I was going to say I just finished reading the latest book that came out about 2 weeks ago. And every single or writing skills than the entire production crew of Star Trek discovery
Yes, a books vs show video would be great. Hey did you notice 'Melba' used the trick the first guy she killed warned her about to shut down the Behemoth's power? Very touching and sad-like.
I like your video, you have a lovely twisted sense of humour, I presume that you're an Australian. Three cheers for Oz! Thanks for the amusing summary of season three.
They are both wonderful in their own very different ways 😍 Are you listening, Lucasfilm? THAT is how you do strong female characters. God damn this show rocks.
This is a very valuable public service. One of my friends loves the show, but has trouble following the intricacies of the plot. I have only one suggestion: More Alex!!!
I started watching this show because Holden is a spitting image of one of my friends. Then I binged the whole thing this week because this show is fucking awesome.
First time follower. Actually watched this while I am 1/2 through binge watching season 3. Couldn’t help it. 🤷🏻♂️ I’ll say this. You’re really entertaining. New follower here
Never heard of you, clicked on you to get caught up with exspanse seasin3, great video awesome music, was thinking the whole time ‘man this music is so appropriate for a sci wi theme’. Then you said it was yours so just giving props
Right on cheers man. I've been a bit inactive on the channel lately but have some new content coming soon. ALso working on a third album that will be professionally mixed and mastered this time haha. Cheers for the props.
Your added personal touches to your recaps and reviews add to the Awesomeness 👌 of your channel and your hang up on Bobbie The Martian Unit... got you a sub from me. I'm married but I'll join Holden's Montana Cult to add Bobbie and Drummer to my harem 😉!
Hey Jake, I always look forward to your season recaps!! As always another great upload, fuck yea! Amazing season, so stoked for Cibola Burn! Loved the music and would love a book to show comparison, please! Seeing Bobbie in that gunners seat next to Alex was something I've been waiting for and was so worth the wait!!
Jake's Place That was my first thought also! Gotta be honest, I'm a little conflicted. On one hand I would love having her on the Roci full time, on the other I worry too much Bobbie might become tedious..and thats the last thing I want. Also would having 'A Amos' & 'A Bobbie' on the same ahip really be a good idea? Ahhhh fuck! I'm glad I don't make these decisions, and am relieved it's in such capable hands!! I would love to see her spending some time with the crew on the Roci either way! We are losing Robin Veith (writer/producer), George Lee (writer/producer) & Bob Munroe (SFX supervisor/ wizard)last night were their final Expanse contributions and I'm pretty bummed about that :(
Loved this video. Your commentary is so engaging. Also side note- on the Drummer/Bobbie interests, it’s gotta be Drummer. She’d tell me off so much and be really mean and that’s what works for me yo.
Thanks man. We do it all ourselves and seeing as we are pretty noob at it the production values are not sensational but we have fun regardless! myfirstdeathray.bandcamp.com/
Yeah, well you did well for the most part. One tiny flaw is where you say that Melba uses a tooth to dispense the stimulant whereas, in the book, it clearly says that she triggers some glands to release the powerful stimulant by tracing a specific circular pattern on her palate with her tongue.
Richard Houghton Hardly a flaw. In the show they don't specify. You see her biting down and a clicking noise sounds. In fact when she is tied up with the drug suppressor thing on her arm you clearly see her slamming her jaw together, biting hard trying to release the drug. Rewatch that scene at you can easily get the impression it's in her teeth or at least thats how she releases it.
Man, please make a book/show comparison video. I found your channel while looking for some material regarding Altered Carbon, a great video mate. You are also the only person who has a decent review for Last Man on Earth, and couple of other things. Keep on keeping on, I wish your 3.9k subs to become half a mil and then some.
Jake's Place Yeah listen, I went ahead and listened to your podcast (on science fiction). You've got things to say and a sense of humor, I think if you'll start doing these videos twice a week and do more shows no one else is talking about, you'll get more traction. There is enough Star Wars click bait, we need more stuff like you are doing.
Unfortunately the guy I use to do the Sci Fi Podcast with didn't want to do it anymore, so it's just UA-cam for now. Those podcasts are years old now. I try to keep an open mind when watching Sci Fi as I am just a massive fan of the genre. I started making these videos for fun and just to get a conversation going. Recommend me some niche sci fi dude and I will give it a crack.

