Haru? Who? xD Jokes asside, yeah she pretty much feels the same as in the original. We get that character really late. P5 takes forever to give us all party members and by the time we get the last one the game ends...
@@meetomeeto8271 I think Naoto was handled better than Haru because we see her early on in P4 and can at least form a opinion on her before she's integrated into the story. Haru didn't even exist before the last quarter of the game and in Royal she feels shoehorned in so they can go "see we remember Haru's existence."
@@joyboy6752 I think that's largely because his "dream reality" was wasted. Am I the only one that wanted him to basically be Kaneshiro with blue hair?
@@sungleong I've gotta call cap on this. Persona 5 Royal is a massive improvement to the base game, only bad thing is its a but easier except that one fight.
@@sungleong Right, because Haru was introduced better than Maruki and Yoshizawa. P5R is better than base P5 in every single way except difficulty, excluding the lavenza fight.
Right? Getting money and exp became stupidly easy after collecting only a decent amount of the stamps. Couple that with Ryuji's ability to run over shadows weaker than you and I was never short on cash and leveling up was insanely easy. It took a lot more grinding to get the same amount in vanilla P5.
But at those times, most people didn't have speedy internet to download dlcs, even many people don't have intenet connection. I never heard for dlc or expansion at that time, so the only way for developers to add a big addition to their game is to re-release it.
@@SproutFarms i would argue that tizjs is not really an overhaul of ff12. And i've played all version tho i never finished tizjs but i've finished tza.
@@SproutFarms it's like when they balance things in mmorpg, balance the jobs, adding new one, changing old one, etc. In ff12 enix saw that the freedom of licenses made player only use the "meta" license. So they limit them. Every character now has to chose a job that has limited license board.
I think part of what Nyarly forgets is that beating SMT Nocturne without buffs was much, much less about skill with the game's systems and was more about assembling the very best of everything and then relying on luck to get through the most powerful enemies.
Yeah... Although P5R does seem easier than P5, it’s not like ease to the point of boredom. My sister played the vanilla game on Easy mode and still died several times. I played Royal on Normal mode because I’d already understood most of the battle mechanics from watching my sister play, and while I died only once or twice, it’s not like a was constantly bored or overpowered (until I got a bunch of Mementos Stamps and accidentally shot up like 10 levels in one run, but that was around Sae’s Palace). I played NG+ on Merciless and it was hella easy, but that’s because I had Max stat fully optimized Personas I grinded for the previous playthrough, the strongest weapons and gear, and all Mementos Stamps. But it’s not hard to figure out that Merciless is pretty damn difficult otherwise when a mid-game boss can already tank a Max stat Satanael’s Black Viper, boosted by 4 different passives (Almighty Boost & Amp, Magic Ability, Tyrant’s Mind). Don’t even get me started on fighting Crow in Shido’s Palace, he easily could two-shot an over-leveled Panther with the highest defensive gear. He also took 2 Black Vipers to the face while Debilitated (one of them was Concentrated, too) and SURVIVED. I really don’t want to imagine doing that fight without NG+, that sounds like a nightmare.
I’m in level 43 I think. I go to mementos for the stamp collection and to do multiple requests all at once. I spend the stamps to max out the bonus exp first. I think personally Jose is just something to smooth out the grinding. Just by getting the stamps for the exp bonus it makes every trip moving forward smooth as silk and you feel comfortable with how much you feel leveling up.
@@sebastianubeda8363 it was weird though because it was only every 1 out of 3 shadows. Now that i think about it they were probably the strong red shadows but at that point in the game i was fighting the reaper a lot and got 99 with everyone
Speaking of DLC. How the hell is Kasumi's costume bundle 15$ when you only get to use her for 1 palace? If i gotta mod the game to get use out of DLC it's not worth buying
Ryuji's "It's too dangerous for you to come along" was a big slap in the face for any fan of Kasumi's. Realy sucks for anyone that bought the costumes thinking they'd at least have half a games worth of use.
Too true.I kept hoping she becomes available as a party member, and with what happens between her and the phantom thieves, the end result left me pretty bummed. Wasted potential.
IMO NG+ should've given us access to all party members including Dark Skin Akechi and Yoshizawa from the start just to make up for the fact that those two are in your party for so little time. No need to explain how they're there, either. Just a gameplay thing. This can be accomplished with a save editor, but it shouldn't have to be.
Even if you use a save editor you'd still have to manually edit the stats and level and skills of them just so that they don't break the whole game by being overleveled, it's so fucking stupid honestly.
@@zackfair6791 NG+ is always garbage in these games and I don't see that changing. A real shame. NG+ done right is usually more fun than the base game.
I wholeheartedly enjoyed the 3rd semester for a plethora of reasons; The "final boss" (keep this spoiler free) had close ties to you, the protagonist, and the group as a whole like Kamoshida and Shido did (y'know, the good villains of the game?), making the fight feel personal; the reasoning behind the final boss's motives weren't sinister or conniving but driven by good intentions, however, much like how Akechi found such a world to be disgusting, Final Boss's desires were so...hubristic it irritated me at points -- especially during the fight in which he speaks to the cast (another plus is how that dialogue shows their steel resolves) and the whole palace and final fight truly hammers home the Freedom Vs. Security motif; Akechi got padded out both through his confidant and the 3rd semester where he allows his true self to show without reserve and I LOVED it (His and Joker's Showtime is my fav, especially with the signs in the background like "Two Sides of The Same Coin" -- I eat that shit up); Kasumi was a welcome addition and I felt really bad for her, it was a cool twist that I really didn't see coming for her character; and finally the Lovecraft made me nerdgasm and the final fight as just...hype. A real man's fight toward the end. Downside to the 3rd semester is its playtime -- it's sooooooo shoooooort! The game cucks you pre-Shido where Kasumi offers aid and you HAVE to say no. Was total BS. So you only get to play as her for a little over 20 in games day, which is not long. And are you guys telling me I was the only one who wanted to fly around Mementos in Mona's new form?! Lot of things to love, lots to invoke ire, and I'm glad there's someone who can review a game they like without the rose-tinted shades. But I LOVED this addition.
I just hate how despite having a 15 dollar costume pack, yoshizawa is only playable during the last palace and those other one-off situations. I personally believe that she should've joined the gang during the Shido palace at least.
@@czar_fz She should've; they blue-balled us, and while I get the whole in-game reasoning why Joker and Morgana didn't let her in (the foe they were up against had a major foothold in politics and government), it felt like a COP-OUT.
I think this version is a massive upgrade to the OG P5. Like you said, this is the definitive version of the game. I love all the improvements, the new characters, it's all just great. But yeah, just get the free DLC. It's really all you need.
@@KraNisOG I was gonna say that the Strange Journey costumes are amazing, but honestly, they used Alex's theme instead of Fear of God for the Battle Theme, so absolutely fuck it.

I found that when I was playing through Persona 5 Royal, each little change was significant enough to make the game seem new or unique. While I don't really think that it completely changed the game, it more smoothed it over and made Royal the better version to have. Being able to see Akechi be an actual character was pretty damn nice too.
Akechi is my top 3 favourite character but I really realllllly wish they stuck with Last Surprise, I don't like Take Over. I would be more more wanting to play it if that was the case
@@MangoghTV Hard disagree. Each edition has had some sort of upgrade released for it, so there's no reason to early adopt if you don't WANT to. But of course, to each their own!
Yeah, the Dlc pricing blows. Admittingly, I had to cave Cuz I needed Izanagi no okami and the challenge battles. But a costume bundle for a character we barely get to use? Mr. Krabs could learn so much from Atlus Fucking hell. With her practically being one of if not THE poster child for Royal, you'd think we would get more time to play as her. Instead, that's regulated to phone games during special events. Smh...
I have the same complaint like they should make if you bought the dlc costumes, The strawberry should get hers too like isnt too much to ask. But separately spending 15$ is too much and plus the time limit with her is very little compared to Haru in the base game to get Haru level 9 on the base game needed precisely time management.
Yeah, I didnt plan on buying kasumi dlc because I was fine with the outfit but I didn’t even know izanagi no okami was strong as shit until I started using him. I just got the dlc personas for fun.

