I can honestly say I could start with the first song on their first album to the last song on their last, and never skip a single one. And I do it. Over and over. Their body of work is unparalleled.
I was the same two years later, they saved my life, like you, no joke, so close several times after, hope your all good now. I am! Jesus they were a powerful band.
I see these comments really often on music videos on youtube which is a bit alarming. Sorry, but if you're so fragile that a single song can make the difference between life or death, you should be seeking professional help. Glad to hear you're still alive though. Hope you're doing better.
I love that R.E.M.'s music has held up with younger people too. They may not be the biggest retro band, but kids who know them know that they were legit, creative, and singular. Numerous times I've known college aged kids who love New Orleans Instrumental and other weird, obscure R.E.M. tracks. The whole effort not to sell out served them well.
This is their best live dvd, in my opinion. Strange currencias is also one of R.E.M's best songs, I never figured out why it never was the big hit it was supposed to be. Anyway, the band is over but I'm glad we still have some treasures like this song to remind us of them.
“Fool might be my middle name but I’d be foolish not to say.” Feel like I’m falling apart these days. I like remembering this song and this time of hope in my life.
this song is enough of a reason to live for me. i couldn't imagine never being able to listen to it or the rest of rem's discography again. so tonight and perhaps every other night i will live just for that thought. i hope they know how much their music means to so many, i know i would be dead without them, no joke.
When they played Dublin for 5 nights I went every night, was amazing! You should look up New Test Leper live in Dublin- I was at the front I swear my hairs stood up! Met them a bunch of times, super guys, my ex met Bill Berry who went for a ciggie outside 40 Watt, a very sad day when REM split! No band comes close! Find the River their best song!
MJ FAN When you say Dublin...do you actually mean Dublin?....I seen them at Slane (which is not fucking Dublin, I don't care what any cunt says, it's closer to Belfast for fuck sake!!!)...I think it was 1994 (don't quote me), but they were fucking brilliant, had Kurt Cobain's teal/turquoise fender jazzmaster (?) for "let me in" ....and I'm missing Guns 'N Roses at Slane tomorrow and I'm gutted...
They played Dublin many times. The occasion he's talking about was in 2007 when they played five nights at the Olympia while recording the Accelerate album. REM's Slane gig was in 1995.
Jim Behr yeah it was in 1995 in Slane, loved that day pity Oasis ruined their opportunity as support act by dissing Michael but he had the last laugh when he wrote The Wake Up Bomb
One of the best prolific and real bands of all time when it comes to expressing raw emotions of joy, happiness, sorrow, imperfections of life, etc. through their music. Michael Stipe is the intricate heart and soul of REM. Love them, for they are like their music, timeless.
I think so. Grew up in The Beatles/Stones era of their greatest creativity and I'm far more overwhelmed by the incredible bodies of work of both REM and Smashing Pumpkins. They're unmatched.
Saw them live in Ipswich the day after the London Underground bombings. All the flags around the stadium were at half mast and the weather was dire. They started by reading a poem about how music can bring people together..... Best gig I've been to.
What's The Frequency Kenneth, I Don't Sleep I Dream, Strange Currencies, Tongue, Bang and Blame, Let Me In.... Monster is a stone cold classic album, it's aged better than most and when I see it halfway down a list of REM's albums it remind me just how good music was back in the day. Sigh.
in the early 00s I was in high school and I used to buy NME every single week. in the back they had adverts for gigs...I always used to see adverts for REMS final two tours (around the sun and accelerate) and I never bought a ticket. One of my greatest ever regrets in life.
I have just re-discovered this song a short while ago and I’m really having an experience as if I’m hearing it for the first time over and over again ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Michael Stipe’s voice is heaven to me
My first experience of rem was sidwinder sleeps tonight. Having my first date at 15. Funny looking back, i fanced this girl for years since i was about 7 years old. She got her older brother to pick us up in his silver xr2i and drive us around playing automatic for the people. By the next week she was dating my best friend and i matured and picked up a guitar.I loved the 90s so much ❤😂 iv never seen this girl since but im glad this happened.im now 40
These words: "you will be mine". Just a beautiful song. And the violin...perfect Estas palabras: "tu serás mía". ¿Quien no ha sentido esa expresión de deseo? Hermosa canción
Well consider that most bands seem to do their best work on their first two or three albums (e.g. Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins) and then consider that this fantastic song was on their ninth(!) studio album and that they basically didn't ever make a bad one. So in terms of peak and longevity, yeah, I'd say they're the best.
