Speaking from experience, dirty hair grows my hair. I wash my hair once a month depending on the amount of gel I use on my hair that month I’ll wash it 2-3 times a month. I cut my hair shoulder length March 2020 & by December my hair was almost to the middle of my back. Im a person who hates combing my hair & going to the salon so it’ll always be in a ponytail or in a wash n go & not a protective style. I also read that washing your hair often is bad because it removes the natural oils your scalp produces. To each it’s own though, everyone’s hair is different and just cause something works for one doesn’t mean it’ll work for the other.
Another thing l realize when having box braids especially. If you don't take down the braids properly. All those months of not washing or moisturizing will be for nothing just saying
I lived both in the Caribbean and the UK and only heard this myth online. I didn't live the salon life so I haven't picked up what gets said there. I have always been natural. Our family's hair care was a daily hair rinse when you shower with damp hair sealed by oils/vaseline and a once a week shampoo. What mother said was stripping off too much sebum will make hair extremely dry and prone to more breakage so don't overdo the shampoo. Our hair would be shoulder length to bsl regardless of hair type. I found it could get longer by wearing updo low manipulation styles and conditioning hair once a week. My bsl hair got to tail bone length. It didn't require fancy products either. I just use simple DIY stuff because due to my allergies getting severe as I grew up. I have been unable to use shampoos, soaps and manufactured conditioners since I was 12. I worked out my alternatives. My hair would get rubbed on my shoulders, collars and bag straps. A change in styling stopped that extra breakage. I'll have the occasional day wearing hair down or even loose but plaits and twists are best at managing my hair.
As a coarse dense "type 4" gal, I'll say yes, my tresses grow well even though i don't wash my hair every 2 weeks. & I'm hella lazy with my hair. But you're correct, bc I'm not manipulating my hair = growth.
I think ppl attribute "dirt" to the build up, natural sebum, and just the fact that their not washing it. I don't think they actually mean dirt actually grows their hair, most ppl anyway. I'm sure some think dirt actually makes their hair grow. But I 100% agree with you. It's the low manipulation and having your hair in a style where they're not doing much to it, along with the natural hair growth that's allowing them to SEE hair growth
And yet I'm looking at a family member I shall not name sitting there with her month old braids who had claimed several times that not washing her hair and leaving it dirty is why it grew so fast 👀

I've been rocking twist for over 2yrs & I'd hate to have to change the style I really love but I'm struggling/constantly cutting out the knots! Does anyone have any suggestions....
Ayyye you can keep doing what your doing. Knots aren’t always a big deal if you know how to handle them and it seems like you do. For me I can’t deal which is why my go to is braids.
I used to have SSK alot with my twists until I started moisturizing the ends every other day then I put my hair in a bun to keep the ends stretched. Now I rarely have knots plus I'm retaining lenght better.
I think where some of the more old school African Americans are coming from is the natural oils as the “dirt”. The natural oils will add moisture and nutrients to the scalp which promote a healthy environment for hair growth.
I don't think wanting long hair is chasing the European standard of beauty. They don't own long hair. Women's desire for long hair is universal no matter the race.
I enjoyed this video, growing up i always heard that dirt grows our hair and dandruff so for you to make this video ,its very informative and makes alot of sense .I am a new subscriber.
Your videos are always informative that's why I leave anything just to watch them .. can you please make a how to maintain your twist/ braids for a long time including how to moisturize them and keep them clean ? Cz ur making a great job sis 😍😍😍😍
Hair will grow regardless just like you said. It's about retaining length( also like you said). I remember Naptural85 talking about the ends being the oldest part of your hair and taking care of your "elders."
As an African American I was careful not to wash my hair everyday due to my hair/scalp being dried out. This is news to me about dirty hair growing faster. I didn't know about this myth.
My hair has grown faster... wait, I'm able to retain my length through a good hair care regimen. Hair especially the scalp loves a clean environment. People forget that wash days is when your hair gets the most nutrients. I see a difference now that I'm washing my hair every week.❤
i’ve recently gotten into wigs and wash my hair maybe once a month or every two months. i started wearing wigs after i did a trim and cut my hair wayyyy too short.. and all my hair is back, matter of fact its down my shoulders now. i wash, moisturize, oil, and twist it to put it up under a wig cap. low manipulation has worked wonders.
So I just created a video on how I mix my Chebe and that I reapply every 3 weeks. I did not specify that I wash my hair before I reapply however protective styles are working for this old head. I spritz weekly with my fenugreek spritz too 😊 I see my boo Bear 🐻 ❤️
Chazz you speak the truth girl that you for bringing the knowledge. I also believe genetics play apart in how fast your hair grows. Some can achieve closer to the 1" than the 1/4" monthly.