X.A.N.A. The problem with this is the insert version here is never guaranteed to happen. Look at Pokemon, just cause Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, and Platinum exist didn’t mean Grey, Z, Star, or Armour were gonna happen...and they didn’t. Hell in the case of XY and SwordShield we aren’t even getting b2w2 or USUM type deal. Likewise with Persona, just because P3FES and P4G exist, didn’t mean P5R was going to exist. And now just cause P5R exists, doesn’t mean P6Whatever is gonna exist. And how long are you going to wait? P4G took 4 years to come out after 4, P5R took 3, are you going to wait that long after P6 releases before thinking P6Whatever won’t happen and just buying P6 instead? Are you gonna wait 5 years? 6 years? 10 years? Who knows people are clamouring Atlus for another P3 remake and were 14 years past that games release if they end up doing that. We don’t know when or if these remakes will happen. And also in the event that they do happen, if you really love these games, are you really willing to wait literally years to experience them, risking spoilers and missing out on the discussion of the game and just missing out on the game in general for years, just in case a better version comes out years later?
mariopkmnzelda Atlus milking they persona franchise is to be expected at this point, especially after P4 was milked to all hell and P5 getting the same treatment right after. It’s justified to think that definitive versions of future persona games will most likely exist because Atlus just loves milking the persona franchise as a whole.
@@mariopkmnzelda bw has bw2, sm has usum and sw/sh will get a full version with the dlc because of course it will. the ones that don't are the exception. patience is the mother of all virtues my guy. though I'm not even sure I will buy P6, P5 shows some really shit decisions by atlus. I'd wait and see how P6 does anyway. and that goes for P3 remake too.
life is joke Milking the games through anime’s and spinoffs is one thing, there’s no guarantees one of the ways the game will be milked is through a rerelease. P6 could easily get milked through an anime, a fighting game, Q3, scramble 2, a dancing game, and toss on a racing game on top of that, there’s no guarantee that an enhanced version specifically will be made. Remember when people said waiting for the enhanced version of a Pokémon game was no brainer because it literally always happens? And then it stopped happening.
As someone who, despite its flaws, loved P5 I adored Royal. The new characters and story of the third semester were highlights for me. 1000% the biggest issue for me was the difficulty. Merciless was a cake walk.
I agree. I'm wishing we could get a better difficulty curve cause it's way to easy. I just wish we can get something like in P3 difficulty and especially a boss like Elizabeth again as even in merciless the twins are relatively easy.
The biggest issue for me is the lack of meaningful new content. I can deal with an easy game. But I’m currently on Shido’s palace and have experienced like a combined total of an hour or twos worth of new scenes in over 100 hours of gameplay. I don’t consider stuff like the gameplay changes such as disaster shadows or baton pass changes or whatever to be meaningul content because that stuff is nice sure but I wouldn’t feel like I’m missing anything if they weren’t included, the way I’d feel I’m missing something if Kasumi wasn’t included for example. And from what I’m hearing the new semester is very short lived at that so even that won’t make up for it.
JukaDominator It’s definitely the easiest Persona game. But it’s honestly pretty simple if you’re struggling I can explain to you how you win in this comment alone. If the enemy you’re fighting has a weakness...literally just knock it down and all out attack it to death, it shouldn’t even get the chance to attack you in that situation. If the enemy has no weakness, have Ann use Dormina on her turn to put it to sleep and then have your next character use a physical attack to knock it down, and all out attack to win. If it’s a boss with no weakness, all you gotta do is ensure you’ve always got a marakukaja up on your party and a tarunda on the boss, this should ensure that your party survives pretty much any attack the enemy does (aside from maybe the bosses super move, which you’ll get a warning about before hand, something like you’ll get a cue from say Kamoshida saying he’s staring at Ann, which is your cue to guard with Ann, if you guard you’ll live especially if youve got tarunda/marakukaja up) Then next turn just have Morgana or Makoto or Joker cast a party wide heal while the rest of your party either concentrate/charges, sets up Matarukajas/rakundas, or spams whatever their most powerful attack is. Then just rinse and repeat until you win.
I'd argue Brave Step is a better skill than Masquerade as Fafnir is the only enemy that voids physical damage in Maruki's palace, alongside Akechi's passive being a better part of his persona as it's actually OP
As someone who hadn't played P5 since I beat it back in 2017, I thought P5R was a worthy purchase. It's a funner, more fulfilling version of the original game and I've gotten about 200 hours out of it, which is good value for a $60 purchase.
Omen Dragon the dlc or microtransactions are indeed, there, but there not necessary to complete ANYTHING so idk why people are complaining about this. You’re not forced to buy it, and P5R has so much content in it as someone that’s played both extensively it wouldn’t have worked as well as just another paid dlc. It’s one thing to complain about gachas and P2W dlcs, but when the dlc are mostly cosmetics or personas that you don’t need to beat the game I can’t see that being worth bitching about.
@@shelbyratliff6219 it's because people still buy them which tells atlus that they can keep doing it. People want to have choices and extra stuff but shouldn't have to pay that much for them. Either include the stuff into the game or make it not all cost 60 bucks becuase it isnt worth that much.
@@shelbyratliff6219 Look at Bethesda and look what they become, a golden horse armor to basically 60$ p2w game."At least it is not p2w and only cosmetic" starts it all and lead to this fallout shit. ts nyan but that’s my point your basing it off of other companies, which up until now, most of what Atlus’ microtansactions consist of are non necessary and you don’t have to purchase them. I’m definitely not saying that every company follows that same route. But you also need to be aware that Gachas and shit are huge in Japan/Asian countries as a whole. They buy tf outta micro transactions. At the end of the day everyone’s out to make money, and if there’s a market for them they’ll always be around. I just don’t think it’s fair to assume because atlus added some outfits and dlc personas to assume it’s going to get worse when that’s not really been a pattern of behavior for them. Hell. Royal isn’t even entirely unique in concept because they did something similar with P4 and Golden.

