19:21 You know what's cool about "On Your New Journey"? It's the song that ended the original continuity of BanG Dream (what fans nickname "Betadori"), summing up all their character growth into a song, and then as you mention here it was used in the final anime entry to feature Poppin' Party in the lead role, and in that film was used to inspire who at that time were the two newest bands to the franchise, Raise a Suilen and Morfonica.
Oh wow, I knew about Betadori (Rimi the ninja lol) but I didn't know "On Your New Journey" was the swan song for that version of the project. You're right, that gives it a whole new degree of emotional weight and significance even just beyond the text of the song itself.
Honesty, this was a well-made video that really encapsulates why its MyGO works and is a great anime. On a side note, i'm one of the few writers who makes fanfictions about Bang Dream. I really focused on MyGO and Ave Mujica, and this video gave me more context about all the new characters and legacy Keep up the amazing videos!!!
I did, in fact, go into MyGO!!!!! totally blind. The extent of my knowledge of BanG Dream! as a franchise consisted of "there is a franchise with the name 'BanG Dream!'." I had _such_ non-recognition of the legacy cameos that I needed to rewatch the show to have anything more than the vaguest of suspicions that there even were, in fact, legacy cameos. It was _still_ my second-favorite show of 2023.
As someone who just recently finished all 3 prior seasons of Bandori before MyGO, this was an absolutely fantastic video to watch. I'm looking forward to seeing the other video essays you end up making!
Man... I just caught up with My Go to watch Ave Mujica and I realise there were few details that skipped passed me. Though I do like the passing the baton moment over to My Go. Made me recall fondly when Aquors went to that seaside station and we see 9 feathers flying off to the sunset.

