To give an idea about the tank, I can put a X-Large shield booster on mine and let it run for a little less than 1 minute, which can only be dreamed by barges and exhumers.

Man Eve is big. I never even knew about this ship or the orca for mining. I went from wee, multi-purpose ships to Retriever and then Skiff... I did not see it because it wasn't listed under mining barges... I like solo and am trained for mining barges II and strip miners II and asteroid ore and moon ore crystal II but even still there is the drag of the ore capacity being still lower in a skiff, and the porpoise has surprising tank... I now can think about losing a porpoise in low sec instead of a skiff if nothing else! I do like my strip miner lasers fun-wise. I did not know about augmented drones .... learn learn...

I have both the orca and porpoise and like them both, must admit I’m more comfortable in my porpoise. It has a decent hold and is quick off grid if needed.
two large shield extenders2, two invuls2 and the dcu2 should get you upto 76k ehp. the advantage of the porpoise is that is a lot cheaper - particular in terms of tech2 mining drone rigs.
I am a hi sec miner and I am planning on trying out a porpoise instead of my retriever I have now. I don't have the skills for T2 mining laser upgrades or T2 crystals yet anyway so my retriever yield isn't that good. What attracts me to the porpoise is the huge ore hold so less flight time, no crystals to worry about switching all the time, shorter cycle times on the drones so less wasted cycles at the end of life of asteroids (3min is a lot of wasted time to only get very small amount of ore), and i can put individual drone on each asteroid and be more afk.

Not really. It's not about shooting you down in one hit, it's about shooting you down within the 5-20 second timespan (depending on system security) CONCORD arrives. And you underestimate how cheap a fleet of Catalysts are.

ok so is ties a procurer in t1 , but i'm getting 1258.8 per min a cycle with T1 stripper in a retriever (1406m3 per 162. my math may not be right but im also not adding in drones from the barge , and any exhumers even with t1 strippers will smoke it. Hmmm, in Pyfa i see now it is like 846 m³/minute (that's with more expensive drones than yours, 'Augumented'), idk where are those 250m3 you have extra. That's on a supposedly All 5 skill lvl character. can you tell me more details about how skills affect the mining amount and if any drone control modules affect this as well?
@Dave Dangleberry you can see which Rocks have lots of ore. If you don't have a scanner you'll likely mine rock with very little ore and have to switch a lot.
we need some high end sentry mining drones. if we can mine @22km with bonuses, why cant a sentry drone do it? it would give something else to train and allow orcas to mine more efficiently. maybe its only allowed in orcas. the rorqual gets excavators, throw the orca a bone.
after the changes of the size to the rock i tryed to fit drone navi computer to speed up my drones a bit and it gave me around 3-5 more harvesting cycles from my drones. what is the max mining boost what a porp can give with max boosting sjills without the forman link implant? it is woth to take the time to train Mining Director and Industrail Commanship to 5?
My solo porpoise is a lot different: 4 compact neuts 1 10mn compact afterburner 2 limited adaptive invulnerability field 1 X-large ancillary shield booster 1 DCU T2 1 reactor unit 2 tech 2 mining drone augmentor 1 tech 1 mining drone augmentor Very tight fit, but at level 3 and proper skills you will have a reliable mining porpoise with great tank and great yield. Edit: I took a glance at the old girl and realized at lv4, i can just barely get DCU in there. :P
I just started this game and wanted to get into gas mining. The problem is the damn 25m skillbook. I also thought choosing the name "FREE SCAMS" would be novel and funny. I quickly learned eve is full of people lacking a sense of humor. No idea how I will even be able to get omega and fly a porpoise at this rate.
If you really want the skillbook, you can get it in a day of afk 0.5 mining in a venture. Once you have it, get some fullerite gas in wormholes, up to 1 mil/minute depending on the gas.
When the criminals come to kill us in HS, I stopped playing for a while. There are so many tools for criminals, but not so much to defend ourselves. We are defendless while jumping through a gate, having a warp disruptor, and seeing our ship exploding. Not so funny indeed.
roland rayar stop using the auto pilok. Stop being afk. doing those two things will stop 99% of the high sec ganks. To stop the last 1%, move to a wormhole or null sec.
General Thade Porpoise aligns faster, is approximately 1/10 the cost, and provides nearly the same boosts as the Orca. The Porpoise is a great ship for null.
Learning how to fly the Orca isn't that hard part. Its buying the ship (was around 8-900 million when I bought mine), fitting the ship (including the drones) and then buying/making the Augmented Mining drones (I blinged out my Orca and it cost me around 2.2 billion in total..everything included). When it was all said and done it cost me around 70 million per AM drone so theres now around 350 million (5 drones out) floating around in space. You CAN'T afk with this ship/setup because if you do you will lose a lot in drones and potentially the ship. Great vid. Lots of information.
In your HS on the Purpoise I'd add at least one tractor beam and one salvager because you're going to get attacked by rats (hopefully thats all you get attacked by) and it may not be much at first to loot/salvage the rats but it adds up. Even if you don't sell the loot you get you can reprocess the loot and get minerals (just find a station/citadel that has high reprocessing % and you'll get even more) for use/selling purpose(s) later on.

well you can rat to in an mining Orca/Porpoise (it does cut into yield a bit) but one combat drone normaly does short work with higsec rats

I can only fit two mining drones and because of the bandwith fly one of them. I'm guessing he can fly five mining drones because of the rigs?

if you are afk with 5 mining drones and npcs spawn. wont you die? would you need to use 3 mining drones and 2 combat drones? or

at full skills the difference with the orca is 5%, it's pretty good imo.

With 0 mining drone bonuses, which means the drones have a completely negligible effect on m3 per minute