This is such a great tv show, I’ve been watching this and silo. I’ve been watching silo also. I’m so happy Amazon picked up. Amazon has been doing so great lately. They need more respect tbh, expanse has been so good ima have to watch it another time lol
I totally agree that the books compliment the show well. Which is a welcome change from the usual book to film experience. When there is a show/movie based on book(s), I’ve learned to watch before reading. Lol. So I just want to second your suggestion to dig into the Expanse books! While anyone who’s ever watched something based on a book they’ve also read, knows there are always deviations from the original material. The Expanse is no different when it comes to level of detail provided in the show vs books. However, what makes it special, in my opinion, is how well the books truly compliment the show. It’s like main story trajectory in both books + show are similar, but the books offer soooo much more backstory and details along the way. And that knowledge makes watching the show even more enjoyable. So I’m just shouting out to anyone else who just can’t get enough of The Expanse- the books have more of what you’re craving! And when a book/show compliment this good is so rare, it should be appreciated!
I just watched the final of season 3. Here are my thoughs. #1 Sentient who build the gate, aka the planet in the middle is the same one who controls the gates is probably not the same life form that created the human gate. I believe that Proto molecule build the gate in order to trick humanity to trick the PLANET to open more gates! See: proto molecule is probably considered a virus or locked out from the system after abusing it's powers. But they know how to build the gates. When gate was opened the PLANET needed to quarantine the new life form to see if it's a threat to the planet or if its a threat to other galaxies. That's why MC had to press the button, to confirm that the life form that opened the gate was indeed the life form that was created by that galaxy. By scanning MC the planed could confirm that and also confirm that the civilisation had the tech to open the gate. By tricking humanity into standing down, the proto molecule managed to convince the planet that the newly discovered species is not going to harm the planet. So the planet gave user rights to the human race.... But in reality humans are probably too stupid to realise what is happening, they are probably getting tricked by proto molecule to open access to other galaxies because Proto molecule want to eat, conquer and destroy. Now I'm off to binge watch season 4.
That's...pretty much totally not right. The protomolecule blob that was sent to Sol on Phoebe was intended to hijack primitive Earth life (microbes, not humans) to basically build a "road" to Sol that would allow the protomolecule engineers to travel with their variant of FTL to and from Sol. It failed in that mission because Phoebe's trajectory got screwed up by Saturn's gravity. Then humans messed with it, gave it enough power and material, and then it built the ring on Venus and then sent it out to turn on and connect to the ring space. The ring space already had its self-defense rules about speed and so on from billions of years ago. Humans broke the rules which led to the safety mechanisms all turning on. Then proto-Miller powered the safety mechanisms down and the whole system continued to function as it has functioned for billions of years. (If this didn't happen in season 3, sorry for the spoiler, but I think it did.) The actual protomolecule civilization itself is already completely dead. The protomolecule itself is just a tool, it doesn't have an "agenda", it just does "the Work" which in the case of the Phoebe blob was to build the road to Sol. The only way that the protomolecule civilization has "changed" in all this time is that proto-Miller, as shown in season 4, isn't entirely obeying his "programming" anymore, presumably because he has obtained a newfound compulsion to figure things out (even about the "enemy civilization") due to the influence of Miller's personality.
@@Latronibus I'm starting to think you have to read the books to understand what's actually happening in the series. For a while in season 2 I was lost on just distinguishing the various ships, planets, moons, space stations and which crews were where. Also, what a relief that in season 4 they fixed Naomi's hair. That's one thing.
it was the new evolution of the proto-molecule. it's a part of him now (as an intelligent passenger) and it seeks to discover why/how it's civilization was destroyed. naturally, James was found to be the best host so I think it will actually turn out to be a symbiotic relationship in the end.
Wait, they adapted book 3 in just half a season? I hope they don't mess up future adaptations like on GOT. The expanse books are great, read them people
That was only done because the showmakers were knew about it's cancellation, so..they did what they could to give fans a cool ending! Now that it's on Amazon, it can only get better! No more budget restrains, no more only 42 minutes episode! More blood, more curses! More Expanse!
to be fair, SF canceled the show not because it wasn't good, but because with their distribution setup they only made money on it if you watched it live on the channel during the standard air time... which lesson learned, not many people watch shows like that anymore. love the show, looking forward to seeing what they do on Amazon going forward.
I haven't read the books, but the Melba character was written weird.. She kills heartlessly kills a kind-hearted mentor, grieves and mopes around then leaves Tillie to die with no regrets. She did the devil mastermind face when she realized Holden was in jail with her -- and there was no explanation why she was so focused on him since lots of people were trying to stop psycho daddy from killing the universe. Despite her delighted anticipation of killing him, once she overhears a heartfelt convo between Holden and his girl, she's like "..awwwe.." and joins his team?
