the reason older discs read alot better when highly scratched up is because they had a massive empty amount of space on the disc and... only like 1/3 of the game is actually on the disc itself.
I remember this was given away for free back in the day. All you had to do was call sega in a certain amount of time...and... the rest I forgot. The customer service line was a button pushing nightmare. Long story short I never got my copy. I did love the 2nd one much more than the first. It looked amazing back then (1996). If remix is so cheap maybe I'll try to track it down.
Precisely: they were the leaders. Virtua Fighter 2, released in the arcades in November 1994, was the first fighting game with textures. Its competitor, Tekken, came out a month later. Deliberately discarding a feature *they* introduced would have made no sense, and yes, it would've been a suicide. When you're the leader in the market, you absolutely cannot "do whatever the hell you want": if you're not constantly striving to stay ahead of the competition, you won't remain the leader for long.
I don't agree that the first version of Sega Saturn's Virtua Fighter was "godawful." It had the same gameplay as Remix, and gameplay is why I loved the game.
It's not Saturn's disk reading magic, Virtua Fighter disks themselves are infused with Virtua Magic. My VF4 disk was so horribly scratched when I bought it used I was about to return it without even trying it out. So glad I decided to pop it into my PS2, since it worked. VIRTUA MIRACLE!
Well, the first time I've seen this game, it was playable at the shopping mall... I can't remember if I did like it or not, but I did wanted a Sega Saturn back then... got a N64 console instead.
I'm just replying to this cause i'm bored and hopefully i won't leave an obvious typo. The 18-25 audience would of played these games when they were younger and its nice to see how some people such as myself still enjoy the older titles today. Why review the PS3/XBOX 360 games when thousands of other sites already do that? Mark is showing theres more out there than the crap we sadly have today.
No. Think it's 1994 and Sega has the most advanced arcade fighter. Then Namco releases its own arcade fighter and people start pushing quarters into Tekken machines instead of VF2 machines. So a Sega executive says: "Guys, we gotta make a more complex fighter, but there's one feature that's gotta go. Textures." What do you think happens next? a) the guy is booted out of Sega b) the CEO of Sega says "Thank you! That's the key! Giving up a feature we introduced!" and gives the guy a big fat check
I find this " Virtua" thing sound pretty cool, it's like "Super" Nintendo used to have, it's too bad SEGA didn't really used it more, how would have been if there was "Virtua Sonic" or "Virtua SEGA"!
I actually thought the original Virtua Fighter on the Saturn was pretty good myself, seems Mark doesn't agree :) :) Virtua Fighter 2 is the business though - if you own a Saturn, you simply HAVE to get a copy of VF2
I think that the developers were Dragonball fans, also considering how Jacky has spiky blond hair like Goku in super saiyan form. Jacky also wears slippers in the first episode (like Goku in Dragonball) and boots in the second (like Goku in DBZ).
@Danny77uk He records the videogame footage separately from his commentary. I'm sure there are more than a couple of edits in there that are transparent to you.
I used to have a demo of this on the PC. It's pretty much similar to this version, including an option to have the classic models from the first arcade, or in your case 32x version.
