Become an explorer. It can be boring at times with all the scanning but the pay off is huge. High risk though having to go into nullsec. I can bring in a few billion a week easily. I've been playing Eve since 2004 and making isk has never been easier.

before the patch, we used to use orca with a couple of mining ships in belts, for holding ore and using mining drones, plus salvager platform. kept mack and hulks in belt, while orca would take ore in and haul to station.

Much like in real life society requires those that don’t min max to exist in order to fill the lesser positions in society. Much in the same way eve requires miners and manufacturing in order to flourish. As a miner new bro I know I could be making millions of isk exploring, but I’d much rather make relaxed casual low level isk being a mining bro and being part of the beckrock of the games economy because that’s what brings me happiness in the game, and at the end of the day games are meant to be played to be enjoyed
I still have the first orca I ever built. I don't think it has left the dock in 2 years. every single private corp I join the people just leave and the orca never gets used. maybe now it will. it is hard to find corps where the people are engaging with other members.
Just watched this video and hauled ass to Amarr to buy a refit for my Orca and I am trying it out right now, so far it is working as intended, just need to fit a salvager to deal with the wrecks. Also got the advanced drone skills training up as well.
You could also throw on some small RR shields into the highs. Small are better here for the quicker cycle. Rats are less likely to target mining drones. But it does happen and they are low of HP. Since you do not need to keep the lock on the asteroids once the drones have been ordered to mine. You can switch to locking up each of the mining drones to be prepared if they start taking damage.
I had high hopes for this expansion when they had the dev blog come out. After logging in and seeing bug after bug still in game that were reported multiple times on SISI really killed any enthusiasm for it. Be back in a frew months.
Lol they ALWAYS have bugs everytime they launch a new expansion. I don't know why, maybe they don't do enough testing, maybe they are pressured to get the expansion out the door. But it's not new to EVE. I know and agree it's frustrating as fuck at times, but you have to learn how to put up with it. Edit: Playing EVE off and on over 10 years. i loved mining and PVE , longest i spent mining with 2 chars was 14 hrs , 3 systems stripped bare , i needed a break from nullsec , but i did love nullsec as well. orca set up for fleet mining and hulk, clones for both orca pilot and hulk pilot , the orca pilot was maxed in fleet skills and orca skills , hulk pilot was maxed in all min ing skills( hulk pilot was also maxed on Proteus skills :) ),always kept a PVP proteus in bay for assholes, but then the assholes complained , and then you couldn`t change ships when agressed , this was pretty well the end of eve for me , wasn`t paying 360 dollars a year to have assholes interfere with me looking for easy shit, 6 years straight i played eve .
You got me thinking of trying the Porpoise like this, and man....it's just horrible, but I will use it as a cheaper fleet booster than my Orca. I use my Orca more for storage and hauling with a speed fit.
Finally some bigger ships than barges to have fun mining, I will definitely come back this christmas, to dust off my Mackinaw and try the orca and engineering complex :)
Filling the EM gap is not a really wise choice! To mine in high-sec you need to focus on therm/kine resists to prevent ganks from catalysts and taloses (especially for an Orca) which are the most used ships to gank!
If the scout or bumper scans you, (which a lot do for the bigger targets), they will tell us to fit against your weakness. Using stealth bombers or thrashers is common. Always fill the gaps, but it may be wise to make the strongest point therm/kin, But only just a tad higher.
When your dealing with Exhumers (t2 Barges) and Sub caps like the Orca, using passive modules are not as good as using sub active hardeners. The capacitor is not being used much, and is rather large, so best to use active resists. (Cycle your strip miners, and resists by about 5-10 seconds apart, so they don't put your empty your cap if they all hit at once. End of the day, even if you do not fit tank, if you are at your keyboard, and actively watching local and dscan, you will be fine. Flury Not wise to use expensive modules on a mining ship, makes it a lot more worthwhile to target you.
I'm really happy to see updates to mining appearing. My numbers will be a little off due to the updates, but if I'm doing this right, the orca fit you have in this video should be about 12.8M per hour yield and approx 37.5M per fill. I'll need to log in to see how the changes affect my mining. I do have one question though, I saw that your mining drone IIs were giving you a yield of about 250 m3 each, is that adjusted from your rigs? If so, what is the new base yield?

