    ATTENTION - One thing that no UA-camr sponsored by Ledger (yes, they receive the products for free) is highlighting is that both Ledger Flex and Stax only have 1.5 MB of internal memory, compared to 2 MB on the Nano-X. I've had a Nano-X for over a year and recently received the Ledger Flex. In addition to having smaller memory, the applications are different and take up more space on the Ledger Flex and Stax (probably because of the interface), which absurdly limited the number of applications you can install (in my case less than 10). This limitation makes me need to uninstall and reinstall applications frequently when I need to transact on different networks. Additionally, several applications available on the NANO-X are not yet available on the Flex and Stax. If I had known about these issues previously, I certainly would not have purchased the Ledger Flex, but rather another Nano-X as a backup. Greetings from Brazil!

    • @CryptoDad
      @CryptoDad  6 місяців тому +1

      I did talk about the storage compared to the ledger Nano X, but it really wasn't pertinent to this video. (cut it for time) So I'll probably post that little segment tomorrow where I talk about the storage capacity and the reason why it's smaller than the Ledger Nano X. It's basically because they had to fit extra code on the secure element chip to power the screen. They're working with limited space because this secure element design is maximized for security. I think if they were to make another secure element that had more storage capacity, it would require a huge investment. We're basically talking about that little chip that you see in your ATM card or credit card. Just imagine trying to program an ecosystem on something that small.

    If you already have your crypto on a Nano S or X, what's the benefit of the Flex and Stax? The memory of the Flex is less than the Flex. I wasn't even able to install all my crypto on the Flex due to the small amount of memory. What am I missing?

    • @CryptoDad
      @CryptoDad  5 місяців тому +1

      Well, for me, it's the improved interface. I've used a ledger nano device for years, and I find either the Stax or the Flex to be much more convenient. That means a lot to me. If you're already comfortable with using your ledger nano device and you don't care about interface, then I guess there is no benefit moving to Stax or flex. Somehow I look at this question like "would you rather use a flip phone or a smartphone?" They can both make calls. I just remember how sending texts was really tedious on a flip phone because there were three letters on each key and on a smart phone you have a full keypad. So I kind of look at this in the same sense of upgrading the experience. Maybe you don't care about that, but I think a lot of newcomers that find the Ledger Nano too difficult to use, will appreciate the Stax/Flex interface.

      Yes, I totally agree. If we assume that the average cryptocurrency investor is only holding a few thousand dollars worth of crypto, then a $400 price tag is quite a chunk out of their investment. Best to put that money towards more crypto. However, if you're hodling more than a few thousand worth of crypto, it makes sense to protect that investment with a state of the art, easy to use device.

    • @CryptoDad

      I spent some time with the team at Ledger during Bitcoin Nashville 2024, and they told stories about how customers would come to them and tell them that they needed their help extracting crypto from one of their devices. They said they had to tell them that they designed the device to specifically prevent that.

    • @guymandude7855

      @@CryptoDad Ledger has very poor wallet security in case of seizure. Some wallets have a self destruct mechanism etc. There is another wallet which I won't mention which is 100% government proof which has no seed its a private key generator. I fear governments. I'm worried about my funds being seized. Pin code protection might prevent loss of funds from common criminals but not governments. I've seen in the media people's bitcoin seized in hardware wallets due to illegal activity, however it was once illegal to own gold. Our governments have gone rouge.

      Basically interface. It's much easier to use. If you're comfortable with your existing device, then I guess you don't need it. Personally, I've been using these devices on a day-to-day basis years for now. I welcome the touch screen and would never go back to using a nano device. And that stupid screen of the side of it is so pointless and impractical. Especially when you introduced the case that just covered it up anyway lmao. Just get a flex and save way more money for the same thing. Or if you don’t care about touch screen, just get the nano S or X. The Nano Stax is straight up an overpriced gimmick with the only ‘real’ upgrade being a bigger screen.
