Links Look a bit Dodgy ?!?
No Links Work OK and take you to the relevant AMAZON outlet for each country
Hey there. Yes, every link will go to the relevant Amazon store for each country.
Thanks, Pete. I'm going to give the Atolla 4-Port Powered USB Hub a shot. Just $16.99 at Amazon
Ended up watching like 4 of your videos just because I wanted to know something, at the end, it was really interesting! I learned about powered USB Hubs and how to use a powerful headset on my iphone, keep the great work going!
Thanks my friend. Welcome to the community. I hope you get value from the other videos on the channel and consider subscribing if you haven’t already. 👍
Finally a well made video with the exact explanations that are needed to connect and use everything.
Thanks my friend. Glad it helped. I hope you get value from the other videos on the channel and consider subscribing if you haven’t already. 👍
Thanks for this video bro your GarageBand tutorials are the best in the web!!!
Thanks so much my friend. Appreciate you taking the time to comment.
There I was thinking I needed to buy a new USB keyboard controller until your video instructed me to dig out my powered USB hub! And then I learned I could hook up my USB audio interface at the same time! Now after spending less than $100 on apps and an hour of time I have a comparable recording system on my ipad to the one I had 10 years ago on a monster PC. Thank you Pete!
That’s fantastic to hear Iain. Yes, it’s quite remarkable what you can put together in a mobile recording studio these days! The powered hub is definitely the secret sauce to getting everything connected and playing nicely. Be sure to sure some of what you create with me. I’m always really curious to hear what others are creating.
I really appreciate you getting back to me so quickly. It’s good to know there are people like you who stay loyal and on top of their game.
Thank you again for your time and info.
No problems at all. Thanks fro your support and thanks again for watching.
Thanks again for the quick response. I suppose for best results, is to record different tracks for different harmony parts. Your knowledge
of GarageBand and it’s functions are truly appreciated. Will be in touch
Nice one. Yes, definitely let me know how you go. 👍
to think I was going to shell out $2,000 for a macbook. Now I can spend a fraction of that on an ipad and still get the job done. Thanks for the videos!!
You’re very welcome my friend. In case you missed my recent live stream, I went through all the gear I currently use and recommend which you might find useful. ua-cam.com/video/5uLgcYEx0sA/v-deo.html
seriously... with this setup and Cubasis or even GB, can do a lot of damage :)
Wow so much information in just few minutes this is cool!
Thanks my friend. I hope you get value from the other videos on the channel and consider subscribing if you haven’t already. 👍
Hey, Pete! Amazing! Thinking back to my Tascam 4 track? I thought it was so amazing. But this? This is science fiction! Anyone with an iPhone can do this! This is what music is all about! It's so Punk rock! Thanks, for all you do, Pete! Have a wonderful holiday. Wishing you and yours the best of everything! 😊
Cheers Thom. Yes, it’s some voodoo witchcraft stuff for sures!! Thanks for all your support this year and hope you have w great holiday seasons also. 👍
Love your videos a lot Pete. They are very informative and educate me on how much more I can do with my iPhone and iPad as a musican. God Bless you, God Bless Stuido Live Today !!
Thank you so much my friend. I really appreciate your kind words. 👍

Excellent help, straightforward and clear support. Explaining the pitfalls clearly. Thanks.
Cheers Joe. Appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Any questions you have after watching this or about your music creation in general?
I really need to thank you for your videos Pete, months ago I was able to do my first gig just with this setup (plus a guitar) and it sounded great. Still coming back for useful info. Keep it up and cheers from Chile!
Wonderful! Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know Charly. Take care my friend.
Wow! Thanks for this Video Pete! This is what i am looking for i just need an audio interface and a powered usb for me to be able to record on multi-track at the sme time. Continue to inspire us by your works. Cheers!

