If it's only a minute then it's only a minute to walk a few extra feet. Also agree on enforcement rather than new legislation.
Need to increase fine to 5000.00
Agreed, higher fines, lockouts and towing. Bigger fines for companies, especially delivery companies (and the drivers), that think they can take advantage of the spots.
Take pictures of the license plate, time index and location. Bring in the pictures to your bylaw parking officers. Well documented infractions are usually followed through.
@Kissing Bandit I have one... you should stop parking in handicap zones.
This seriously annoys me as well. I have the handicapped placard for my vehicle and lots of times there are vehicles parked there and I have to be dropped off at the door while my husband goes to find a parking spot way out at the outer edges of the parking lot or if I am driving I end up not being able to go into the store because I can't park close enough in order to get to the door safely. I firmly believe the fine for illegal parkers in handicapped spots should be raised to a minimum of $1000 fine to deter them from parking there.
@Kissing Bandit Can't forget to put it up since it's always hanging on the mirror in our truck. Nice try though :)
@Kissing Bandit Hey Mark you're completely delusional and if you honestly believe you're going to raise $500 million dollars for a site that will replace all social media platforms you are the one who is off their meds. Most of your post makes no sense and for you, a complete stranger on the internet to think words like what you posted above will insult me that just shows how irrelevant you really are. Bye Felicia.
I live in Lethbridge and it is the same situation for me. I have a handicapped parking placard but have issues finding handicapped parking and have to resort to using a regular stall and risking damaging the neighboring vehicle while retrieving my walker.
I sympathize with you and am sorry you have to endure this nonsense. These scumbags need to be shamed. Please contact me with scumbag offenders' license plate state & number, + description of the vehicle and driver. I will keep you anonymous, but call them out on my show. Thank you, John E. V.
Parking lot owners need to make sure handicap parking is clearly marked. Sometimes its an accident.
0:37
That paint would be barely visible at night or heavy rain.
0:48
It looks like they mistook the lines that should have been completely removed for a parking spot.
All handicapped parking spots in Canada that I have ever seen also have very clear signs posted above them. The same goes for the mothers with babies or pregnant women parking spots. All of them have highly visible signs. There is no excuse for taking those spots if you aren't entitled to them.
Driver don't make mistakes. This is intention.
Selfish Generation Y drivers.
I m a Gen X I seen the transition from the old days. Rules are respected not entitled.
Drivers can't share the road to Merging on to Highway.
generation Y the Me me me First entitled attitude. Brake check Is a rare thing in the old days.
This applies to Toronto as well not just Vancouver.
@@raymond289 I agree 110% the road rage, the brake checking and just the outright ignorance and self entitlement of the gen Y drivers keeps reminding me of why I believe there should be special camps in the Yukon for them to all reside. I sit here in my house watching the new drivers literally play smash up derby with the vehicles in front and behind them because they feel those vehicles are parked too close to them for them to exit their parking spots. I'm waiting for the day they try that with my pickup truck and they will discover not all drivers will just allow them to damage whatever vehicles they want for no reason. It will be Dodge Ram FTW day!
Especially when the driver or any of the passengers AREN'T DISABLED!
In Cali it has to be posted on a pole in front of the spot and marked on the ground.
I don't drive but I do take the bus and I hate it when able body people sit in the disabled seats while I have to stand for over 30 minutes on one leg on a moving bus.
Forget the fine; tow the car

Parking Mobility: the #1 app to report disabled parking abuse! Report disabled parking abuse to your city in less than two minutes. When you see a vehicle parked illegally, simply launch Parking Mobility, take 3 photos and submit.
Try to find disabled parking in Windsor, Ontario. Almost impossible. So many fraudulent users and fraudulent permits.
When I was a kid my father would park all the way in the back of the parking lot away from everyone and I always wondered why he did this, now that I'm older I do it myself. It's to avoid getting stuck in traffic. If people can't walk 5 minutes to a store, they got problems
Ya but theres always some douche that will deliberately park right beside you in the empty part of the parking lot.
I always park at the back of the lots. I'd rather park where no one else is and enjoy a bit of a walk.
I have my handicap and so many times people taking handicap when they dont have one. I hope Vancouver gives out more tickets or tow the cars. We pay for our handicap parking. We need help to stop this

$100 was a joke. In Ontario it's been $300 forever and that's not enough. Should be $1000.
Man is th is a problem in the US... Classically, it's usually always a guy parked in a marked handicap parking spot that is compensating with a big jacked up 4 wheel drive pickup. Because heaven forbid he might have to walk a little bit and people wont see his jacked up 4 wheel drive if its parked further back from the storefront...

