Lower total cholesterol is now known to be not such a good thing. I've been keto since 2018, and am happy that my total is in the high 300s - it's very brain-protective. Those ranges are very outdated; it is now known that high cholesterol does NOT cause heart disease. You're good!

Also.....the size of the LDL particles is important to note. The smaller particles can be more "problematic".....and also important to note is that our body MAKES cholesterol because our cells are surrounded by a lipid membrane and thats CHOLESTEROL!! Triglyceride level is MOST important because thats the lipids that are floating around in your blood stream! And, of course, whats MOST important is how you FEEL and your resolved inflamation which was causing all of those symptoms & that is caused by CARBS, espcially simple sugars & statches (which breaks down into sugar)
      Congratulations!! YOU "PASSED"!!😆

Oh Paula, yay for you!!! Well done.
Today I completed my 506th consecutive fast + keto. I've lost 59 pounds and feel great! My Neurologist put me on a ketogenic diet in 2010 after I experienced a massive brain hemorrhage and was paralyzed on the right side of my body and couldn't speak. Thankfully, those effects were very short-lived. Today, thanks to keto and fasting, I show NO evidence of the brain bleed whatsoever! Here's to miracles!
By the way, what we eat isn't what causes higher cholesterol. It is what the body makes. When we fast, it can cause our cholesterol levels to read higher. I read an article that said we shouldn't fast for 3 days prior to having bloodwork done.

I’ve been keto for 5 years. Last year when my cholesterol started getting high, I put out of my head what all the tv doctors are saying about high cholesterol being good and stopped eating so much fat and red meat. I eat mainly chicken and fish with some greens and berries and my cholesterol has gone down. My triglycerides are great and my good cholesterol is also good. My total cholesterol and bad cholesterol have come down. After 5 years I remain keto but high protein, lower fat and low carb. I just don’t like the cholesterol being so high after 5 years on this diet. I was almost 300 lbs and have maintained at 138 lbs for 3-1/2 years.

I had some doozies that had me in the ER because the pain was so bad, I was throwing up so much, and my blood pressure was through the roof! I am in perimenopause and have a lot of symptoms. We tried HRT but I had horrible reactions. I am so glad I found your channel!

I work my bottom off with my students in order to get them to their best. Also, my highest weight was 285 over 6 years ago. I lost down to 168 prior to the virus. Over the years of lockdown, I put some pounds back on with a lot of cheat days and eating way too many keto treats, like Quest peanut butter cups. I ballooned up to 239. I got back to clean keto am an now back to 196 and still working toward the 160´s.

The NMR shows the quality of the cholesterol particles…whether they are small dense atherogenic or large fluffy and buoyant. A CAC test is a good one to show if there is any calcium build up in your arteries. Also, triglyceride/HDL ratio is important to look at.

I had HORRIBLE migraines my whole adult life. They quickly went away with menopause and never returned. Estrogen dropped with menopause, resulting in NO MORE MIGRAINES. The same identical thing with my sister who had worse migraines than I did. They stopped but returned when she started taking hormone therapy for menopause symptoms. Her migraines returned immediately. So she stopped the hormones. Migraines left never to return. Estrogen seem to be our enemy.

Paula, from the research I've done dietary cholesterol has minimal impact on serum cholesterol. Your body will make the cholesterol it needs for proper function. The fact that you have more cholesterol now is good! You are feeding your body the fats it needs to be healthy. Take heart, and keep eating all that nourishing animal-based food! Also, higher cholesterol is protective as we age. Dr. David Diamond has some excellent presentations on this cholesterol topic and also has a compelling case as to why we should not use statins. You're doing everything right and your A1C is perfect! Great job! And I appreciate the vulnerability. I also want to point out all that sodium you take in your electrolytes everyday and look...your blood pressure is perfect, too! People always freak out when they see I'm ingesting 1000 mg of sodium in one glass...they don't know it's insulin resistance that causes high blood pressure in the majority (not all) cases. Keep on keeping on! *high fives*

FIrst video I've watched here, the tag line got my attention - though I find the title a bit misleading..... I lived a Ketogenic lifestyle for 3+ years. I didn't really lose weight and my LDL cholesterol tripled. Unlike some commenting here, this concerned me a lot. I was not seeing the results I had hoped and developed NASH over that time. I now do IF 18:6, eating in the morning - I've dropped 25+ pounds and my LDL has come down. My NASH issues have reversed too. I still eat more or less low carb (little or no gluten, no sugar, no dairy) I feel better now. All this to say we all need to find that which works for our bodies. I'm happy you have thrived eating ketogenic - I did not.

