9:30 Both jingles are used in the final game. Jingle 1 is used when beating the set high score in the post game. Jingle 2 is used when selecting the new game option while already having an existing save file.
I wouldn't be surprised if Ekans was planned for the cut horror level, seeing as how snakes can be considered scary. Zubat may have been part of that as well, specifically flying towards you like it does in the Tunnel level. I can also see the Koffing and Jigglypuff section of the Cave level being part of that stage as well, what with Koffing's skull and crossbones pattern and the fact that the Jigglypuff are clearly scared of the Koffing. As far as additional Pokemon that weren't in the game... well, Gastly, Gengar, Cubone and Marowak are obvious choices. I can also see Rattata and Raticate scurrying around outside, Venomoth taking to the night sky, Mr. Mime practicing its routine, and Clefairy and Clefable dancing around the point in the level where you're closest to the moon.
True, imagine a snake under that dead tree there. But yeah all of that from the tunnel would make a lot of sense which again goes back to the idea that maybe they did move a section of the level to it.
Ghost and psychic Pokémon would make sense for the cut horror level as a nod to Lavender Town’s Pokémon Tower where Ash gets Haunter to take on Kedabra.
worth noting in the final, snorlax will dance if you play the poke flute. the type of dance he does changes depending upon the tune played. also, the "yellow grass" is clearly a savanna. Also it's possible the horror map would have had other "creepy" pokemon....such as cubone. (which in the gen I games CAN be found in the wild in pokemon tower and is even masked like the ghost pokemom before getting the silph scope)
Knowing a lot more about game development history than I did in years past, my theory with Ekans: Since we see that the model is complete with at least 1 animation, I bet him not being in the game was an unfortunate oversight. They probably moved pokemon and map props around constantly up until the very end and I bet what happened is that Ekans was removed with the removal of the beta map, meant to go somewhere else, never happened.
Yeah I can see that being an oversight. Still odd that he wasn't even in the data... but I guess Jack and Beans team were very thorough with removing what they weren't using, so if he was in that old 64DD beta map only, I can it being removed all together including Ekans
@@TheObsessiveGamer Yeah the fact he wasn't left in the game data is the one thing throwing me off and I don't have a good explanation for. If they were thorough enough to clean up the files then why was Ekans overlooked until they found and deleted his files? Hopefully we'll get another giga-leak situation with some Pokemon Snap cut content in the future and some answers. I'd love to see the cut maps.
@@Dorito_Djinn Well it's more I think that the was only int that first grass map and when they deleted that map, they likely got ride of Ekans with it and just forgot about him after
They wanted to release the game at the same time as the movie to improve sales, but the game wasn't finished so they gave up on that idea and released it when it was finished. A lot of game companies nowadays would never.
Man, now that I know that the game was originally was supposed to be based on Jack and the Beanstalk, I’m really wondering what that build of the game was like. My best theory on what it could’ve been was taking pictures of the giant’s kingdom (tho I can understand how there’d be the problem of motivation for it) Still, I wonder if there’s any more footage of the game beyond what’s seen here (or even the beta build for it), I would’ve loved to see what the game looked like.
I was thinking about that myself. I wouldn't be surprised if a level of just going up the beanstalk exists where you take pictures of various creatures around it. Otherwise the Kingdom of the Giant would make the most sense.
My kids (now 35 & 29) loved Pokemon Snap when it came out! They'd already been playing Red & Yellow so they were very familiar with these Gen 1 Pokemon and had a great time even just watching my husband play this game. My oldest was still very excited when she heard that the new version was coming out. Seeing videos like this one brings back great memories of my young children all those years ago. 😊
I imagine the horror themed level sort of following the Anime episode of when Ash Pikachu and friends go to a haunted house to try catch a ghost pokemon (Haunter) in the original first season something similar like how that episode plays out.
very true I can also tell you this when n64 was made when pokemon stadium was also made the 3d models were also created to test the, for other games such as in snap :) @@TheObsessiveGamer
I assume at first they tried to make the horror level just based around the Gastly family line, but then wanted to later on incorporate other elements of spookiness. Still, it feels like that Pinsir secret sign and the room you're in before coming across the Electabuzz may have been based on what little even existed for that unused horror area.
i loved that game, when it came out. got it as a birthday present. didn't heart of it before. i woke up early in the morning to play the game before i had to go to school. it's not a long game or very complex, but it was something new. i wish it would have been bigger. even as a kid, it didn't took me long to 100% the game.
You could make a full horror level from gen one easy. Beyond the ghost Pokémon, you got bats, Cubone and Marowak that could lurk by some bones, Clefairy, while not spooky, could have something moon related to do, Venomoths could burst out of an attic as easily as Zubats. And even Drowsy, Hypno, Abra and evolutions would be welcome in such a level! I’d love to see a Kadabra guessing what card you’re thinking of, out of “star, circle, triangle and squiggle” (If I’m remembering the set correctly)
I would think there would be plenty of Spooky pokemon besides the Gengar line and Cubone/Marowak. Aside from Koffing, Grimer, Zubat, and the cut Ekans, but also Ratatta (scurrying rats), Arbok (scary face), Golbat (another big spooky tongue), Spearow/Fearow (scary birds), Ninetails (lots of spooky references), Hypno/Drowzee (the dream eaters), Gloom (so sad and stinky), Paras/Parasect (literal zombie bugs) Venonat (its big glowing eyes), Kabutops (its scythes) and even Mr. Mime (just an extra layer of uncomfortable) Theres a lot to work with just touching what they didnt used, but the time constraints probably wouldnt have them make so many more pokemon.
Another cut content youtuber has footage of the cut horror stage, its only a few seconds but it was clearly reworked into part of the power plant as the haunter it shows acts in the same manpor as he does in the final game.
A lot of the models here seem really early even older than Pokémon stadium(jp) , only Bulbasaur is using this game's model . Meowth an Pidgey seems to always had the same model from the get go though .
Yeah makes sense since development began roughly 96-97 afterall. Infact I bet none of the models were used for Stadium since Nintendo EAD made that and probably just made their own models instead
The cadence of your narration is in some parts of this a little bit odd? I don’t want to be too critical, but it just struck me as noteworthy. In any case, this is a nice video.
I’ve always wanted a more open ended take on this style of game for Pokémon. It was a little bit of a bummer that the sequel adhered so closely to the original game, not really adding much to the gameplay mechanically.
While I agree that i'd like to see a more open ended one myself, I think the sequel had to at least resemble the original to a decent degree simply cause it had been so long. I say a third game however should definitely make it more open ended

The Jinx thing is still incredibly hilarious to me.