I have a roland fp7 piano and have had no luck in connecting it to my Ipad Air 3rd generation. I used the lightning adapter, but it's not an original one, I also bought a midi cable to connect directly to my ipad and also no luck. I don't know if it's the cables or it's the devices which are incompatible. Your channel is incredibly helpful, by the way. I have learnt so much and have recorded two songs on the iPad, thanks to you. Hope I can connect my piano to my ipad someday
Hey there. You really need to invest in that genuine Apple Lightning to USB 3 adapter I’m afraid. ua-cam.com/video/qt6ZczdUdV4/v-deo.html
@@PeteJohnsMusic thanks a lot for your reply and for all the incredible work you always put up here.
SM57, the best microphone in the world. Nice trick, man!
😁🙏
Excellent and very informative video. Just the info I need right now. I plan to go from iPad Pro USB-C to USB-C port on powered hub and connect a Soundcraft 12 MTK (mixer/audio interface) and two MIDI keyboards to remaining USB ports. Thank you. Subd.
Great stuff! How is your setup working out for you?
Pete Johns it’s working really great. I did have to add an Apple Av adapter so I can charge the a iPad Pro while working.
Thank you so much for your video so easy to understand.
You’re very welcome my friend. I hope you get value from the other videos here on the channel and consider subscribing. 👍
Pete!!! You Are The Man!!! My 2009 MacBook Pro died but I have multiple iPads one of them being a multiple gig and I've been using them to record using a GuitarPort and an iPro. Many thanks to your video! I had a rope ready to end the tragedy but thanks to you I am recording easier than ever. Brilliant mate! Do you have any tips for and external video monitor for iOS using Apple TV or something? Any help would be appreciated. I hope you read this. I know it's an older video, but I've just recently become addicted to your channel. I would also like to say that you are a very proficient, captivating and endearing musician. I love your music! Please help with the video interface since I'm likely blind and bigger monitoring would be helpful. I love you Pete so much! Bless!
Hey Christopher. Thanks so much for the kind words my friend!
So the biggest problem with displaying your iPhone or iPad externally is lag between the input and the display.
I use AirPlay to send my iOS device to my TV via my Apple TV, especially when I’m mixing and want to hear the audio through my home theatre speakers, but there is a delay between the screen and the TV. There is also occasional glitches in the audio, depending on how good the WiFi signal is.
The other option is to use the lightning to AV cable which allows you to output from your iOS device via HDMI, which has significantly less lag. But this cable is pretty pricey.
Hope this helps and thanks again for watching.
Pete.
Damn... thanks! Exactly what I needed and so much simpler than what I tried to get my Focusrite and Yamaha PSR to connect at same time (which failed miserably). Buying powered hub right now :) Has been kind of flow kill to have to switch cables when I want to go from keys/midi to guitars/vocals. Keep up the good work, this is a great channel!
Thanks my friend. Yes, once you go powered hub you will never go back! So convenient!! 🙏
@@PeteJohnsMusic you rock... my powered usb arrived and as advertised, with no fuss I now have midi keyboard and voice/guitar focusrite audio all working together!
Your videos are outstanding Pete. You make quite complex things very easy to understand and that gives me confidence to go ahead and try them myself. Thank you very much for uploading such quality instructional Vids.
Thank you my friend. I really appreciate your support and kind worlds. If there is anything I haven’t covered that you would like to hear about, please let me know.
Great VID, btw your singing voice is a mix of Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel. Good day to you all.
Thank you! I’ve heard similar comparison lately which I will definitely take as a compliment. I was a big Genesis fan back in the day, so happy if I can sound like Phil! If only I could play drums like him too!!
This is just the video I was looking for. Answered all of my questions!
Awesome! That’s great to hear. Happy USB device connecting. 😀
mindblowing, so it's technically possible to use a multitrack interface to record 8 separate channels on an ipad or iphone? you sir just earned a new follower.
Finally, This one I’m looking for 💃🏻
Thank you 🙏🏼
You’re very welcome my friend. I hope you get value from the other videos here on the channel and consider subscribing. 👍
I’ve always wondered how that would work. Great.
