A Latin square commemorating an American in the French Quarter... the embodiment of the enigma that is New Orleans. Excellent tour as always! Your description of live oaks & how their shorter, wider shape makes them more hurricane proof has led me to the conclusion that I am also hurricane proof for this very reason!
These videos are actual anxiety relief. Thank you Andrew!! Can’t wait to join a tour in person.
We are glad that you are enjoying our channel, Lara. We also hope to show you around New Orleans when you get here. You can browse our tour selection here freetoursbyfoot.com/new-orleans-tours/. Bookmark us :).

We need another tour with Robi. A vampire tour or the spiritual churches perhaps
Working on it.
Great video Andrew!! It’s amazing to see all the history and culture in and around Jackson Square. As always you do a fantastic job of sharing this beautiful, historical area with all of us and that shows that you not only live there but you hold it close to your heart.
Thanks for watching, Joel! And thank you for the lovely comment. If you know of anyone else who might also enjoy these videos, please share us with them. We would really appreciate that! Thank you.
I have never been to New Orleans ... but I pray that I get there, most especially the French Quarter and Cemeteries, before the end of my days. I depend on informative and enjoyable videos, like this, to feed my hunger for this special city and to savor a for real beignet. So may it soon one day be. 💕

Love the tours Andrew! I'm interested to know if you ever do a theater/opera tour? New Orleans rivaled New York for a long time in both. Would love a walking tour of the ones still standing and not!
the cabaret acts were wild.
That's an interesting idea. We would have to reach out to several places. We'll consider it. Thanks.

Dude: NY gal here. Married to a Katrina 2005 survivor since 2008. St. Peter St - Pontalba now. Anyway - hubby Ric won the Stella Shout - the first one right after Katrina. They were arguing heatedly over whether or not to even HAVE the Tennessee Williams Festival that year..And of course the tradition stuck. Anyway, Ric took a deep breath, stood under the balconies..and screamed, "FEE--EEMA!!" He got a huge laugh, a round of wild applause and walked away with the trophy. I think the newspaper headline read TWIST AND SHOUT. BTW I have the honor to be "NOLA by marriage". Never been so proud. Lovin' my adopted city. Cheers from top floor St. Peter...
Hilarious!!!
another great tour, Andrew!
Our pleasure.
The Battle of New Orleans was a major holiday for the U.S. for many years. As a historian, it always interests me how perspectives change over time. Anyway, love the tours!
I have about 24 hours to spend in New Orleans next month in February. So, I will be spending some time here in Jackson Square. Sure hope the weather cooperates.
Beautiful park, we sat down there in Jackson Square while eating beignets from Cafe du Monde which is across the street, Nice video!!! Will be visiting NOLA again.

Please tell them directly :). We do it because we love it, though. Thanks for watching.

Hi Andrew! Love your videos! I have watched most of them and they are so informative and well done. I feel like I'm there with you. Do you all have any plans to do a virtual walking tour of Lafayette or Cajun country in general? I think it would be really fascinating to learn more about that part of LA.
I second that. It would be great to hear your take on the Evangeline Oak.
I give this a 3rd thumb up! Would love to see Lafayette, Breaux Bridge heart of cajun country and some history on the french in that area. Your tours are excellent. I lived in Lafayette for 2 yrs and toured NOLA on foot for myself every opportunity I would get to ride into N.O. with my hubby while he worked. I'm in love it this city! Thx Andrew. P.S. Have been sharing your tours with friends. Take care.
Thanks to all three of y'all, for the suggestion and for spreading the word! I'd love to get out there, although definitely in the hands of someone who knows that part of the state better than I do. Luckily Kayla knows it well! One of these days. (And you can bet they'll have to tear me away from making the whole trip about oak trees, Evangeline and otherwise).
Excellent, excellent brief tour. Lots of info packed into a short amount of time. You da man!

