Man, “low budget” is not Black Magic 4k (for filming company it is low budget, but not for someone who starts now)… to set it up you have to spend small fortune. Cage, external monitor, external ssd (not to mention the storage for GB of video)… so that is not “low budget” in my opinion. Otherwise GH5 and GH5s are great option for starting. Low budget in my opinion means get a camera and start shooting as cheap as possible and GH5 is good enough to be that camera. :)
Let me start by saying I agree that the GH5 is the more "budget friendly." That's why in this video and my filmmaker kit I recommend it. BUT I wanted to give alternatives that could be considered.
You don't necessarily need all of that stuff. In the video I talk about the built in screen and how it's really good, you can plug in for wall power, you can use lower budget SD cards too, I've used SanDisk V30 cards with it just fine. 4K 12:1 compression. So you don't necessarily need that stuff and if you look at the eBay offers, most come with a cage and stuff for around $1100. Sure its not the perfect camera, which is why I talk about this in the video specifically but depending on the type of stuff, it's still a great option.
I do agree that it needs to be rigged for general usage which is why I talk about those cons in the video. And why I recommended the GH5 as the best. My pocket 4k was my first budget camera and I wasn't a production company back then).
I started with GH5 and those slowly started to get rigged 😂. Now I have 3 S5ii and those are rigged. You start with the basics then customize if you wish but I agree these UA-cam Videos get people to thinking they cant shoot without all the attachments 😅
@Ron Foy exactly. I started small, grew bigger. With what I shoot now, I need these things rigged to the max. But some of my work it's just the camera. Simple is great for certain things
A used c100 Mark ii is the real GOAT!
It's definitely a great camera! If you can find one for $1000, then go for it! I still prefer a Pocket 4K because it shoots 12-bit 4K RAW, rather than 1080p 8-bit. It's easier to push and pull in post.
But the C100 II is a great camera. I've been thinking of getting one for my UA-cam videos.
In 2023, I would not recommend the S5 for video. The S5 II is phenomenal and worth the financial stretch. The S5 IIX is worth the extra $200 if you can stretch it. OTOH, the used GH5 II is also a good deal.
Found you through Nigel B.! Awesome to find another local Dallas UA-camy duder! Subbed and belled!
Awesome man! Thank you! The Dallas scene is growing for sure!
Great vid. In your chapters the S5 is titled as ‘S5II’
Thanks for the heads up. I didn't add chapters so I guess UA-cam did. I'll try to change it
production quality👌
great content like always.
Thank you! I try my best!
Great video, thanks man
Thanks for watching!
Well done 👏🏻👏🏻 Really enjoyed the overview of these cameras. Keep up the great work 👍🏻🤗
Thank you!
Great content💪💪!
Anyway I should consider as a cheap filmaking alternative a nikon z6 paired with an atomos ninja v. In the used market you can find the camera quite cheap, with good low light capabilities, decent autofocus, and the possibility to output 12 bit raw. Used camera plus ninja v cost almost like a bmpcc 4k.😊
That's an option. But if you use premiere, you can't change white balance or ISO with prores RAW and davinci won't support it. Two things to consider
@@jeremypope-levison721 you are right, for davinci users you can pair a Blackmagic Video Assist 12G as well
@ale vir yes you can. Those tend to be more expensive. I don't love Nikon for video, just never have but as I said in the video, use whatever you want because all you need to do is just get started
Great video and good tips, thank you! What do you think about the Panasonic G9 camera and would it be useful for hybrid use and what lens would you recommend for hybrid use because I am interested in both video and photography?
Honestly the panasonic s5 with the sigma adapter and a used 24-70 from tamron (EF mount). The S5 is a true hybrid camera that has great video specs and great photo specs. The G9 is only 8-bit for video, so it's not my favorite and you can get a used S5 around the same price and it has a better upgrade path.
@@jeremypope-levison721 thanks 🙌🙌🙌
@@jeremypope-levison721 Just fyi, the G9 has received firmware updates that increased its video features, including 10 bit video.
@Leaf Catcher great! I'm not very familiar with the G9, but I love Panasonic so I'm sure it's a good camera
Really good and informative video. I have a question. I am confused between s5iix and gh5s. Low light is my main concern as I shoot mostly documentary films. I have ordered BM VA 12g. Which camera would you prefer?
S5 ii x. If you can afford it I would do that
@@jeremypope-levison721 thank you brother. Would love to learn and grow from your content and discussion 🍃
How do you bypass the record limit? Does the S5 not stop after 30mins??
It does stop after 30 minutes if you record internally, but if you record to the Atomos Ninja V, it won't stop at 30 minutes.
