- I'm truck camping in Idaho and fly fishing 4 amazing streams! Here's the extended video with a ton of extra footage that would not fit in the 15-minute weekly vids (parts 15-19). This is one week of my 9-week truck camping road trip thru Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. I lived off the grid and filmed every day...sharing the adventure now that I'm home and back on the grid. This portion was filmed near the end of August 2021. See parts 15-19 for more video on each stream.
I started my 9 week road trip on July 31, 2022, and spent roughly 3 weeks in WY, ID and MT. Check out all the videos from this trip in the playlist linked below:

Not sure why I care, because I watch for the fishing, but I miss the cooking/camp life portions of your past video series.
That makes two of us.
Showing the camping portions makes it much easier to figure out where he is. As these are my home waters, I’m appreciative he’s not making it too easy to figure it out.
@Craig Borrenpohl I dont want his spots. I have hunted and fished in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming my entire life. I don't recognize a single river or stream he has fished. He shows his selected campsite at the beginning of nearly every video. That argument doesn't hold water. I was talking about him cooking and chilling in camp. If his cooking and chilling at the back of the truck after dinner is giving extra clues to his location, different from the camp location shots, then I am slow on the uptake. Tight lines, my friend.
Some fishermen, and ladies, who do videos, get VERY excited and take the tranquility out of the adventure. Fly fishing is a place I find peace. And Drew, you always help me find it. Thank you so very very much. Tight lines my friend.
Envious 😮and impressed, have fun
Love the longer vids. They still fly by and end too soon.
I’m 66 and I dream of fishing places like this nothing like this where I live in Pennsylvania
Plan it out and go!
Made my Sunday morning this week to have a nice long video to watch while drinking coffee! Thank you much!
two monster cuts at 22 minutes. Drew all nonchalant... I'd be flipping out!
Thanks for taking us along.
Beautiful, beautiful water, and the fish. Thanks drew, enjoyed watching.
Peace Drew! I appreciate how you keep it simple and just fish! Thanks for these videos, I've learned alot from you!
Love the fishing. Amazing spots. Safe travels. Good looking truck build
Super vidio and fly fishing, splendid natura.
Love it when the dry fly disappears. The take is the thing.
Been a fan of your work for awhile, this video might be one of my favorites. Nice, calm and relaxing (minus your morning wake up from the loggers).
Taken away again!Thankyou Drew.
Enjoying the ride❤
Drew those cuttys!!!!WOW!!!! "I had a pretty good day ,yesterday!"lol
Living the dream…good for you!
I like the pointer arrow on dry eats! Most watch on their devices so it helps! Let us know how the analytics turn out on the longer video!
Great video! You are living the dream.
Thanks for another great video. I do enjoy your travels.
Those are some damn nice creek fish! Your system for searching for new areas is awesome!!! Nothing like doing the creek trails & finding a pool!!!
Went small stream fishing in Idaho and the usual larger waters 82-86. Never found any Cutts but got a Rainbow the size of the fish at 24:21. If I had caught a Cutt that big, he would have been a trophy on my wall!
Wish I could go back and do some fishing and hunting. I miss the beauty and solitude there.
Thank you for warming up my winter evening!
Wow, absolutely beautiful area
The extended versions are even more fun.
Another great vid! I love how you keep your hooks nice and sharp. Great!!!!!!!!!
I've been going from Texas to Idaho since the mid 70's with my parents when I was a kid and now as an adult every summer. I love the Clearwater area but there are many others and Montana is also good. Nice vids I hope to do my own one day
OMG, I just started this stream and it's Golden!
My first fishing experience in Bishop ca. FOURTH Recess Lake, see the fish dart in & out of submerged loggs was the highlight of it all I was the only scout with a pole 2fish.
some of those pools look so inviting to go for a swim eh. AH the zen of fly fishing.
This is living the good life, Drew! Also some nice cutthroats as well in those beautiful creeks!
21:20 man that hole had a jumper and you hooked and caught that big bruter cutthroat trout ! Awesome spot there !!
Crazy beautiful. From Josh in Bentonville.
From Melbourne...👏👏👏
So glad to see there actually cutting the burned forest. Chainsaws are the price you lay for healthy woods.
Hey! How about them "Tenkara Addict" arrows.😁
I added an external power brick to the back of my hat so I could plug the GoPro into that and run it all day without changing batteries. Works great.
Idaho is beautiful but Drew you are not at all worried about bears or cougars ? I grew up in Montana and we always had eyes in the back of our heads so to speak we were always packing heat just in case. Be safe and your videos are fishtastic!
I was in Kalispell solo back in the 90's, headed for the Bob Marshall Wilderness. At the bar the night before they told me to take a gun. I said I would chance it with the grizzlies. They said it wasn't the grizzly they were concerned about. I fished the South Fork of the Flathead and a few creeks in Glacier. No cougars or grizz but in Glacier I was fishing near a big pile of day-old grizzly dung. I was singing the Ballad of Jed Clampett all day long! Caught some nice cutts in Glacier.
Love your channel. Ever used the Brindle Chute? Tied by Chuck Stranahan. That is my go to dry in west Montana with out a hatch happening.
Great extra content! Man that's a super nice area w/amazing fish. Curious how many days you typically try to stock up for before heading back into town to restock food, beer (important!), etc.