@@youfa7619 hell yeah! I'll be sure to pass them on. 😀
Cheaper for delivery companies to pay a parking fine than to have to drive around the block a bunch of times and park far away and not be on time. the actual driver should be fined, not the vehicle owner.
I agree, police has to be very strict on these parking violation.... Maybe the offenders' fine should include revocation of driver's liscence... or... for the driver to be tied locked to a wheel chair for a month... I bet they wouldn't park in reserved spaces ever again!
Agreed!!!
I've been calling people out for doing this for a long time. Most people comply and move when asked. Otherwise I call the bylaw enforcement directly.
@Kissing Bandit Interesting comment. I can give you some strategies to help you cope with the times you forget to use your permit.
I love it!!! I did it publicly on my show (episode 39)
This is a major issue in Vernon BC. At the McDonald's restaurant EVERYONE parks in the handicap parking waiting for their food to be brought out to them. I've complained about this for over 3 years and no one does anything about it.
NO ONE CARES

The fine varies from City to City in the US to be anywhere from 100 to 500 but like I said it depends on the city you are in and the state
Correct, but not good enough.
I agree with this. My issue is also when snow season hits. In Northern California where it snows in the Sierras, the plows dump large piles of snow in front of freshly cleared vehicles with handicapped plates. This will take all day for someone to remove that snow and a handicapped person could be late for or have to cancel a medical appointment. On many ocassions, I would dig out our car to get my husband to dialysis. The only thing I could do was skip breakfast and guard our car until it was time to leave. What do you people do in this case?
Increasing the fine from $100 (or less) to $400 won't do a thing. The solution needs to be more than a monetary fine. Here are some ideas.
1. Immediately impound the violator's vehicle for 30 days.
2. Require the violator to appear before a judge. No paying of a fine in the mail. They need to get read the riot act (so to speak) by a judge.
3. Perhaps even make this sort of violation into a minor criminal offense, where there's a jail sentence. Or perhaps a significant period of community service.
The idea here is to make violating handicapped parking laws really hurt the offender, since it's clear that fines don't get the job done.
I call these dirt bags out on my channel. (episode 39)
Bigger fine and jail time will make people think twice .
Yep
Do a vehicle forfeiture for 30 days and $500 fine for first offense, and watch how quick it stops.
Yes! Love it.
Change it from $100 to $1000 and people will REALLY think twice about doing it and figuring they won't get caught.
I saw quite a bit of this at the local market. Who cares about the car itself when it's you who's taking advantage of the system?!
$1,000 minimum. Zero tolerance for those disrespectful a-holes.
Absolutely! I call these people out on y channel. (episode 39)
$400 for the 1st offense, then keep doubling it every time that same person does it! $400, $800, $1600 and so on, they would soon get the message
Yes! Love it.
I saw a UPS driver park across 4 handicap spaces and took a picture of it. called the police and of course they said their usual. NOTHING WE CAN DO ABOUT IT!!! Then I sent it out on facebook and the UPS company said they would talk to him but damn if another driver did the same thin the next month. I eat at a place across the street to see these things.
Over and Over, Delivery Vehicles pull in and the Drivers don't see the Disabled Parking Logos! All they see is the Diagonal Lines on the Road saying No Parking, and figure that's the Loading Zone for Them!
In Ottawa the fine is closer to $600.00.
How about a new story on this or even do a clip every month as a reminder to the public. Great video, we need more. Thank you
in Quebec even with a plaquart correctly hung you still get ticketed 500$ for supposedly improper posting of said valid and 100% legal handicap card.
The one parking infraction I love handing out.
The one parked between the two cars would return to his car to find 4 slashed tires.
Hahahahaha. We think the same.
I usually park in the spot that's both handicap and a regular parking spot one side blue one side white
If you park illegally in a handicapped spot, I truly hate you. Anyone who agrees with me should watch youfa episode 39. I love that guy. Coarse language, but he tells the truth about this poblem.
Flatten ALL 4 tires
and the spare too
SEND A MESSAGE…..
jack the fine up to $2000 and tow their car.
I am disabled and am so so tired of people illegally parking when they are not disabled most of them say they only park for a minute! I don't think just raising ticket amount is all that can be done I think more policing is needed.