I've been natural my entire life, never permed, and I have never heard of purposely wearing hair dirty on order to grow it. I've just worn protective styles my whole life and washed every 2 weeks depending on when my hair needs it.
@@Chazzzisawesome When did your hair turn fine, cuz you have mostly said that it is coarse ( as in thick hair strand)? I don't remember much of mentioning of density or head size.
Your makeup is ABSOLUTELY gorgeous! Growing up in Europe I actually I've never heard this but I did hear that protective style helps because your hair is PROTECTED and not manipulated, not because it is dirty!
My hair grew faster moisturizing and not washing it so much. Less manipulation is why, the longer i go without washing i retain more thickness and length that's not lost in washing. My hair loves moisture.
It’s not the dirt, it’s not the protective style that makes your hair grow from the scalp. Your hair is going to grow from your scalp at the same rate rather it’s in braids, dirty, twist out, wash in go, locs etc. now breakage at the ends is totally different from growth from the scalp. Let’s not interchange the two
I wash often but what I really want to see is the video you promised on water alone not being a moisturizer. Hope you post it soon. I’m trying to figure out what I need to do😁
If you have scalp issues you definitely need to be washing more than 2 weeks. This is one reason why so many black women are having hair loss problems.
Thanks for making this video. I agree with everything you said and you did a really good job at explaining yourself and chose ur words very wisely which I appreciate. Can you do a video next about a good hairstyle to have when on vacation and maintaining it if you plan to go in the water and sun daily?
You always leave a comment and I just wanted to tell you thank you 😹 I will definitely try but I just wear wigs or my Felicia braids, I’m not very creative when it comes to that.
I wash my hair once a month (I used to wash it every week) and I get the most compliments about how good my hair looks now🤷🏽♀️ It’s like dirt and oil actually makes my hair look better 😂😂😂
Yeah that's definitely a myth My mom use to grease my scalp/braid it... two weeks later wash my hair lol my hair use to be long when she used to hot comb it lol I was guilty of leaving my box braids and crochet braids long (3months) but that's because I wash it and oil it. My twa was a short time lol
Great video. When I was growing up, I heard people saying that dirty hair grew faster. Another myth was that dandruff helped to grow your hair. I didn’t believe either. By the way. why are you and some others referring to yourselves as b*****s? I’m old school and always found that word to be offensive when referring to a woman. Is this a millenial thing?
It’s not a millennial thing, it’s a personality thing. I know a lot of older...even “classy” women/men.. use the word b*tch. It’s dependent on your personality and intention. It’s almost (not really though but almost in the same Context but definitely not the same weight class) like the “n” word, there are many different opinions on it. It just depends on who you are talking to and if they are uncomfortable with the usage.
YES!!! I'm a 46year old Jamaican not African American and never knew this was a thing. My hair was relaxed combed daily and my hair grew faster when it was dirty. I was a lazzzzy relaxed person.

Better question does your dirty hair stink ? Answer : yes Like I don’t understand why people don’t understand that hair needs to be clean so it can grow without the build up . Not only are you emitting bad smells you’re lessening the chances of your hair growing I still feel like you should wash your hair & keep it healthy & up on them trims . I see too many girls just wearing braids weaves & wigs not moisturizing not washing nor trimming or letting their hair breathe & it drives me nuts every time !
I have always believe that the less you bother your hair the more length you'll have, l learn that from grandmother, this is the first time coming to your channel,l will be coming back,, thank you for your knowledge
I've never heard this one. But check out the women of Chad and Chebe powder... low manipulation, protective style and they don't put the concoction on their scalp...they don't wash their hair too often.
I legit washed my box braids today... I've had them for 3 weeks. I do have braids coming out around my edges, but I can get em put back in. I will put tea tree oil in my hair and then keep it movin
Hey I enjoyed this video 😊 I was wondering could you do a video on Genetics and hair growth? 👀 I wanted to know if the genes you have, a factor that prevents you from getting the length you want🤔 My mom had short hair all her life and my dad a big afro back when he was young.

If this isn't me!!!!
Likeee rn I'm rocking my afro with the knots in them..it's been almost 3 weeks. Lol
I have phobia for my hair rn I can't even imagine combing it...
I know I'll loose so much hair when i finally get a friend to comb it for me.
*crying*.
@@tianahrombo2363 I get out all shed hair and finger detangling with a moisturizer and oil daily, them twist it before going to bed (I work at night ), then at night before work I take out the twists and pick it into my afro. Which means , detangled hair every day . Try it. Don't let your afro tangle up and never sleep with it just bein out, our curls curl in on itself !!!! :) rake fingers through gently and get out all knots from that day before twisting before bed. ;) problem solved.... Just a tip.