The change just made it more viable to compete with other mining ships and give it something else other than logistics.
my orca has always been in the belt. I dump into enormous freight containers for the freighter to pick up. warping off the exhumers everytime the ore hold is full seems like a massive waste of time.
Im playing with 5 laptops with 5 diffrent connections and all omega so total i have 5 omega clones characters and 5 alpha clones, i just started to play less than 1 month and now i got 17 billions ISK. Im using 5 orcas 25 mining drones and 5 alpha clones using 5 Gnosis full attack that protecting my orcas.
I might actually start playing again. I have been a maxed out miner but it started to take too much of my time. This looks like I can AFK mine again, would be even better with Ice mining. Thanks.

With the rework for the new patch, Orca's have a a EHP that sits around 400k-550k EHP depending on the fitting, It takes a bit of organization and resources to take the space whales down now.
Before taking a 2 1/2 year hiatus (My gaming rig crapped out, and I recently had the funds for a new one), I trained my main character on an Orca. I might try this now that I am a Free Agent (Corp bumped me not long after the rig crapped out) once more.
All it takes is 2 or 3 assholes with stealth bombers to spare to take an Orca out, seeing as I'm one of those assholes and a miner from time to time and would definitely go for that KM I have to assume their are lots like me.
dude every max skilled Hulk does more isk/hr than a orca. Its maybe okay for afk miners and yes it has more tank but not for peoples there doing efficient mining. Basically mining is not well paying out except of the rorqual as long as u uses one account only. After the todays Nerf of the rorqual its still mine the amount of ruffly 13-15 Hulks if fitted with ICt2. So the moste efficent way of mining without rorqual is this : With Orca Pilot in corp who is very active. Concord punishes! for example : in a 0.5 system it takes 19 seconds until concord is there and kills the ganker, so u should have at least 25k ehp on ur ship to deal with a ganker who runs 1000dps, if u only have 15.000 ehp u will be dead before concord kills him ^^. and don´t forget concord needs time to to kill the ganker. The most common ship to gank low-medium tank miners is the catalyst wich runs usually on 600-800 dps. use google use sheets don´t do mining only, do a bit pvp at least to understand how u will be ganket and so on
Yeah, my heart bleeds for you.... mining was ridiculously lucrative considering all the macro-scripted mining and afk mining going on. With the new update, people might actually play eve instead of being brain-dead.
Have you ever mined? There is nothing to "play". Its just shooting immobile rocks. Its so boring, you become brain-dead if you try to do it activly. Only AFK mining is bearable, but that got a huge nerf with the fleet boost changes. So instead of making mining more interesting or increasing the ISK/h (to make it worth the effort), CCP has made it even more tedious.
Yes I have. I find it relaxing, with just enough edge keeping my eye on my scanners to let me have a decent time. I don't like doing other things when I mine except maybe look at fits, read chat, or check the market. However, that is my point. I find it to be a form of gameplay I enjoy. You do not. And no one is saying you have to. But you don't get to decide for anyone else. They can decide for themselves and no matter what you think, it is still a part of gameplay.
Meanwhile, my Orca has been sitting in a low-sec station for the past year because I haven't been able to get it out safely and I didn't log in for 6 months. Now I'm stuck with flying cruisers :(
1. can you still give boosts in fleet without having to be in the same corp? I'd be in highsec and I'd be trying to avoid war dec on the orca being in the default npc corp but boosting my barge alts. and on that note. 2. If your boosting a procurer with the orca and the procurer is getting ganked, can the orca attack the ganker without getting killed by concord ? and does being in the same Corp matter? thanks
1. yes, all you need for boosts is to be in the same fleet. 2. the gankers go suspect so you can attack them but i doubt you'll be faster than Concord.

and i could barely get any mining done due to some corps doing the "mining licence" scam where they gank cause you're mining there. 50mil per week + 40% of your haul per trip is this one corps going rate and it's none negotiable with them war decking corps that protect their fleets cause they are "stealing legally owned resources".