Not just a fine. Tow the vehicle
Skip the Dishes Drivers are doing this constantly.
I say make them handicapped on the spot so they have a reason to park. I usually flatten a tire or two.
Sadly they are not doing enough to enforce this law here in Alberta. I'm in Edmonton and I see this all the time. A few weeks ago some lady at a Walmart here gave the finger to a woman who actually needed that handicap spot. Told her F off! 🙁🙁
PROUD TO BE CANADIAN! It's happened for years in Ontario, too.
I’d be in jail if someone did that to my mom or something holy
I'm in Ontario and had one of my neighbours pounding on my door, cursing and swearing at me because I told her son that it was a $350 fine for parking in the disabled spot, which I require, without a permit. People are so horrible sometimes.

In part, this issue is because most city agencies do not do their job enforcing the laws protecting the disabled, no priority is assigned to correct or enforce the law. Large fines, towing, these actions can make money to pay for enforcement. If tickets were made payable when people get their car sticker, people would have no choice but to pay or no sticker, and another ticket and fine. It can be a real legitimate moneymaker for a city and protect the innocent.

I have a question isn't the spots that are white and and blue like both considered handicap or not
Special enforcement officers just for handicap violation tickets that's what is needed
Yes absolutely or maybe photo ticketing feature so we can prove they have no placard! I’m a wheelchair user and parking enforcement takes 40mins plus and most people leave before then so they don’t ever get caught.
Yep
They need tickets and towed
Increase the fine to $400.00 first offence, $700.00 second offence within a year, and tow the vehicle and impound minimum 7 days. If this doesn't stop them, nothing will.
Or how about an automatic tow with the first offense, there problem solved
I don't disagree. I have 3 disabled clients I drive to.and from appointments and shopping. The primary being my brother.
However increasing the fines won't solve the problem. It has been proven that people would still use the stall even if you increased the fines...
You want to make an impact... give them community service of driving around disabled individuals for 100 hours.
Seriously money won't solve the problem. Making sit with people they are infringing upon is more likely to create real change
Also on private property you will find many cities only suggest they have disabled parking it is often times not a city bylaw. So double check your local laws.
I like the community service Idea a lot. Free taxi drivers for diable people Trust me we need it. Taking the bus is so hard.
Thanks but I would rather not sit in a car with people who have already proven themselves to be ableist.
@@MsMorganThorne I understand but it's not forced on you it's just an option you can take if need be. I am unable to find a job because of my disability and it's hard for me to travel. If people could carry they wouldn’t do it
Good point.
I'm 73 and I have my physical limitations. It's a gradient. I park as far away as I can. Exercise is good ... when you can.
Leave the in close spots to park for those that need it. Oh, but that's Socialism. Your God Dam Right ... Care about your fellow humans
A bunch of slashed tires and keyed paint jobs would take care of this problem in a hurry
Are you my twin? Hahaha
Lots of people couldn't care less. It's that simple.
And also the biggest problem
FINES ARE NOT ENOUGH!!! Until people who do NOT CARE actually FEEL THE BURN from their wrong doing, they will NOT stop! People have money & those with enough of it, will never care! 4 or more points on their Driver's license may help! Multiple offenses should result in suspended Driver's licenses! THAT will only help! More DRASTIC punishments are needed to get people to stop & only some at that! The real problem is getting people TO ACTUALLY CARE about others! Many people with legal placards or handicap license plates, like I have, park however they wish! ANYONE who is allowed to have these placards or handicap license plates NEED to be educated about how to park properly & what those "HASH MARK AREAS" ARE REALLY FOR! Not for parking, store scooters, shopping carts, or ANYTHING OTHER than WHEELCHAIR ACCESS! They ALSO NEED to enforce the "VAN ACCESSIBLE" spaces for VANS ONLY! Too many people WITHOUT wheelchair vans take those spaces! They are SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED for "WHEELCHAIR VANS" allowing plenty of space for our wheelchair ramps & lifts! Again, our 1st goal is to get people TO ACTUALLY CARE! Thank You to those who help enforce ACCESSIBLE PARKING! We greatly appreciate your efforts as you are the DEFENDERS OF OUR FREEDOM, allowing US to come & go as WE PLEASE, just like regular people get to do!!!