So happy seeing a mygo video especially from someone who wasn’t deeply invested in the series prior. The funny thing about all this is mygo being in the same universe as the rest of the series was a late decision but I think it really paid off. The way the previous cast show up throughout without the story putting much spotlight on their existence makes the setting feel larger to be focusing on new characters from the perspective that they also don’t know much about these bands personally. I really hope alongside mygo you consider talking about the rest of this series since I think it’s largely ignored by the greater western anime community. Alongside mygo having the implications to an outsider of requiring years of prior context, a lot of people I’ve seen tend to generalize the franchise as an idol series which is a genre people tend to be allergic to. Don’t even get me started on the stories within the game which are honestly the bulk of the series more than the anime. Those get neglected even by fans of the series, and from outsiders have to face the hurdle that comes with being part of a gacha game, which inherently is a negative for a lot of people. TLDR; I’ve been fighting for people to try this series ever since getting into it about 2 years ago now, and I’m glad mygo has finally let some people give it a chance.
I have been a silent follower of you on twitter, always really liked your thoughts/threads on shows especially when MyGo was airing and so I was very happy when I saw that you uploaded a MyGo video essay. I just want to say thank you for this! You did such a good job introducing this franchise and tying it all together, and the analysis is just mwah!!! I love it, looking forward for more video essays/analysis whether be it more MyGo or other shows!
Great video! It's MyGo is also my first foray into BanG Dream and as others have said the additional context is appreciated. Still an incredible show even knowing nothing going in. Looking forward to more of your analysis! Also, being a newbie, I assumed Umiri was a legacy character until like episode 10 when I finally looked her up on the wiki lol.
Truly excellent video! As someone whose only interaction with the BanG Dream! franchise prior to It's MyGO!!!!!! had been the first season of the original anime, and _then_ proceeded to get really into the rhythm game after *loving* the story It's MyGO!!!!! had told... Yeah, I'd say you really gracefully put into words how certain moments (and cameos!) land with _and_ without that additional context. Not only that, but everything else about the video (narration, visuals and musical choices) was also really well put together! I really loved your work here, and I'll be looking forward to any and all future videos you decide to produce!
Thank you so much! Yeah, I watched S1 a couple years back but I barely remember it, so watching MyGO, bingeing the old stuff, and then rewatching MyGO was a fun experience, I got to see it from both sides.
Great video :D At first I felt that something was missing about this anime but when I put two in two after watching it the second time and realize the main reason why Sakiko left Crychic I felt that that is the big part that concludes my high rating of myGO. It's a crazy bundle of rollercoasters of emotions that set some of the supporting characters to be an antagonist and then did a 180 by showing the audience their point of view. They did a great job antagonizing Soyo at first and then shows just how human she is by a great method of show-not-tell. I'm pretty sure they try to do that with Sakiko as well with the little hints of; such as Sakiko having a job and the most final moment of the anime, but I'm quite certain they're trying not to show to much of Sakiko since she'll be the star of the sequel anime Ave Mujica (hype!). I'm personally not a fan of Bandori cheery idol type of anime but I'm really all for the mature vibes that MyGO presents and I'll have to admit that I'm a bit obsessed with this anime, both MyGO and Avemuji members and their music ^^ great video!
I'm watching this video for the 10th time now and I wish I could like it multiple times. I hope you come back one day to make more such quality content!
The video is so great that I can't believe it's your first video essay, and I'm so happy to see the analysis on It's MyGO!!!!! from outside Sinosphere, in which I can get different perspectives. Thanks so much!
Algorithm says hi. I wasn't too invested into MyGo until I watched the anime and then learned the back stories of the actors. They had a mini documentary done of them and I'd highly recommend it
Back then I watched bandori's first seasons while I was struggling mentally, and it brought hope I'm my life, even building my personality by making me become a guitarist, and seeing a fresh high quality show like it's mygo makes me so happy
aahh i love this video so much and as a die hard afterglow fan you discussing them so much totally made my day!! i love mygo and i can’t wait to see more of your videos on them :D
I recognised the significance of Kasumi passing the mic to Tomori, but that's about it. I really did think that most of the previous characters' appearances were just for Easter egg, so thank you for this essay! I would've definitely missed out all the meanings behind the scenes.
Lovely video! MyGO provides a great tonal shift to the BD franchise while still being newcomer-friendly. I think any new fans that start off with MyGO before going back to the earlier seasons/mobage stories will be able to appreciate how much BD has evolved and improved over the years. And THANK YOU for acknowledging Tomori's autistic coding in this video! It's insane how much Bandori nails the "lonely autistic teen girl" experience with some of its new characters (Nanami and Tomori.) It's nice to see the series do something new by exploring that, both as a longtime fan and as someone who felt the same thing when she was growing up. It'll take a bit for the MyGO girls to get some more character development (same thing happened with Morfonica's girls, especially Rui,) and I'm looking forward to seeing how they grow. I want them to be happy!!!
Last October 12 and 13 at Ayala Malls TriNoma in Manila Philippines for the Bushiroad EXPO 2024, I was fortunate to meet one of the members of the real-life Japanese all-female rock band called MyGO!!!!! the band's rhythm guitarist and the seiyuu for Chihaya Anon from BanG Dream! It's MyGO!!!!! the lovely Tateishi Rin-chan in the autograph sessions at the event and the crazy part is the autograph sessions are limited to 30 people and are won via lottery kinda of like a gacha that you have to get a number from 1- 30, the fact that I've got a slot for both days is just pure luck, and it still feel so surreal that I didn't just beat the odds but I also managed to meet her in person both days and I swear I just can't explain how beautiful and radiant she is and probably one of the nicest people I've ever met, she's so nice, friendly, and she really is such a sweetheart and I swear once I finally moved to Japan, MyGO!!!!! will be one of those bands that I will going to watch perform live.
Had no clue they had more Bang Dream anime content releasing. I just recently read about MYGO!!! through the game and as a returning fan, it was done extremely well. To the extent that I'm now an Anon stan when I used to main Yukina.
I just attended Bushiroad EXPO 2024 in Manila last Saturday and Sunday, October 12 and 13 and on both days I met Anon's seiyuu and the guitarist for the real-life MyGO!!!!! the lovely Tateishi Rin-chan in the autograph sessions, and these autograph sessions are only limited to 30 people and slots are won by a lottery kinda like a form of a gacha and you have to pick a number from 1-30 then it qualifies you to purchase her Bromide which is like a postcard with a picture of her in it and that Bromide is where she will sign and luckily for me in both days I'm one of those lucky participants who got a chance to meet her and I swear I can't describe how beautiful and radiant she is, she's so nice, friendly and she really is such a sweetheart.
As for someone who's been a fan of this franchise for 7 years now and knows Boss Kidani's vision that he wanted BanG Dream! to be like Gundam a franchise that's been around for almost 50 years now so of course they will introduce new bands as the years progress and to be honest, I don't mind if they will introduce new characters cause as the saying goes the more the merrier and besides it's such a great thing to have newer faces that to stuck with the same characters, musical style, and formula over and over and let's be real here the seiyuu/musicians, especially for the real-life bands they will get older eventually so having newer blood, is such a great thing for this franchise to continue for so many years.
Great video, MyGo also use a lot spesific lighting to convey emotion or mood for the room or certain character which is pretty clever. the only minus i could think of probably the Stage are waaaay too dark and bland (seriously its black backdrop with black stage floor, its so off-putting)
Yeah, I think they must have color-times those backstage scenes in a pitch-black room, haha. It looks great when I watch it on my TV with the blinds closed, but anywhere else and I'm squinting.
/i binged the entirety of BanG Dream before going into MyGo, but only the anime. I did not have a "journey" with them- to me, they are the (VERY COOL) people I know about last weekend. So while I went "Hey it's THAT person", I did not have the "attachment" one might have if they stayed in the community for three years straight. So, thank you for this video, it helped me understand both MyGo and the og Bandori more
This was a great video, and I really loved all the points you made! I don't know if this is nit-picky of me, but in the future if you make more Bandori-related videos, please fix your pronunciations of the characters names! Specifically the "a" sound. For example, you pronounce Taki close to "tacky", when it should be pronounced like "tah-kee", Ako, should be pronounced "ah-ko", and Kasumi needs that "ah" sound too. Was a little distracting from an otherwise entertaining video!
16:38 you know what? it would be *cliche* (idk the right word/phrase to use lol) if Kasumi "will save MyGO!!!!! members world" when she appeared at peak conflict & i can assume new fans will disappointed with that (even me as Bandori fans for few years), glad Ayana not choosing that way 😅
Yeah, Kasumi swooping in to save the day would have been one of the worst choices this show could make. Super pleased the show opted not to go in that direction.
In a nutshell: New fans: Nervousness from MyGo!!!!! Old Fans: Big Anxiety and Expectations from MyGo!!!!! Because not only you don't need context about it but its another layer of how MyGo!!!!! Will struggle with interacting not just legacy characters but other characters as well old and new. It's a masterpiece and have deeper meaning to it.
Though I do agree that the writing for BanG Dream! It's MyGO!!!!! is way darker and more mature since it has themes such as Trauma, Gaslighting, Blaming, Guiltripping, Mental Manipulation, etc. The previous seasons also have drama in them since the inception of BanG Dream! in 2015 BanG Dream! already has drama and darker themes in it. For those who don't know the story in the mobile game and even in the previous series are already being retconned since the original story of BanG Dream is not the BanG Dream! that everyone knows. The character designs and the personalities of the characters are completely different from what everyone knows. In the original story, Kasumi has a very gloomy personality, she has poor eyesight and wears glasses and contact lenses, she's being bullied at school for singing all the time and they call her a karaoke girl, Saaya's mother is ill and her father is an alcoholic, Tae is a Tsundere, Rimi is a Chunibyo she calls herself a ninja and she calls Kasumi as Master and she sells rice at school, and Arisa is an Otaku and her personality is so cheerful. That's basically what the original BanG Dream! was before they retconned the whole thing and I actually considered the new series BanG Dream! It's MyGO!!!!!! as a return to their actual roots.
@@Kumozu-sp7lw From the Original Story in Light Novel in 2015 before it was retconned. The things I mentioned are also written in the BanG Dream! Wiki Fandom.

