@@AlldatJazz-rw9wy Yeah 25 mil would be more than a fair offer with the Warriors. He didn't play for 2 and a half years on a max. Yet he wants another long-term max while not being anywhere near the same guy.
Iggy played less than 2 full seasons over his last 4 years. He retired at 39 years old. They making it out to seem like Iggy was still in his prime taking a backseat. He could barely even get on the court at the end of his career.
Part of the reason the Warriors won 3 chips is because Iguodala helped keep the second unit competitive. I'm not sure why he is arguing that decision especially when a case can be made his career was extended for 4 seasons because of his perceived veteran leadership. Then Melo is talking as if there were teams looking to give him a payday after his time with the Knicks. These stars have to understand that it is very rare for teams to build around players over age 30. You may still be getting 20-25 PPG but that's because the system is feeding you the ball, if you're not giving your team a chance to be in the conference finals or better, you get 2-3 tries before they give someone else a chance.
Plus if you taking 20-49 shots a night.....you SHOULD be making 20-25 PPG. Problem with Melo was never getting buckets, it was GETTING STOPS. Star players often don’t wanna admit when they don’t got it anymore..or if they are still able to get empty stats while hurting there team and the development

This is true. Sometimes a player will leave a contender to go to the Hornets or something for money and people will start talking about how they're not a winning player anymore
Not really. Teams see that Klay's skills is declining with Steph next to him. They're visioning what his decline would look like without Steph. Dude didn't have a great handle or moves in the first place now he maybe declining on top of that.
Dreadful example, for one Klay clearly isn't the player he used to be. For two he got paid a 5 year max averaging over 40 mil a year, when he was rehabbing his acl injuries for 2.5 years.
@TheHiphop98 yea but it's not the same as the conversation Iggy, Melo are talking about. Warriors didn't put klay in a box. Iggy was saying the fact that he was a team guy and came off the bench when he should've been a starter ultimately hurt the rest of his career, because warriors put him in the "hes a team player" category. With Klay, though, the dude served his purpose for the warriors. His skills are declining so now it's time to look to the future.
which is why i always telling my friend, NBA is changing, it's not pure basketball sport anymore, or should i say the NBA turning into NBAE, Entertaintment~~ Iggy is one of the best defender i have seen in NBA, & they benched him.... he can snatch the ball from Giannis when Giannis attacking the rim, i still think he's an elite 3D even in his late career, warrior just benched him & trade him, TWICE~!
It's never been a pure basketball sport, when do you think it was? It's always about money, and there are more teams trying to win now than ever before.
I think guys need to realize at the end of their careers they need to choose wisely. Look at Klay right now, he could probably get 18-20mln a season with the Warriors for another 2 or 3 seasons and he can always be useful and effective for them and possibly get another contract. Or he can sign somewhere else and get 22-25mln for 3 seasons and potentially not be a good fit or flame out within a season, and his career is over or he is buried on the bench. Then he'll be dealing with buyouts and trying to scrape onto any roster. Sure you can feel disrespect, sure you can make slightly more dollars elsewhere, or you can make a little bit less money, be effective, and finish your career where you want to. Heck, take less money and put a no trade clause in your contract. Too many players (like Melo) think it is a mindset thing, no bro, you were clearly not superstar money at a certain point, getting injured, not being effective, terrible on defense (which you can only do if you put up an efficient 20-25ppg a night). At some point you need to realize where you are at in the game, and solidify the position you want to be in to round out your career. A lot of good NBA players just miss reading the room on their career until it is too late.
I can see you don't value yourself 😂😂😂😂 why would Klay do that when there are worse players than him making bigger money. Learn how to negotiate your worth once you devalue yourself do will the organization.
@@heigherheights21 it’s not really devaluing yourself when you already have 100 million in the bank I value myself enough to make over $100 million but I’m at the tail end of my career I’d rather be realistic with myself then try and play this game of ego and say hey I’m still top dog and if I’m in klays position, I’ll probably be looking more for fit then money at this point in my career

Their perspective on money is heavily distorted when you look at millions of dollars as “pennys.” I’d imagine they make so many sacrifices (personal and professional), but I just wish they’d acknowledge they are part of the 1% financially.

Yes Kawhi is a better player than Paul, but Paul's availability makes him a better player than Kawhi, you cant be good on the trainer's table.
In fairness to the Warriors, Iggy was declining when they moved him to the bench. Becoming a role player is likely what extended his career until he was almost 40 years old. Iggy was not close to a max contract player at that time. The last few years the Warriors kept him around to basically be a cheerleader because he barely played. Talk about a lack of gratitude. These guys act like they were still in their prime and left max contracts on the table to be team players. This is why I can’t stand pro sports anymore.