Thanks Andrew!
My pleasure!
Andrew, you knowledge of the areas history is amazing. My first trip to NOLA was in 2009. One night of sightseeing ended sitting in Jackson Square. There was an amazing musician with his guitar. We sat there for a couple hours listening to him play.....until we noticed a mother and her teenage children sitting off to the side each with a plastic bag of their belongings. We got the impression we were sitting on their benches/beds. It was so sad.
Look for the Jackson Square cats after the park closes but before cleanup
Correct. We forgot to mention them. Thanks for the addition.
Andrew, great tour as usual. The statue of Andrew Jackson in New Orleans that you mentioned....there is an identical statue of Jackson in front of the White House in Lafayette Square in DC.
A wonderful site! Huge on information, exploration, history, and human interest stories.

Another fabulous and interesting episodes. I think that I saw banana trees in Jackson Square before too?? Interesting about the Live oak trees too.
Those are plantains! As far as we know they look exactly like banana trees.
People watching - unparalleled value for money tourist attraction.
Skinny people = not American
Obese people = definitely American
Hi Andrew. Love the videos. Very informative. My husband and I enjoyed meeting you that day.
Hi Shannon. Thank you for watching and taking our tours. I've passed your comments on to Andrew. If you know of anyone else who might also enjoy these videos, please share us with them. We would really appreciate that! Thank you.
Did you know there are four identical statues like the one in Jackson square? Of course the one in New Orleans, one in Washington DC, one in Jacksonville, FL, and one at the Tennessee state capitol in Nashville, which is not far from The Hermitage which was Andrew Jackson's home. Love your videos. We've been coming down to New Orleans for many years now so we aren't tourists anymore. But i love learning about more of the history of your city. Come visit Nashville sometime if you haven't yet.

Hey handsome Andrew ❤️😘
That bird on Jackson's head is taking it all in too. He's not moving.
I always liked the horse statue.
I don't think Andrew mentioned this but there is a copy of this statue in Lafayette Square next to the White House.
Me and a buddy have a tour of the french quarter coming up, really looking forward to it.
It better be with us, Jason :)
@@FreeToursbyFootHQ it absolutely is, see ya on the 20th of this month.
I would love to see you do a tour of Natchitoches. Your videos are all excellent and educational.
We'll put this into consideration. Thanks for watching.
Perfect💯🎯🏆😻👏....I'm loving seeing more people out and about and more things opening up on your video. Broke my heart to see some of the earlier ones from this year with no people on the streets and businesses closed and/or boarded up....curse this pandemic!!!...also love the opening drone footage of the square. So beautiful on my TV!!! Was Jason responsible for that?...the theatre mentioned in this one , is that where Jason works/does the lighting? Great job EVERYONE!!!🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄
You got this! Yes, that's James's theater. I don't think James made the drone footage for this video but that's a rare exception.
@@FreeToursbyFootHQ oops 😬 except I got JAMES' name wrong! Sorry James....
Another great video! Any thoughts about videos on Cajun country and/or cuisine?
Yes. We have thought about a few other road trips including Cajun Country. One of our guides is from that part of the state and we are just waiting till we can coordinate everyone's schedule.
Andrew, I love your videos but can't pay with card option (first one). It keeps telling me to reenter info. Second option I don't feel secure with. Maybe I'll tour with you in person. You and the Creole woman's food tour of a few years ago was incredible! Thank you.

Such a interesting European style city. that's one of the things what make that city so great! so much character. Plus awesome culture, Not your average city at all. Charleston SC and Savannah Georgia is the same way. St. Augustine Florida is the same way