Beautiful streams. Just gotta know if you’ve ever got pinched with someone coming out of those skinny 'FS roads and one of you has to back up a long ways. That one looked pretty tight!!
Very nice locations. I created my UA-cam channel and social media pages yesterday for my vlogging aspirations. I have so much to learn. You are a great story teller and your minimalist use of cameras (one GoPro Hero 10?) is artful. Your videos are so awesome, but I still have my own ideas, and since I am changing my residency from CO to BC when I go fulltime in my 20' Airstream, I'll be all over North America going north and south with the seasons. 😁 🎣
Was this from over the Summer you got me scratching my head
Not sure if you've posted it in the past but I'd love to see the leader & nymph rigs you use for the small streams in detail.
Likely you won't see this, but I'm heading to Eastern Idaho in early July. I'm looking for a beautiful creek to camp/fly fish with not many people...basically what your videos show. Would you give me a recommendation? We'll be based around Salmon Idaho.
The stream, dreams are made of. Have you ventured out to Oregon before?
Love it. Thanks again for taking me fishing with you. I do have a question. What kind of fly line makes that screeching noise like fingernails on a chalk board? I'd love to know so that I never buy one.
You'd love were I'm from in Virginia the streams In our mountain are full of wild native brook trout an there beautiful check out shenandoah national park that's were I live in elkton virginia
My favorite fly fishing vlogs man, keep it up.
Chonkerville!
Man you hit a lot of different streams in a short period, how can there be so many!? Haha. 30 mins might be kinda long to tell just 1 story. You hit a lot of different waters in one video!
Hey Drew nice video ! I am curious . You mention the ant bite might be good because of it being cloudy .. do you have any idea why that is? Thanks
Thanks for more great footage! Been thinking about trying some of what you do(someday) and wondering your thoughts. After watching some of the roads you take, some can be a bit rough. What is your opinion on a 4 wheel drive sprinter type set up compared to 4x4 pickups such as yours? Do you feel an offroad sprinter could tackle most of the roads you see out there?
Yes, your sprinter will handle 90% of roads. You might skip the narrow paths so you don't scratch up your rig.
Just wondering if you spend any time on the big name streams when you’re out west or do you stick to the smaller back country ones.
Dang. Wish I could've seen this before I went to ID last Sept. I've asked you about the piece I saw you carrying. Do you also have an InReach or something similar for emergencies?
I often pause to look at streams and say to myself, "Nah, too shallow, too fast, rapids everywhere", and yet you prove me wrong every time. I just can't believe the fish you are pulling out of those fast shallow streams. Here is a weird observation that's likely just an illusion, I try to follow your cast, but the strikes always seem to be a lot closer than I was looking at.
Ricardo where do you fish? Especially his Idaho videos the water looks way way slower and calmer than where I usually fish
@@tony52398 Ontario, Canada. There are hardly any trout streams in my area, mostly brookies in small creeks. The game in the rivers here are bass, crappie and walleye. Out east by Windsor I have caught large rainbows (10 pounds plus) in larger rivers. Central and eastern Ontario also have the salmon runs and some Browns. But cut throats like what Drew is catching? Unless I have passed up opportunities by thinking "too fast, too shallow", then nothing here.
@@tony52398 Oh, I should also explain that my kind of fishing experience is like what you see on NDYakAngler and what Drew does is very much different. I have always specifically gone after bass, walleye, crappie and pike. This is why I love to watch Drew's videos and ask questions. Besides, the scenery he finds is leagues better than what I have been used to. Also I really don't fish much anymore because, at 71, there are age related issues (stamina for one).
Woah. Very cool! What type of cutts are those?
West slope Cutt
Drew, do you use On-X or Gaia mapping on your phone? So much info available on those apps.
I've noticed many anglers strip and retrieve differently, what is your preference?
what size is your line again? and leader?
Extended video? Heck. It was too short!
Is this the Clearwater drainage?
Ciao from Italia , che canna usi?
Another awesome episode!👍Tight lines Drew, Steve @blackflycreations
What river tell us please and thank
There's hardly any bad water in Idaho. Cool places aren't hard to find in the mountains, there's adventure in every direction.
I'm from calgary alberta can you give me the names of the streams in case i plan to visit Idaho
How dare you 🤣
@@collin9159 how dare i what???
@@reneguay1347 unless it's a popular, well known fishery, like Henry's lake, Henry's fork, snake river, broadcasting the locations of trout water is practically a sin. It's not good. When you put in the work, often for years, even decades, to finding special water, you'll understand. That said, there's well known, easy access water with world class fishing all over Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. One of my best spots to guarantee fish over 20 inches, and an 18 inch average, is well known, it has a nick name. It's funny, people make flyfishing videos like right by my place, but I'll drive 2 or 3 hours sometimes to fish. Finding water on your own is also part of the adventure. I'll say this for fun. Somewhere in Idaho, you can camp, not far from a road. You can go from soaking in a hot spring to having a bent rod in about 10 minutes, if that. If you find the area I'm talking about you're going to find a river that'll ruin you. Every hole is huge and worthy of a magazine cover, and they just get better as you drive upstream. When you find places like this, you'll see why people keep it to themselves. Good luck.
Idaho really is the most amazing state. I just hope people stop moving here.
Videos like this don’t help. Most of out rivers here are super crowded. Sometimes it feels like he’s trying to ruin every last one.