Hello, I love this video so much that I want to transport it on bilibili with Chinese subtitle to share it with more people. Would you please give me the approval?
As someone who is interested in BangDream i can't see MyGO like just a good anime. In BangDream franchise they look really strange..... Their name's doesn't sound original. I mean in MyGO we have Anon when in Hello Happy World we have Kanon. In MyGO we have Soyo when in Poppin Party we have Saya and in Roselia Sayo. Their designs looks really boring and like their not from a BangDream. I think that they are good only because of Raana and Ave Mujica in their story. But Raana looks like new Moca and the only thing that makes them in BangDream universe
They fit the aesthetic change that started with Morfonication though. Now that I think about, Morfonica’s mini series was much closer to It’s MyGO tonally than the original 3 seasons as well.
As someone who knew nothing of BanG Dream before watching MyGO, and who has still not watched any of the other seasons, this video did a great job of explaining the significance of the legacy characters, and increased my interest in checking out the other seasons. Well written, narrated, and edited! I'll be watching for any further MyGO content with great interest.
Thank you!! If this inspired you to check out the older stuff then that's awesome!
Absolutely, this made me check all the other seasons of Bang Dream, including all the movies.
One of the only idol shows that’s left me legitimately shook, great video!
And the game

Yeah, Kasumi swooping in to save the day would have been one of the worst choices this show could make. Super pleased the show opted not to go in that direction.

In a nutshell:
New fans: Nervousness from MyGo!!!!!
Great anime.
Where did you know all of this please
@@Kumozu-sp7lw From the Original Story in Light Novel in 2015 before it was retconned. The things I mentioned are also written in the BanG Dream! Wiki Fandom.
Hello Happy World being banned from MyGO because they would entirely ruin the plot
It would be interesting to see if they were ever going to appear in Ave Mujica anime.
God, imagine Kokoro and Sakiko having a conversation.
@@EBDiMartinoGirl who is now in poverty meets girl who can fly her band for a weekend vacation in France with her personal jet. Sounds like a recipe for disaster.
The title say [Essay] you writing this for a school project or somethin lol?

Hello there!
FYI s1 predated the mobile game and almost tanked the whole franchise and the studio doing the rest is now owned by bushiroad
RIP
Speak clearly lil bro
if you aren't already working on it, please do Girls Band Cry next!
Oh, that's a thought! I have a few more MyGO videos in process but maybe after those ...