@@tianahrombo2363 you are causing unnesscary breakage by leaving in knots !!!! And when you comb it it's gonna be way too much unnescary raking because you are trying to take out old 3 week shredded hair you didn't get out
Wow! Your videos are ALWAYS Soooo beneficial to me... I 🖤 your realism about being a lazy natural "I can definitely relate!" I'm a 2 strand twist girl & I use to keep them in for 2 to 3 wks but now I'm barely making it to the second week... The thing that stood out to me from this video is when you gave the description of your hair & ("How the 2 strand twists tend to cause single strand knots!") I've been rocking twist for over 2yrs & I'd hate to have to change the style I really love but I'm struggling/constantly cutting out the knots! Does anyone have any suggestions....
Ayyye you can keep doing what your doing. Knots aren’t always a big deal if you know how to handle them and it seems like you do. For me I can’t deal which is why my go to is braids.
You can clip them. Just at the not it want hurt.😊
I used to have SSK alot with my twists until I started moisturizing the ends every other day then I put my hair in a bun to keep the ends stretched. Now I rarely have knots plus I'm retaining lenght better.
This video needs to go viral😂😂 cos...this whole myth needs to die.
Right!!! 😹
her eyes are so pretty
I think where some of the more old school African Americans are coming from is the natural oils as the “dirt”. The natural oils will add moisture and nutrients to the scalp which promote a healthy environment for hair growth.
Thank you for clarifying this cause I'm sure this will help a ton of people.
😹😹😹
I don't think wanting long hair is chasing the European standard of beauty. They don't own long hair. Women's desire for long hair is universal no matter the race.
I haven't washed my hair for 2 weeks and it looks longer to me idk it feels like it works
I enjoyed this video, growing up i always heard that dirt grows our hair and dandruff so for you to make this video ,its very informative and makes alot of sense .I am a new subscriber.
Every time I wore a quick weave for 3 months I always had new growth under my cap. Plants and flowers grow from dirt so may be out hair does the same.
Your videos are always informative that's why I leave anything just to watch them .. can you please make a how to maintain your twist/ braids for a long time including how to moisturize them and keep them clean ? Cz ur making a great job sis 😍😍😍😍
Aww thank you and I will definitely try?!
Hair will grow regardless just like you said. It's about retaining length( also like you said). I remember Naptural85 talking about the ends being the oldest part of your hair and taking care of your "elders."
It depends... all hair and scalp ain't the same... my hair thrives dirty!
plants grow in dirt. I can go for up to 4 months(keeping it moisturized because it's soo dry) and my hair is thriving and growing.
As an African American I was careful not to wash my hair everyday due to my hair/scalp being dried out. This is news to me about dirty hair growing faster. I didn't know about this myth.
YES!!!!
Where you been living...under a rock😂
@@idoyes1400 Apparently
Dirty hair and dirty skin is not a win lol. Wash that ish 🤣
😂🤣🤣
I was told that not washing your hair often helps growth cause you’re not stripping your natural oils.
Maybe not as often as twice or once a week but you run the risk of your scalp becoming inflamed from build up.
I've never heard or been told dirt makes our hair grow . That is disgusting . I just recently started hearing this nonsense lol .
😹😹😹
I've heard about it for a long time. They used to tell me that as a child. 😅😭
@@reneeproud5273 oh wow 😭
That Bear though! LOL!! I just recently heard this past summer that unwashed hair grows faster.
So I just created a video on how I mix my Chebe and that I reapply every 3 weeks. I did not specify that I wash my hair before I reapply however protective styles are working for this old head. I spritz weekly with my fenugreek spritz too 😊
I see my boo Bear 🐻 ❤️
❤️❤️❤️
This is a great video, I love and appreciate how you explained this so well, Thank You
Hi Chazzzisawesome! Good information ma'am. Thanks for sharing! Good to see Bear as always!
Aww thanks Ms. Marlene same to you!!!
Thanks for making this video!! Also what’s the name of your lipstick?? it looks so good ❤️❤️
It’s a random brown nyx liner with a pink lip gloss.
Chazz you speak the truth girl that you for bringing the knowledge. I also believe genetics play apart in how fast your hair grows. Some can achieve closer to the 1" than the 1/4" monthly.
Omg yass girl let's get you to 100k 🔥🔥 your personality is so bomb
I've been natural my entire life, never permed, and I have never heard of purposely wearing hair dirty on order to grow it. I've just worn protective styles my whole life and washed every 2 weeks depending on when my hair needs it.
You are so close to 100k I’m so proud!