Thank you for being transparent in your lab results. I started a semi Keto diet and intermittent fasting in the first week of December 2022. I am a retired nurse and it is very hard for me to believe that eating fat is good for you. It's been drilled into the medical community for so many years that fat is the worst thing you can eat. Anyway, I watched several of the doctors you mentioned and the information they gave and the studies they mentioned, it all seems to make sense. I have a strong family history of heart attacks and stroke. And because I am obese, my doctor recommended a statin for me, as a preventative measure, even though my cholesterol has been good for many years. So, it's only 5mg twice weekly. I've been taking that for about 5 years and it hasn't bothered me. And at my last annual physical, last August, my doctor recommended a diabetic medication because my HgbA1c was 5.8. It has been either 5.7 or 5.8 for years. My doctor would like it lower. My fasting glucose was 107. (The highest it's ever been is 108). I told her that I would have to think about it. That's when I started to research other alternative diets to see what I could do to lower my glucose and get this weight off for good. So since I started to go semi Keto in December, I've lost 20 lbs. I am seeing my doctor back in a few weeks and will tell her what I am doing with my diet. I will also ask for the specific cholesterol blood work (ApoA1, ApoB) that are components of the LDL, that I can get to find out my risk for heart attack and stroke. Apparently I cannot use the risk factor for CVE (Cardiovascular Events) because I am 66 years old. I tried to use the calculator myself online and it said that it cannot assess risk for people over 59. And I am back to exercising (walking) and that is helping. So, if my numbers (glucose, cholesterol and ApoB) are high, then I'll stop the diet and go back to low fat. (And have some occasional fat). But I will still keep my carbs low. I bought a glucometer and my blood sugars are lower, so my HgbA1c should also be lower. We will see what happens. But I don't blame you for sticking with it, with the great results you've had with getting rid of your migraines and joint pains. Keep it up!

Hi Paula, sorry I've taken so long to get back with you. I had my follow up with my PCP (primary care physician) in April and all of my labs were great: my Hgb A1c 5.2, down from 5.7. (6.5% or higher is diabetes). My total cholesterol was 172 (under 200 normal), Triglycerides 83 ( under 150 desirable), LDL 86 (that level can be different for each person depending on their risk factors. Over 130 is definitely abnormal. HDL 71 (over 60 is desirable). And my genetic test for cardiac events, AP01&B showed that I have an average risk of having a significant cardiac risk for the next 10 years. And there is the CRP which is an inflammatory marker, and that was normal. So all good. I told my doctor what I was doing with my food and said that I was going to stick to it. She was ok with that. She wants to see me back in 6 months. At this time, I am down 35 lbs. I am eating 2 meals every day within 8 hours and no snacking after 6 pm. I feel that I've found a "lifestyle" not diet, that I can stick to for the rest of my life, finally! Thank you for listening to my rambling, and congrats to you for doing so well. You help me also, giving me inspiration. Keep up the good work! 👍🤛@@lowcarbrevelation

Well done love, you are a fab role model. I have been keto for a year and a half. Then ketovore then carnivore for 2 months. I am worried about doing my yearly blood test. I am going to book it for next week. I bet my cholesterol will be off the chart. I wonder what my doctor will say. I feel better with this life style. Osteoarthritis pain is easing in my hands. Congratulations to you from Debra in Mallorca Spain.❤

Congrats on doing what is right for you and for sharing your journey - keep it up, the rewards only get better with time! I'm super impressed about how you told your doctor what you're doing to improve your life. And that she listened! I've heard that it's more important to look at the TG/HDL ratio. Look back at your previous labs to compare that ratio, are you closer to 2.0 now? Ideally, under 2.0 puts you at a very low risk for heart attacks. Your 5.2 A1c is great, you're not diabetic!!! YIPPEE!!

Not to mention the levels used to be higher for normal cholesterol back in the 50's if I remember right it was 240 for normal. But you can search it , I was blown away

Triglycerides should be less than 100. Triglycerides to HDL ratio should be less than 1 to be optimal.

Just found your channel. I’ve lost almost 45 lbs and I’m working on losing the final 15. I’ve done keto off and on for years. Right now I’m concentrating on low carb/keto but, more importantly, no sugar or very little sugar. I read labels on everything! I’m 70 and trying to live a healthier lifestyle. I have no thyroid so I do take that but nothing else. My BP is 115/65 usually. Blood sugar and liver enzymes are all normal with my cholesterol hovering in the 170’s.

Paula, I am so very proud of you for ALL you do and for sharing your most private information! I’ve decided why I’m so connected to you-we are so much alike; however, I could be your mom but I’ve been on my health journey forever and started keto for brain health since my mom died of Alzheimer’s and I have a leaky gut! You are SO good at everything you do and I believe it’s because you follow God’s lead and your mission is helping others which you obviously are! Congrats on your labs! I learned a long time ago that Drs don’t keep up with current studies like cholesterol and “food is medicine” so I only go to those functional Drs and nurses now!
I love your cookbook and am using it all the time!! I am a personal chef, cookbook author, past restaurant owner so I know and love food!! Keep doing what you’re doing! You are so loved!!

My cardiologist said it was ok to be on the keto diet, but don’t eat too much red meat and cheese. I had to go to urgent care recently and they said my ketones were too high. I was told not good for my heart and I was to raise my carbs up to 200 TC. We are all different and need to check with our doctors as with other diets before starting.

I had to chuckle at your 1 point! That is totally ME! 😊
But, I know you work hard to stay clean on your Keto Lifestyle so understand that moment of disappointment. BUT, listen to your Dr. when she says there is NO normal range because we are ALL made up differently and genetics do play a part in cholesterol. Also, you are struggling a bit with that viral seasonal cold/allergy and that can also mess up bloodwork.
You are a sweet, caring and compassionate person and it shows with how much you open yourself up to us. That means a lot to us.
Keep being YOU and doing what you do!
    God Bless you!!
