    I love this, spot on - We thank God for this information. Very informative and this is not a show as so many are, but just really good advise with a down to earth speaker. We have to find what works for us, learn your hair. I have fine 4c hair and have noticed that my hair is thriving not being washed for two months. When I took out the cornrows it was thicker so I put them back in. Still not washed lol. Too many products on the market, no wonder some of us are confused what we should and should not use. Not washing works for me but may not for someone else. I guess the biggest restorer was prayer and listening to God's voice which led me here as I was researching. God bless you Sis.

    I shampoo every month. The new growth I receive from shampooing every month is how I’ve always grown my hair, even now my flat twists have so much new growth and it has been a month! My hair never smells and the only time I see my hair really dirty is when I have dry scalp, dandruff, or itchy spots which I never have anymore thanks to grease 😁Now if Im going for 2 months I use a co wash on my scalp. I definitely think more people can get away with it than they think 🙌🏽

      I definitely get away with it especially when protective styling. Grease is a great protectant for the scalp and hair

    Very interesting! Glad you covered the topic. I have fine, course, high porosity 4c hair, and I used to wash my hair every week. I grew my hair the longest it had gotten, but it was A LOT of work and time. Then I had my second child, and I literally could not spend the time I used to to invest in my hair. Thus, my hair suffered and I could no longer retain length. About 8 months ago, I got serious again about taking care of my hair because I missed my length. So I started stretching out my wash days, going from weekly, to every 2 weeks, then 3 weeks, and currently I’m washing my hair once a month. I primarily did it for the sake of my time. I’m currently pregnant with my third child. It’s just not possible to justifiably spend as much time as my hair needs to retain length, while raising children, and feel like a good mom!! 😅 But I found that washing monthly is doing great for my hair!! Too bad I didn’t discover it sooner. The time I’ve gotten back! But believe me, when wash day comes, it’s a serious day and I literally plan everything around it. I figure mama gets at least one full day out of the month to take care of her glory!! 🌸 Thanks again! I’m enjoying your content and style.

      Less is more for sure… I can totally relate to motherhood and trying to care for hair, it’s just not feasible! I wash every 1-2 months and do everything in mini twists so it all happens in an hr and my retwisting happens over a few days. This really works for me and I have ZERO pressure on or after wash day.

    Washing your hair depends on what you’re washing it with, hair type, your dryness, and what you do with your hair after washing. My hair thrived/grew faster after my big chop with weekly washing. I got away from that and just protective styled and did once a month. My hair was sooo dry and breaking off. Even with moisturizing. Then I remembered when I weekly washed how it grew faster. I wash weekly, 1 good wash only with mild moisturizing shampoo dc with Ayurveda powder or herbs gloss (new in my regimen) my hair loves it. Google herbs for hair growth-too many to type. I protective style spray moisturize 3xs a week and scalp massage. Heating up my dc before applying is so good for my low porosity hair. I think the weekly dc is really what my hair loves more so than shampooing. I tried the cowashing thing and it made my scalp itch. If washing your hair drys out your hair it is probably due to the shampoo. Yes sebum is also very good essential to growth I used to go 3 months in twists and my hair grew so much but it broke off for dryness and rough detangling. So growth/ hair length all depends on a sensible balance. As you said do what works for you.

    Indigenous Strandz has knee length hair. Her hair is gorgeous. I also wash my hair every two weeks. My scalp and hair smells fresh whether I sweat or not within the period. My strands are fine so a weekly wash day would be too much manipulation. I use a leave in, cream and seal with olive oil whether I am doing a wash and go or twists and my hair lasts two weeks without remoisturizing. I think my hair is medium porosity. I also drink a gallon of water per day and eat fruits and vegetables daily. I trim my hair every four to six months. I transitioned from relaxers for nine months before big chopping March 2019. My hair grows 4 inches per year on average and it is now a little below arm pit length which means I retain length quite well even with the trims. We need to do what works for our hair.

    Thank you for making this video! I have been really thinking that weekly washing is too much for me lately. I was a monthly washer for years when I was relaxed and my hair grew so fast and it was thick! Once I went natural and found natural hair forums I began washing weekly. My hair is on the finer side and I think it's just way too much. The only reason I didn't extend it sooner is because years ago I developed very flaky and itchy scalp. I could barely make it a week and nothing worked. Well recently I tried As I Am Dry and Itchy Scalp shampoo and after one use my scalp has never been this clear and itch free in YEARS! The best thing is I brushed my hair and had only four strands of hair come out. This never happens! For years I just thought I was a heavy shedder but now I see the scalp condition was causing excess shedding.
    Anyway I said all of that to say now that I've gotten the scalp issue under control I'm seeing how far this shampoo will allow me to go. I'd be happy with every 2 weeks but ideally I'd like 3-4 weeks. I posted about the shampoo because maybe it will help someone else in the same situation to be able to stretch washes. They also make a cowash, hair oil, conditioner, and leave in in the same dry and itchy line. I just bought the oil today.

      Am so happy you are listening to your hair more and finding g solutions to what your hair likes. I see the shampoo you have mentioned has tea tree and peppermint to heals control bacteria and dandruff formation plus cocamidopropyl betaine to really cleanse the hair. This will be a winner for your scalp. I use a DIY mix of the same essential oils and more and can go for months with no itch or dandruff. Am sure your experience will help someone here. See my no itch video here if you would like more detail 😊 ua-cam.com/video/ngxZAIK-Vuk/v-deo.html

    I say, Listen to your hair! Instead of having a strict washing schedule that might be doing more harm than good.
    If my head is itchy, I'll co-wash first. If itchyness persists, a gentle shampoo next time I wash. If hair feels sticky from product buildup, a gentle clarifying shampoo the time after that. I might "wash" every 3 days, it might be every 5. All depends on how my hair is doing that day when I hop in the shower. :)

    • @CoilyDiaries
      @CoilyDiaries  3 роки тому

      That’s a great strategy and am glad you can do that. I think routine is also good to keep you accountable and avoid neglect because honestly many of us don’t pay attention to the hair as much as we should. So if if someone is good at routine and they find what worked for their, they can stick with it and if not play by ear 👂

    Thank you for the info and perspective!!! I love that you've done the research already:-) I had to start increasing the time between wash day. I still "cleanse" my scalp with witch hazel or apple cider vinegar cause I'm one of those people that my scalp gets itchy if I don't. But doing a full shampoo weekly or biweekly causes too much damage. Please keep doing what you do!!!

    You really don't need a dermatologist to justify your hair regimen. If you don't want to wash your hair weekly, don't. Many people only bath once a week. Hygiene is personal. But the reality is, many black women think they can wear a weave/extensions for months without washing their scalp. We are obsessed with long hair like white women are obsessed with loosing weight. We do crazy things to get long hair.

    • @CoilyDiaries
      @CoilyDiaries  3 роки тому +5

      I think because we all have to learn and discover or hair and it’s needs, it’s important to be aware of what a professional has to say as they know more than me. From there, we are more equipped to choose and personalise our routines. I think the obsession with long hair is a reflection of the excitement we feel now that we know we can do it after years of being told otherwise.