I love the part "scientists somehow understood, whatever the station is going to do is going to happen" :DDD. It like saying "something somewhere is happening"
My The Expanse quick summary 3X7 The ring near Uranus does not like thing going in fast 3X8 The ring near Uranus is ok with it if you enter slow and gentle 3X9 The ring near Uranus just took the Behemoth after an emotional speech 3X10 The ring near Uranus just clenched tightly after something exploded in there 3X11 The ring near Uranus has a rotating drum providing relief for everyone 3X12 The ring near Uranus really really hate something exploded in there 3X13 The ring near Uranus just had a multiple ring and its mind blown
That was just them entering the gate, just the ripple from the event horizon of the gate itself. We see this happen to a ship earlier in the series. EDIT: Just re-watched it, so it was definitely the event horizon of the wormhole but there was a spooky little thing in between the event event horizon. Def can't talk about that without mega spoilers haha!
It's the thing that causes the massive spoilers from book 6 and 7.... . . . . . . . . and probably is a twist that was pretty obvious to me by book 7's ending that is definitely what is going to be dealt with in book 8 and probably has something to do with what killed the ring builder civilization. It'll be fun if Diogo survives to be sent by Marcos to find his son in a Karaoke Bar, and then they miss the ship as it heads out to... get a close-up look at this effect lol.
Ah yep. Just re-watched it, so it was definitely the event horizon of the wormhole but there was a spooky little thing in between the event event horizon. Def can't talk about that without mega spoilers haha!
Yes but it's a cliffhanger dude. Not everything in the show means they expect you to know what it is right away. There would be no fun in that at all. We learn more and more as the story progresses, I don't want to spoil upcoming events as I said. If they show expects you to know what it is and we just missed it for whatever reason then I will do my best to explain it. But if it's a mysterious thing that will be revealed in due time then I am not going to spoil anything :) I will give you a hint though. Earlier in the season we learn that there is still a bit of protomolecule left on the Roci... DUN DUN DUN!
Interesting, I assumed from watching the show that Miller meant he needed a lift in Holden's head, but you're right, Holden doesn't have anything unusual in his head... the protomolecule is communicating with him by manifesting signals in Holden's brain. But to address the OP's question from a non-book-reader's perspective, my take on it is that the consciousness of the protomolecule doesn't know anymore what happened to the race that created it, and part of its motivation for allll this stuff was to get the help of a civilization that was a) advanced enough (hence why it was taking things apart) and b) non-destructive enough (I know, I know, but in the end we did stand down and show it that we can be reasonable) so that it can go through some of them wormholes and try to do some archaeology on its own creator. This is largely speculation on my part but I have a sense that I'm on the right track, based on some of the things said in the last ten minutes of the last episode.
I've read all 7 books so far, and I can confirm your speculation without spoiling anything. I will say stay tuned, this rabbit hole goes deep and the ride is fun!
Mass Effect was released in 2007. The first book in the Expanse series was released in 2011. If I had to guess, I would say that the main inspiration for Mass Effect was Farscape. Blue lady, reptile Ka-d'Argo etc. Also, hanky-panky with aliens.
I'd like to know what the weird blue ghost type thing that seems to go through Holden right at the end of the episode is...for some reason I'm thinking it was Miller and when he said he needed a ride, he meant literally let me hitch a ride in your body
The Title should read "THE EXPANSE Season 3 Recap" instead of "Explained", because that is really what this is. I came here to find out, why the wormholes weren't open right away. Anyway, great video!
Hmmm. I did actually mention this in the video dude. They explain in a way in the show as well. It was because of a greater alien force was attack them, so they shut down the wormholes to stop it from invading... ua-cam.com/video/RDujitIjKN8/v-deo.html
@@JakesPlace Thank you for your quick reply! I know there is a reason for them to be closed (the thread from other systems) and reason for them to be open (presumably the humans should stop the thread), however, since the wormholes were closed at first and opened later on, something must have happend, that changed how the protomolecule evaluated the situation, and I don't get what it was
Can't wait for season 4, looking forward to seeing hoe the new sets will look. How close will they try and imitate the book descriptions of the new alien worlds.
Great Video, you should do one on the future with book spoilers. I read many of the books, but I don't remember any threat that killed off the builders, it's been years, but am I wrong???
