In this video i restore and customize a Husky Oldsmobile Starfire Coupe. Check out Toy Polloi: / toypolloi A great channel full of fun toy restorations!
I don't even collect diecast cars, i just watch those videos because damn it is satisfying to watch a work well done. I also really like the wheels on this car.
I'm so glad you like Toy Polloi. He's awesome. I've been watching him for years. I'm a 27 year old woman and have no interest in old kenner figures but I love action figures in general being the huge tomboy that I am. I just found your channel a couple days ago amd I can't stop watching. You guys are both extremely talented and therapeutic to watch.
A big thanks for the shout out. I've been a fan of your channel for a long while. You do amazing work and I've learnt loads from you. Keep up the great videos.
I know this is an old video, but the refills for the Molotow markers you use can be used in an airbrush and produce a chrome finish that is second to none. As for a clear coat, use Alclad II gloss Klear Kote. It is made for metallic paints and won't dull them.
Michael Barry I was kinda thinking along the same lines, was starting to wonder towards the end if he'd use custom(?) waterslide decals to put a white star on the hood.
My Father had an Olds Starfire. Big, Comfortable, and FAST!! I would love to have it now. I can still see my Dad smiling when he hit the gas pedal as soon as my Mom fell asleep on our yearly vacation to Myrtle Beach. Hell of a car!
What an amazing transformation! It seemed like this was a much lower-quality car than a Hot Wheels or Matchbox however I think that the end product after the restoration was one of the nicest I have seen you do. I agree with other commenters, the color you chose was perfect for this car. Thanks for saving it!
In my opinion, the '60s car diecasts are probably the coolest to restore because cars at that time were quite unique and had lots of options and features you won't find on automobiles today! Not to mention, they had style, class, and were works of art in their own right. The Oldsmobile Starfire was indeed a gorgeous and spectacular car in its heyday!
whenever i don't have anything to watch, i see one of your videos suggested. i love these because they're so relaxing and oddly satisfying when you make a car in rough shape look brand new
Mark is right! That is a fender badge! Chrome or yellow, this car looks great!! I love your videos, so many blasts from the past!! Keep up the good work and giving these old toys a new lease on life!
I know this is a very old video, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Growing up, our family car was a 1965 Oldsmobile Dynamic. Very similar to the 65 Starfire you have there. Now, in my 60s, I own a 2 door, 1965 Delta 88. Again, very similar to that toy. FYI, the 'side marker' you painted yellow is actually an Oldsmobile logo badge. There were no side markers on Oldsmobiles until 1968, per federal mandate thanks to a guy named Ralph Nadar.
That colour reminds me of an old school friends fathers Oldsmobile from the mid 1970’s. They were American and brought the car to the town where I lived in the U.K. when they came to live there. Always loved that car!
I honestly love watching your videos sometimes. It's rather soothing in a way, and I like seeing how you turn a car from looking almost like a junker to a thing of beauty. By the way, do you happen to have a P.O. Box or something? I have a few old Hot Wheels cars I would love to send to you and see how you restore them. Even just one of them, really. I want to display them on a shelf I have, but due to their condition, I sadly can't do so...
The final color looks great. For a airbrushable chrome look into the Molotow Liquid Chrome refills. It gives one of the best airbrushed chrome finishes. Lots of UA-cam videos showing it being sprayed on.
Beautiful restoration and great color choice! That raised area on the front fender is not a running light but rather a distinctive crest/emblem that Olds used back then. I immediately recognized it after you stripped the paint and was surprised that Husky included such a small detail on the casting. And if you applied some Armor-All on a q-tip to the tires, the black sheen would make that beautiful paint-job pop even more.
I have two mint of these in the blue. That olive is stunning and if I thought I'd have a fraction of the talent to do so, I'd change out one to Spctraflame Olive as well!
That color is perfect for that car. That color or a dark maroon/brown. My dad had a Chevy Caprice that was a sightly lighter shade of this. What a boat!?
I never even heard of Husky but it's not surprising as there's probably been, and still are, dozens of companies making cheap diecasts. I really liked that olive color as it reminds me of the factory paint job our '71 Monte Carlo had.
I would have used either the chrome pen or sprayed the body color on the wheels. Maybe sprayed the plastic seats tan or white. But the car looks amazing. Its amazing what you pull of with these shot out cars! :-D
I think that's a 1966 Olds, just looking at the "Coke Bottle" rear fenders. I sure love watching your resto videos though. You do some excellent work! Wow! White Vinegar will remove rust? I should try that!
Toy Polloi ? - Great find! And, the "Olds" came out very nice. Oh, and Mark Simonds (read the comments) got it right (and left) - it's the Olds Badge not a side marker - chrome pen at the ready. Thanks for sharing...