That’s a wild statement
Klay Thompson watching this doing the birdman hand rub 😂👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
There’s 10s to 100s million reasons why he was rightfully mad to come off the bench
Plus if you taking 20-49 shots a night.....you SHOULD be making 20-25 PPG. Problem with Melo was never getting buckets, it was GETTING STOPS. If you can't Stop the Opposition from scoring, it leans more on who making the shots for the night. The best guys HAVE to do other things to impact winning to make up the difference.

At first I didn't agree with Iggy but then when he talked about the 200 million difference with Scotty Barnes I was f the team. I am not coming off the bench. I am not Manu.
Tough take! The all-time 6th man list would be a great Euroball team.

Yo as a former elite gymnast, this conversation speaks to my soul of what being a professional athlete is like. Thanks, fellas.
Melo acting he was still that guy. lol. The delusion on this guy. When he went to OKC and they were asking him to come off the bench and he wouldn't --- that's because you weren't that guy anymore. Even Andre with the Warriors -- he wasn't that same guy in Philly. But he was still an excellent player but it was better for the rotation that he comes off the bench.
Most of the clips I see from this podcast are melo delusions imo like he can’t be honest with himself
Iggy coming to the warriors fed families. Also picked up Livingston that next offseason. Much needed vet leadership is not valued enough now a days.
iguodala kirikenko and batum are some of the most underrated team member you can have.
Can defend multiple position, always do the smart choice, play for the team and where the coach need you
I hear these guys, and I think they should get all the money they can while they can. BUT - I would also like these guys to be honest that yes, a player's value does drop as they get older. Speed and agility is a young man's game! Prime playing years are like a woman's prime beauty years - it's undeniable.
Star players often don’t wanna admit when they don’t got it anymore..or if they are still able to get empty stats while hurting there team and the development
I understand what they are saying, but as a coach or GM your job is to win games not worry about how much money somebody is making. I don’t think it’s always being shady on their part. As a player you have to make a decision about what is most important to you. Winning versus making a few more dollars. Ain’t mad at either, they both have to look out for what’s best for them.
Nah because if a player is playing good and still not getting minutes that contradicts the point about winning.
@@Nick-sr4fe playing in good in completely different than in a game. Plus, context matters. You could be scoring in practice but they don’t need another scorer or sometimes it’s just not your time. I do believe coaches need to communicate.
Carmelo's prime was with Denver and the Knicks. He chose to go to the Knicks and was the highest paid player for his entirety with the Knicks (but for one year Amare made less than one million more)- he got his money. The thought that any team should pay a player out of their prime the same money as they were in their prime to the detriment of other acquisitions doesn't make sense.

Carmelo's should not blame the system, he should have listen to Michael Jordan's advice on being a more rounded player; more assists, more steals, more defense, etc. He would have won more games, and probably a championship. Also Andre did not got really penalized for going to the bench. He won a finals MVP, and got more money as a bench player in the second half of his career than as a starter in the first half.
U hear iggi say “they do this”, “they treat u like that”, ie complaining management can exploit players … meanwhile, he’s personally invested in tons of cutthroat businesses where employees would be replaced/demoted/cut in 2 secs if the bottom line calls for it. Remember this when he sits there in his suit. He might be on players side in basketball, but he’s on management side in the rest of his time. The guy made way more millions from that than in basketball.

This is true. Sometimes a player will leave a contender to go to the Hornets or something for money and people will start talking about how they're not a winning player anymore
As a musician, I can relate how this concept of undervaluing myself has diminished my career.
Happening to klay rn
Not really. Teams see that Klay's skills is declining with Steph next to him. They're visioning what his decline would look like without Steph. Dude didn't have a great handle or moves in the first place now he maybe declining on top of that.
Klay not playing like Klay, this was the WORST EXAMPLE 😂🤣

Yeah once a lot of money is involved in something it’s most likely not gonna be pure anymore

Is it really sacrifice if they were just no good enough to be a star player? I mean if they are genuinely still good as a star player, but choose to take a pay cut while playing a diminished roll (like Chris Bosh in Miami), then you can call it sacrifice for winning.... But in the case of melo, he was just bad as a star player, and no team would want melo as a main scoring option. Melo wasn't really making a sacrifice. He simply became a worse player and teams were just responding to his declined value accordingly.