I'm orig. from Alabama Gulfcoast, but live in Pittsburgh for now
You should have a channel for Boston tours too!
We are trying. Our main guide in Boston, Brian, is not camera savvy :)
We do have channels in Washington, DC, NYC, and London.
Thanks Andrew, I still owe you a tip😇🌻🐈🌲🐾🚒🌶🥑🔥🐝🐕💙🐕
As a long-time Nola aficionado who has lived here for five years, I agree that Cafe du Monde's coffee is overrated. I prefer Spitfire, PJ's, and CC's coffee shops. (I can't comment on the beignets since I tend to do low carb, however.)
If you haven’t already, please cover the fleur-de-lis, which has become a symbol of New Orleans (to the point of being used by your NFL team), but it was also used as a punishment branding on slaves who either escaped or took necessary food. It seems VERY dark to see that symbol flourish around the city. Can we grapple with that in a video, please?
Interesting topic. We will pass this along for consideration. Thank you for subscribing and we hope that you enjoyed this video of Jackson Square.
@@FreeToursbyFootHQ thank you! And I surely did!
Viva la France
Shooting on bourbon Street not good for business! Great video.
Scott from Kentucky
There is always a shooting on Bourbon street.
Certainly not something to advertise. Glad you enjoyed this video, Scott. Thanks again for watching.
I would have guessed Mahalia Jackson, I was wrong.
Is the statute still there?
Stonewall Jackson was Thomas Jackson, not Andrew lol.
U live in New Orleans Andrew?
Yes.
Amazing video and tour again Andrew, thank you. Jackson square is a lovely place to visit with amazing spots to visit around. Andrew Jackson was a horrible man in a horrible time of America. Hope someday humanity will learn from atrocities of the past.
Stonewall Jackson? 🤔
You caught it. That was definitely a slip of the tongue.
I’m sure way too many people think Stonewall when seeing the statue. Oh well.
Andrew has a dump truck 👀😂 Sorry. I had to.
Glad that you enjoyed the video. If you haven't already done so, hopefully, you can check out our other virtual tours of New Orleans ua-cam.com/play/PLpNEdLF6RWV3oDPK7SD9GOttlhvaGBsh2.html.There is more of Andrew where this came from :).
That is not “Stone Wall” Jackson. Thomas “Stone Wall” Jackson was a Confederate General. This was General Andrew Jackson who would later become President.
president van buren enforced the indian removal act of 1830.
the news is showing you're getting hit very hard with his covid it is that true
Dont get your palms read. They are never right. The "Caricature" artists are great. Keep your wallet hidden and purses held tight. Stay in a group. These brothers are gettin rough.
It is a beautiful space a shame it is dedicated to a criminal who imo murdered thousands. I hope someday that the public conscious will have it removed, like others for much the same reason. No one who commits atrocious crimes should be glorified.
You obviously do not understand history.
@@jamesr1703 I do understand history. I also know that my people where forced marched some 2,000 miles in winter. Poor to no provisions or shelter. All they had was the clothes on their back and what little they could carry. They where farmers,Merchants,Tradesmen and Educators. 4,000 died of exposure, starvation and illness. This was done by President Andrew Jackson, despite The Supreme Courts ruling. Sounds like a criminal act to me.
@@cat3rgrl917
Cajuns had their expulsion too
Many ppl had hardships around the world
Can't erase the pass.
We can learn from it make it better.
@@cajunlady4893 Sadly this is true. Is there a statue to the man who did this? No I found several statues depicting the expulsion, none of Charles Lawrence who was the architect. Nor did he act despite an order to cease and desist from The U.S. Supreme Court while an acting President. If statues of confederate generals are remove due to racism so should Jackson.
Hi Cat3r Grl
I admire your knowledge on history.
God knows what went on He knows the hearts and thoughts of men. He will make things right.
I am not going to dwell on the pass.
Our ancestors did suffer. And we were set free.
I pray freedom remains along with peace and harmony with each other and not let evil reign no more.
It all begins with self.
Am willing to forgive and move on to make this generation and future generations live in peace.
I am trying.
I am not perfect
But I do want love and peace with everyone no matter their race or belief or any thing else that cause strife and wars
I hope to reach my goal asap
I reach out to you in peace and love.
I see you like cats.
My BF really likes cats.
He rescues them and cares for them.
Errrrr Chinese flying horses have the weight on ONE leg. And are like 200 AD.
Thanks Andrew!
Our pleasure as usual.