Nice restoration. Husky were sold exclusively through Woolworths in the UK, maybe the same in the US? They were built down to a price, a couple of notches above bubble gum machine toys. However they were UK manufactured and die cast, but as this video shows the chassis let them down, something they fixed near the end of their existence. Their featherweight meant kids didn't take them too seriously, and many succumbed to crash damage early making them relatively rare in good condition.
Awesome! I’d love to have it. I bet you could have got the remaining scratches in the windshield out with Polywatch. Polywatch comes in a small tube. It’s expensive for what you get, but it works REALLY well.
I've recently just bought this same car off Ebay, thanks to this video, I now know about the availability of certain paints and how I can restore it. Keep up the good work, baremetalHW!
what you just did was amazing you took a complete turd and turned it into jewelry I mean yeah the flaws in the casting can't be helped so now it's not perfect like you said but still wow great job and I love that color
I think this is my favorite one of your videos, mostly because of what you're willing to do to the car to make it look good vis-à-vis restoration v. customization. I have noticed that in your most recent Redline videos you are doing much less in terms of removing mold lines and flashing and polishing. I would like to see more customization, but realize you might not want to take that approach with an expensive Redline. So instead can you do more involved customizations with more of these older and less expensive cars? More mirror-bright zinc plating and polishing and more extensive flashing and mold line removal? I love watching you take old diecast cars and make them look better than new.
Love that olive green! My only issue with this project is the lack of Chrome on the "hubcaps". The lack of color there makes the wheel look odd in my opinion.
Agree with the other comments - great video and cool seeing a different manufacturer. Not that I don't like Hot Wheels, but the other brands are interesting to see. I particularly like the Lesney/Matchbox ones. Also liked the extended runtime. These videos are always too short! Thanks for posting.
Nice results! I used to have a ton of Husky cars when I was a kid, because my mom wouldn’t spend the extra $ on Hot Wheels...if you can believe that .69 cents versus .99 cents for Hot Wheels...but that .30 cent difference was equal to a loaf of bread, back in 1968-‘69...My favorite Husky was the Batmobile! I loved it until my little brother played with it and destroyed it...
Excellent work! I would've like to have seen you paint the interior a different color. Black or a flat olive would look really good. Just my opinion. The car probably looks better now than it did when it was brand new.
I really like these alt brand cars. I suspect the steering wheel was positioned this way on purpose to make it easier to see. The cars lack interior detail as is so pushing the steering wheel closer to the "glass" really helps.
Excellent video you are No 1 in restoration die-cast models, I have purchased recently a zylmex mini and have noticed that base has snap into is possible to fix back together. Can you help please!
I don't even collect diecast cars, i just watch those videos because damn it is satisfying to watch a work well done.
I also really like the wheels on this car.
Same... don't even know why the first video I watch ended up on my feed, but man it's therapeutic to watch these.
I don’t post on it but I do it my self you get a sense of accomplishment when you see such a huge difference
Great video, but on a ‘64 Oldsmobile that is a fender badge, not a side marker light. Hit it with the chrome pen 😀
will do!! thanks!!
baremetalHW baremetalHW What happened to the Charger Are you still going to repaint?????!!!!
@@baremetalHW Side markers didn't become mandatory until '68.
the side emblem on car is a red rocket
It’s actually a 65 or 66. I haven’t read down far enough to see if someone else caught that.
I'm so glad you like Toy Polloi. He's awesome. I've been watching him for years. I'm a 27 year old woman and have no interest in old kenner figures but I love action figures in general being the huge tomboy that I am. A big thanks for the shout out. I've been a fan of your channel for a long while. You do amazing work and I've learnt loads from you. Keep up the great videos.
Toy Polloi you’re welcome !!!
This is how I found Toy Polloi all those years ago
I know this is an old video, but the refills for the Molotow markers you use can be used in an airbrush and produce a chrome finish that is second to none. As for a clear coat, use Alclad II gloss Klear Kote. It is made for metallic paints and won't dull them.
Where do you get the refills for the Molotow Chrome pens? I can only get the pens at Hobby Lobby.
It looks like an Army car, one an old, high-ranking general would use to drive around the base as his retirement nears.
Michael Barry
I was kinda thinking along the same lines, was starting to wonder towards the end if he'd use custom(?) waterslide decals to put a white star on the hood.
Michael Barry
Here’s one he did which is similar to your idea...
ua-cam.com/video/tQwzHp4WB60/v-deo.html
I LOVE that color
Olive is my favorite color, I got so excited when I saw he chose it lol
Robert Flores My real 1968 Pontiac GTO is code Q Verdoro Green. Looks pretty darn close. The color has a gold tint to it when out in the sun.
thanks . it’s mine
I'm sure you've heard this before, but you are the Bob Ross of UA-cam. Seriously
Nicholas Walsh *_he shows amazing results that anyone can do!_*
It looks utterly gorgeous when finished.