Thanks Brian. Appreciate your support sir. 👍
Thanks for explaining this. I recently decided to create a home studio, and I’m learning as much as I can. I’m new to this. I was confused about hubs, power adapters, and plugs. You got new subscriber. I will be raiding your videos & playlists!
Awesome! Thanks so much for watching and subscribing, and I hope you find some more content that will help you get set up and recording YOUR best music! 👍
Very nice hardware explanation. A demo of actually transferring files from an iPad app, like Photos, to the hard drive, maybe using split screen, would’ve been nice.
Hey there my friend. Check out this video for a demo of the new USB file support in iOS 13 - ua-cam.com/video/FcwIv7zZ7J8/v-deo.html

Oh ok, thanks for that 👍
You're a genius Pete!
Haha! Thanks for your kind words. There’s people with eight devices hooked up that are calling me amateur right now. 😄
I kept meaning to try this. Thanks Pete!
Me too! So I did. 😄. Hope this encourages you to give it a go.
Great info Pete
Cheers Mark. Never know where you are going to pop up with a comment next! 🙂🙏

Very nice trick. Why don’t you insert the result of your recording on the video? But I guess that sounds great.

Awesome! Hope you create some awesomeness with your setup. Keep me posted!
Hey Pete, I was wondering, if I purchased the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter, and connected the Phone charging port to my pc, would it not only charge but also connect the device and would I then be able to tether a usb personal hotspot through it? As I'm worried that even though it comes with the Phone charging port, it will only be able to charge and not be able to be recognised on my pc through the device manager.
Hey there. The Lightning port on the genuine Apple Lightning to USB 3 adapter is only a power port I’m afraid.
@@PeteJohnsMusic Thank you for the quick reply, thats a bummer then. Do you know of any way that what I mentioned might work with using a usb mobile hotspot through the adapter?
waaw amazing video mate :)
Cheers my friend!
Hi Pete ! Totally love your videos . They are very informative and helpful and the best part is that you make sure you reply to all the comments . I just wanted to ask you if I can use the same set up for a Focusrite 2i2 solo interface ?
Kinan Hakkim hey there my friend! Sure can! However the Focusrite uses a little more more so I would suggest a USB3.0 powered hub with a little more power. Here’s some suggestions. ⬇️
ua-cam.com/video/az6yuV_vYiE/v-deo.html
Hi Pete . Sorry to bother you again . Wanted to ask you if I would still need a USB power hub if I’m recording onto an iPad PRO (2017) using Focusrite Scarlett solo.
Hey there. I haven’t tried this combination specifically, but all the Focusrite interfaces I have tried have required a powered hub with my iPad Air 2.
Allright thankyou so much 😊
Well, that’s bad ass!
🤘
I use the focusrite ipad dock which has instrument jacks, mic/xlr jack, phantom power, and zero latency monitoring jack. I absolutely love the thing!
I’ve not used one personally but have heard good things about these from a lot of different folks.
It’s actually called the Focusrite itrack dock. I got it in 2014 and still works great. I’ve used my Kaossilator and other drum machines with it as well as my midi keyboard. The dock has a usb port and powered monitor jacks too. You can’t beat it for the price!
Nice! I’m collating an iOS compatible interface guide and list at the moment so I’ll definitely make sure this one is included. 👍
yep, I had to mod so that it can be used with the 12.9" ipad pro, but still is in my current setup. Although it's pity I does not support all midi devices which work fine using a usb-lighting adapter. For example. Novation Control XL or some 25 keys midi keyboard do work with it but Arturia Beatstep (not pro) does not, it powers it up but no midi commands are coming thru. Although the pads work fine via lighting adapter.
What is the best powered hub in your opinion, since you use allot of different ones, thanks for uploading this!
Hi there. The one I've been using recently and currently recommend is the Tendak powered hub. Affordable but seems high quality and reliable. Here's a video where I take a look at it. ua-cam.com/video/iUJAVGHXnMs/v-deo.html. And here's where you can pick one up - amzn.to/2NbxSIP
Thanks again Pete lol I’m jus gonna subscribe because you help m to much lol 😂
Thanks my friend! Really appreciate it.