I played the original P5 for over 100 hours but got burnt out at Shido’s Palace, but then I got Royal which took 173 hours. Besides the game being too easy, I’d say it was absolutely worth it cuz that last story arc was so magnificent that it gave me post-game depression once the credits were through and didn’t wanna play anything else while I just thought of the ramifications
I'm just disappointed they couldn't belay their greedy hands long enough to release P5R, PQ2, and Scramble before they made P5D. The new music would be great for a rhythm game.
Bad thing their rythm games aren't very good. Many times you don't follow any instrument/sound, you "complement" the song as if you had a tambourine, which is annoying and confusing. Let me play to the rythm of the guitar, drums or something!
Exactly I’ve played so many smt games and persona games and this has to be the worst. I usually watch the opening at least once and this is the first persona game where I just gotta skip the opening.
I skip the opening as well. I watched it once and that was enough for me. The opening of P3P, on the other hand, is by far my favourite. I never tire of that one. Just a shame it's attached to a sub-par experience.
The thing I have about P5R is that I feel it brings a clearer theme and message to P5 that wasn’t present in the original release. It originally felt messy without a true message. With that in mind, I wish this was the original release of P5 because this feels like what the story SHOULD have been. P4G and P3P forced a lot of stuff that took away from its original releases, but not the case here
I couldn't agree more. I hated the ending of Vanilla so much. The extra content really cements the message further. But still, I feel like mid-game is still underwhelming.
@@digimonlover1632 If you're talking about "rebellion good adults bad" as the message, then you are ignoring the entire second half of the game. Futaba's palace, Okumura's Palace, and Sae's Palace are all done with the Phantom's Thieve's self interests in mind, not for the greater good. I personally thought the game was originally about Justice, but that was handled as poorly as Akechi's development in P5 vanilla. Royal kinda brings a better theme of self acceptance and "going too far" which complements the game's original narrative and brings it to a more focused theme
Going to have to disagree here. To me, the original game's ending fit more of emotional closure. Joker's free; the man who marred his future is behind bars, and there's no more cosmic threat. He gets to go on one more adventure with his friends ss the credits roll. The ending in Royal is just as tacked on and forced as Maruki's dungeon is, which, if you're looking hard enough, is a truly infuriating and insulting statement about mental health that Atlus should have taken back to the drawing board as quickly as it came. Also... A MAN TO MAN SLUGFEST?! EVEN SHIDO DIDN'T GET THAT, AND HE EJECTS YOUR PARTY MEMBERS TO FACE YOU ALONE! WHY DOES COUNCILOR GET THE MAN-TO-MAN BEATDOWN?! It doesn't make sense to me.
To be honest in regards to your thoughts on Persona 5 Original. I feel like the myriad of delays the game went through, caused your expectations to become a little too lofty. Which tends to happen when games are in development for too long.
I don't think it's the delay's fault for the game not meeting expectations. Because what I was expecting was not improvements upon the more technical parts and all those QoL changes. What I was expecting was something truly significant in the way of narrative and themes, like in P2 and P3. This is possible if the main director knows the direction for their game from the get go. For example, you can have an anime like Ghost in the Shell ask more questions than it has answers. But it is fundamentally grounded in a topic or theme. This makes it interesting at its core. P5's version of this feels more loose and superficial relatively; and that is where I feel disappointed. P5R made a lot of QoL changes, but those are tiny compared to what I care about. What I do appreciate more are the narrative additions. P2, P3, and P4 are aged games in terms of mechanical aspects such as all the gameplay parts, but what keeps them memorable are the other intrinsic parts.
@@GrubKiller436 p2s narrative is becoming so overated holy shit There's so much wrong with the actual tone and speed of the narrative yet everyone sucks it off like it's just endlessly perfect beyond cringe I hate old head persona players.

You'd expect a modern persona to be much better by now. And to be impressive when it's been very many years and we've seen the potential of not only Persona, but what other games can do. Visually, technically, everything.
@@Nerevarine420 Guess when P2 was released? 1999. P3? 2006. P5? 2016. One thing I know for sure: Persona 6 will happen some day but this time I'll wait to buy the definitive edition. It's really not fair all that new content isn't available for original P5 as an update or paid expansion.
That's because it's not DLC. It needed a new format to add on the extra combat features, dialogue, confidants, palace alterations to an already existing game so the game had to be reworked from the ground up. I admit the new character and palace could have been dlc if they wanted it to be, but honestly, that's not what makes Royal good DLC, you usually open from an on screen menu or it's even started becoming standalone titles nowadays.
@@insomosisytmusicandsports4393 what a poor excuse! We have precedents in the industry of game updates that changed the game "from ground up". Persona 3 and 4 could be excused because they were on ps2 when DLC wasn't a thing but as much as I love persona ( I really do) they take the absolute piss with these practices.
I loved the small improvements to battles such as automatically having the baton pass and the different rankings. It makes me dread playing vanilla P5 again just for the sake of getting the platinum trophy lmao Maruki is definitely one of my favourite persona characters now but I can’t say the same for Kasumi. To me her character felt awkwardly shoehorned in. I feel like this could’ve been improved if she interacted with the rest of the thieves throughout the game instead of them only acknowledging her when you’re already 3/4 of the way through the game. It felt like she didn’t have any chemistry with the rest of the team when she eventually joined. Heck, even Minako had better chemistry with the PTs in PQ2
While I like Kasumi, I admit Maruki is the better character. Remove Kasumi and Maruki’s story doesn’t change. Remove Maruki and Kasumi’s story falls apart.
Personality-wise, Kasumi to me feels like another haru?? and honestly nos it feels like all the boys on the team are unique, but then 3/5 of the girls are just polite and nice. Love her design though
PeachDucy Imo I’d rather have 3/5 of the girls polite and nice rather than obnoxiously annoying and cruel. (Yukari, Chie, Yukiko. Though out of those 3 Chie is more tolerable)
one thing I think needs to be taken into account when a full price re releases of a game releases is that it's not an easy thing to recommend value wise as part of that 60 dollars is the whole original game, and it's not like DLC where you're only paying for the new content. so if someone has never played persona 5 and doesn't own it they're basically just paying for an entire game of content, and then some where someone who has already played it is paying for the same entire game and then some. it's a difficult thing to really determine if it's a good value or not cuz in an objective sense it's inherently a better value than the original but there is this weird line where to some people this may as well be a way above average content and quality wise DLC. that being said I think it's easy to recommend this to someone who's never played P5 but for someone who has it really is a person to person preference of if it's a good enough value for them personally. like as an objective assessment this game is a fantastic value but that changes on a subjective level.
@@C3l3bi1 when considering buying the original at that point it's a choice between do you want to spend money on an inferior product or do you want the objectively better version. In the end neither choice is wrong but it's up to the indevisual to decide if they want the old or new version. Personally I think anyone who wants to play the game for the first time but doesnt have the 60 dollars should wait for a price drop rather than play the original cuz ultimately royal is the better product and in the end they'll have a better experience. That's my opinion tho
I, like many others, got P5 and when P5R got out, I bought it, too. While much of the DLC doesn't appeal to me, I was really excited to see what they'd added and I didn't mind paying for some decent game content. I've put in about 100 hours into the OG, and I expect P5R to maybe go for a little longer than that.
A rerelease of a game that came out three years prior... on the same console... that they could've just added all of this into the original to begin with. Yeah, great value. Definitely isn't like they ripped off a bunch of people by selling them an unfinished game and then calling the finished version a "rerelease" later.
I absolutely love the original P5; one of my favorite games period. I had incredibly unreasonable expectations for Royal. I have some nitpicks and personal biases such as liking the original ending sequence and song more than Royal's, but I like Royal's opening and integration of new characters and story elements better. The new quality of life/improvements to combat and fusion as essential IMO. While I wanted a more definitive and hopeful resolution to one character in particular, along with a few other small changes to character resolutions, I definitely enjoyed it. I've struggled with the mixed feelings it's left me with over the last year and a half. It's only compounded by how good P5 Scramble/Strikers is in story and character. Considering it follows the original P5's story ending, does this create two timelines? I love the new characters in Royal and Scramble. I can only hope a new P5 game, such as a fighting game, will come out to tie both game's stories together and create a definitive timeline including all characters in a meaningful and satisfying way. Honestly, I think a PC port and/or a mod/DLC to allow me to use Yoshizawa and Akechi throughout the entirety of Royal would help that nagging sense of longing I get from how short the 3rd semester turned out.
: Even on hard mode persona 5 was and extremely easy game Me who turned on easy mode to beat shadow madarame do I suck that hard Hoo boi I never even got over a 100 likes thanks
Honestly man I turned the game down to Normal on Okumura. I couldn't stand that boss fight and I was too anxious to see the rest of the plot. That said I thought the whole thing was difficult so I guess they're just used to it because they played the older SMT games, which are much harder. Before this game I only beat Persona 3 and 4 on Normal.
Nah man, don’t worry about it. P5 kicked my ass when I first played it (P4 and FF13 were the only JRPGs I’d played at that point). Now years (and many Megaten games later) I get why the community considers it easy. I feel like the true statement should be “P5 is an easy Megaten game” because depending on what games you’ve played prior (and how much the RNG gods hate you) it can be difficult. No one should shame you for beating a boss on easy.
@@JukaDominator Really? I turned the difficulty up on Okumara's fight from normal to merciless because I wasn't able to do enough weakness damage without the extra multiplier. It was actually harder on normal for me.
@@theking9957 Haha, I was just dying on the Sacrifice Order part. When the fat green robots came I couldn't survive it. I was really under leveled though, at 39. That might have been the reason it was hard.
[SPOILERS AHEAD] I didn't play og P5, so when i got my ps4, i decided to buy Royal because of the new content. Even tho there are issues with the game that you pointed out in the video (Bad pacing towards the end of the original story, too easy), it still doesn't prevent it from being my favorite game. I love the gameplay even if it's easy. It feels way smooter than P4. The new soundtrack is godly, especially "ideal and the real" and "another ideology". I like thieves den for all the little character interactions. And for the third semester... To put it simply, Maruki might just be my favorite character of all fiction. I loved him from the moment he first appeared to that last moment in the Taxi before the end credits. I loved how he wasn't portrayed antagonistically. He doesn't want to fight you, he just wants to help you, even if his methods are wrong. The old tapes that let you explore his past makes you feel bad for him. That fist fight on the decaying palace was hard to go through, even tho you know what he was doing is wrong. The dlc thing, i agree is kinda fucked, especially with the challenge battle. I would comprehend if the Door-kun and Yu Narukami fight were dlc, but the rest of them? TL;DR I loved the game, Maruki is best boy, the dlc are fucked, everyone has their opinions
I said this before to someone who also didn't play the original, I don't fault you for believing that you got a good game, but what atlus did is absolutely disgusting. If you go and download a ps3 emulator on your pc right now and play persona 5 you'll see that this is 25$ worth of DLC being used as an excuse to lock 35$ worth of patches to the original game behind a paywall. As someone who came on later you might feel like your money was well spent, but to everyone who got the original game at full price on the same platform, this was a huge middle finger to them.
@@cosmogreen4261 i know that, but at least it's not like in japan, where even if you already had the dlc for the og, you still had to spend a small fee to get them in royal. It's still shitty nontheless. I know it's greedy, so the best thing to do is the same as Nyarly said, don't buy the dlc, don't support this kind of buisness model
Cosmo Green I played the original and didn’t feel that way with Royal. Although I’ve always hated how Atlus handled the DLC. Their DLC sucks. Never bought any of them and never will. Thank god they never implemented loot boxes (or other gambling types of dlcs like EA does).
@@Bri32675 a lot of people like P5 religiously, its a good game, but other people did not like the game with the issues which it had, such as myself. When I played the original I immediately knew the fixes it needed to make it a good game and those fixes were what is now being called "quality of life" changes that are being sold in P5R. This should've never happened, they should've supported their original release and patched it, and if they wanna sell a 60$ game that has slightly improved graphics and maybe 25$ worth of dlc content then fine, but they didn't do that, they KNEW that their game needed fixing and people were waiting and hoping that the fixes would arrive and they took the opportunity to charge you 60$ again. If you just like the game so much that you thought the original was great, thats fine, you wouldn't feel the way I do. But as soon as I played persona 5 I knew it needed the fixes that came in Royal, and they asked me for another 60$ to get that. Fuck them

