I think Broadway needs more of this, Instead Of constantly turning movies into Broadway shows. Don’t get me wrong some of them work, but in the words of Cheetah Rivera we still need the great Broadway musical.
@@dillonohlemiller9027 This is the broadway version, so I'm assuming it's not out yet. Like all musicals, some songs get changed/added/removed for broadway, but hopefully the broadway cast recording will come out soon!
I kinda have a conflict feeling about the changes. I'm sure they made it better but still... probably bc I used to listen to the original live recording and the OG Hermes and Orpheus sound so so good but I'll probably fall in love with the show all over again from the new cast recording.
I totally get that! Hadestown is one of the few musicals where the work in progress pre broadway recording sounds so good it barely needs any changes! I can't wait for the Broadway recording though, lyric changes will either be fantastic or infuriating!
I 100% get this, when I saw the show in London the first time I missed Damon's Orpheus. But now I've fallen in love with Reeve's and Andre is incredible in the role. (though from this short clip there's been new lyric changes from it's run in London too)
I could see him getting nominated, but so far Be More Chill has gotten pretty mixed reviews from critics so I see Patrick getting a way better chance of winning

They recast Hermès 😭. I mean, I’m sad I don’t get to the cast album Orpheus, but Reeve Carney is amazing. Hermès has such an underrated voice. He was one of my faves. Hoping the new cast will do just as well. *Update* I saw it yesterday. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen. The cast was amazing and super nice. Even the audience and everyone stage dooring were probably the nicest I’ve ever seen. I don’t usually stage door anymore, but in this case I had to. And Hermès had a LOT of charisma. Great casting.
A lot of the leads in this Broadway production transferred from the London run. I was blessed to see it on my 20th birthday and my god, are they talented. Eva and Reeve brought such youth and heartbreak to their roles. But André De Shields honestly, left me speechless. His characterisation was flawless. I assure you, this artwork is in superb hands!
I love Reeve's voice. It's raw and it fits the musical so well. It's honestly beautiful and I love it. He has a perfect sound for the rock/blues tone of the musical. I can't wait for the cast recording!!
I preferred it when Hermes talked into that retro microphone in Wait for me, just gave a better vibe to the song in my opinion, hope they bring that back!
I saw this on Broadway on Tuesday without any knowledge of the show besides what it was about and it COMPLETELY blew me away. the entire cast was STUNNING
I absolutely love how eva and reeve reimagined their characters. They are so different from the original, but still amazing! I’m amazed at this new “All I’ve ever known”
I’m a little disappointed they lowered Wait For Me, but I guess not everyone has as broad of a vocal range as Damon Epic II and Epic III are my favorite songs, and I hope they still capture the delicate and beautiful falsetto Damon brought to the table with his run as Orpheus
I got to see a preview the other day and Revee definitely does his fair share of falsetto throughout the show. His voice is actually really high and his falsetto is beautiful so I hope you're not disappointed! I loved it!
I actually really enjoy the vocals we see here! It shows a determined, but fearful side despite not knowing that he actually was going to use a beautiful falsetto. Though again, internet and opinions, we both got some huge love with Damon. Glad to see this comment and be able to respond!
I’m coming back 9 months later to say that I’ve come to love both the off broadway and OBC versions of Hadestown Honestly there’s so many changes sometimes I view them as separate entities, but both are very distinctly Hadestown, and I think that’s wonderful. Sometimes I want to hear a naïve Orpheus try his best to woo his love, and other times I feel like a suave Orpheus with a bit more spunk, and I’m glad we have options. (I think one of the best songs that illustrates the difference between them is Come Home With Me, so if anyone’s curious, listen to the 2017 off-Broadway and OBC versions, they’re both splendid)
Yeah. I love Reeve Carney, but with this role... idk. I can get used to all the other voice changes but not his. Also, I don't understand the costume vibe they were going for? Damon's simple get up had this greaser vibe that worked really well. With Reeve they decided to do like, farm boy chique for some reason.
I'm stuck on Damon's Orpheus too tbh (the softeness and _ease_ with which he sings??? agressive chef kiss to that), but Hermes, while I hated his campy voice at the start, is starting to grow on me
Same, I miss Damon and I'm not a fan of the new costume designs. Though the voices are all growing on me. But Damon just has such a beautiful and unique voice. He also has a very high vocal range and it's incredible.
I love how much softer they made All I've Ever Known. It's so sweet and pure, and perfectly illustrates the tenderness & awkwardness of a first love. Plus, one of my favorite lines in the show is sung by Orpheus as part of his revised solo: "I knew you before we met/And I don't even know you yet"
I love how everyone loves Hadestown now and is talking about it, but I’ve been recommending it since practically the beginning of time and everyone’s been “ehh nah”.
My favorite number from this musical is "Wait for me". I think it's the number that best shows Orpheus' courage and love. The love and faith between Orpheus and Eurydice always moves me.
My favourite bit of the run constantly adapting is the way that in "Why do we build the wall" Persephone now stands in a black dress leading the response section of the call and response, only to be replaced by Eudridice rising to lead the workers at the end. In the production I "saw" she was almost Medea like in her resignation and near loss of status.
And the cast album is coming out when? Honestly these songs I've heard a thousand times and honestly these new lyrics I am living for them! Such a shame I never got see in London. Broadway hope you are ready!
And yet The Band's Visit won 10 Tony Awards last year! Just saw this for the third time in previews. Amazing cast and the production is great. A breath of fresh air that Broadway needed. The tweeks are finished and noticed some changes but I think this will be a hit with fans. God bless the cast and this show.
Comparing the OG wait for me with the rewritten one I like the rewritten one better due to it adds more depth & suspense as Orpheus is searching for his love stuck in the underworld

I really wish they kept Orpheus' self-harmonize effect like the one in their concept album, even as a backtrack for broadway because it really accentuates the magic that is his music.