@emeryDH that is an opinion i can agree with, im not trying to make old games look bad, but its just not fair to say that the older games are too good to compare with the new ones. hey i too have an dreamcast (it counts to the old generation for me), snes, sega master system and some other old consoles.
Dead or Alive 1 was trying SO hard to be just like this game... and succeeded. (DoA1 is awesome, go play it now) If it comes to a crunch, get VF2 and DOA; There's no point to owning VF1/VFR when you have VF2.
Now you can wish that because we have other fighter games that don't have the blocky look. But back then, not evolving would have been a suicide. What I *do* wish is that Virtua Fighter 6 came out, and it was stereoscopic.
@rickyjshiznit I was dreaming that that Space Gar might go multiplayer with a green triangle and a red triangle. Assuming edit station one can generate red on its green monochrome screen.
I know!... I'm starting to think that maybe Tao Pai Pai was based of a real life guy... and maybe Lau was based on that same person... either that or one of the creators of this game was a really huge fan of Dragon Ball, which considering that this game was made by SEGA that wouldn't surprise me at all.
@newcoleco N64 was overall, a better option. That Sega Saturn was wasted. SEGA did a great job porting the arcade games, but everyone was really pissed off not knowing what system to release their games for in terms of SEGA's different machines. Licensing became an issue as well.
@LewdCrudeTattoo ET didn't cause the crash alone you know, it was a seriously of unfortunate events and ET was just the tip of the iceburg. Back then the market was booming, it would of been virtually impossible for the market to crash for the third time. The Megadrive/Genesis didn't fail in anyway shape or form, it didn't win but it showed that Nintendo was losing its grip on market domination.
@transworld112 weird huh? but thats part of the magic in classic game room, its not the same as other companies, which in my opinion its what makes it better ;)
fun game but combos always feel stiff for me and hard to pull off and the arcade mode once i get to like round 4-5 i cant beat them no matter what they just use like 1 move that takes half my health
It seems slow somehow. One hit takes a lot of damage and the opponent stays too long on the floor. But it's nice when the character falls off the arena, it's almost like there's some physics there :)
@InecomCompany Every game you review at your under water Classic Game Room HD in your opinion seam to be great. can you make a video of all the games you think SUCK?
@kyotoair Most popular console always has the most crap on it.. Who is winning in terms of sales in this gaming generation? I was refering to the Wii..
@LewdCrudeTattoo The Playstation one had shovelware and so did the Playstation 2 yet they didn't fail, the most popular console always has the most crap on it.
"Sega Saturn, it uses magic to read the discs"
"Sega Saturn, it uses magic to read the disc. Virtua Magic!"
I remember being amazed by the "lifelike graphics" when this game came out in the arcade. Wow we've come a long way!!
the reason older discs read alot better when highly scratched up is because they had a massive empty amount of space on the disc and... only like 1/3 of the game is actually on the disc itself.
Dude i totally agree with you. The "boxy" look gave the game character. Remix made it look like every other 3d fighter.
I remember this was given away for free back in the day. All you had to do was call sega in a certain amount of time...and... the rest I forgot. Virtua Nooooooooooo!!!
Hahahahaha!! That was hilarious.. xD