I don’t collect, restore or have any die cast cars. I watch these videos for the pleasure of seeing this wonderful art of restoration.
Thank you!
In my opinion, the '60s car diecasts are probably the coolest to restore because cars at that time were quite unique and had lots of options and features you won't find on automobiles today! This restoration turned out really good.
whenever i don't have anything to watch, i see one of your videos suggested. i love these because they're so relaxing and oddly satisfying when you make a car in rough shape look brand new
That’s a 70’s flashback look to me. Came out great!
Still my favorite of your videos.
Please do more customs restorations like this please it's always fun to watch your content. Id love to watch these off brand classics
The "side marker light" is actually the Oldsmobile badge
crap... i was wondering what that was... thanks for the info.
You beat me to it, Used to drive a 65 Oldsmobile.
Yes, you should paint over it with the chrome instead. American cars did not have to have side marker lights until 1968.
Mark is right! That is a fender badge!
Chrome or yellow, this car looks great!!
I love your videos, so many blasts from the past!!
Keep up the good work and giving these old toys a new lease on life!
Love the green paint. Great choice.
I thought I was the only person that still had this car!! I'm happy to see what it would look like restored...
I know this is a very old video, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Growing up, our family car was a 1965 Oldsmobile Dynamic. Very similar to the 65 Starfire you have there. awesome! it really dose look like a vintage MATCHBOX. you did an amazing job at restoring it!!!
That colour reminds me of an old school friends fathers Oldsmobile from the mid 1970’s. They were American and brought the car to the town where I lived in the U.K. when they came to live there. Always loved that car!
Man that came out real nice! More please!! Great job!!
If you decided to let this go feel free to hand it over at the next toy show. Gorgeous!
This project came out absolutely amazing. The before and after I think is the best work yet nice
dude, that looks really good. the chrome accents you gave it with the marker really make it stand out!
I have a Olds Starfire Coupe same as this! It was kool to see it restored. I've had mine since new. Would love to see it new again.
Maybe you can e-mail him, his e-mail adress is on his about page.
Hey can i get that plz😢😴😢
The final color looks great.
For a airbrushable chrome look into the Molotow Liquid Chrome refills. It gives one of the best airbrushed chrome finishes. Lots of UA-cam videos showing it being sprayed on.

I'm not in this hobby whatsoever, don't know how I got here, and yet I love watching these restoration videos.
This is one of my favorites. Probably because it was beater husky and it became this olive gem. Thanks
My first car was a 1968 Olds Delmont 88 convertible (w/ 455 c.i. engine) and it was a green color like this. Excellent choice.
I hope you never stop making these videos. They're so relaxing to watch
I have two mint of these in the blue. That olive is stunning and if I thought I'd have a fraction of the talent to do so, I'd change out one to Spctraflame Olive as well!
Best video yet! I really enjoy watching this, it's very satisfying.
....
yeah very sexysexying!!
You made a cheaper looking model look really presentable, nice job !
That color is perfect for that car. That color or a dark maroon/brown. My dad had a Chevy Caprice that was a sightly lighter shade of this. What a boat!?
Wow that car came out gorgeous, love those old big cars! Two thumbs my friend
Beautiful result for a 50c car. As usual, a great video production. My week is complete, thank you sir
I never even heard of Husky but it's not surprising as there's probably been, and still are, dozens of companies making cheap diecasts. I really liked that olive color as it reminds me of the factory paint job our '71 Monte Carlo had.
Adam Savage has an awesome chrome paint that he uses. With a clear coat that doesn't affect the finish
Incredible restoration....CONGRATULATIONS 😊😊👍🏿
this is by far one of your greatest jobs. I love it, you made it look amazing congrats
I would have used either the chrome pen or sprayed the body color on the wheels. Maybe sprayed the plastic seats tan or white. But the car looks amazing. Its amazing what you pull of with these shot out cars! :-D
I’ve always wanted to see a demo derby custom
An opening trunk lid... Husky really knew how to build excitement into their toys for the kiddies, didn't they? 😉
Nice work, love the added colors to the body, red and silver. They bring out a better looking car. Thanks for sharing.
Just beautiful work!!! Love the color.
Omg I love that olive color it matches the cars time period so well
Kadin Luongo ii
I think that's a 1966 Olds, just looking at the "Coke Bottle" rear fenders.
I sure love watching your resto videos though. You do some excellent work!
Wow! White Vinegar will remove rust? I should try that!