It's not that mining is bad, its just high sec mining is bad. With the change, a rorqual out in null is generating 200m isk an hour afk mining where as you'll be lucky to get that in a weekend of high sec mining tri boxing exhumers.
Sorry delonewolf, that Orca fit is horrible. Orca's are not meant for mining solo. You are basically a 1-4bil target for gankers. I would get a bunch of guys, for that purpose. This just encourages people to AFK, which is not what people want in EVE. If you want to mine in High sec, please use a tanked ship, Skiff or Procurer, fitted with resist modules. They are better in almost every way. Have a look in the fleet finder, and ask around in the mining channel.
BioVenom Technologies I think you've missed an update buddy. Orca's are now dope mining ships also capable of pushing 800dps for clearing rats. Boosts got changed so the odds of there being free boost fleets up are alot less because you have to activate a module that consumes a charge
You are still paying 2bil+ for a ship that doesn't improve much upon the skiffs. Makes you attractive to gankers, when flying an orca. But like I said, the main point this fit will make people AFK more often, which is what we do not want in EVE.
My Orca costs about 1.5b and I would honestly love to see a couple catalysts try to gank me, so that I can tell them how much it tickles as they get concordokken'd.
It wont be a couple of catalysts, it will be 15+ OR a few talos's and a bunch of brutix's, then maybe a catalyst or too to try nab the pod. But it is worth it to get a the big kill, plus the baby rage. If you want to take the risk, that is fine, but I am against silly fits that encourage more afk players. It is just not worth it.
No, you can still be killed in any sec rating. If you're getting blapped, the rating wont matter, Concord can't predict the future and prevent a ganker from one shoting you.

The funny thing is the most eve kiddies judge mining. But without the mining they couldn't do anything. if you want an easy time selling the ore go to a system close to trade hubs, my old home system of yona is great for that. if you want access to other space, in Dital you're right next to 00 and lowsec. then start mining in the venture and find out if it's for you.
dump the extenders and more resists -- use rigs for extenders and a shield burst (or two) to boost ur shields in the event of a gank + overheat hardeners. You can get over one million EHP if you do it right and nobody (aside wartargets) is going to care enough or bother to lay out that kind of ISK/firepower over a lone orca mining versus more worthwhile and easier to kill freighters loaded with billions in loot. Gankers would lose their paitence trying to formup the numbers/ships to kill something like that when theres lines of freighters rolling down the line elsewhere that requires less effort. Your a target with that current fit though and it's a griefer magnet - even more so when your on youtube. LSE's on a orca are kind of like sticking 200mm plates on a Abaddon. It's a enormous waste of a mid slot and some would kill you just because of that alone and they would think its hilarious when they share the killmail with friends.
With the ascension, orca have mining yield of an exhumer. Also it has large ore hold (less trips to station) and large amount of ehp (it's hard to suicide gank it in high sec).
bardghost I want personal gain. If I want to gain the most for myself because I'm greedy is the un-boosted exhumed or orca the way to go (I'm thinking orca as less likely to loss isk via banking)
Nick Puttock I haven't done the exact figures but I expect in low numbers it would be better to have just exhumers to make the ISK. However once increasing ship numbers (Possibly 3+) then you get to a point where the orca mines a fair deal, and the boosts on the exhumers make up for the rest of the missing exhumer. Once you hit that point where there is very little ISK/H difference then it goes more down to specific advantages like ore hold.
Mining will never be profitable untill all the mining bots are gone. when there is a huge shortage of ships and minerals the game might be fun. As it is mining is ridiculous

Great vid! Having a tractor beam is helpful to salvage rat wrecks. That way you don't have to deploy/undeploy your MTU whenever you move.

Seems similar to what I worked out (13 mil per hour)
How did he manage to get the drone mining amount up that high? The best I can calculate is 103.98m3 per drone with perfect skills. What am I missing?
There are a couple of rigs that can do it, But it obviously trades off with more tank.

my orca has always been in the belt. I dump into enormous freight containers for the freighter to pick up. warping off the exhumers everytime the ore hold is full seems like a massive waste of time.
Im playing with 5 laptops with 5 diffrent connections and all omega so total i have 5 omega clones characters and 5 alpha clones, i just started to play less than 1 month and now i got 17 billions ISK. Im using 5 orcas 25 mining drones and 5 alpha clones using 5 Gnosis full attack that protecting my orcas.
I might actually start playing again. I have been a maxed out miner but it started to take too much of my time. This looks like I can AFK mine again, would be even better with Ice mining. Thanks.
I'm not entirely up-to-date regarding the latest expansion, but isn't a orca just asking to be ganked!? (never had the ambition before to train skills to fly one)

With the rework for the new patch, Orca's have a a EHP that sits around 400k-550k EHP depending on the fitting, It takes a bit of organization and resources to take the space whales down now.