Aww thank you so much I’m trying!!!
Me tooooo🤪 I have fine strands with a big head🤩🤩🤩
Twinsss!!! 😹😹😹
I’m trying to figure out what I need to do😁
I’m always so worried about video quality I always skip certain videos. I will definitely try 😅
Your video quality is alway on point!
If you break the ends off of your hair before it even grows when it does grow back it will just look the same.
I think I see where your going so yea!!
you have to wash your hair every two weeks and leave hair in a natural style thats up and out the way and lasts for 1 - 2 weeks
Yups!
You’re spitting 💯 facts in my opinion!! Keep the knowledge coming sis!!!
I wash my hair once a month (I used to wash it every week) and I get the most compliments about how good my hair looks now🤷🏽♀️ It’s like dirt and oil actually makes my hair look better 😂😂😂
I loved the "dirt tingle dance"... Thank you for the researched info 💜🤗
No problem!
Yeah that's definitely a myth
My mom use to grease my scalp/braid it... two weeks later wash my hair lol my hair use to be long when she used to hot comb it lol
I was guilty of leaving my box braids and crochet braids long (3months) but that's because I wash it and oil it. My twa was a short time lol
🔥🔥🔥
What so ever you look beautiful even without make up, nails, jewelry, and hair done you look gorgeous no matter what!
It’s almost (not really though but almost in the same
Context but definitely not the same weight class) like the “n” word, there are many different opinions on it. It just depends on who you are talking to and if they are uncomfortable with the usage.
I washed my hair twice a week when I was a loose natural. Now I'm loc'd it's the same and I sprit daily too.
YES!!! I'm a 46year old Jamaican not African American and never knew this was a thing. My hair was relaxed combed daily and my hair grew faster when it was dirty. I was a lazzzzy relaxed person.
😹😹😹 someone from the Caribbean just said they have that saying as well back home.
How about 6 months👀 yep just a leave in conditioner and water. Maybe some old fashion hair grease & water. It working.
And I had no edges.. now I do😳
A month 😳 of not washing the hair I wish I would🤨 lol no no and more no I wash my hair at least every once a week 2 two weeks without fail back in the day I used to not wash my hair and my hair was SHIT and short, dry and never grew past my ears my hair was bad at that time I feel with a heathy regiment I learned over the 7 years of my hair process I learned a long time ago no matter what state a persons hair is in hair don’t grow no faster it’s just how well the person takes care of it I love ur channel 🥰 ur amazes balls
Exactly!!!
Better question does your dirty hair stink ?
Answer : yes
Like I don’t understand why people don’t understand that hair needs to be clean so it can grow without the build up .
I wash my hair 1-3 times a month & it grows tremendously I just remember to make sure I moisturize & trim frequently
Yea most definitely you should wash your hair !
Chazzzisawesome period 👏 I see way more problems with not washing it frequently than washing it frequently
I just love her with these stuffed animals! I get tickled every time
Can you do a video on you wash day routine after you taken out your twists
I will definitely try!!!
@@Chazzzisawesome thanks 😊
No its the dirt!!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣 sis that's funny, you look very beautiful with your glowing makeup.
I have always believe that the less you bother your hair the more length you'll have, l learn that from grandmother, this is the first time coming to your channel,l will be coming back,, thank you for your knowledge
Stop messing with bear😂😂😂
Moisturized hair breaks less. Low manipulated hair breaks less. Periodt
Thank you for another great video! Your skin is amazing! Would love a skincare routine!
Ok I will definitely try!!!
I think the minimal manipulation is what causes hair to grow.
Notification = i click ❤❤❤❤ my hair only grow 1/4 inch a month.
Same
Marvelous Melanin me too ❤️
SAME!!!
Same here too
Same!! And I struggle with breakage! 😩 I’m lucky if I retain 3 inches a year 😢
I've never heard this one. But check out the women of Chad and Chebe powder... low manipulation, protective style and they don't put the concoction on their scalp...they don't wash their hair too often.
Hi Bear.....Good Afternoon peoplez😁 Also I am afraid of going to get my hair trimmed. Can you do a video on that💇
I can try 😹😹😹
Genetics, Diet, stress are factors
I legit washed my box braids today... I've had them for 3 weeks. I do have braids coming out around my edges, but I can get em put back in. I will put tea tree oil in my hair and then keep it movin
Hey I enjoyed this video 😊 I was wondering could you do a video on Genetics and hair growth? 👀 I wanted to know if the genes you have, a factor that prevents you from getting the length you want🤔 My mom had short hair all her life and my dad a big afro back when he was young.
YOU'RE SOOO... PRETTY!!! 🥰❤🙂