I thought the comparison between the white and black chrome made the opposite point to what you said. The black looked way better. Worth doing imo.
I'm so glad I found this channel and others like it. It makes me want to look for my old toy box and get my Hot Wheels out and look at them again!
To make it pure clean and simple, I used to collect all of these evil horde action figures. Back then during the late 1980s.
Something so satisfying about your word choice the way you talk and the cool cloe ups. Oh and the cars!
Nice to restore something that didn't have quality control for once, It turned out great!
I love your channel so much, I was part of that reddit surge a few months ago and your videos are just so therapeutic to watch
instead of happy little trees we have awesome little cars ;)
mike james I feel like I should understand that
Toy Polloi ? - Great find! And, the "Olds" came out very nice. Oh, and Mark Simonds (read the comments) got it right (and left) - it's the Olds Badge not a side marker - chrome pen at the ready.
Thanks for sharing...
These old Husky cars are neat. I've started looking at buying some to mess with. The 59 Buick is especially neat.
Do you ever media blast any of these cars? I know baking soda is relatively gentle?
Nice restoration. Husky were sold exclusively through Woolworths in the UK, maybe the same in the US? They were built down to a price, a couple of notches above bubble gum machine toys. However they were UK manufactured and die cast, but as this video shows the chassis let them down, something they fixed near the end of their existence.
Their featherweight meant kids didn't take them too seriously, and many succumbed to crash damage early making them relatively rare in good condition.
I use the molotow chrome also on the windowtrim lines. Real nice effect. Another husky saved here👍
Great job with that "time period accurate" color! You really did excellent work with this one.
Boy that turned out nice. Good to see something unusual.
Fantastic restore, unbelievable difference.
Awesome! I’d love to have it. I bet you could have got the remaining scratches in the windshield out with Polywatch. Polywatch comes in a small tube. It’s expensive for what you get, but it works REALLY well.
I recall Husky cars they were cheaper and one thing that stands out was the rubber that gave the wheels spring like action. good video and topic ...
That is an amazing rescue. Looks phenomenal. Also, nice of you to shout out Toy Polloi. Agreed, his channel is great- he should have way more subs.
I've recently just bought this same car off Ebay, thanks to this video, I now know about the availability of certain paints and how I can restore it. Keep up the good work, baremetalHW!
That looks so good. If it wasn’t for the wheels, you wouldn’t know it was a cheap knockoff of a hot wheel
what you just did was amazing you took a complete turd and turned it into jewelry I mean yeah the flaws in the casting can't be helped so now it's not perfect like you said but still wow great job and I love that color
Xlent! Took an old low quality car and made it shine. Well done sir!
There are some chrome "rub" powders for nails that are amazing. You can clear nail top coat over them so I assume they'd work.
That color is kick ass dude
Reforma caminhões também. Sou do Brasil mas sempre acompanho seus vídeos. Parabéns pelo trabalho. Muito show
The drab green was a nice choice. Feels very period correct.
I think this is my favorite one of your videos, mostly because of what you're willing to do to the car to make it look good vis-à-vis restoration v. customization. I have noticed that in your most recent Redline videos you are doing much less in terms of removing mold lines and flashing and polishing.

I haven’t seen all your videos, but this is probably my favorite of your restorations
wow it's a husky I love those old things
WOW! Nice color choice, it kind of makes the body tails pop out.
Love that olive green! My only issue with this project is the lack of Chrome on the "hubcaps". The lack of color there makes the wheel look odd in my opinion.
Wow this has probably been the biggest transformation yet! So awesome!
I love this restoration, well done! So awesome you gave a shout out to Toy Polloi.
Agree with the other comments - great video and cool seeing a different manufacturer. Not that I don't like Hot Wheels, but the other brands are interesting to see. I particularly like the Lesney/Matchbox ones. Also liked the extended runtime. These videos are always too short! Thanks for posting.
My favorite one so far. That looks fantastic!

I loved it until my little brother played with it and destroyed it...
beautiful piece of history...
Not only a great video, but what an awesome shoutout to ToyPolloi. That's pretty nice of you :)
This is mesmerizing. Such attention to detail and great knowledge sharing - thank you.
Cool restoration, Husky was the forerunner of Corgi Juniors made by the Mettoy company.
Excellent work! I would've like to have seen you paint the interior a different color. Black or a flat olive would look really good. Just my opinion.
The car probably looks better now than it did when it was brand new.
That was a dang good restoration. The before and after are night and day.
I have a husky, starfire, same car. Going to fix mine soon too but sadly the grille is broken. Love your redo
Totally amazing! While I appercaite the authenticity, this car would have been spectacular with some wheel upgrades.
Toy polloi is my favorite and I found you through the recommended after frequently watching him