Not really sure what this comment means in regards to "a insane mod" or something but you do know what parental controls are, right? All major consoles have a system that prevents kids from buying or booting up games above a certain content rating. You could just like, turn on parental controls on the PS4 so that your kid can't play M rated games. Plus, about that, this game is rated M. It's not misleading, the front AND back of the box say it's rated M, and the online store does too. It even says right up front what content people might find objectionable, I have the game in my hand right now and it says "Rated Mature 17+ by ESRB for Blood, Drug Reference, Parital Nudity, Sexual Themes, Strong Language, and Violence". Literally this shit is on the packaging. It's not like some cutesy happy haha funtime kids cartoon playing on tv that suddenly features a bunch of guys shootin each other with guns and explosions and smokin weeds and eatin mary jane wannas or something... Though, considering the game features very prominent messages of self-improvement/self-acceptance and self-actualization, along with the more meta message that you should always fight for your justice against evils of society even when you believe you are powerless to change anything, I would say this game is probably pretty healthy for teenagers at the very least to play. I mean, the LITERAL uniting factor between the main cast of characters is that they are all people who have lost their place in society, some by succumbing to a life predetermined for them by adults who don't truly care for their wellbeing in the case of people like Makoto and Haru, some by being exploited in ways that forced them to choose between being complacent in being a victim of horrible crime or being punished for standing up for themselves in the case of Ann and Ryuji, and others who've been forced into being complacent in letting themselves be taken advantage of by their only caregiver in the cases of Yusuke and Akechi.
This is my favourite review on Royal. Fair, objective, demonstrably accurate and without exhibiting any of the fandoms problems (either extreme blind praise on one end or SMT elitism on the other) I both enjoyed and could easily follow along the breakdown of the game's new features and story additions and it never felt like my opinion was insidiously manipulated like other reviewers attempt to do. It's also appreciated that you are obviously very well versed in SMT history and mechanics. I didn't realize for example that some of these new demons have been absent from the series since 2000. Thank you for spending the time to make this.
(For everyone who need a summarization) If you have the original and you think It was a goodish game and already got some dlc with it DONT UPGRADE, But if your a die hard fan who adores everything Persona or your new to the game and want to try it out and get into the franchise then get Persona 5 Royal (Well this is what I can take away from the video) It’s a great vid you earned yourself a sub 👍
YES! DLC Persona already screw with the game's balance due to how poorly implemented they were (as soon as you can access the compendium you can get Lv60~90 Personae for FREE, without having to fuse anything) but Okaminagi takes the cake with his EXCLUSIVE signature abilities that trivialize an already softened game. (Not to mention that all of them are Legacy Personas. It doesn't get more immersion-breaking than that...) P.S. And that one Persona that ain't Legacy? Just like the Challenges, Raoul felt like he was paywalled. (Hell, you even get his concept art in the Thieves Den even if you didn't get Raoul or not)
jimmy walls uhh yes? Izanagi no okami breaks the game but he is by no means a necessity. I haven’t bought him, I’ve had zero issues playing the game on merciless.