Ésta banda la mayoría de las letras de sus temas tocan el alma de cada oyente, por más que se haya disuelto sus temas van a seguir escuchandose de por vida por eso fue una de las mejores bandas que escuché.
Would have loved to have been there. Monster is a phenomenal album, so underrated and Strange Currencies, Tongue and Let Me In are absolute gems. Lucky enough to see Peter Buck play in Brighton, Uk recently 👌🏻
I dedicate this song to my childhood sweetheart fool might be my middle name.... id be foolish not to hold my hands up n admit. I allowed her to fall out of my hands...... with love comes strange currencies. N this is my appeal ...... i need a 2nd chance. These words...... i hoped.... u would be mine..... sorry from the bottom of the bottom of my heart xxxx
I can honestly say I could start with the first song on their first album to the last song on their last, and never skip a single one. And I do it. Over and over. Their body of work is unparalleled.
The world needs more R.E.M
AMEN... 🙏
I say they are the best American band.
The Bear reminded me of this gem. TY
As a troubled 26 year old back in 94. This song and album saved my life. Finger was on the trigger. No joke.
David Weaver bless you man
I am so glad that this wonderful band saved your life, man! Hugs!
@@booishoois309 I did seek help, and that worked, but in that one moment, at that one time, one sentance saved me. And I will be eternally greatful.
This song is absolutely beautiful and stipe's voice is perfect
It hits you in the heart. I I will never get tired of hearing this masterpiece.
Me either, and this is a great version 👍🏻
The man can sing with the best of them. Very strong voice that will echo through the halls of time…. Forever.
World is a better place with R.E.M. in it.
Actually might be the most beautiful song I've ever heard.
Michael Stipe's voice is so beautiful I never tire of listening to him
Absolutely, have loved this band since I was a kid
TY to the Bear for reminding me of this awesome tune.
My Gen. Z nephews and nieces love these guys.
Such an underrated song! One of my favs off of Monster.
This is their best live dvd, in my opinion. Strange currencias is also one of R.E.M's best songs, I never figured out why it never was the big hit it was supposed to be. Anyway, the band is over but I'm glad we still have some treasures like this song to remind us of them.
I love the simple, heart-felt lyrics. Incredible songwriting.
"You know with love comes strange currencies"
Possibly the most astute lyric ever.
Fuck off..im tired off those who can't do aniything but saying shit about my mucik......
Kathrine Pedersen it was a compliment
“Fool might be my middle name but I’d be foolish not to say.”
Feel like I’m falling apart these days. I like remembering this song and this time of hope in my life.
I could listen to this over and over and never get sick of it.
So real. So relatable.
Are you still listening
This is what music is all about. So much emotion...I love it.
this song is enough of a reason to live for me. i couldn't imagine never being able to listen to it or the rest of rem's discography again.
so tonight and perhaps every other night i will live just for that thought. i hope they know how much their music means to so many, i know i would be dead without them, no joke.
I am so glad you are still here
Damn, what a great singer Stipe is!
So powerful and delicate at the same time, and all the times 💪❤
Legendary and amazing band The world won’t soon forget ..
No matter what else I listen to I always return to R E M
One of the best song lyrics that I have heard ❤️
Agreed. Stipe knocks it out the park with his lyrics on Monster.
I don’t know how my guys are still alive, bleeding around on stage the way they do for so long. Beautiful
Beautiful... One of the most beautiful rock ballads ever...
Stipe... My crush with eyeliner
😉
A truly magical song.
Sick..Sick stuff. The absolute genius of Mr. Michael Stipe can not be underestimated.
When they played Dublin for 5 nights I went every night, was amazing! You should look up New Test Leper live in Dublin- I was at the front I swear my hairs stood up! this song destroys find the river!

L'accompagnamento con il violino 🎻 é l'apoteosi ❤ Capolavoro
Truly wonderful. I've always loved those high dissonant, arpeggio notes at the start of the third verse.
One of the best prolific and real bands of all time when it comes to expressing raw emotions of joy, happiness, sorrow, imperfections of life, etc. through their music. Michael Stipe is the intricate heart and soul of REM. Love them, for they are like their music, timeless.
The greatest band ever !!!!!
