Despite being one of the more low key villains in the game, he was quite effective given just how sinister he was. That chapter was one of the darker ones in the game purely because of him and what he does, and kind of has this murder mystery vibe that's actually quite compelling. Just the way he drains people for his own personal gain and covers it up makes him one of the darker villains of the game. Sometimes a comparatively smaller villain in something is substantially more effective given the way the piece of media will amplify it, and I thought it was done pretty well in that regard.
It's one of those parts of a game where you need to play it twice to understand all of the things that make it so good. Best chapter imo, that or chapter 5.

Nick Diggers This is personally one of my favorite Mario games both story and gameplay wise and every boss in its own way is sinister Except 6 which is humorous to take away from how sinister the rest are. Chapter 1 Hooktail is eating the citizens of petalberg, Chapter 2 lord crump is capturing the residents of that tree (cant remember the name) Chapter 4 your identity is stolen and your partners have no idea, chapter 5 the spirits of the dead haunt your ship presumably because they died out in sea. Chapter 7 you face lord crump again basically killing TEC, (even though you can go back and see him somehow which was kinda weak :/) And finally in the thousand year door The Shadow queen needs a pure being (The sacrificial virgin :p)
Nick Diggers SOrry for reviving a dead post, but it's certainly worth noting that he's also the only Villain in the game that actually (successfully)uses the power of a crystal star for his own nefarious purposes.
Damn, Whenever I listen to this I remember when I first played through it, everyone else in the house were asleep, and I had still only been aged nearly 6 years the lead up to this and the music made me tremble in awe to the point where "stylish" hits were almost impossible, I cried half happily when I beat him, because of the story and because of how I ran on adrenaline fighting the boss in legitimate fear and awe... truly brings back good memories
This song fits so perfectly it hurts, manages to combine the stylish "pit fight" vibe of the Glitz Pit with intimidating and tense elements because the stakes for this fight are really high relative to the fun, more laid back tone of most of Chapter 3.
"These moves were outlawed back in my days, Gonzalez!" Towards the end of the battle... "Good fi...i..g-g-go-g...g..grEaT...g-g-G-GonZalEZ...Hurrnnggh..."
New Paper Mario for WiiU, made with as much love and care as this one. One that goes back to everything that makes TTYD the absolute best in my eyes, without the gimmicks that ruined Sticker Star or the dramatic gameplay change that hurt Super (although I still like SPM) Please Nintendo. Please!
Willy Larson Other m GAMEPLAY was good its just the story/narrative was shit. They should have left samus a mysterious bounty hunter, not this chick bowing to that guy all "i wont use my weapons unless u give me permission" and shit
@@MorbidAnimosity I would say decent, not good. It was pretty shallow compared to other similar games and almost completely lacked Metroid's exploration elements.
This was my first ever GC game and man I played it. At the time I didn't have a memory card and had to keep starting from the start. But now I beat it about 6 times, and this will always be one of my favorite games, right up there with EarthBound and Sonic Adventure.
I'd honestly love to know what happened to Grubba after the events of TTYD. He was such a sinister, threatening villain, and I don't know about you guys, but I never expected him to be the bad guy of the chapter early on. I'd like to see him come back in a future game personally, since his story feels so incomplete. In fact, much of TTYD feels that way, which is why Nintendo really would have a lot of great things to expand on if they wanted to. It really disappoints me that they haven't.
He either died or was arrested presumably. How was much of TTYD's story incomplete? Most of the chapter antagonists don't require any relevance after their own one. Lord Crump in chapter 2 and 7 is a recurring enemy. Hooktail dies. Cortez becomes a buddy with you. Grubba dies/is arrested, (without Crystal Star power he's a normal guy who can't do shit.) Doopliss ends up being recruited by the Shadow Sirens in Vivian's place So that really leaves Smorg, who was very much a wtf boss (though not even the one that was holding the Crystal Star.)