SPOILERS: The part that pissed me off specifically is I feel like the advertising for the game is extremely misleading. Specifically the 3rd semester and new party member portion of the advertising. Is there a third semester? TECHNICALLY yes but its not a whole third semester its more like 25 days lol. If you advertise it as a third semester I think in my head "Oh wow thats gotta be like atleast 2 more palaces" or atleast more than 20 something days lol and the worst part about the extra time is that half of that extra time needs to be spent leveling Kasumi's confidant. And what pissed me off is right at the beginning of the third semester you gotta spend a week walking around the city and talking to party members for no real good reason other then to just tick up the time. Then my personal biggest problem with the game is Kasumi. Firstly, I'm just not fond of her demeanor I think she's just kind of annoying (this is just my opinion its okay to like her) and she was put in just to be a kouhai character because we didn't have a single one and we needed a Rise/Kanji/Naoto character to call us senpai to make us feel good. I don't hate her but I think she's not great. Secondly, SHES ONLY AVAILABLE FOR ONE FUCKING DUNGEON. The game also slaps you in the face because right before Shido's dungeon she asks if you if she can join the phantom thieves and your only option is NO because they were too lazy to put her in cutscenes or write her dialogue for that point the game. Thirdly, In my opinion she is very shoved down the player's throat and gets way too much importance put on her especially since i feel like she's actually not that important to the "third semester" storyline unlike the other new character... Maruki is fucking awesome I think he's an awesome addition to the story and the cognitive psience stuff. I think its great cause although he is a bit shoved down your throat he's not shoved down your throat nearly as much as Kasumi is and also I'm personally just really fond of his design and character (opinion). Personally my problems with Royal boil down to: Kasumi is lame because she doesn't join the squad early enough. This may be a personal problem but in RPGs if a character joins that late I don't want to use them. I like to use the characters i've already built up and built a connection to. The game is WAYY too easy even more so than OG P5 specifically because of the strength confidant (imo), and I'm mad Merciless wasn't made into a sick new difficulty it still sucks ass. I loved the game I loved the original P5 and this game is literally just more P5 so its awesome. Is it worth $60? Imo not really but as someone who loved P5 I feel like the original game got me more than double a game's worth of price so paying another full $60 for a little bit more content I was fine with doing personally and I still had a lot of fun playing it again. Jose is the best.
i agree on your point that kasumi should be in palaces earlier, but the quote that she's unimportant to the third semester is kinda wrong, kasumi serves as the player's look into what maruki does, if maruki didnt do all the stuff with kasumi but instead with a rando, his confrontations would be way less emotionally charged, because you hang around kasumi for the entire year, and then the game hits you with the twist that its not her, the emotional impact on the player would be greately dampened if this was someone else, i find her way less forced than marie in p4
@KublaiGenghis I mean Kasumi literally asks to join you before Shido's palace I thnk they could've just let her join right there imo. They could've done the situation like with Morgana where Morgana gets his development later in the game at Okumura's palace and you could've had Kasumi join for Shido's then the reveal would've been even greater that "omg this girl isn't Kasumi shes actually someone else!!!"
Well put. I honestly think that the whole addition of royal content should have been an add-on content pack much like ff15 did for it's royal edition content for $15. Yes you could have bought ff15 royal for $60 but the option to upgrade the base game for $15 was wonderful.
I love Kasumi, but I agree with most of what you said. I was absolutely pissed off when she was declined when she asked to join. I bought the DLC pack, cause I love P5 (and I also fell in love with Kasumi's design at reveal), so I didn't really care about shelling out extra money, but for Kasumi's costumes to only be usable for one goddamn palace is a crime. I was thinking 3rd semester would add in another 25+ hours of gameplay, but it was all mostly forced story crap. If you weren't leveling up Kasumi to 10, you'd be talking to your other party members getting them their 3rd awakening. Then there wasn't anything new added at night, so most of your nights during 3rd semester was jazz club or w/e other activity you needed to do for achievements. It felt wasted. I do wish they increased the difficulty as you said. I was having no issues playing through the game, and just decided to make things faster and use InOP to just mow down all the old stuff to get to the new stuff quicker. I still ended up with a solid 120-ish finish time, but that's still like, 20 hours less than my OG save. In the end, I still love Royal, but maybe the trailers got my hype too high expecting to have Kasumi from early on, but alas. Just like how Haru didn't get any screen time, Kasumi didn't get any play time. Also, "character to call us senpai to make us feel good" made me lol hard. Cause you all know that's fucking true.
@@Botan_Katou It is true I was telling my friend that also really likes Kasumi I was just joking with him and prodding at him like "Bro the only reason they added Kasumi is cause they need a character to call you senpai cause they didnt have any in the game"
I wished the charcters were more properly introduced, the third semester was an ACTUAL 3rd semester, and that it was harder. Other than that, a total upgrade and definitely worth the money
samuel if you played og persona 5 no. If you love the persons series yes. Because make no mistake, I loved persona 5 but I am not spending an extra $60 for the same game with extra content
Persona and SMT have different internal development teams, don't they? So it's not like the development of p5r or p5s has any major effect on the development of SMT V. edit: Some spelling errors.
With the difficulty critique, I would chalk that one up with how experienced your are with SMT. But that doesn’t excuse the hardest difficulty still being easy for a seasoned player.
They tried to do something similar to what Kingdom Hearts 2FM does with Critical mode, where enemies deal more damage, but so do you. In theory, it's supposed to reward you for attacking weaknesses and pulling off technicals or crits. But the thing is that the OG Persona 5 was my very first Megaten game and I figured that out within the first few hours. I can only imagine how easy Royal was for Megaten vets, especially with the 3x multiplier on Merciless.
Spoilers: I know a lot of people don’t like Sumire’s character, but I personally really liked her story about how she lost Kasumi and I felt like she was as equally important as Maruki because their stories are both connected. I just feel like Sumire has more depth than people give her credit for, because the story about her wanting to become Kasumi embodies the third semester’s themes about having to face hardships and not run away from them
"And I strongly disagree." I somewhat understand. Persona 5 is incredibly great with its music, looks and all that. But to say that you strongly disagree is kind of harsh. I think that Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal are pretty incredible games.
Imo Kamoshida arc: Awesome Madarame: Great (Fun boss fight in Royal) Kaneshiro: Decent (Also fun boss fight in Royal) Futaba: Awesome Okumura: Mediocre (Worst boss) Sae: Awesome Shido: (Vanilla) Decent with an epic showdown between Akechi and Shido. (Royal) Huge improvement and is just a great arc now Yaldabaoth: Decent in both versions. New Reality Arc/3rd Semester: Awesome and my favorite arc in the game hands down, loved nearly every moment and the ending is bittersweet
I think the ultimate conclusion is that this is the ultimate "Buy it when it goes on sale" kind of game, at least for people like me who played the original but aren't diehard smt/persona fans enough to have the time or money to buy and play through p5 again any time soon.
Boddy “lackluster” pacing is a very ambiguous critique, is it slow? Is it fast? What’s wrong with P5’s pacing? Have you played P3? It’s dreadfully slow, yet it’s a good game for me
I still haven't considered buying it. Im also waiting to see if Atlus is going to even consider putting it on tbe switch. If not....well ive already played p5 vanilla so im not really hellbent on buying it. This isnt to say ill never buy it cause its not on the switch...just might take me a couple years.
I think the people who downloaded the original p5 should get a discount while people who never played it pay the same amount, but idk how else they would've sold it for less
@@daikosaiko1145 Well selling it for the normal price means people who allready bought the original have to pay the same price again for a bit new content. Either way no one made that argument.
My issue is that I just don’t have the time for another long PS4 RPG. Persona 5 was already a massive undertaking since I had to work around siblings’ play schedules as well. It would be an impulse buy if they put it on the Switch, but that’s probably not gonna happen, because Atlus wants to put literally anything P5 on Switch, so long as it’s not the actual P5
Peyton Pietro mainline persona games are under contract to be PlayStation exclusives, so P5S being a completely different genre bypasses that and lets Atlus release a Persona game on the switch and is probably the only way they could do have any Persona related content on switch, besides the Joker costume in Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore.
life is joke I hear that they’re under contract but I never hear a verified source say it is. Did you hear that from somewhere verified? I can’t tell anymore if it’s true or not
TheGuy I’m sorry for the confusion. Exclusivity deals and contracts are just speculation, since there’s no way confidential information could be leaked that easily. It’s more likely that Atlus just wants to keep Persona with Sony and SMT with Nintendo just to have smoother relations with two major companies in the gaming industry, and that’s where the speculation/rumours likely stem from