Before taking a 2 1/2 year hiatus (My gaming rig crapped out, and I recently had the funds for a new one), I trained my main character on an Orca. I might try this now that I am a Free Agent (Corp bumped me not long after the rig crapped out) once more.
All it takes is 2 or 3 assholes with stealth bombers to spare to take an Orca out, seeing as I'm one of those assholes and a miner from time to time and would definitely go for that KM I have to assume their are lots like me.
dude every max skilled Hulk does more isk/hr than a orca. Its maybe okay for afk miners and yes it has more tank but not for peoples there doing efficient mining. Basically mining is not well paying out except of the rorqual as long as u uses one account only. After the todays Nerf of the rorqual its still mine the amount of ruffly 13-15 Hulks if fitted with ICt2. So the moste efficent way of mining without rorqual is this :
With Orca Pilot in corp who is very active.
Multi Boxing in highsec
At least 3 Hulks ( 30.000.000 to 50.000.000 ISK an hr each ) probably less coursed by time wasting for hauling once the orca is full or once ur hulk is full

Hulk: Max yield fitting only if Orca is fitted with Remote Shield boosters and fleet shield boosting, and don´t take the standard fittings, play around with Implants and rigs, sometimes it is a good idea to have a Webber on one of the hulks to get the Orca faster out of the belt in emergency AND DON'T TELL ANYONE IF U USE ORE STRIP MINERS U MORONS :P If u have a decent system u may be still able to manage 5 t2 drones with every Hulk, bot once u controll 5 accounts at once in highsec i dont think u still have time for them

Non stop mining, Orca is always in Belt, Exhumer are never sitting afk or defenseless in Belt u getting max mining yiel out of ur time course ur strip miners never shut down until u move to the next belt
I play since 2008 and in all these years i have only lost 1 mackinaw and that one not even in a belt i was moving from one place to another cross low sec and was stupid enough to get catched in a gate camp . So if u fly with a mining ob a single ganker wont hurt ya, just have shield boost on the ship he is attacking and keep mining, if he comes back with a hauler dock with the char who has the kill right on him change the ship and blow him up or have at least a drake in the ship hangar of the orca than u are not even have to dock. Mine in systems with low traffic, if very fast 30-40 chars enter the system or the amount of player in system is steady lifting higher than normal than there are more than likely after ur orca, if a nice and very friendly noob parks straight near ur orca and talks nonsense may send a ship and check the neighbor systems, there is a high chance that he will be the warp in. Bla bla blub Don´t mine AFK don´t use bots and have a look at the local and u will be fine even with solo mining.
Know the game mechanics!!! Concord does not Protect! Concord punishes! for example : in a 0.5 system it takes 19 seconds until concord is there and kills the ganker, so u should have at least 25k ehp on ur ship to deal with a ganker who runs 1000dps, if u only have 15.000 ehp u will be dead before concord kills him ^^. and don´t forget concord needs time to to kill the ganker. The most common ship to gank low-medium tank miners is the catalyst wich runs usually on 600-800 dps. use google use sheets don´t do mining only, do a bit pvp at least to understand how u will be ganket and so on

Dude,just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not part of the game. Mining is part of EVE and doing it in game IS playing EVE.
Have you ever mined? There is nothing to "play". Its just shooting immobile rocks. Its so boring, you become brain-dead if you try to do it activly. Only AFK mining is bearable, but that got a huge nerf with the fleet boost changes.
So instead of making mining more interesting or increasing the ISK/h (to make it worth the effort), CCP has made it even more tedious.
Yes I have. I find it relaxing, with just enough edge keeping my eye on my scanners to let me have a decent time. I don't like doing other things when I mine except maybe look at fits, read chat, or check the market. However, that is my point. I find it to be a form of gameplay I enjoy. You do not. And no one is saying you have to. But you don't get to decide for anyone else. They can decide for themselves and no matter what you think, it is still a part of gameplay.

1. can you still give boosts in fleet without having to be in the same corp? I'd be in highsec and I'd be trying to avoid war dec on the orca being in the default npc corp but boosting my barge alts.

2. If your boosting a procurer with the orca and the procurer is getting ganked, can the orca attack the ganker without getting killed by concord ? and does being in the same Corp matter?

1. yes, all you need for boosts is to be in the same fleet.
2. the gankers go suspect so you can attack them but i doubt you'll be faster than Concord.

and i could barely get any mining done due to some corps doing the "mining licence" scam where they gank cause you're mining there. 50mil per week + 40% of your haul per trip is this one corps going rate and it's none negotiable with them war decking corps that protect their fleets cause they are "stealing legally owned resources".

