- Blues is one of the most versatile styles of music, and the feel, inflections, techniques, & tones that originated in early blues music have been applied to nearly every genre. The styles of blues guitar that have developed through the years are nearly endless, but here's a little trip through some of the heavy hitters.
Many of these styles owe their name to the combination of genres that led to their creation, like Ragtime Blues, Gospel Blues, Blues Rock, Surf Blues, etc, while others are more of a sub-genre within the Blues idiom, named after the region they sprung from, like Delta Blues, Hill Country Blues, Piedmont Blues, Texas Blues, etc.
Many of the compositions themselves don't define the type of blues, instead it's the instrumentation or production techniques that create the overall feel of the genre. For example, upright bass and slap echo on the guitar create the Rockabilly vibe, while the combination of early Rock & Roll, Country, and Folk instrumentation and tones create a distinct Americana vibe.
While this is, by no means, an exhaustive list, these are some of my favorite to play and record. If you want me to cover more in future videos and recordings, let me know!

My 66 yr old brother who was healthy caught Covid in Jan. 2022. He passed away on March 3. Yesterday marked 1 month. He introduced me to you, Justin. He loved your music. Amazing Grace was one of his favorite hymns. Thank you for doing your own rendition of this song. Your music has lifted my spirits and has been helping with the grieving process. Bless you Justin.

Here I am again, a beautiful Saturday night 🌙 and I'm grilling some pig and chicken and trying to watch JJ, I listen while I'm prepping the food but I need to watch the Master. 😁 the only way I can explain it is, I'm so proud for JJ like he was my only son? Don't get me wrong though, I have two sons I'm very proud of and I love them so much, but it makes me very, very happy to see someone so into their element and give so much to us, it's like when someone says, the planets are aligned and good things will come. The endless hours of hard work that JJ puts into every set is astonishing, I've never seen anyone make it look so easy, And maybe it is when you're doing something that you love and live? God bless Justin.

I'm not sure how he popped up on my recommendations either (GOD) . But man,I gotta say, ever since I found out about him it's become like a nearly constant soundtrack for me. I hardly watch anything else any more (it's starting to get a little ridiculous if I'm honest lol) I wonder sometimes, if most of the like,1/2 million views he'll get on a video are, just fifty of uswatching them over and over again ?lol . cheers!

Justin Johnson is not only one of the greatest living bluesmen today, but he is one of the all-time greats, right at the top of The Mount Olympus of Blues, where there are no better or worse, just G.O.A.T.S., not to mention he has one of the coolest collections of guitars and equipment in the world. After a long period of being bored and losing interest in the Blues, I am in LOVE with the Blues again!!!!

Yes blues played with such an eclectic style help the grieving process. My hubby passed away from Covid too Oct 2021. Sorry for everybody's loss. On that note what a pretty shell.

Ridiculously talented. Most people could practice 24/7/365 for 30 years and never reach this level. At some point they'd hit a wall where their talent has peaked and from that moment forward they're just maintaining their acquired skills. Justin is in rare territory that very few can reach regardless of their devotion to the craft.

I can only wish I had the talent in my hands like JJ and all of these guys that are rocking and have a little bit of fun in their lives? My old arthritic hands aren't able to do this kind of beautiful playing anymore and mind you? I've never, ever seen anyone with so much talent and love for playing? I mean yeah we all love the old blues and jazz and rock, and not everyone wants to be in the world spotlight? Sometimes this is what makes us different? Sorry to disagree… not “some of the best”. I say THE BEST, because there is no style inside the genre where he doesn’t excel. There are some great players out there, but many are a bit one dimensional. But not JJ. He can and does play every style.

All the people playing in the studio with JJ are great also, I'm so glad there's digital footprints now, not like back in the 20's or 30's and before that, so much has been lost over time because it wasn't possible back then, so many greats from then.