Wouldn’t it be possible to hear audio through the iPad speaker as a monitor?
Yes, this works with most setups.
Powered Hubs are so cool. How can you use a battery pack instead of mains? Great video but it would be better if you had a guitar plugged in and recorded a real melody to really impress us. I am not trying to make you feel bad, only to help you get more views. I understand how cool the powered hub is but someone who never used one won’t be as impressed unless they see a proper recorded trio. Nothing as good as the wow factor. Thanks and keep them coming.
I use a battery pack for my audio interface most of the time for just that reason. Haven’t tried with multiple devices form a battery pack but can’t see why it wouldn’t work through a hub using a battery. Will have to try it out!
Here’s how I use a battery pack with my interface.

And don’t ever worry about giving me feedback. I’ll take on any suggestions for content that people want to see, I do have a few videos where I actually play guitar and have a new video in the works all about guitar too. Appreciate you taking the time to comment.
Can you also put speaker into USB port for audio playback?
Good question? If it is a class compliant audio device then it should work.
ua-cam.com/video/K95B2-KfMak/v-deo.html
Can you hook up usb speakers so you can hear your beats while you play?
You can. They will become the audio output and sometimes the input. More info about USB devices and iOS is here - studiolivetoday.com/usb
thank you so much for making this! have a good day! =)
You're very welcome my friend. Thanks to you for taking the time to comment.
Is it possible to stream live to tiktok using the armed channels for live on the same ipad?
I don’t believe so sorry.
Just found your channel. Wow!! I’ve been looking for something on this subject. You’re using a powered USB HUB and I have my eye on the j5 USB-C triple display docking station. It’s also powered. It also has multiple ports. Any idea if that hub would work the same thing you did in this video? Difference is that I would use it with my focusrite interface. If you don’t think it would work… could you recommend a 2023 model that would work? Thanks!!
So, it probably would but only one display would be supported. I go with a simple approach like this these days. ua-cam.com/video/3Zyb1ISy3wk/v-deo.htmlsi=4TOIv52Df771R724

Good job! Pete...
Thank you for your kind words and taking the time to comment.
I noticed you don’t power your iPad through the USB adapter. Do you just wait until your iPads battery is low, disconnect the adapter then plug in a lightning charger?
This is a pretty old video. I recommend the genuine Apple Lightning to USB 3 adapter which can help your devices stay charged. studiolivetoday.com/usb
great!
👍😎
Hi Pete. I am from India and I love your videos. You are doing an awesome job by making such useful videos. 🤩 I want to connect microphone, beat buddy, and guitar to iPad. I have Steignberg UR22. I can only connect microphone and guitar to Steignberg UR22. I am searching for a way to connect beatbuddy so that I can record it separately in GarageBand. Do you know anyway to input 3 channels with UR22? I don’t have budget to buy UR44. 🤓
Hey there my friend. Thanks for your kind words!
Unfortunately there is no way to record a third channel independently. You can use a mixer which can combine all your input sources in to one stereo mix which you can capture through your UR22, however you then won’t be able to mix each instrument individually.
@@PeteJohnsMusic Thanks for replying Pete! 😊😊❤️ Before I used to record using zoom handheld recorder, but after seeing your videos I started using iPad for recording. Thanks a lot for making video on UR22.
Can I connect Behringer UMC404HD to iPad? Do you have any video on Behringer UMC4040HD?
I love this! And you 🙌
Cheers my friend! 👍🙏🤘
Can't see those red bottoms to record separately on my Ipad pro + zoom h8. So no double track... help ...thanks in advance
Does the Zoom have multiple inputs? Maybe try putting GarageBand in multi channel mode. Http://studiolivetoday.com/garageband
Is there a way to do this AND connect a monitor? I have an iPad 8th gen and I got the HDMI hub and an adapter for USB C, didn't work. Swapping for a lightning VGA hub, then attempting to use the USB/lightning hub to that, and seeing if it bypasses. Waiting for that to be delivered.