Personally, when I first saw him, I never thought of him as a boss, since there was no reason to believe Rawk *wouldn't* be the boss at that point (He had the star on his belt, I figured we would beat him, become the champion and just grab the star from the belt). I still thought he was a bad guy, in the "skeevy fight club organizer" kind of way. I'm glad we got to fight him because the whole chapter I wanted to just beat him up
This was such an awesome game!!!!!!!!! I remember playing it for the first time and being amazed at how epic and awesome a mario RPG was (this was my first mario RPG) it made me get into the series and ive played all the paper marios lol they're all awesome but IMO this was the best one!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this game... beat it several times. When I first played this, it was so amazing! Every chapter had some other surprises, and although they all had some boring and long parts, they were all great! My favourite single player gamecube game!
Otacon: His HP stands at an incredible 60, his attack is 4, his defense is 0. When he's exhausted, he'll make himself harder to hit using an ancient reality bending technique. Snake: Hmm. No wonder he was the champion. But those tricks of his don't make him invincible in any case. Otacon: Right you are, Snake. All right, go get him. I'm rooting for you.
Well that can really be said for any boss battle. My most hated for instance is Doopliss. He has been turning innocent villagers into pigs just for the laughs, he refuses to accept defeat and cheats by taking over your body. He decieves your partners into fighting against you. He makes you realise how weak you are without your partners, and you wanted to kick his ass and get the partners you had grown attached to back.
tubba blubba is which i call a collosal clubba, which are like the alphamale of clubbas like bowser which i call a royal koopa, which are the alphamale of koopas
I think it's my favourite "surprise" game. I bought it when it was released, because my fav' mag noted it 9/10,without being really attracted by the game. Finally i LOVE this game, second RPG,after Golden Sun, and actually it's probably my best gamecube game.
Nintendo just raised the fucking benchmark for themselves on this one. I never, ever, ever, expected music like this, on a Mario game. Just hearing Bowser's fight theme be DRUM & BASS was mad enough, daymn....
Another thing needed to point for Vivian and Koops is just why the Hell Veil is preferred over Shell Shield. There's a reason for it to cost too many Flowers; damage that goes beyond the shell's HP does not stack onto Mario, therefore you can completely waste a charged attack, and even evading a charged attack underground provides that you're willing to get hit with whatever the opponent chooses to spike you with on their extra turn. And you could have just had that very turn with thy god Koopa.
@dottedboy yeah, although the first time playing thru, u dont have any clue that grubba is the chapter villain until the end, but tubba blubba is mentioned constantly
The ampunt of times i've copied data on Nintendo games to new files just before bosses, just to hear their awesome themes..... this. was the most commonly played. Epic soundtrack to 1 of the weirdest games ever made, which surprisingly was utterly epic too.
Snake: So this is what Grubba's truly looked like, huh. Otacon: Yes. This is Macho Grubba. Snake: Hmm. Silly name. Otacon: I think it fits him well. True to his name, he's very tough. He uses psychotherapy to buff the number of times he can attack and his defense or offense. Then he uses the moves from his glory days, including body slams, and punches. Using psychothereapy, Star Power, and a never-ending supply of spirit, Macho Grubba will prove to be a very formidable opponent.
You gotta admit though, Grubba had charisma. He had that Nintendo charm that so many of the friendly NPCs had. They never once let slip that Grubba was evil, until the moment of truth.
Right? I agree! I still play Pokemon red and all the other versions after 12 years and all my other childhood games I have (Kirby, Mario, Kingdom Hearts, Zelda). Although I play the new games that come out, the classics are always the best XDD
I don't know why but Jolene and X scared the crap out of me. Just that eerie e-mail I'd always get and Jolene catching me when I was sneaking around. And the WORSt part was when I entered the Storage Room. I thought she was going to be in there or something...

