thoroughly enjoyed that.... I would like to add EA Lakers vs Celtics video game series, Coach K series (UNLV Runnin Rebs all day, breaking back boards), Run n Gun 2 and NBA Hangtime.
Great Vid!!
NBA Showdown 94 was one of my favorites.
One of the more significant games left out in this video was Bulls vs Celtics, the 1989 game by Electronic Arts. It was their first real NBA basketball game.

I never realized how dope this beat is without the vocal
NBA Jam 93, massive leap in gameplay quality! Even if they were exaggerated moves etc still pretty smooth stuff
i first fell in love with Basketball when i first played double Drible...

Great evolution video!! I Looooooved Techmo NBA basketball as a kid! I wish I could play it again just one more time :(
NBAJam was a revolution. Not just another "make it look like tv" style sport sim. It took the cool moves, and exaggerated them. Made every move a cartoon version of the real thing, and nailed the in game commentary. Brilliant for 1993.
Can't believe I actually played some of these games in the past...
Back then all the old video games use to be awesome
And now their still awesome
Kids today will never know the struggle of holding onto the ball in Double Dribble.
@Snpdo, yea man, he using this type of music, i had to tell my brain, your happy, it is just nba games getting better, plus, he uses different angles and different games, kind of beats off the whole kegacy of the basketball games
4:10 left - 2k, right - nba live
LIVE 2000 WAS INCREDIBLE.PLAYERS MOVES SO NATURAL.SKIN TEXTURE CLOSER TO REALITY THAN ANY GAME EVER.AND THE SOUNDTRACK. NBA LIVE 2000 THE BEST
IIRC, the "X" button on the SNES was to swipe for a steal, the "A" button was for a hand-check, which in reality was more of a shove in this game.
Of course you could turn the fouls off and get steals easier with "A".
this guy need to do an updated version of this it would be even sicker
NBA 2K10 was a huge start of terrific NBA 2K's graphics and animations
I like how at the end you show how electronic bball went from blocks to real graphics
As far as can tell the biggest advancement was from Atari to the NES. By the time Double Dribble came out it was already a fluid game with good controls and player movement.
if you pay attention, @ 4:02 Kobe traveled xD hahaha Good vid man!

That "Double Dribble" game for the NES is the one they're playing on Love and Basketball
0:17 And GREEN with the still ! (What a Game from Green)
I didnt either at first, but after about 20 minutes of hard concentration, i realized they changed the shoe styles over the years =D
First games I ever owned was MK, Mario Kart, and NBA Jam for the SNES. Wow, I'm getting old.
Great video man! So many memories!
Sega Genesis Lakers VS Celtics? Lakers VS Bulls? Bulls VS Blazers? Those games paved the way for what is being played today.
The graphics updates from the NES to SNES were huge.