Unfortunately not. You can only do this with a USB-C iPad. ua-cam.com/video/kPvsEIUigik/v-deo.html
Apple is releasing the new ipadOs, do you think that there will be a way to use an usb hub like iPad Pro?
Hey there. I think power will still be the issue even with iPadOS, depending what you connect. Most iPads don’t have enough power to run most audio interfaces and even some microphones.
So do you have to have a line In on the back of the usb hub for this to work ?
Regards Geoff
Hey there. The audio is handled by whatever audio interface you have connected. The hub just handles USB. studiolivetoday.com/gear
Great to know, many thanks 👍👍👍
Very welcome! Thanks for your comment.
How about a USB WEBCAM.....live feed....?
Nope. There are specific apps and workarounds but in general, USB webcams can’t be used. ua-cam.com/video/40L9hVJmAoA/v-deo.html
Good and helpful video , everything has power but how do you power the iPad itself ..from the camera adapter?
Yes, if you have the Lightning to USB 3 adapter it has a lightning power port for your device.
Can I use the digital piano? Because I don’t have midi controller
Yes, you can record from a digital piano using an audio interface - studiolivetoday.com/usb
Can you live stream on Instagram with this set up?
Facebook and Instagram aren’t always super reliable with USB devices but it is possible.
Hello, Im trying to use my iPad as a drum machine, thing is I play guitar and I can’t start or play a track without taking my hands off my guitar, is there anyway I can use a keyboard pedal to play and stop the track? Using an irig? USB? I would love to know Please and thank you
Hey there. You can use a Bluetooth keyboard and use space bar to start/stop.
ua-cam.com/video/PJCGENM7zj0/v-deo.htmlsi=TwrOxJy09PeK4u_R
I am thinking that you should have connected the ipad to a powersource through the other connection in USB 3 camera connection kit. If you plug that port into the wall using the standard apple charger... your ipad will get charged as you are using it. I am doing that now as I type this. Otherwise the ipad won't charge. Note: When you first attach your camera connection kit has to do an automatic update before it allowed charging and connectivity at the same time.
Cheers Scott. Yeah, I've since done a heap more videos about using the Lightning to USB adapter(s) with your iPhone or iPad, including with USB hubs and power connections, and showing the update process etc - ua-cam.com/video/y2BomJoJwXU/v-deo.html
Appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment my friend.
Scott Harris Thank you for this comment. I was going mad for a bit trying to find an example of someone using a powered usb hub with a separate charger into the camera connection kit.... Thank you Scott, I hope you are well brother
@@Woji52 - doing fine Matt. Happy to have helped ... stay well.
So could I connect an irig hd2 (for recording guitar) and a usb condenser mic (for recording vocals) into the usb hub and use it to record vocals and guitar at the same time?
Unfortunately not. You can only have one input and one output audio device in iOS.
ua-cam.com/video/OzX6jbTm0Hc/v-deo.html
could you also connect headphones with this setup you built?
The iPad and iPhones I use have a headphone jack so I didn't need to, however you can use a device like the one I show in this video if you do need a headphone jack - ua-cam.com/video/MEpidfMLUqI/v-deo.html
Or simply use an audio interface like the Steinberg UR12 which has a headphone port built in - ua-cam.com/video/4l-v0iuJt7o/v-deo.html
Hi Pete, next tutorial can you show how to connect irigkey 37 pro midi using irig pro duo interface. Irig key only supply a cable connection from midi to usb terminal to ipad and imac. Question is how do i connect the cable if i recorded using imac desktop?
Hey there. I thought the iRig Keys had USB connections as well and could therefore just be connected via USB?
Hi Pete great tutorial thanks for the video. Can I just if you have tried using the USB Mic for your vocals and at the same time the audio interface for your instruments?
Hi there. Only one audio input and output device can be used at a time I’m afraid.
Does it get hot? I bought an iPad Pro hub that overheated, twice. Had to send them back.