The preemptive strike on Mars first strike missiles was a tragedy. Errenwright talks the Secretary General into authorizing it. But he has second thoughts and orders it to stand down. Then later when Errenwright makes more false accusations the Secretary General orders the Mars missiles fired on. But the first activation and stand down lead to a deley in the firing on the fifth station. This allows that station to fire its own missiles. The US blocks all but one which is the one that lands in South America killing 2 million people. When Errenwright is later revealed to be the traitor who purposely started the war, the Secretary General is mostly just happy to have a person to blame everything on.
Hey friends. I just finished The Expanse Books VS Show video: Check it out: ua-cam.com/video/1tfo8vsjqpg/v-deo.html
What book should I start with to continue the events after season 3?
Yes, thanks for taking your time in making it.
Season 4 on Amazon prime. SciFi cancelled it.
Me too
I was going to say I just finished reading the latest book that came out about 2 weeks ago. And every single or writing skills than the entire production crew of Star Trek discovery
Who's watching this before binge-watching season 4?
Watching before I binge season 6 woohoo. Binged right up to season 5 then the pandemic hit and now I can’t remember a goddamn thing
You have to admire the confidence of the show runners given how slow this series started.
The Agata King mutiny arc was by far my favourite. So much tension and so much shit going on
Binge watched all 3 seasons in 2 weeks. I have ended up here trying to reduce withdrawal symptoms.
Took me a week. So good.
We only have till June. These guys have been waiting a year lol. I'm gonna read the books I think. Can't wait.
@@METALFREAK03 Took me 2 days, noobs.
Binged watched it in two weeks then I binged the audio books. Now im waiting for the next book!
Same here. I tried to space it out (pun intended after realizing what I just typed) but I always ended up watching 2-3 episodes a day. ;)
Yes, a books vs show video would be great. Hey did you notice 'Melba' used the trick the first guy she killed warned her about to shut down the Behemoth's power? Very touching and sad-like.
Yeah the whole Melba story was heartbreaking. I know shes a super bad terrorist, but she just wanted daddies love. Poor thing. Also fuck Melba! hahaha
Yes please a books vs show video. Iv read the books upto current but the books are so far ahead I'm forgetting what happened exactly.
More like completely predictable and cliche. And her whole arc was just as he said a whole new level of daddy issues.
I was like who the fuck is Melba? I had completely forgotten her fake name
I think you have a crush on Bobbie
alabasta rumties she is thicc indeed
Illusive Man I am more of a petite guy but Bobbie is an exception. 😍
ummmm mmmmmm
so say we all........SO SAY WE ALL!!!
So does Alex
"That's what i'd liked to know, gonna need a ride" -Protomiller. This season, this show 10/10.

I love your humor. Makes me almost pee myself laughing. Bobbi ummm hmmm. Avasaralalalalala. Good recap too, subbed!

Both are hot. Melba is also sizzling.
I have a thing for drummer too.
I call the ring zone Grand Central Spacion.

arh2k eyyy, 2001... Good choice
I did not expect this video out so fast after the end of season. Absolutely, books vs show is mandatory.
I'll get right on it Bossman

He's my least favorite -- well second to Drummer. All that "darlin" this and "darlin" that and the country music.. Sheesh.
I started watching this show because Holden is a spitting image of one of my friends. Then I binged the whole thing this week because this show is fucking awesome.
I love your explanations of this show! So much goes on that it's hard to follow sometimes!

Drummer is a stone cold Badass !!!!!
Cara Gee is SO great in that role, for a while I actually wondered if the actress (in reality) had some type of mild speech impediment.
I loved drummer right up until asheford showed up and she didn’t space him.

Can you explain what the blue flash was that seemed to attack Holden when he passed/left the ring wormhole?
it was the new evolution of the proto-molecule. it's a part of him now (as an intelligent passenger) and it seeks to discover why/how it's civilization was destroyed. naturally, James was found to be the best host so I think it will actually turn out to be a symbiotic relationship in the end.
Book vs show would be awesome
Intelligent sci-fi definitely worth a Season 4.
The first episode hooked me...great writing.
I was watching seriously... And then 17:15 I couldn't stop laughing... Great video 😂😂🔥
Cant help but think of Babylon 5 as I watch this
to be fair, SF canceled the show not because it wasn't good, but because with their distribution setup they only made money on it if you watched it live on the channel during the standard air time... which lesson learned, not many people watch shows like that anymore. love the show, looking forward to seeing what they do on Amazon going forward.
Its ok, I'm really bad at names too! Great commentary, laughed out loud a few times. Thanx
I love the part "scientists somehow understood, whatever the station is going to do is going to happen" :DDD. It like saying "something somewhere is happening"
Probably the best scifi show since the bsg reboot.