Now anybody can get a placard though
In BC you need a note from your doctor & specifics on how long you'll need it.
Not all handicapped people need to park in a handicap spot. I am a good example of that. I'm deaf so i have to have a handicap tag but i do not park in them. There is nothing wrong with my legs. They are meant for the ones who truly need them
You are one of the few good ones
God bless you.
Tickets are not the answer to many parents have to make there kids go hungry to pay for the fine usually a note or better marked spot would be better if you want America police need to stop ticketing all the time I feel like some police really enjoy seeing kids go hungry not all but a lot of them however there are good police too 😉
If you can't afford to feed your kids, I sympathize, THEN DON'T TAKE THE CHANCE ON A FINE BY BEING AN A***OLE AND PARKING IN A HANDICAPPED SPACE!!!!!!!!!!
I got video of a CBC News van in a disabled spot.
Awesome! Is there a way to send it to me? I'll post it on my channel.
I know this is Canada so things may be different than in America, but in America they often have 10 handicap spaces in front of the store and most of them are open and then there is nothing available in the regular ares. They have way too many handi. I owned a insurance agency before and I was mandated to have a handicapped space even though I had a tiny lot of 5 parking spaces. It was my own private property and after hours or on the weekends when my business was closed and I was there alone working I would often park in the handicapped space either because I was unloading stuff or because it was late at night I wanted to be able to come out and get right in the car and not get robbed walking any further in the lot. I would have people trying to beat the door down at off hours to yell at me and say how dare you park in a handicapped space. I would tell them this is my private property and it's 8pm. I closed at 5! They would threaten to call the cops and then I would tell them to F*** off and go ahead. LOL! It's one thing to follow municipal laws on public streets or government buildings but in a private parking lot in the suburbs with no other businesses around you are not going to tell me where to park.
So by your logic handicapped people don't come out after 5 pm when you close and even if they do too bad they can't use your "privately owned" handicapped spots. How very gracious of you to even offer to give them a spot during operating hours.
@@wendyzcafe868 I'm a amputee and I've been handicapped since I was 12 and I would do the same as this man it's his parking lot for his store nobody else's so when his store closes there should be no need for someone to use that spot because his store is not open
@@danielnormand8156 They can get insurance during business hours, not while I'm closed. During business hours they can access the space completely unencumbered.
As a handicap person myself you're right after hours there should be no need for that to be reserved for a handicap person as they don't need to access your business. As to seeing them open and unused sometimes..so what? Handicap people can't travel very far (usually) and the number of stalls are based on the amount of people accessing the building. If someone who is abled bodied has to wait for a stall or park farther away....tough. Try living with a cane or wheelchair for the rest of your life. Those in convinces that able bodied people have is something disabled people dream of having again. I would love to be able to park at the back of a parking lot and walk into a store again like it was nothing.
@@loganholmberg2295 If there are no spaces handicapped or otherwise then I wouldn't step foot in there. There are way too many people in there already at that point. I have my groceries delivered.

Get rid of disabled parking spots. Just give them free parking. Stop giving out fines and start giving free perks to disabled parking permit holders. Less frustrating, less conflicts. The guy shot outside a convenience store in Florida, over a disabled parking spot, as an example.
You moron, accessibility is not about perks.
@@unikornalien2656 ... I got an iq over 200... instead of the cost of enforcement, and fines... which infuriates people... it is difficult to give anything away in a capitalist society.
@@wendyzcafe868 ... in B.C. for example... all crimes are downgraded as much as possible so as to create a false sense of safety and security. This increases tourism and boosts the economy. Way more crimes than we know about, thus silencing the victims is necessary. That's why the police track victims rather than convicted criminals. Most criminals get their records expunged after a few short years. Victims are forced and brainwashed to "tolerate" criminals rather than avoid danger.
You understand that disabled spaces are larger than regular spaces for a reason? That they are closer to the building for a reason? I need extra space to unload my chair. Someone with a ramp needs more space. Someone who uses a cane or crutches can't walk as far. If I have to park further away it's incredibly dangerous to get through a parking lot, I'm much lower and can't be seen by cars backing up. He'll even when thy are going forwards, people don't look down to see us. We need the larger, close spots to be able to access places, this is a civil rights issue. No spots = no access for many of us.