The ones I recommend are pretty good and don’t hear you too much. studiolivetoday.com/usb
I have a Sabrent 4 port USB hub, which is powered. Anyhow, I plugged in my M-Audio Keystation 61 Mk3 into one of the USB ports, then a USB to lightning cable into my iPad. Well, the 2 LEDs on the keyboard lit up, meaning the device came on, but the iPad would not recognize it. So what I've done is: I just ordered a 9 Volt power supply from Amazon for it, except I MADE SURE THAT THE PLUG IS TIP/INSIDE POSITIVE, SLEEVE NEGATIVE. The one I have had is the reverse, no wonder it didn't work. When it comes, I can't wait to see if the keyboard will connect by USB-B to Lightning cable to the iPad and connect successfully to it for Garageband etc.
Nice one. Thanks for sharing and keen to know how it goes. 👍
Is there any way where I can record 2 usb microphones at the same time?
Hey there. It is technically possible but challenging, because each USB mic is its own audio interface. You can use software to sum two devices together and mix them down but it is not super simple. I would recommend a mixer or audio interface with XLR microphones instead. ua-cam.com/video/1VC1Dho7nh0/v-deo.html
Thank you for doing the video...I have one doubt..Can I connect a mouse to the usb hub...Does mouse support with ipad ?
Hi there. Unfortunately there is no support for a mouse in iOS at the moment, however there is mouse support in the new iPadOS, but only as an accessibility feature, meaning you won't get a full "mouse" experience. Take a look at this video for more information.
@@PeteJohnsMusic Thank you
Very welcome. 👍
Thanks much for posting this, I’m working on a similar setup for myself. I have an iPhone without headphone jack. Do you think it’d work to add a usb sound card to the usb hub?
Yes, there are a couple of options. You can use a simple device like the one I show in this video - ua-cam.com/video/MEpidfMLUqI/v-deo.html
Or what I recommend is something like a Strindberg UR12 or other audio interface which has high quality inputs and outputs.
Was looking to put 2 usb mics into a usb hub but it says the channel is already in use when I try to turn on second mic any ideas
Yeah. In iOS you can only have one input and output device at a time. You'll need a multi channel audio interface and XLR microphones to have more than one. ua-cam.com/video/l3xDq-bnwK8/v-deo.html
Thanks. just found your channel. Very helpful to fully demonstrate the Apple USB3 camera adapter....[using Ipad Air2 and Iphone 11]

cant you power interface through Lightning adapter directly?
Yes. And it works. Until it doesn’t. Powered hub is generally more reliable. studiolivetoday.com/usb
@@PeteJohnsMusic its absurd that someone designs and produces otg adapters that doesn't power usb port too but only the phone, very ridiculous and embarrassing

Does this hub work for iPhone too
Yup sure does! Http://studiolivetoday.com/gear
Cool video. The only problem I see is the iPad is not getting any power to charge it. Could you take a USB to lighing cable and plug that into a third USB port on your USB powered hub and also plug the other end into the USB dongle that is plugged into the iPad or in stead of the USB hub the wall outlet?
Hey there. I believe that I tried this and it didn’t work for some reason which is why I suggested you need a separate power bank or to plug I to a separate AC adapter. I’m revisiting this in some videos soon so I will have to give this a go.
Great video just what I was looking for 👍 could I plug 2 synths via usb eg modx and nord a1 and control them both with midi from Cubasis? What is the program your using is it garage band ? Thanks
Paul
Hey Paul. I’ve never actually tried two MIDI controller at once so not sure sorry? And yes, this is GarageBand iOS. studiolivetoday.com/garageband
Thanks for sharing this! Not ready to use it yet but it's great to know. I was sad to learn that my iPad (old) would not allow the download of GarageBand so I will need to upgrade. So I am using Amplitude on it but have Garageband on my two MacBooks. Learning both programs at the same time but I really like Garageband. Question?? Do you have the Band in a Box plugin for Garageband? It sounds very interesting... J
Hey there. I didn’t know there was a Band in a Box plugin actually? Sounds interesting.
Yes, GarageBand and other music creation on iPad/iPhone has really progressed in the last few years.
