I appreciate the this thought provoking video. As with most things, I believe the methods used to develop a nice swing really depends on your body type, your swing type (i.e. modern vs classic), etc... I was taught in the Sam Snead method and enjoy the feeling of pulling the club down with the last two fingers of my left hand. Since I use the classic swing method where I allow my left heal to naturally come off the ground at the top of the backswing, this pulling action becomes the trigger which helps plant my left heal firmly in the ground and into an almost chair sit position where my legs are now the engine. I then allow my wrists to naturally release at the bottom of the swing, leading my club head to hit through the ball along a path that ends in a high handed finish.

Merry Christmas Luther,is it correct to say a push is a hit with the right side arm and hand.Question is,does the left pull down by hands to waist level before the right hand swishes.

Hi Rob - it can be much simpler. Once you’ve made a full backswing you don’t have time to think during the backswing.
My preferred approach is to start the downswing with both hands with the intent to “send” the ball on your chosen line.
If you load fully and release fully the hip and leg action will happen instinctively.
In short - Prepare (mind) - Load (shoulders) - Release (hands)
Hope that helps and Happy New Year!

Luther, just to be clear, your hands and arms are not along for the ride? Rather, you actually swing them closely synchronized with the rotation of your knees, hips and torso? I enjoy your method of instruction! 🇨🇦

Hi - I believe that if you load fully and ignite the downswing with the hands and arms, the leg action and weight shift will instinctively lead the down swing.
Like a kid skimming g a pebble across a pond - his hips and legs would initiate their release- I call it a reflex anticipation.
Thanks for your question and for subscribing - please tell all your golfing buddies👍😇🏌️‍♂️

Having waffled on, my answer to the video title would be that if you are using good athletic motion/sequencing you will feel a pull on, or a fling of, your left arm, jBut if you have just swung your arms or heaved your body and tried to lag the club (complete opposite techniques!)you may have to pull with the left hand.

If i was using a tennis analogy i want the dynamic action of a serve, not a groundstroke where im absorbing energy and being more solid, most bad golfers are playing a stop volley!
Obviously the golf swing looks like a 2 handed fore hand but i would say imagine a baseball batter that decides to throw the bat at the pitcher!
Golf is a contradiction as yove got to knock the wall down and release!
Gold has altered my brain! i can now hit left handed backhands and a left handed rally in table tennis!

On my good strikes i would say my left chest/shoulder flings my arm off my chest. When i do right arm only strikes again its my Pec as well as my shoulder that controls and fires my arm.
The trouble with golf is how you use your right/left side in harmony thats why a 2 handed backhand is hard to learn as an adult.

When i was a bad golfer i would swing the club then turn now the club moves micro seconds after my chest.
For anybody thats interested i can give you a quick exercise that shows you the difference between swinging the clubhead and responding, muscular effort (most golfers) and athletic skill/motion.

Hi Graham - it’s always good to engage with a student of the game. The great diversity of theory, preference and implementation is endless.
The one thing that endures and is our plum line is the ball flight laws - however we cut it, the ball flight laws demand certain principles - so however we choose to teach or play the shot required is the thing that allows us to make sense of all types of swing from Furyk to Oosthuizen, Tiger to you and me.
This is the reason that I teach the shot not the swing.
Thanks again for your interest and input - keep it coming. Kind regards,
      Luther,

@@lutherblacklockgolfcom I do use your method of walking round the circle for fades and draws,Tho i now find it easier to draw when a cpl of years ago a fade was my go to shot, frustrating game!
In fact the only reliable time i can feel the arc/plane of my swing is at transition hitting a draw, maybe this is cos its the slowest part of the swing, maybe thats why you invented Explanar as i can connect to straight lines not circles!
My 3 keys for good golf are Setup, Sequencing and Stability, keep it simple stupid!( most dismiss the importance of set up prob cos its boring!)
I feel im swinging/ striking the best ive ever done and am confident of shooting mid-high 70s even on course i havent played b4 (obv not off monster back tees)
Due to the 3 Ss i can now get/feel the weight of the club into the grip/hands and keep it there for a long time
My 1st move enables me to incorporate the hogan waggle (he pushes the butt forward) by creating space pushing slightly down
The biggest change/improvement (apart from set up) is how i use/load my Pecs to load/control and fire my arms, i would classify them as part part of my shoulders!