SMT5 when? Seriously what the hell, are they waiting for a new gen switch? It IS sad because SMT has potential. I wouldn’t be mad for a P3 remake, but if you want to overly focus on Persona, the oldies (pre P3) could use some love (I guess too much love bc Atlus won’t do it 🙃). So... P5 Scramble is next. Lol, I see more future in that than SMT5.
@@SleepyDonnnn I love SMT too but I feel you shouldn't be petty and let it cloud your judgement. I want Sonic Adventure 3 but I am not gonna shit on the new Sonic game for not being it.
I enjoy this guy but yeaaa like he's complaining about difficulty, well maybe bc he's played every SMT game ever released lol bc I will admit it got easier but I was still very much challenged & I'm no rookie when it comes to jrpg turn based games. Clearly he's not a big fan of persona but hopefully his opinion has softened after the smt5 news lol
Hey Nyarly, I know it seems like an odd video to comment this on, but thank you for getting me into Digital Devil Saga. I started playing not too long ago and I am in love. I only know it exists thanks to your channel.
“So, we’re gonna have sixty dollars of DLC when we rerelease Persona 5! How do we wanna do it?!” “Oh, oh! Bonus fights and joker’s third persona! We give them one of the fights for free to entice them into buying them all!” “Excellent idea! You get a raise!” “I dunno...don’t you think that’s going a little far? I mean...” *gun cocking noises* “I-I mean how are we gonna filch our loyal fanbase this time!” “That’s better.”
I finished my playthrough of Royal last night and I absolutely loved all 183 hours of it for the most part. I thought the third semester was well handled, and Yoshizawa and Maruki were great characters. The new content left me delighted. I will agree with you on a few points. The difficulty does get bonked even in this version, especially because of the Special Treatment perk. The DLC issue is also a point of contention. Kasumi only having one alternate costume, her gym clothes, was lame, and I wasn’t going to pay $10 for costumes she should have had as part of the normal dlc anyway. The one point of the game that left me legitimately angry was Shadow Okumura. The way they changed that fight was so fucking stupid and poorly designed. They took what was already a lackluster “boss fight”/mook rush, and somehow made it even worse. I’m surprised you didn’t bring it up in the video. All in all, I had a blast, and I agree this is the definitive version of Persona5. A great game made even better.
Agreed. Okumura's boss fight was the only fight in the entire game that took me multiple tries. It's because those damn robots only have two weaknesses and resist every other type and on top of that, you only have two turns to defeat the entire wave before one explodes and the others run away.
With how hyped up people were about Kasumi being a new phantom theif, i feel like the whole experience with her was underwhelming. I mean i do understand that if they wanted to make her playable much earlier in the game, they would have to re-animate cutscenes which would add to the development cost and development time. Either way i did enjoy the 100 hours of playtime i spent revisiting one of my favorite PS4 titles, it was a good way to spend time during quarantine. Kinda wish they added Sae as a romance option tho, seeing as they were trolling us with the OVA and all that xD
@@acebreaker7 yeah it's good, but it really should have been in the game to start. Not talking about cosmetics, I'm talking about the p3 and p4 protagonist battles. Hence why waiting for a discount is better this time around
What makes Atlus look even worse with the Royal version is the fact that Fire Emblem Three Houses (another jrpg/strategy game) had their own expansion in Cindered Shadows and was able to implement it as a DLC rather than forcing people to pay for another full price game to play it. And they were able to incorporate all the supports for the new characters into the main story-line no problem. Safe to say I am not getting Royal until it gets to half price or below (which is gonna be a while).
This doesn't feel like a fair comparison. Royal brought way, WAY more changes and additions to it's core game than Cindered Shadows did. Royal has it's new story and elements completely integrated into the main story all throughout the entire game, whereas the main story of Cinder Shadows takes place in one isolated point (yeah, you carry over the characters and get a couple new paralogues, but the "main" stuff is very detached from the continuous narrative, unlike Royal's new stuff).
@blkxbr you're only focusing on the 3rd semester, not counting the new confidants, new voice lines, new gameplay mechanics, new personas, new storyline, new areas to explore, new activities, and Thieve's Den. Fire Emblem had NOTHING like that
I agree, Azathoth was great, Adam Kadmon's first phase was... meh, but I expected a better last phase tbh, overall, the final bossfight was great, one of the best in the game imo, but the last phase was wasted potential.
One of the things that they should add to the enemies to make them harder without making them health sponges or just "hitting harder" is introducing back the Pierce Elemental skills and the Drain/Null/Repel Pierce only for bosses. And making their AI follow up weaknesses.
Having Bosses that can hit through Null/Drain/Repel is an excellent idea; but I don't want the fusion effort to go to waste so at least make it into a resist. Also yeah they should target weaknesses when possible.
@@matchanavi Yeah, I guess bosses having that makes them quite the conundrum. At least make them dealing neutral damage would be the best solution so they don't feel cheap but make you go for more buff and debuffs (I also don't want them to become a healing spamming fest for the player). Those skills should be unique only for late game bosses though and the player shouldn't have access to those because it would destroy the point of the difficulty. The weaknesses I still stand my point. I don't feel like I make a good strategy when the enemy casts garudyne on Morgana.
I remember when I got the free dlc and all the outfits and just putting on the p3 school outfits on everyone. I did not expect to enter a battle and hear BABY BABY BABY BABY
After playing through the whole game and being on my way through new game + for that extra content, this is my answer to the question of whether you should buy it: If you played the original and you liked it so much it left you wanting for more, or if you wanted to do new game + but didn't want to go through the same content again, this is the perfect opportunity to enjoy more Persona 5. There're enough changes there to make the game the second playthrough feel fresh enough. However, if you're anything but a Persona 5 fan, I don't think there is enough here to justify spending another 60 dollars and devoting another 100+ hours to playing it again. As the former, I really enjoyed it and I do not regret the money I spent, but I can't see the same happening for me if I didn't love the original as much as I did.
Murath I mean...if you’re not a Persona 5 fan, I don’t see why you would even be questioning buying Persona 5....again. Like this question is being asked by people who are fans pretty much exclusively. Anyone who is not a fan either hasn’t experienced the original, so the question is irrelevant to them, or didn’t like it and therefore will not any have interest in getting Royal. I’m a massive Persona 5 fan, it’s my favourite game of all time, and I bought Royal and was super disappointed by it and felt like I paid $60 for content that feels like it’s worth $20.
I loved this game so much, but I agree with absolutely everything you said. The difficulty and DLC were a huge issue for me. If DLC is the same exact price of the game, then I expect the same amount of content the base game has. Also, this wasn't mentioned in the video, but the ending scene with Kasumi was so... unsatisfying and also they went and voiced a ton of scenes what weren't voiced in the original, but they didn't voice any of the third awakening scenes. I really don't get some of the decisions they made with this game.
Well here’s my unpopular opinion. When you mentioned that Kasumi seems to outshine everyone in the phantom thieves group, I absolutely hate that. It’s just not right to me that the game would cast a mellow light on everyone else just to make Kasumi stand out more. Maruki is great though, I can kinda relate to him, but Kasumi makes me groan SO hard.
I've only played through the casino part in the beginning (in the middle of replaying the original for now), and,,,, I already don't really like her. There's something about her that just bugs me, and her emphasis on the cover (futaba really got done dirty, same with a few others, ngl) rub me the wrong way. Not to mention all the hype I've seen about her online,,, I really hope my opinion on her changes, and I'm gonna keep an open mind to her, but, idk.
Disappointed that’s pretty much where it started for me too. When the characters feel so real to me, I believe they all deserve equal representation... but they put the spotlight on her most of the time, and it really bugs me.
Wait, since when are the P5 elitists the "elite"? I tought they were the lame ones. Idk, I am sitting on the SMT throne calling them plebeians all the time.
Tbh, Im tired of people saying that EVERY re-release should have been an expansion. Did you see how much it changes compared to the base game? Do you think an expansion could change the boss fights, add new confidants, change a lot of confidant and battle mechanics, add an ENTIRELY new city zone and new boss battles? And that is without talking about the third semester..
I stumbled onto this and have to say I like the point of view and breakdown from a long time fan. Persona 1 and 2 on ps1 introduced me into rpgs aside from FF. I got royal but havent spent anytime playing, yet.
Funniest thing about Royal is that Yoshizawa and Maruki were introduced and integrated into the story better than Haru.
Haru? Who? xD
Jokes asside, yeah she pretty much feels the same as in the original. We get that character really late.
P5 takes forever to give us all party members and by the time we get the last one the game ends...
She's about the same as Naoto, who is also a fucking mess in how she's handled.
And Maruki is a great character and so is Sumire. Their confidants are on the better side of things