MACHO GRUBBA (more like nacho grubba)
I always pictured a great voice for Grubba, if they were to ever add voices, would be King Dedede's voice from Kirby Right Back At Ya. XD
Monchan nah mate it's the game grumps voice for gim
"I need summin t'a clobbah dat Gonzales!"
I did that too lmfao
Ok. Arin's voice from the grump playthrough has been beaten.
This chapter really scared me as a kid, going into the air vents and spying on Grubba was creepy.
the entire chapter was creepy as hell
Damn, Whenever I listen to this I remember when I first played through it, everyone else in the house were asleep, and I had still only been aged nearly 6 years the lead up to this and the music made me tremble in awe to the point where "stylish" hits were almost impossible, I cried half happily when I beat him, because of the story and because of how I ran on adrenaline fighting the boss in legitimate fear and awe... truly brings back good memories
For real. This track was pretty unusual from the previous themes in the game, it instantly grabbed my attention. It's just so menacing.
IT'S ME MARIO! IT'S ME MARIO! IT WAS ME ALL ALONG MARIO!
YOU ALL BOUGHT IT! YOU ALL BOUGHT IT, HOOK, LINE, AND SINKER!
AW SON OF A CHAIN CHOMP
I love both of you for this
wtf is a sonic!
the wwe fan in me cries with happiness at this..
In light of this chapter of the game, Grubba kind of comes across as the "Don King" of the Mario universe.
"NOBODY CALLS ME TUBBY"
They had to make some of his moves illegal back in his day!
Muuuuuuuuuscle up!
Huh, this sounds like it could fit into a Metroid Prime boss fight.
+Cyyberslam8 its a remix of a prime sound track. i think against the parasite queen not sure.
i think it sounds more like earthbound
This song fits so perfectly it hurts, manages to combine the stylish "pit fight" vibe of the Glitz Pit with intimidating and tense elements because the stakes for this fight are really high relative to the fun, more laid back tone of most of Chapter 3.
Can't believe he used the Crystal Star to kill King K, Bandy Andy and even Prince Mush!
He didn't kill them. He used the crystal star to drain their energy.
Theyellowflash6 yeah but we didn't know that when we all first played the game....
And trap them in the crystal star. Reminds me of that one teen titans villain. @$$holes. both of em.
Best song in the game

i... would take.... Metroid other M type changes.... to sticker star....

Fight sequence, BGM, story all flawlessly executed. An amazing game and a particularly memorable moment from the 2nd Paper Mario
This music makes me all powerful against enemies, including tests, homework and school.

Paper ttyd has the greatest beats and rhythm. No other game could ever be like this one.

SO GOOD AND GOLDEN! 😎😎😎😎😎😍😍😍😍😍😁😁😁😁😁😭😭😭😭😭🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🌇🌇🌇🌇🌇🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
One of the few games in which I like all of the boss music. Usually there is something that is wrong, but Paper Mario is awesome!
really cool music!!
Funny how with all his powerups he was still easy, yet epic and fun. LOVE this game! Gotta get it and play it again!
It's things like that, that I feel make games enjoyable.
Ahh the Glitz Pit. Best part of all the Paper Mario games.
my fav boss in paper mario history.. and an amazing song :D
Man I love this song, especially when I hear the siren.
This game is a overlooked gem...
Super Saiyan Grubba!
I love this game... beat it several times. When I first played this, it was so amazing! Every chapter had some other surprises, and although they all had some boring and long parts, they were all great! My favourite single player gamecube game!
Dis one of the tightest beatz in da game.
HAHAHAHA AWESOME VIDEO GOOD WORK YOUR VIDS ROCK :)
He looks awesome
a game everyone must have, never get bored.
I don't think theres ever been a Paper Mario battle music that wasn't catchy xD THIS GAME'S MUSIC ROCKED!!!
The drum beat in this song is so friggin' sick. XD
This game is a must have
Attack boosts combined with Yoshi's groundpound are a godsend in this battle.
the theme really fits the style of busting some kind of scam (which is appropriate since Grubba tricked you)
I want to play this back D: I miss good time
Otacon: His HP stands at an incredible 60, his attack is 4, his defense is 0.
Macho Grubba always dresses in style.
Favorite chapter. Favorite boss music. Hands down.
Man, I miss this game.
bought it
played it
waited
waited some more
still waiting
listened to music on youtube
especially vivian. i felt so bad for her D:!! i was extremely happy when she joined the team
I TOTALLY agree with you on that one dude!!!
Well that can really be said for any boss battle.
My most hated for instance is Doopliss. He has been turning innocent villagers into pigs just for the laughs, he refuses to accept defeat and cheats by taking over your body. Grubba's like "dammit dammit dammit dammit dammit that jus' aint right'
Yeah I agree I loved that chapter
Macho Grubba buffing himself to get more turns so he can add more buffs that give him more turns
I think it's my favourite "surprise" game. I bought it when it was released, because my fav' mag noted it 9/10,without being really attracted by the game.
Finally i LOVE this game, second RPG,after Golden Sun, and actually it's probably my best gamecube game.

