I am a Bama fan and alum but I started watching the MAC games several years ago because there were a couple of games a week on TV during the week instead of Saturday. I had just gotten my new big screen flat panel TV and would watch anything sports because it was so awesome. Turns out, the MAC is very competitive and entertaining to watch. The casual fan will not be disappointed if they attend a game.
Fun fact: the Wolverine Amtrak train that runs right passed Western Michigan’s Waldo Stadium also runs right past Eastern Michigan University’s campus.
I believe Toledo is called the "Glass City," but when I think of Toledo, I think of scales-especially those "banjo" scales you used to see in public places where you could check your weight & read your fortune for a few cents.

I'm going through all your college football videos and I have noticed that you are not critical, the worst think you ever say is "it's ok" and you find things to like even in the most simplest boring stadiums. especially nowadays, its so easy to be critical and you seem to find the positive in some of these stadiums. I think that's great
Just wanna say, I'm In the shot of the central michigan marching band! I'm one of the saxophone players on the bottom right! Also, the first shot of Kelley/Shorts Stadium is waaaaayyyyy old lol its much, much bigger than that now
I have been to nearly all of these stadiums in my time. Let me tell you, there is nothing in college football like a Saturday afternoon MAC game. As nearly all the conference is in short driving distance from each other, you can make an easy day trip complete with tailgating and football.
yah, mid week MAC games are the best. even in the depths of winter, when it's 30 degrees and raining, and there are like 1,500 fans there, it's great to see. I remember I used to bet a lot on Miami when Big Ben was the qb, cause I spotted him as being something special. he most always seemed to win those years. they had a great coach at that time who sadly right after all of his success, he went onto coach Indiana, but got a brain tumor and died. I remember big ben went to one of his last games he coached on the sideline cause he remembered his coach. I thought that showed some class
Akron's Rubber Bowl was arguably the worst college football stadium during it's last years. Ohio's Peden Stadium isn't bad, but isn't great either. However, it's a lot better than the stadiums at EMU, Buffalo, and Kent State.
I’m a Ball State alum. The stadium now is much better than it was when I was there. But the thing that still bothers me to this day is the temporary-looking aluminum bleachers on the east side of the field. After all the improvements that’ve been made, this sticks out like a sore thumb to me. If they would build a permanent structure with the same dimensions as the press box side minus the press box, Scheumann Stadium overall would be a nice little mid-major venue.
Nice to see some MAC love, the current plan is fall 2022 I’ll be attending western Michigan for my masters before going to Michigan state for my doctorate so this is awesome
Miami University, the Great Miami River, and Little Miami River are named after the Miami Native American Tribe. The city of Miami, FL is named after the Great Miami River, because the architects of the road between Daytona Beach and Miami were from Dayton, OH and they got to name the cities at the ends of the road.
FYI for anyone that don't do expanded research the NIU expansion plans shown at 0:50 is from 2014. It is currently not being done and unknown if it ever will from what I can tell
@@Jeff-hq9cf That's kinda sad especially when a D3 school (UW-Whitewater) an 1h33mins across the state border north is able to pull a NET 13.5k each home game (comparing to 2019 numbers), and both schools are in the middle of nowhere
Yes WMUs stadium has been ranked the best for years. Best facilities and score board in the MAC too. In fact, their score board was rated the most innovative state of the art out of the G5 teams. Go Broncos.
Awesome vids like normal, Kelly/Shorts stadium has been updated quite a bit since when ever that pic of the stadium you got was. Have a brand new screen on the endzone with the seating. And they just built a brand new building in place of that old building behind the other endzone.
Good channel and I enjoy checking out all of the stadiums. After watching about 10 of your videos, the only shot you take against a team for not being good is Miami. Meanwhile, Miami has the highest winning percentage and most conference titles in the MAC. I agree they aren’t a National powerhouse, but they are historically the best program in the conference.
Craig Ferguson is the G.O.A.T eh? Careful Icarus! Although, when I'm not checking out The Wide World of Stadiums, I do enjoy the simple pleasures of Daffy Dook.
Fun fact: That's the 2nd UB Stadium and the previous one was built only a few years before it. When I went to UB in 1984, they were still Division III and playing in the ancient stadium on the Main St campus - the stands on one side were condemned and not allowed to be used, the other half SHOULD have been. But in the next year or two they opened UB Stadium version 1 on the Amherst campus. It was a nice little stadium, earth berm built. But then they announced they were moving to Division 1 FCS and so they built ANOTHER UB Stadium that first opened in 1993. The 'old' stadium is now called Walter Kunz Stadium (yeah that name... lol) and it's still there because who wants to tear down a stadium thats less than 10 years old? It's a state university - your tax dollars at work, New Yorkers! :D
Oh by the way, the reason they didn't just expand the V1 UB Stadium - which reportedly was made to be expandable - was that whoever makes these decisions decided it was on the wrong end of the campus, so the new one was built next to Alumni Arena (UB's Amherst Campus was built in the late 60's during the student riot era, so it was built in a 1/2 mile-plus long line of buildings so as not to have a central point to demonstrate at. I have less than fond memories of literally running the length of the campus 'spine' to get to a class 10 minutes after the previous one...)
The MAC is a very stable conference , but I think the time is right to expand their brand with the demise of CUSA there is 2 schools they should consider for expansion. Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee ST. Good basketball and decent football, good basketball, football recruiting areas.
Kelly/Shorts has received some big upgrades since those pictures were taken, notably a new huge video scoreboard on the south end and a new locker room facility on the north end.
Eastern Michigan used to be the Hurons, another name for the Native American Wyandot people. The university chose to replace it with the nickname "Eagles" when they could've gone with the more unique "EMU Emus."
Ball states stadium looks a lot different from what is shown in the video. Past the southern end zone there are now updated stands built on a athletic training building (which is beautiful) and behind that a brand new indoor training facility
As someone who lives in Kalamazoo I must say for a non Power 5 conference stadium, Western's Waldo stadium is pretty nice. However, I've been to Akron's Infocision Stadium and besides the name that stadium is fantastic. I actually went to 3 games the first year it opened ,in 2010 I think, and it was nicer than many some of the Big Ten stadiums I've been to. I've only been to Akron, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Toledo in the MAC but I'm looking forward to getting to more after I complete my trip to all of the Big Ten stadiums (why did the have to add Rutgers and Maryland!?!)
Went to BGSU 80-81 on student exchange from Alabama. Everyone believed couldn’t believe when I said Alabama had only 10-11,00 @ that time, & that Bryant Denny Stadium was ‘only’ 60,000 capacity then. Now we have 38,600 students & the stadium is 102,000 & change. It’s not uncommon for 100,000 to show up just to tailgate.
Living in Toledo, I can tell you a few things... Toledo is the 4th largest city in Ohio, and that stadium is NEVER sold out. Back in the 90s, Busta Rhymes held a concert immediately after the UT game, and if you had tix for the game the concert was free. And even then, not a sell out crowd.

As someone who lives in Florida, I am now pondering how to further make fun of Miami using this fact.
My dad graduated from Miami of Ohio and now lives in Miami, Florida... He lets people know this fact on occasion.