I think part of what Nyarly forgets is that beating SMT Nocturne without buffs was much, much less about skill with the game's systems and was more about assembling the very best of everything and then relying on luck to get through the most powerful enemies.
I think a game just has to be fun

I wholeheartedly enjoyed the 3rd semester for a plethora of reasons;
The "final boss" (keep this spoiler free) had close ties to you, the protagonist, and the group as a whole like Kamoshida and Shido did (y'know, the good villains of the game?), making the fight feel personal; the reasoning behind the final boss's motives weren't sinister or conniving but driven by good intentions, however, much like how Akechi found such a world to be disgusting, Final Boss's desires were so...hubristic it irritated me at points -- especially during the fight in which he speaks to the cast (another plus is how that dialogue shows their steel resolves) and the whole palace and final fight truly hammers home the Freedom Vs.

Honestly now I’m questioning is it even worth getting persona 6 on launch or just wait until the Insert Version here
I realized that after 4 golden lol

Dangit how do you guys find these games so easy I thought the original Persona 5 on Hard was grueling.
@@JukaDominator I mean the game is not stupid easy (unless on easy or noob mode) but compared to previous entries it's way to easy.
One of the things that bothered me is:
Kasumi and Akechi gets their most OP amazing attacks on the very last day.
I'd argue Brave Step is a better skill than Masquerade as Fafnir is the only enemy that voids physical damage in Maruki's palace, alongside Akechi's passive being a better part of his persona as it's actually OP
That is a true buzzkill tbh
Third semester is like a tearjerker though. FR there has never been a better villain, or boss song for that matter.

@@shelbyratliff6219 it's because people still buy them which tells atlus that they can keep doing it. People want to have choices and extra stuff but shouldn't have to pay that much for them. Either include the stuff into the game or make it not all cost 60 bucks becuase it isnt worth that much.

Nyarly is just too attached to the older SMT games.
@@GrubKiller436 p2s narrative is becoming so overated holy shit

@@Nerevarine420 No. I hate new head Persona players. Because they're fucking blind. I don't give a shit that you like P2. At all. I never said you had to like it. I was merely making a damn point. Those were old fucking games. OLD. They were limited to the experience of their times. You'd expect maybe the developers would keep learning and improving. You'd expect a modern persona to be much better by now. And to be impressive when it's been very many years and we've seen the potential of not only Persona, but what other games can do. Visually, technically, everything.
@@Nerevarine420 Guess when P2 was released? 1999. P3? 2006. P5? 2016. P3 is over here looking so fucking interesting it could've completely passed for a legit visual novel, and P5 is over here with shitty pacing and absolutely unbearable dialogue stacked to the brim.
Catherine, released in 2011, looks like it could've been a damn movie, and P5 is over here looking like a downgrade of Catherine. What? How do you go backwards?
And the really sad part about the DLC is that they did all that and still didn't include Naoya, Tatsuya and Maya as optional bosses given that there is no excuse in that context.

Not just say "yeah the boss does this and that yadda yadda". You keep my attention and I dont just play your videos in the background like most others. Thank you for making videos. I'll have to get a PS4 so I can play Royal, I just beat 4 Golden not too long ago so next is 5R in time!
P5R is great, and I love the QOL improvements they made to the game. Those QOL changes made the game too easy though, so it would have been nice if they'd upped the difficulty of the game to compensate.

I guess liking this game makes me a casual and a newbie too despite more than a thousand hours on all the persona games except the first. (And also all the smt games I could have access to including devil survivors, strange journey and nocturne)
One thing I know for sure: Persona 6 will happen some day but this time I'll wait to buy the definitive edition. It's really not fair all that new content isn't available for original P5 as an update or paid expansion.
That's my plan too!
That's because it's not DLC. It needed a new format to add on the extra combat features, dialogue, confidants, palace alterations to an already existing game so the game had to be reworked from the ground up.
I admit the new character and palace could have been dlc if they wanted it to be, but honestly, that's not what makes Royal good
DLC, you usually open from an on screen menu or it's even started becoming standalone titles nowadays.
@@insomosisytmusicandsports4393 what a poor excuse! We have precedents in the industry of game updates that changed the game "from ground up". Honestly, I'm with Renan. Waiting it out for three years is not a bad idea.
Yeah, they could have very easily updated the quality of life improvements into the game. As for the extra content they could have you pick which version of the game from the menu there's no excuse. Persona 3 and 4 could be excused because they were on ps2 when DLC wasn't a thing but as much as I love persona ( I really do) they take the absolute piss with these practices.
I loved the small improvements to battles such as automatically having the baton pass and the different rankings. It makes me dread playing vanilla P5 again just for the sake of getting the platinum trophy lmao
Maruki is definitely one of my favourite persona characters now but I can’t say the same for Kasumi.
Yeah it made improvements. Improvements that should've came in a patch, not bundled with a bunch of other features and stuck behind a paywall
Personality-wise, Kasumi to me feels like another haru?? and honestly nos it feels like all the boys on the team are unique, but then 3/5 of the girls are just polite and nice. Love her design though

one thing I think needs to be taken into account when a full price re releases of a game releases is that it's not an easy thing to recommend value wise as part of that 60 dollars is the whole original game, and it's not like DLC where you're only paying for the new content. so if someone has never played persona 5 and doesn't own it they're basically just paying for an entire game of content, and then some where someone who has already played it is paying for the same entire game and then some. it's a difficult thing to really determine if it's a good value or not cuz in an objective sense it's inherently a better value than the original but there is this weird line where to some people this may as well be a way above average content and quality wise DLC. that being said I think it's easy to recommend this to someone who's never played P5 but for someone who has it really is a person to person preference of if it's a good enough value for them personally. like as an objective assessment this game is a fantastic value but that changes on a subjective level.
keep in mind the OG costs 20 dollars so even more value for new people
@@C3l3bi1 when considering buying the original at that point it's a choice between do you want to spend money on an inferior product or do you want the objectively better version.

