The Dutch style is actually a bit similar to the Mexican style boxing. Power punching with a tight defensive guard and a strong base with combinations like the inside slip overhand and liver hooks. Except Dutch has the added low kick at the end of the combo w/ a little bit of switch kicks and knees mixed in. If you compare Mike zamibidis to someone like Isaac Cruz it’s pretty similar. Not identical but from a high level it’s an aggressive in your face style with methodical ring cutting that’s very intimidating and lookin to take your lights out

I love boxing, kickboxing and Muay Thai.
I did boxing as a kid at the police boys club, kickboxing as a teenager and again for 6 years in my 20's & early 30's and now i'm doing boxing & Muay Thai again in my 40's.
I love them all.Kickboxing and Muay Thai are probably better though, although i enjoy it when i go to boxing sessions.

The gym I go to brought some boxers in which was a blast. The one (and probably only) thing they said I was good at was switching my stance from orthodox / southpaw back and forth. From what I understand karate dudes / some kickboxers tend to do that.

Truth, I like boxing, not much kicking, but I joined kickboxing to enhance more features in my body and to be able to defend myself against not only punchs since I do not choose what to get hit by but only what to hit with (in the perspective of self defense).

Im a boxer and the gym i train at is also a kickboxing gym . My coach is a world champion in kickboxing and some of the boxers i trained with transitioned into kickboxing and they all told me sense they started throwing kicks that there core stregnth has improved more from throwing the kicks . And there conditioning has also imporved.

These are very good points Gabe and I cannot contradict you. I am a kickboxing practitioner (for recreation) and I believe that in a pure boxing match a boxer defeats a kickboxer most of the time. This is the reason, that I spend a great deal of time practicing boxing basics. Your defense class supports me in this endeavor greatly. Thank you so much for your time and effort🙏

Hi, thank you for interesting video and I really love your channel! I have done boxing for 10 years and now moved to muay thai.
For the balance and body conditioning I can relate 100%. The footwork is much more grounded and it is much harder for me to hold the position. Also I get troubles exchanging body shots, especially when knees come in play.
However, with other two points I have opposite experience. Never had problems passing the guard. Speed, precision of the strikes, and combining hooks with uppercuts always did the trick for me. The problem of getting to invested in boxing is getting punished by low kick in lead leg, or kick to the liver. With the intensity I find boxing rounds notably faster and therefore more intense. Being used to it does give an advantage, but it is never only the cardio. To know how to use your resources and when you can relax I find equally, if not more important.

I learned Muay Thai and K1 for about 6 years before trying my hand at boxing. I was also complimented on my strong shelled guard hah. I also found my cardio was great if I was flat footed throwing combos until I started to dabble more into in and out footwork, that made me gas out really quick.

I'd also add the physique it gives you. Most aesthetically pleasing in my eyes. huge legs, toned abs, sculpted back chest and arms. Lean but not too learn, muscular but not too big. Turns you into a greek statue. I think it's better for the average person to do kickboxing a few times a week over lifting weights. better results, healthier and safer to be honest.

I can definetly say this is true for me Gabriel because overall I feel like my body has toughened up so much since I started training Kickboxing because we take so much impact to the thighs body shins and all that and even the dutch guard too it keeps us Kickboxers very safe from massive shots landing through which we do not see enough of in boxing because they only use hands there is no danger of the feet or knees coming their way but in the end I think Boxing is an amazing sport and if Kickboxing fails one day, which I hope it will not because I love Kickboxing so much as a whole I will definetly switch to boxing then Gabriel but an amazing video as always!

gabriel, excellent video! I would love to ask you something that you mentions halfway through the video. I practice muay thai and I have heard countless times about shin conditioning and how to do it properly (mostly through running and resistance training) instead of destroying your bone and going through unnecessary pain by hitting hard things. but I never heard anyone talking about how to condition your musculature to absorb strikes better. earlier this month I got a sparring session with the guys from another gym and for some reason almost everyone tried to chop my leg off 😅
most of the times they weren't going hard but at least 3 guys suddenly just kicked my leg WAY harder than I could handle, even with shin guards. I spent the next two days limping and thinking if I could get more resistance only by getting more muscle in the area or if, for example, taking controlled strikes with some regularity could also "harden" the region. I know that this is a terrible idea for bones, but I don't know if there is some kind of specialized conditioning for areas covered with muscle. I would love if you could touch this topic!

    • @maxrez609
      @maxrez609 Місяць тому +1

when it comes to low kicks the thing i did was just getting low kicked alot and sure enough i can handle leg kicks now better than before just from getting hit by them and just so you know its normal to accidently hit someone WAY harder than you did before or you maybe hit them hard without realizing it and then they thought you were trying to prove a point or they could just have kicked your legs hard on purpose
the short answer is that if you want to be able to tank the low kicks then you have to get hit by them alot for conditioning while also training your muscles of course

I love this video, and even I have gotten blow back from expressing these facts. I pretty much made a post on FB saying, “Kickboxers” are more intuitive than “Boxers” because they have more to watch out for. Especially if you’re a kickboxer that incorporates Muay Thai, or Lethwei in your arsenal. I love the sweet science, and respect boxers especially as a Sugar Ray Leonard and Gervonte Tank Davis fan.

Grappling is often described as an entirely different gas tank and at a certain point both athletes are pushing human limits in terms of training hours; of one is splitting between an irrelevant pursuit and the other is min maxing on the chosen rules it's going to be a definite advantage.

Kickboxing makes you better (compared to boxing):
    00:00 - Intro
00:48 - At Footwork (Because you are more used to standing on one leg, because of kicks)
02:24 - Toughness on the Body (because more body training, bare-knuckle, and kicks to body)
05:25 - Better Guard (Because you are more blocking than evading)
06:40 - Pace (Usually a lot higher and more demanding on stamina, so you get better at it)
    My addition:
You obviously get better at kicking at kickboxing compared to boxing.