Great video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. 2 questions. My keyboard doesn’t have a usb output just midi & 1/4” jacks. I have a midi to usb, would that work the same? Also, noticed your SM57 looks different from what we have. Is that a new version of the microphone? Ours is a ball end. Just curious :). Thanks again for your great videos. BTW, love your voice both speaking (nice & clear) and your singing.
Thanks Judi for the kind words and always happy to answer questions, especially after a compliment. 😊
So, you can connect a MIDI keyboard to an iOS device using a MIDI to USB converter but it depends on a few factors, primarily if the MIDI to USB adapter supports class compliant USB MIDI. Basically, if you need a separate driver for the adapter to work with a PC or Mac, it won’t work in iOS. I have an old MIDI keyboard and an Edirol USB adapter and this unfortunately does not work for this reason.
Regarding the mic, I’m thinking perhaps you have a Shure SM-58? Traditionally the SM-57 is used for mic’ing instruments and therefore doesn’t have the grille and round end. Apart form that, the two mics are almost identical on the inside. In fact I’ve used the SM-57 for vocals, just behind a pop filter.
Ole this helps and thanks again for watching.
Thanks, such a helpful video. Is there a way to hear the midi as your playing it?
Hey there. If your iPhone or iPad had a headphone jack you can simply plug in there. If not, you will need a device like the one I show in this video which has a USB hub and headphone jack - ua-cam.com/video/wpu9EOTyur4/v-deo.html
Is there a way to connect iPhone/iPad to the PC monitor & control it from there with a mouse?
Will be using your awesome setup for my home studio btw
Alas no. You can use a lightning to HDMI adapter to send the screen to a monitor or HDMI capture card, and you can use a Bluetooth or USB keyboard, but iOS currently has no mouse support at all I’m afraid.
Pete Johns Yo Thanks a lot! I want to mix & master in GarageBand on a bigger screen rather than my iPhone’s. Definitely will give it a try.
No problem. I just bought an HDMI adapter so about to make a video about this. Stay tuned!
Just what I was looking for, how to use audio interface with midi keyboard that requires power. Thanks! Also can I use a daw besides garage band that’s compatible with pc so I can use the recordings from iPad with a better daw on my pc?
Hi there. Glad his was helpful for you. You can use your iPad recordings with a DAW on PC, but there’s no DAW that will support the GarageBand project file. What you would need to do is export the files as audio WAV files and import them in to your PC. I use the Reaper DAW to so this with my final mixes for mastering sometimes.
Now can I record my piano with my smartphone camera connecting my audio interface to my phone? (P.s Does it work also on android with a scarlett 2i2?)
Unfortunately I only cover iOS (iPAd and iPhone) - ua-cam.com/video/Sc-_LiuqiRA/v-deo.html
Hey!! Pete the keyboard sound you are getting is the midi controller sound or the keyboard or garage band sound when you play ??
I have everything plugged in exactly as you but I csn only use the sounds from my keyboard!!
Great video as usual!!
Hey there my friend. So, when sending MIDI data from a keyboard it will be triggering the sounds from GarageBand. Check out this video for more information and to see how I set things up. ua-cam.com/video/N1gHwJlap2s/v-deo.html
@@PeteJohnsMusic Thanks a lot my friend!!!
Very welcome.
The Focusrite solo is one Chanel device through this method is it likely to be that with other daw software. Don’t understand if it has 2 Imputs why you can only record one at a time.
Really? That is strange. The Steinberg UR12 has the exact same input setup as the solo but presents as two channels. Though it does just use the stereo left/right when connected to other apps, meaning if I record using the camera app woh the mic it puts it all on the left.
What if you wanted to add another instrument or two to this setup to record at the same time? Like a bass guitar and an electric drum machine...
Hey Angelo. What you would need then in an audio interface with multiple inputs to record all your instruments at once.
Here’s a video where I show the Stienberg UR 44 which can record up to 6 channels at once.

I have a power hub with 8 USB ports. How about recording drums like this?