I disagree tbh. I prefer royal's ending.

SPOILERS:
The part that pissed me off specifically is I feel like the advertising for the game is extremely misleading.
Wild that every logo shown at 0:03 has a different logo now
Did anyone else run out of things to do in the third semester?
"should you buy persona 5 royal"
if you loved persona 5 yes, if you didn't love or even just liked persona 5 than prob not
Also yes If you never played base P5
P5 is my favorite game of all time and persona my favorite series of all time so buying the collectors edition was a no brainer for me
samuel if you played og persona 5 no. If you love the persons series yes. Because make no mistake, I loved persona 5 but I am not spending an extra $60 for the same game with extra content

the final boss is absolutely GODLY but it’s all up to preference. i really can’t wait to see what they do with SMT V after this
If it ever comes out
really hope after persona 5 royal and scramble maybe atlus will get to it. seriously what with 5 being atlus slow number.
I'm not convinced that game exists anymore
Persona and SMT have different internal development teams, don't they? So it's not like the development of p5r or p5s has any major effect on the development of SMT V.
edit: Some spelling errors.
It seems people forgot how delayed Persona 5 was.
Spoilers:
I know a lot of people don’t like Sumire’s character, but I personally really liked her story about how she lost Kasumi and I felt like she was as equally important as Maruki because their stories are both connected. I just feel like Sumire has more depth than people give her credit for, because the story about her wanting to become Kasumi embodies the third semester’s themes about having to face hardships and not run away from them
"And I strongly disagree."
I somewhat understand. Persona 5 is incredibly great with its music, looks and all that. But to say that you strongly disagree is kind of harsh. I think that Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal are pretty incredible games.
i mean, he didn’t qualify any of the points. There’s not much to disagree with
Imo
Kamoshida arc: Awesome
Madarame: Great (Fun boss fight in Royal)
Kaneshiro: Decent (Also fun boss fight in Royal)
Futaba: Awesome
Okumura: Mediocre (Worst boss)
Sae: Awesome
Shido: (Vanilla) Decent with an epic showdown between Akechi and Shido. (Royal) Huge improvement and is just a great arc now
Yaldabaoth: Decent in both versions.
New Reality Arc/3rd Semester: Awesome and my favorite arc in the game hands down, loved nearly every moment and the ending is bittersweet
@blkxbr and the boss fight the Green robots haunt me im my dreams
He didn't call it a bad game though. He just says he doesn't think its the greatest JRPG of all time like a lot of the internet seems to think.
I think the ultimate conclusion is that this is the ultimate "Buy it when it goes on sale" kind of game, at least for people like me who played the original but aren't diehard smt/persona fans enough to have the time or money to buy and play through p5 again any time soon.
Same
idk, even on a sale it's still a 100+ game with luckluster pacing.
I'll wait 5 more years. Couldn't find the effort to play P5R when I already plat the OG Persona.
I also think this would have been the best course of action. The whole "this could have been DLC" idea is ridiculous to me.
If they sold the game for less it would mean that the people who haven't played the game would get a cheaper, superior game which I find kinda stupid
@@matchanavi why ?
It’s more likely that Atlus just wants to keep Persona with Sony and SMT with Nintendo just to have smoother relations with two major companies in the gaming industry, and that’s where the speculation/rumours likely stem from
Isn't that more of a YOU problem than anything else though?
You're not missing much. You can view the third semester on UA-cam lol.
14:27 I knew about the hissing, never knew about the purring.
I was gonna buy this at $30 or $20 not $60. Already bought the first edition.
You make good points but I do feel your SMT bias is showing.
To be fair if my favorite series was overshadowed by the spinoffs series id be pretty pissed too
@@ylhocvhe Yeah Atlus needs to balance it out.
How do we wanna do it?!”
“Oh, oh! Bonus fights and joker’s third persona! We give them one of the fights for free to entice them into buying them all!”
“Excellent idea! You get a raise!”
“I dunno...don’t you think that’s going a little far? I mean...”
*gun cocking noises*
“I-I mean how are we gonna filch our loyal fanbase this time!”
“That’s better.”
kemix1006 can’t wait for Atlus to get their own palace of greed
60? It's actually 100 and something.
I honestly think this is one of my favorite games of all time. I usually hear gushing praise for this game so it was interesting to hear your take
I think this game is such a great improvement from the original. One of my favorite games of decade and Royal makes it even better for me
I finished my playthrough of Royal last night and I absolutely loved all 183 hours of it for the most part.
I plan to get it when it goes for $20. I really liked base Persona 5.
Same. I don't want to pay 60 dollars plus dlc for the game I've played to death
@@bluegrave4376 I just skip dlc.
@@SuiteLifeofDioBrando missing out big time
@@acebreaker7 For $9.99 I rather buy another game than a brief expansion to a game I already own.
Fire Emblem had NOTHING like that
@blkxbr is royal was a expansion pack then it will be successful but not everyone has good internet
It's $20 right now @ Best Buy.
Its 30$ digital right now if you still want it
Seriously, a talking cat is your problem after Teddie and Koromaru?
I was extremely disappointed with the Adam Kadmon fight. I actually wanted to fight him not just block 3 times until the final cutscene comes up
I agree, Azathoth was great, Adam Kadmon's first phase was... meh, but I expected a better last phase tbh, overall, the final bossfight was great, one of the best in the game imo, but the last phase was wasted potential.
Also, where the fuck did Satanael go??? Why couldn’t I just shoot him in the face?
@@TheBrutalSax
You want to defeat Maruki, not kill him!
Looking forward to the second part of SMT Nocturne no buff/debuff challenge run, Nyarly
Great video as always
I'll gladly buy this with DLC. In a few years
I'm a patient gamer and the original was my first persona and emulated on a pc.
I remember when I got the free dlc and all the outfits and just putting on the p3 school outfits on everyone. I did not expect to enter a battle and hear BABY BABY BABY BABY
After playing through the whole game and being on my way through new game + for that extra content, this is my answer to the question of whether you should buy it:
If you played the original and you liked it so much it left you wanting for more, or if you wanted to do new game + but didn't want to go through the same content again, this is the perfect opportunity to enjoy more Persona 5.
I liked the game.
And i didnt even have to pay for it,my pal bought the game and the persona/chalange battle dlc,so i basically played it for free :)
What a nice guy
Yeah i got a real mary sue vibe from her during my playthrough. Especially during the intro cinematic in Sae's palace.
I feel the same thing about Makoto, how she’s always treated like her codename
You could say pretty much the same thing about Makoto tho
I don’t get the “A re-release? Really?” comment, there’s FES and Golden, what’d you expect?
Think I’ll wait till it’s cheaper and just finish my P5 NG+ finally. DLC like that in a rerelease is deplorable though, why Atlus
The persona 5 elitists are coming. Oh god
You know it man, the persona 5 elitists that have never played another game
Wait, since when are the P5 elitists the "elite"? I tought they were the lame ones.
Idk, I am sitting on the SMT throne calling them plebeians all the time.
"elite" more like newbies that didnt played any other smt game
@Fernando Alvarado Ya that was the point. Kinda doing the same than them.
P5 kids rage pretty fast upon hearing opinions and their "elitism" is weak
There's nothing really wrong with elitism and I wish people would quit complaining about it.
I enjoyed it but I feel like it should have been an expansion rather than a new game.
Absolutely this
I think all these changes don't add to just an "expansion".
Kelly Johana Agreed.
@@dstorm2919 Also the new voice actors and the new Personas and abilities and Jose and the whole Mementos reform...
