The fines, in some cases are to low! Not so much for the working stiff, who is also a boob who feels they can park in a handicap spot, but just think about the wealthy obnoxious fool, who could care less they might have to pay, what to them is pocket change! I feel, as a placard holding handicapped drive, there should be a surcharge, of say 5% of the value of the car that could cost six figures, that's driven/owned by some wealthy person that a $ 500 fine is nothing but dine out money!!!! Maybe if they were to get a $5,000 fine, for parking their $100,000 Mercedes in a handicap spot, that might get them to think twice about it. I'm a. Dry conservative guy, but the fine system in place favors the wealthy! But can greatly penalize the working stiff, where a $500 fine, means a great deal!!!! But to someone who could spend that amount on a bottle of wine??
My husband is handicapped, we were looking for a spot the other day, when we saw a young girl (early 20's) pull into a spot & get out of the car yapping on the phone. She looked perfectly healthy to me. We yelled at her & she just looked & kept walking. We'll just drive around the parking lot aimlessly till a spot opens up.
Terri just because somebody is in their 20's doesn't mean they are not disabled. I'm 26 and disabled. . Just because somebody is young and looks healthy doesn't mean they are healthy. It's disgusting to get judged by people like you who have no idea what the fuck is going on in that persons life. Some States the fines start at $ 50.00 and go to $ 1,000.00 which great plus they will have your vehicle towed right away from the Handicap space and before you can get it back you will have to go to traffic court, so then you get court cost, a parking ticket, inpound fees plus a Towing bill and you have to show that you have a release form from traffic court inorder for your vehicle to be released
When I see someone stealing a handicapped spot, I take the weights off their tires so if they can have a rough and wobbly ride home, then pay to have the tires rebalanced. 🤣🤣🤣
Just so people know, I will honestly call the police and a tow truck if you don't have a Handicap tag or place card hanging from your rear view mirror, because I am a Retired United States Army Veteran / Disabled, and it's not fair to anyone of us that needs the space marked HANDICAP