Next time when I win something I'll do slowmotion "YYYYYEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHH!".
i love seeing a new CGR in my sub box
all my saturn games are scarshed when i got them but virtua fighter 2 had a crack in and it still worked.
underwater headquarters lol dude you are awesome :D
How do you maintain the spontaneity without all the obvious cuts that most youtube reviews use?
Wow this does look much better than the original one. There's actually textures.
u hav my fav intro 4 anythin ur the best
I like the name entry theme with vocals.
It's not Saturn's disk reading magic, Virtua Fighter disks themselves are infused with Virtua Magic.

@3L3CTR0static well what about ms. space gar? i think it was kinda rushed to coincide with the release of the space gar cereal, space gar o's
This is a really nice remake of the original game.
Also VF2 on Saturn is, just amazing, too bad we didn't get the chance to try a VF3 on the Sat :(

Virtua Shag! Now that would be something...
Really good, this game is awesome!
I used to have a demo of this on the PC. It's pretty much similar to this version, including an option to have the classic models from the first arcade, or in your case 32x version.

Hahaha, holy shit, "YEAAAAAAHHHH" before the intro was classy.
Music in both VF1 and VF2 was the best in the series, it's just not the same in the more recent games.
There, I just made a VIRTUA COMMENT .
Always solid.
That was Virtua Awesome.
Now you can wish that because we have other fighter games that don't have the blocky look. But back then, not evolving would have been a suicide. What I *do* wish is that Virtua Fighter 6 came out, and it was stereoscopic.
Edit Station 1 is ALIVE!!! 4:47
@Retrogamer71 your thinking of the 4th space gar sequel.
Virtua Space Gar 3d: In Space
Ahh, the memories
Mine is also very scratched and works perfectly. Good luck picking up a PAL copy for 1 dollar though. I had to pay £20 + for mine
Yeah-Jacky
best line in the game
i got this today on jpn saturn great game
looks better than the dreamcast virtua fighter :O
VIRTUA YEAhhh!!
@rickyjshiznit I was dreaming that that Space Gar might go multiplayer with a green triangle and a red triangle. Assuming edit station one can generate red on its green monochrome screen.
@madcapoperator maybe Mr. Mark purchased it some time ago, you know the prices might change.
VIRTUA OWNAGE VIDEO!
I know!... Sarah is Nina from tekken? The same apparel and same moves
"Virtua magic" hahahaha awesome
You should do review of game "GUN"!
@RawHunterX it certainly is not a buck on ebay...in ANY version or country...
lol still got my saturn for some unkown reason only a handful of games id play now love the dreamcast though
right on
Classic Game Room you need to review virtua fighter 3 for the dreamcast or virtua fighter 4 on the ps2
and review more tekken games for the ps2 & ps3
the original game had glitching errors. The polygons would fall out during the game play. I think that was the main issue.
@FCValle no nina is sarah from virtua fighter. virtua fighter was first and tekken/namco totally ripped all of it's characters.
Haha love it!
dont you laugh at me virtua hussie lol
good one
FUCKING LOVE THIS REMIX!!! I FUCKING LOVE THIS ONE!... This is a GAME!
@newcoleco N64 was overall, a better option. That Sega Saturn was wasted. SEGA did a great job porting the arcade games, but everyone was really pissed off not knowing what system to release their games for in terms of SEGA's different machines. Licensing became an issue as well.
@Kramerdower i agree sega is amazing
Don't you laugh at me Virtua Hussy! *lol*
Virtua Awesome !
I was wondering if mark and darek lived in the same
neiborhood
@LewdCrudeTattoo
ET didn't cause the crash alone you know, it was a seriously of unfortunate events and ET was just the tip of the iceburg. you should test the ability to read scarched disks...
YEEEEAAAAHH!
@transworld112 weird huh? but thats part of the magic in classic game room, its not the same as other companies, which in my opinion its what makes it better ;)
"VIRTUA IN YOUR FACE!!!!!" sounds liek duke nukem LOL.
Reminds me of fighter destiny 2 for N64.
"I'm faster than lightning!"
@RawHunterX Well, you have Sonic The Fighters, it´s like virtual sonic!
altho this is a graphical improvement over the original, i prefer the original version as its more stylish
@BenjaminBotones Yup he does look like Mercenary Tao my brother in Dragon Ball XD
@3L3CTR0static ...space gar kicks ass.
i miss my saturn...
yeeeaaah!
lau looks like general tao from dragonball.
wow what a intro pwhahahahahaha!!!! 0.08 = greatness
fun game but combos always feel stiff for me and hard to pull off and the arcade mode once i get to like round 4-5 i cant beat them no matter what they just use like 1 move that takes half my health
"Sega Saturn it uses Magic to read the discs" LOL

i kind of wish the whole vf series kept the blocky look
Virtua Fighter!!!!
did mark just end a video with min... not failing....
@Gabumon54321 That was just how I would pronounce it.
my saturn takes ages to load the bouts..... I really prefer my 32x version. Yeah its blocky and cumbersome but that's my opinion
@MarekkPL ye agree . GUN is great game make a review !
i wanna be apart of cgr undertow!!!
YEAH! ...that guy sounds like Paul Phoenix from Tekken 1 and 2 ...not the narrator, the blond guy with spiky hair
@BenjaminBotones u know what. he does look exactly like tao pai pai lol
@InecomCompany
Every game you review at your under water Classic Game Room HD in your opinion seam to be great. can you make a video of all the games you think SUCK?
@kyotoair
Most popular console always has the most crap on it.. Who is winning in terms of sales in this gaming generation? I was refering to the Wii..
i think were having two different discussions
@LewdCrudeTattoo
The Playstation one had shovelware and so did the Playstation 2 yet they didn't fail, the most popular console always has the most crap on it.
And jacky is paul oO
@3L3CTR0static idk everyone I have seen have been good reviews
Why do you think that?
