    The Mavic Air has been creating a big buzz in the drone world this year. One question that comes up is: does it work with the DJI goggles? The answer is yes, but you have to do a couple of things to make it work. I show you how to make the Mavic Air work with the DJI goggles and take it for a test flight to see how well the goggles and Air work together!
    The main camera I use is the Panasonic Lumix FZ300

Also, a question which is not relevant to the goggles, when I used wi-fi for my tablet, the controller is no longer working? Is it normal and can that be changed? Also, I have an Android samsung tablet and it overheats when connected to the controller and i get "pixelation" can that be corrected (other than getting another tablet) Thanks

    Can you test the Mavic Air with the DJI Goggle headtracking? I have both myself, but turning on headtracking only seems to give me up/down tracking movement. I am desperately trying to figure out if this is a fault of my unit, a messed up setting, or just a limitation that DJI was never clear about. I called DJI Support and the two people I talked to seemed to know nothing about the Goggles, they kept having to re-reference notes and kept giving me instructions for a completely different menu structure than what I was seeing. Any help would be appreciated by ANYONE here! Thanks!

    My Goggles are missing pretty well all of the intelligent flight modes when flying with the Mavic Air. The only one I have is tap fly is this the same with yours? Also I hve no way to adjust the resolution it is stuck at 720P and the recording on the Mavic Air is limited to 1080P using the goggles. This is a big bummer if you actually want to record high qquality 4K content.

    Wondering if you noticed a lag from real time to actually seeing it inside the goggles. I only tried the Air/goggles combo once and felt there was pretty significant lag. Wondering if that's just how it is or if I missed some crucial setting. Thanks in advance!

    • @readysetdrone
      @readysetdrone  6 років тому

      Yes, there is some lag. If you are flying fast and through tight spaces I could see it being a problem. But for "everyday" flying, taking videos, etc, I don't notice it much. It's the same amount of lag as the phone gets, so if you want to see how much it is, try looking at the phone compared to the world around the drone, that should give you a good point of comparison. Thanks for the comment!

    • @Stiandragland
      @Stiandragland 6 років тому

      yes it got headtracking on regular goggles, but mine didnt look from side to side. Only up and Down. I Guess its the limitations of the gimball. Ofc you can turn left and right if u make the goggles as a Controller. Looking left, it will fly left etc

    • @RapidFireRetro
      @RapidFireRetro 6 років тому +1

      I had the same limitation... But I'm hearing mixed reports on if that is normal or not. From my understanding the gimbal should be able to track about 30 degrees left/right. but I have had no luck with it. I called DJI Support, but they were clueless, but they did acknowledge the movement should be more than Up/Down.

  • @TheTexasRunner
    @TheTexasRunner 6 років тому

    Thanks for sharing! Good to know that the Mavic Air is also controllable with DJI goggles.
    I’m also a Texan and am considering buying a drone, so your videos and analysis is very helpful. The one additional aspect I’m hoping you’ll cover are Texas’ anti-drone laws, which I’ve repeatedly read are the toughest in the USA. How, if at all, has this affected your drone flying in or around Austin, Texas?

    • @readysetdrone
      @readysetdrone  6 років тому

      Good question. So I have not ever had any problems. We even had some cops come over to us once while flying at Brushy Creek park. They said someone had complained (there were 3 of us flying), but they had observed us and didn't see any problems. They even took a selfie with us! Generally, I try to avoid flying too much in my neighborhood. I do fly alot of little toy drones in my back yard, but they don't go high and I stay in my back yard. I occasionally fly my Mavic up from my back yard, but do that less and less now. My advice is just to follow the rules, stay away from crowds, and try to fly in big open spaces and you should be fine. Other than the cops that one time, who ended up being very cool, I have never encountered any opposition to flying my drone. Texans are supposed to be friendly! Hope that helps!

    Anybody having DJI Goggles charging/connection issues out of the box? I'm using a MAC attempting to install the updated firmware as this gentleman describes. I was able to install the DJI Assistant v2 app, then open it, but because there does not seem to be a connection between the computer and goggles, nothing is happening. The app is at a standstill. Further, the green light near the headband charger input simply flickers green, then off, almost immediately. I have attempted charging/connection using a different cable, a different computer, and even attempted plugging into a live wall outlet.
    I've got a call in to my vendor support, waiting to hear back...... Anybody else? Comments? Thank you.

    Great video. I've been looking for something discussing the goggles with the Air. Couple small questions, can the air fly as far away as it normally could (using a phone) and keep a similar image or does it break up easier/sooner using the goggles? Also, are the goggles fully functional when using over the USB cable as they would be over wireless like with the Mavic Pro or are there less features when using them this way?

      I've had my Air for about 2 weeks and love it as a drone features and all and video quality.. Got the Goggles 2 days ago and to me the image quality even when holding the drone in hand doesn't seem that great... FIRST OFF THOUGH... I can't get the "HD" menu option to come up when connected to the Air.. (the thing that changes the modes from 720/30/60 and 1080/30.) Anyway.. even at 720/30 which has the least transmission bandwidth at even 50 feet away it has a SUPER high compression look to it like a crappy downloaded movie. With my Galaxy S5 phone I've flown almost a mile out and the screen has looked great. At less than 100 feet it starts breaking up compared to direct to the phone which seems odd since after all all we are really doing is bypassing the "video" output from the controller to the phone.... from the controller to the headset instead. Maybe partially what it is.. that having 720 that close just looks like crap, but here is the other thing I don't get.. While I haven't tried litche with a phone yet I HAVE used a crappy headset with other apps and my phone that close looked pretty darn good... My next test is Litche with my phone and google cardboard.
      So.. in this video you actually were able to use 1080?? If so can you access the HD menu with the controller connected or not? I can only see it when the goggles are NOT connected... and it won't allow a "change" to the setting till they are connected. I connect the goggles and then hit confirm... the menu goes away and so does the option for "HD"

    Was stuck with how to do this until watching the video however a few questions can you use both the goggles and your phone? And does the head tracking work to control the drone with the air

    When I use Air and the goggles it only shows Tapfly in the different flight mode settings. Is this the same for you?

      I did not check the flight modes, but I will. Thanks for the question.

    Will goggles RE also work with the air? There are mixed answers on forums. I am building an a small quad I’d like to also use with them.

    Hello I think you answered my question that the mavic air will not get a 1080p live view? I really like your videos.

    Hi. Normally I go on about safety, but not this time. Did you have flying dreams as a child? I did. Finally, finally, the technology can reproduce those and I suspect that it has a very poweful effect on the sub concious. These things should sell like hot cakes - I don't know the American expression - the -politicians might like to take note - more and more voters will take this up. Could become very addictive. Well done for showing it working. Very supportive for the hobby. Bob UK.

      I am an ex-airline and executive pilot, and also aerobatics pilot and drone pilot. Here is the chronological order in terms of what is the most fun type of flying, top being the best/most fun:
      Aerobatics / Bush flying
      Drone with goggles
      Executive Planes (G4SP and G550)
      Drone without goggles
      Airline Planes (B737/E190).
      Don't take me wrong, Airline flying is still fun, but my point is, as an experienced pilot, flying Drones with goggles is mad fun man !!!!