I think so. Grew up in The Beatles/Stones era of their greatest creativity and I'm far more overwhelmed by the incredible bodies of work of both REM and Smashing Pumpkins. They're unmatched.
Gran canción, gran álbum. Gran banda. Gran voz.
Julio de 2024
thank the 4 young lads from Athens GA for putting joy in our hearts
Saw them live in Ipswich the day after the London Underground bombings. All the flags around the stadium were at half mast and the weather was dire. They started by reading a poem about how music can bring people together..... Best gig I've been to.
I was at that gig… first song they played that day was everybody hurts ❤
What's The Frequency Kenneth, I Don't Sleep I Dream, Strange Currencies, Tongue, Bang and Blame, Let Me In.... Monster is a stone cold classic album, it's aged better than most and when I see it halfway down a list of REM's albums it remind me just how good music was back in the day. Sigh.
I had a bunch of nicknames for my cat, Cleo. I used to call her Secret Love because of this song. Missing her so much these days.
Beautiful song and fantastic band. One of best ever and inspirational indeed!
Goosebumps! I miss these guys, miss talking to Michael, hopefully he’ll tour with his new solo stuff 🙏
Ótima lembrança bons momentos Rem é demais
Never can get tired of it. My God, the word needs REM...
one of my top five bands all time .
An ode to the amazing Michael Hutchence. Makes me love REM even more.

Very good R.E.M. moments,
excellent instrumental harmony!

Wonderful to finally hear the full version on here... and the best version, at that.
Now I know why - so drawn to this song.
🥺❤️happy tears. I didn’t know…
I miss ya guys thank you for making my childhood great
The beautiful violins mixed with the raw howels of passion. Truth and beauty. Lennon McCartney. Noel, Liam. Works every time.
Damn they were good
Mike excellent parolier et interprète.une voie qui me transporte.je l'adore 💝💝💝💝
he never left his crew. he kept it georgia. respect
Just discovered this music today because of "The Bear" and i'm having goosebumps while I hear it...
Each and every song a masterpiece
I love how at the last chorus Peter seems to be just watching his band, as if thinking “man, these guys are so great “.
in the early 00s I was in high school and I used to buy NME every single week. in the back they had adverts for gigs...I always used to see adverts for REMS final two tours (around the sun and accelerate) and I never bought a ticket. One of my greatest ever regrets in life.
This is a great song. Often, you understand and appreciate songs after time has passed.
Wow..I really liked this song when I was 16. Only just discovered this version with the strings....just wow...
I've never wanted to hug someone I don't know more than I've wanted to hug Michael Stipe.
aaaaahh feel you
Me too. I want a big long hug. That song is beautiful and he is too.
ONE OF THE BEST SINGERS EVER IN THIS WORLD
I feel this ❤
I have just re-discovered this song a short while ago and I’m really having an experience as if I’m hearing it for the first time over and over again ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Michael Stipe’s voice is heaven to me
My favorite version of one of my favorite songs.. "These words..... you will be mine.... all the time..."

I would say one of the best live bands ever. They nail every song every time.
Another brilliant song by this band. I recently did one of their songs as a cover. Lyrics are always so relateable.
For me R.E.M. is the best North American band.
Stipe is from another planet
Heaven!
You are crazy. I love him but he's from earth Athens Georgia
His music can take me places.
Ésta banda la mayoría de las letras de sus temas tocan el alma de cada oyente, por más que se haya disuelto sus temas van a seguir escuchandose de por vida por eso fue una de las mejores bandas que escuché.
Grazie !
one of my favorite songs.....
Best song of his album. Not the best from REM. I miss them a lot but his music will remain FOREVER!😍
REM such a great inspirational band
Strange Currecies is from the "Monster" album. I think it's their best album.
This is good old fashioned class music
Amazing Performance
Unbelievable.. when we had the genius of lyrics.. in our present time.. We have George Ezra..a genius with Blue blue sky..
Che interpretazione magistrale...chapeu
Heard this for the first time on The Bear and fell in love with it.
Need a love button....
wonderful song .....
La mejor letra de amor desesperado de R.E.M. Desquiciantemente Hermosa
n
Would have loved to have been there. Monster is a phenomenal album, so underrated and Strange Currencies, Tongue and Let Me In are absolute gems. Lucky enough to see Peter Buck play in Brighton, Uk recently 👌🏻