Well, this is basically mass effect just as a series... i love it!
Bobby is easy on the eyes for sure.
A book vs show video wold be good. I am several books ahead as I really enjoyed the story line. Addicted.
make video comparing the book to the show
This is a summary, not an explanation.
Yes compare the show to the book
Can someone explain to me is the quote from Miller, "Doors and Corners" have any significant meaning?
That's where they get you.
José M. Pérez-Rodríguez Go into a room too fast, the room eats you!!!
well poo in a pillow.. best recap ever.
I am glad you said it was the guy with grenade not Holden everyone is blaming Holden for the change in speed it the Marines that was with Bobbi.
My The Expanse quick summary
3X7 The ring near Uranus does not like thing going in fast
3X8 The ring near Uranus is ok with it if you enter slow and gentle
3X9 The ring near Uranus just took the Behemoth after an emotional speech
3X10 The ring near Uranus just clenched tightly after something exploded in there
3X11 The ring near Uranus has a rotating drum providing relief for everyone
3X12 The ring near Uranus really really hate something exploded in there
3X13 The ring near Uranus just had a multiple ring and its mind blown
what hits holden as he crosses the gate at the end?
That was just them entering the gate, just the ripple from the event horizon of the gate itself. We see this happen to a ship earlier in the series.
EDIT: Just re-watched it, so it was definitely the event horizon of the wormhole but there was a spooky little thing in between the event event horizon. Def can't talk about that without mega spoilers haha!
Jake's Place it looked different. And with that music too..
I don't think so..
It's the thing that causes the massive spoilers from book 6 and 7....

and probably is a twist that was pretty obvious to me by book 7's ending that is definitely what is going to be dealt with in book 8 and probably has something to do with what killed the ring builder civilization.
13:00 - Bah who needs a break when you cook while watching?
I really enjoyed Bull in the books not quite sure why they left him out. (even though Drummer does a decent job of his character)
“Sick bastard” LITERALLY ME EVERY TIME
wHAT about the ending where miller needs a lift -
bublebuble2004 If I told you that I would be giving away up coming events now wouldn't I ;)
But it was in the show.
But if it's a mysterious thing that will be revealed in due time then I am not going to spoil anything :)
I will give you a hint though.
I will say stay tuned,
this rabbit hole goes deep and the ride is fun!
You forgot Amos 'I am that guy!!'.
yukin1990 hmmmm. No I didn't 12:10
@@JakesPlace That's you crushing on Bobbie
Everything is him crushing Bobby, which is perfectly understandable.
3:50 Avasaralalala... fucking ded hahahaha xD
Please do a books vid. Enjoyed your video. Love the series and books as well.
Already gotcha back son. ua-cam.com/video/1tfo8vsjqpg/v-deo.html
This is reminding me of mass effect... I never knew that game was influenced so much by these books
Similar to the backstory of Eve.
@@menthar except there is zero understanding of the technology or its makers except it's existence.
Mass Effect was released in 2007. The first book in the Expanse series was released in 2011. If I had to guess, I would say that the main inspiration for Mass Effect was Farscape. Blue lady, reptile Ka-d'Argo etc. Also, hanky-panky with aliens.
Warhammer 40k inspired it also.
@@DarkSolace33 you are very wrong there and you got issues.
This was fucking awesome 🔥🔥🔥 going to start the books
When does season 4 come out? Its coming to Amazon? Will it come to DVD? How many books are there of the stories?
I'd like to know what the weird blue ghost type thing that seems to go through Holden right at the end of the episode is...for some reason I'm thinking it was Miller and when he said he needed a ride, he meant literally let me hitch a ride in your body
There is also a thing in the event horizon as well. But can't say more without spoilers. Tehehe
Saronus 1 but Miller is already on the roci through the proto trace left on it
Its been a while..
Before i binge watch season 4....let me just recap...
Did you say you've read all the books? You show the cover for Tiamat's Wrath. Please do send us all a copy of that then...GO ON!!! ;-)
Bobbie is Bae change my mind
i clicked on this video hoping you were going to discuss the spectre at the very very end of episode 13
Great Video, you should do one on the future with book spoilers. I read many of the books, but I don't remember any threat that killed off the builders, it's been years, but am I wrong???
This is like call of duty infinate warfare live action. amazing.
The “ring” is 2 AUs from Uranus, it orbits the sun. I like to think of it as the ring leads to the gate room...
The season 4 teaser and trailer are fucking lit!!!