most bad ass boss in the entire game!! loved it! :D
@ultementnuma
Huge thumbs up. I replay this game so often just to get to this chapter and have a long drawn out battle with Grubba.
Another thing needed to point for Vivian and Koops is just why the Hell Veil is preferred over Shell Shield. Officially my boss battle theme.
Awesome music, easy fight.

Epic soundtrack to 1 of the weirdest games ever made, which surprisingly was utterly epic too.
This guy is super old though, he was using the crystal star for immortality. He's probably old enough to be Tubba Blubba's grandfather.
damn i remember this game and this is 1 epic song. good times...
I could imagine this quote getting thrown around: "I pity the fool with the 'stache and red hat!"
Now this is a Glitz Pit fight!!!!
You've just been Graabba'd
this boss is badass :) and he is awesome
Snake: So this is what Grubba's truly looked like, huh.

After Tubba Blubba was defeated he had his son, Grubba and opened up the MMA (Mario Martial Arts)
Until now i never heard the super star music in the background
My favorite chapter my second favorite one is the one where your on the train to solve clues this is one of my favorite Nintendo games ever made :D
I find it amusing that his moves are based on cheating.
You gotta admit though, Grubba had charisma. He had that Nintendo charm that so many of the friendly NPCs had. They never once let slip that Grubba was evil, until the moment of truth.
The Glitzville chapter was always one of my favorites. Just because Yoshi.
damn you grubba, you have a better theme than me
Yeah! I love Grubba, and Tubba Blubba, and the rest of the Clubbas!
One of the few gamecube games I never traded it in. To this day, the only games I didn't get rid of were PM2, Windwaker and Rayman 3. =)
"More chances to attack are now available"
After listening to Monkey Ball and Earthbound VGMs, you totally forget about Paper Mario VGMs which will always remain excellent.
this was the best chapter of paper mario 2 next to chapter 6. i like the whole mystery and espionage/rescue mission style of those chapters.
Right? I agree! I still play Pokemon red and all the other versions after 12 years and all my other childhood games I have (Kirby, Mario, Kingdom Hearts, Zelda). Although I play the new games that come out, the classics are always the best XDD
i have mario and your right its a must have game macho grubba is my favorite boss wish i could fight old bosses again
He's just my first favorite boss!! :DD MAAAAACCCCHHHHHOOOOOOO
Macho Grubba may be macho, but he cannot stop THE RAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWK!!!
Best game of the paper mario series
I don't know why but Jolene and X scared the crap out of me. Just that eerie e-mail I'd always get and Jolene catching me when I was sneaking around. And the WORSt part was when I entered the Storage Room. I thought she was going to be in there or something...
For some reason when Macho does the whole "MACHO GRUBBA" thing I always say "NACHOOOOOOOOO!!!" like from Nacho Libre. I have no idea why.
He's been grubbin on macho cheese
WHO ARE WE FIGHTING ABOUT?!!
I swear you can rap to this song.
Shrinking this guy turns him to normal size.
I just noticed that he's basically a big orange penguin with a spiky shell and super Saiyan hair
Macho Grubba and Tubba Blubba are both members of the Clubba species. If I tried to say that out loud my tongue would've gone on strike.
Very true.
@DarkT769 I think he means that the third boss in paper mario 1 and 2 were both clubbas, but in paper mario 3 the third boss is francis.
