    That's a great introduction! If you didn't say it's a mosque, I would've mistaken it for an ancient Chinese Buddhist temple. Splendid yet intriguing at the same time!

    Hi Nick, another brilliant piece of footage of Muslim China and its historical link to explain how the beginning of the faith in China. My hometown in Malaysia, the historical town of Malacca had the minarets for the call to prayer, Azaan, with Chinese pagoda features as its cornices. The famous Admiral Cheng Ho, who is both a Muslim and eunuch, travelled the high seas with flotilla as large as 400 ships and they indeed rule the waves. You should make a trip to his birthplace in Yunnan and also where he was buried. He was of the vintage when China was the most powerful nation in the world. Yet he at no stage wanted to subjugate and conquer land to make them China's colonies. So the current West has no fear of its expansion desire and stop feigning the evilness of China, Huawei or not.

      You are from Malacca? Great place, i went there a couple of years ago. Yeh, the Zheng He (Cheng Ho) connection with Malacca is a very interesting story. Actually one of the other mosques in Xi'an (not the one in the video) has a stele in it's courtyard stating that it was rebuilt by Zheng He during the Ming Dynasty

      A wise man from Taiwan,李勝峰 vice president of 新黨 said, the Great Wall of China is a proof , evidence, that it was built to protect China from invaders, and not to invade others! The big territory of China today was expanded by Yuan and Qing, the two non Han dynasties in Chinese history, and they became Chinese and are now among the 56 minorities of China , living in peace ever since.

    Thanks for your video. Can not agree more with you: the Great Mosque is my favorite place in Xi'An. I grew up in Xi'An, now I am in USA. The funny thing is I never visited the Great Mosque until I went back to China visiting my parents. When I was kid, I always passed it on the street at the back of the main prayer hall(that street was the main commercial street 20 years or 25 years ago) without even trying to visit once. The first time I was in the Great Mosque, I was thrilled. It is heaven after you eat 羊肉泡馍 and walked through the markets, then sat in the Great Mosque, feel the history, beauty, peacefulness. It is pure heaven.
    Thanks again.

    Hello Nick, i happened upon your blog this morning immediately after i had seen my first video about this mosque. Compared to yours, that one was more detailed, taking the viewer inside the mosque itself and showing the various parts of the monument with its inscriptions and relics etc. The man who was acting guide in that video was a devout Muslim who seemed very well rehearsed in both Chinese and Arabic. What intrigued me was that he told his guest that the mosque was first built in 651 AD, following upon a missionary first contact by Islam's 3rd Caliph Osman, while you have described the mosque as having been built in 752 AD or thereabouts. I am not a devout Muslim, just interested in history. I am sure you have seen the video, if not please do watch it. It is a beautifully detailed presentation, albeit with the zeal of a devout believer. Barring all that, will you kindly double check on the dates of the establishment of the mosque and its subsequent additions and constructions. I have already subscribed to you and will watch more of your blogs. Many thanks.

    • @nickinchina2552
      @nickinchina2552  Місяць тому

      Hi, quite a long time since i made this video so I had to do some double checking! The date i gave seems accurate to most sources i can find. 742. The Huaisheng Mosque in Guangzhou is usually considered the first in China with a date of 627...but this also seems pretty unlikely given the founding year of Islam being 610.

    It is interesting that soldiers who fought for An Lushan were mostly Han Chinese, although An himself was Sogdian. Soldiers fought against An were mostly ethnic minorities. It was Uyghurs who helped Tang reclaim Xi’an. As an award, they were tacitly allowed to loot Xi’an for three days. Uyghurs enjoyed certain privileges in Xi’an such as property ownership. Sogdians were discriminated and even persecuted after Ann’s rebellion, so they often posed themselves as Uyghurs.

    This is a wonderful tour and historical explanation of the earliest mosque in China. Very educational. It shows that the Tang dynasty Muslims are very adaptable to Chinese culture. As for the mosque itself, it is a successful blending of the Islamic requirements with traditional Chinese architecture style. But I start to wonder: how similar or different are the Muslims around 700 C.E. to the Muslims these days? May be they are a lot less orthodox, sectarian and "fundamentalist"?

    The Chinese Muslims who built this beautiful Masjid centuries ago, have been granted Glorious vision, ever lasting devotion & faith by Allah Almighty Who has created this vast universe and His other beautiful creations for guidance of all humanity to search His true path for this world and hereafter through His Messengers/Prophets i.e. third last Holy Prophet Moses/Musa, second last Holy Prophet Jesus/ Essa and last Holy Prophets Muhammad (peace be upon him). Although all human being must be shown the right path at least once in his/her life by Allah Almighty but remember he/she is free to choice right path for his/her own benefit for this world and hereafter. But also remember no other creatures of Allah Almighty goes against His any command even for a second. If you want to see then judge regular habits of other birds, animal, sun, moon, etc. They always obey the command of Allah Almighty Who is also Most Beneficent, Most Merciful & Most Powerful. ....................... Salam to all brothers & sisters............. Islamabad-Pakistan

    Take note that ancient china doesn't prosecute any Christians or Muslims but in fact they allow them to live in china since the ancient dynasty.

    Where I grew up is close to a few temples you have shown us in your videos. It’s a absolutely shame! 😓 Regarding visiting this temple, as a non-Muslim woman, should I wear hijab in order to visit? or did you see any non-Muslim women there? I am curious about the dressing code and policy in the temple.

      The vast majority of people there were Hui muslim men. I don't actually think there is a dress code, there were a couple of (i assume Han Chinese) women there who weren't wearing a hijab, so i don't think it's a requirement - but i'd say dress modestly

    Non-muslims are allowed, and even invitd to enter a mosque, anywhere in the world as long as they remove their shoes for cleanliness and respect. They must also respect the worshipers and not be loud.
