I know they say not to try something for the first time with client jobs, but when the client trusts you, sometimes you just gotta go for it. Sometimes it works out, and sometimes you wind up having to improve your post-production skills.
Despite on-set mistakes and experiments, I do feel like I am turning a corner with my abilities. I can see my composition getting better, I feel more confident in certain situations. I'm enjoying the growth that I've been experiencing, and I'm excited to see where it goes from here.

Honestly it seems like a super versatile piece of film gear you can add to your kit would be a 5-in-1 reflector. It can help diffuse and bounce like and the black side can help cut light to get a more moody dramatic look. If you placed a black side 5-in-1 on the first subjects far side of the face for the interview it would have cut the light that was bouncing off the way and added more contrast to the image. I love using these types of reflectors and they are cheap! At one point I’ll upgrade to silks but they are so versatile and can be held by most light stands since they don’t weigh a bunch!

So funny enough I have the 5-in-1 and I’m fairly certain I brought it with me on this shoot 😅 I need to grab an extra light stand and a clamp or bracket that’s sturdy enough to hold it. I definitely need to start thinking about the lighting more, especially when it comes to negative fill and flagging to help shape light

I love these vlogs because no two are the same! It’s so cool that you get the opportunity to capture and showcase unique services and businesses - from birth centers to disc golf. (Also, that Sisu logo animation is straight 🔥) Looks like every shoot is a great opportunity to try out new skills, and I’m here for it!!! (As are all of your subscribers!) Keep up the great work and keep the BTS coming!!!

I do love having the flexibility and not having to worry about "niching down" into any particular industry! My goal is to continue to create strong visuals that work well in any industry and be able to serve a wide variety of clients.
Thanks for always supporting me!! :)

Love working with direct clients. So i like to step in man if you don't mind, good read I promise I might have to simply do a video one day.
    1. "What lighting is Best lighting?" ... the lighting that works for you
    2. "What setups are best" ... the setup you are working with that's making you money like in this video
    3. "What composition looks best for each client" ... the one that works for the shot you are achieving.
There's no one way street to this, you can't focus on "best" because there is no such thing other than BEST being WHAT WORKS. Don't get caught up in all that camera club stuff my guy. It restricts you from creativity and broadening your wings. More to say it constrains. You'd be surprised what one light can do to a whole scene so having 2-3 of those awesome LED panels just adds to the cause in a positive way.
    4. "I'm trying to find my own visual style because marketing agency clients has a very specific style" ... ok so it's not your style beyond that what's the worry? Focus on creativity and define your own style for your own looks yes 100%... but also bare in mind that agencies don't care about style, cinematics and all that youtube jazz you only hear in it. They care about your level of quality, delivery and overall result. THEY will choose the style along with asking you. So don't pivot away, but when you are doing spec work, create different looks within that and remember than not every shoot you do has to have this camera club "rule" that constantly floats groups and videos. There's no rules, just guidelines. In the absolute very end of it all... you got paid and your client was happy right? THAT'S the best you push for.

Tony, I'm not gonna lie. When I started to read your response I was ready to come back hot, but when I got further than two sentences I realized you were coming from a good place. I fully appreciate the time and energy you put into this comment.
I 1,000% agree that "best" is subjective and whatever works for certain situations, and that no two situations are virtually identical. I just meant that sometimes, I think I'm making a good choice in the moment, then I review the footage later and I think to myself "Why the hell did you do it like that?!"
And I absolutely LOVE my Lumix system and it is what has been working for me - direct client and agency-wise - so I don't necessarily think I feed into the camera club stuff, haha.
As far as visual style, I don't sweat the agency stuff because I still learn on those shoots, I'm still presented with challenges, and I'm grateful for all the opportunities that I get. I'm just starting to branch out more with my own clients and I'm getting more freedom to experiment with looks and visual styles. I'd eventually love to have a recognizable style, how some Hollywood directors are recognized, but for now I'm more than happy playing with that stuff from job to job or spec ad to spec ad and seeing what I enjoy creating.
Again, I really appreciate the thought you put into this comment - just another reason I've enjoyed sharing my journey on UA-cam! The community has been fantastic. I hope you have a blessed day, my friend!

Much appreciated! The biggest challenge for me was just going to events, or should I say not going. I've only been to two in the last couple of months and even though I got some client work/potential client work out of it, I think the coolest thing was just talking to a bunch of business owners that didn't realize there was someone in their community offering these types of services.

Hey there! Thank you for subscribing! I'm not sure what the ISO value was on the timelapse - I film the vlogs on my iPhone, so I just used the built-in timelapse feature.

Hey, I’m glad you like the video! Thanks for watching!
Honestly the best piece of advice I can give is to learn as much about your camera as possible and go out and capture things you like! You learn as you go - I’m certainly still learning and have a very long way to go to get to where I want to be. Just keep practicing and it will come in time!