I enjoy mining on my mackinaw more+ Discovery project with 95% accuracy gives me a LOT isk/h. This orca looks ... not so easy to solo.
What is a lot isk in your book? Numbers, numbers, numbers. Anything below 100 mil/hour /account is losing significant amounts of ISK/hour in my book.

For doing what's shown in the video you will have to dedicate 1 year of your life to train skills and get the basics . But mining is really cool to relax after hard working day. Take care.

It's not that mining is bad, its just high sec mining is bad. With the change, a rorqual out in null is generating 200m isk an hour afk mining where as you'll be lucky to get that in a weekend of high sec mining tri boxing exhumers.

definitely better to have a few boosted hulks, the base yield is higher and you can boost them.
1 Orca boosting as many barges as you can fit within the boost range, 30km. If you need to cover more area you will need another Orca.

Sorry delonewolf, that Orca fit is horrible. Orca's are not meant for mining solo. You are basically a 1-4bil target for gankers.
I would get a bunch of guys, for that purpose. This just encourages people to AFK, which is not what people want in EVE.
If you want to mine in High sec, please use a tanked ship, Skiff or Procurer, fitted with resist modules. They are better in almost every way. If fit for tank, even if a group of gankers come, you will most likely survive.

And please remember to be at your keyboards watching local, dscanning often etc. Another good tip is to stagger the cycles of the hardeners, as your strip miners will take you to half cap at least, and could stop them if they were just drained by 3 shield cycles. If you fit appropriately, and are active, you can take this fit to low sec, and be safe too.
Also, a lot of the time, you can find a random mining fleet with free boosts.
Have a look in the fleet finder, and ask around in the mining channel.
BioVenom Technologies I think you've missed an update buddy. Orca's are now dope mining ships also capable of pushing 800dps for clearing rats. Boosts got changed so the odds of there being free boost fleets up are alot less because you have to activate a module that consumes a charge
You are still paying 2bil+ for a ship that doesn't improve much upon the skiffs.
Makes you attractive to gankers, when flying an orca. But like I said, the main point this fit will make people AFK more often, which is what we do not want in EVE.

My Orca costs about 1.5b and I would honestly love to see a couple catalysts try to gank me, so that I can tell them how much it tickles as they get concordokken'd.
It wont be a couple of catalysts, it will be 15+ OR a few talos's and a bunch of brutix's, then maybe a catalyst or too to try nab the pod.
But it is worth it to get a the big kill, plus the baby rage.
If you want to take the risk, that is fine, but I am against silly fits that encourage more afk players.
It is just not worth it.

No, you can still be killed in any sec rating. If you're getting blapped, the rating wont matter, Concord can't predict the future and prevent a ganker from one shoting you.

if you want an easy time selling the ore go to a system close to trade hubs, my old home system of yona is great for that. if you want access to other space, in Dital you're right next to 00 and lowsec. then start mining in the venture and find out if it's for you.

dump the extenders and more resists -- use rigs for extenders and a shield burst (or two) to boost ur shields in the event of a gank + overheat hardeners. You can get over one million EHP if you do it right and nobody (aside wartargets) is going to care enough or bother to lay out that kind of ISK/firepower over a lone orca mining versus more worthwhile and easier to kill freighters loaded with billions in loot. Gankers would lose their paitence trying to formup the numbers/ships to kill something like that when theres lines of freighters rolling down the line elsewhere that requires less effort.
Your a target with that current fit though and it's a griefer magnet - even more so when your on youtube. LSE's on a orca are kind of like sticking 200mm plates on a Abaddon. It's a enormous waste of a mid slot and some would kill you just because of that alone and they would think its hilarious when they share the killmail with friends.

With the ascension, orca have mining yield of an exhumer. Also it has large ore hold (less trips to station) and large amount of ehp (it's hard to suicide gank it in high sec).

it's a bit lower in yield but you get much more hp and a 180.000m³ ore hold.
And not forgetting the boosts that the orca will give to the rest of the exhumers.

Nick Puttock I haven't done the exact figures but I expect in low numbers it would be better to have just exhumers to make the ISK. However once increasing ship numbers (Possibly 3+) then you get to a point where the orca mines a fair deal, and the boosts on the exhumers make up for the rest of the missing exhumer.
Once you hit that point where there is very little ISK/H difference then it goes more down to specific advantages like ore hold.
Do 'the figures'. Find out what mines the most. Make a nice graph.
Mining will never be profitable untill all the mining bots are gone. when there is a huge shortage of ships and minerals the game might be fun. As it is mining is ridiculous
