This video was enough to convince me to order one (which I just did). I was really wary, because the reviews of the PAL version of this device were not good. I was especially worried about there being a soft video image on the SNES side, which seems to be apparent on every other HD SNES clone right now. This seems pretty clean, at least by comparison.

A quite decent Genesis/Mega Drive clone from China is the Fei Hao SEGA Mega Drive. It has some shortcomings (only mono sound, no switch for the aspect ratio), but otherwise it is a decent system if you want to capture/stream gameplay w/o an Framemeister or OSSC or just play your old cartridges on a modern flat screen TV. It even works with the Everdrive (not the Mega ED v1 though, all later models are supported).

Estaran I know about the mono issue, but I heard the sound in general is really bad, like every other Gen clone. Is that true?

I think the main complaint I'd point out, is the sound on the SNES side of things. It sounds slightly overdriven, which if you're playing a game on the SNES that's known for its soundtrack, it might be a turn-off.

Sounds fine to me. I have this and the original SNES and the sound is pretty much identical on both.

Why did the games have a bit of purple hue to them? Knuckles and Ducktales looked off.

I only noticed Knuckles with the purple hue when he was underwater, which is normal.

Since this has av out,and can be hooked up to a CRT has anyone checked light gun games? I tried on my Super Retro Trio Plus,but there is lag in duck hunt and you cannot play it. It is just my system or is it all Super Retro Trio Plus systems that cannot play light gun games.

I still have my NES and Super NES and my other consoles. How come people don't want the original consoles? They are just as easy to get. People are spending more on clone consoles than the original thing. Seems as though it would only save money if there was a 15-system in 1 console or something like that. The old consoles look great on my HD tv also, but I guess every TV is different.

It costs $80 on the site he mentioned. Getting an NES, SNES, and Genesis can be expensive, especially if purchased with a bunch of controllers and games (some of which are probably never going to be played). Additionally newer TVs are eschewing analog inputs for digital. Finding a TV-compatible combo console like this is a lot easier to purchase all in one go and hook up with newer equipment. That also makes this a good system for a kid who wants to dabble in old games.

I am looking into one of these systems and... have all these consoles. I even have a CRT, but all this stuff is taking up space. My NES sometimes is iffy on some carts, it's over 30 years old now, my SNES power plug has to sit just right or might die 45 minutes into a game which is a huge piss me off... I'm now on my 2nd one of these. My wife hates the CRT screen... Too many wires and plugs going on on the side. This and many other reasons. My NES looks great on HDTV, my SNES looks terrible and has diff colors than the CRT, really bad and has no feng shui at all with our place. If I was a teenager or in my 20s I wouldn't care about this stuff, I'm almost 40 and married... that stuff needs to look CLEAN and nice setup, no cords running everywhere, wall mounted tv, etc. I think a lot of people into this stuff are in my boat. I think this might be finally there. I have no interest in running emulation like retron 5, or using these new controllers, or nes or snes classics. My collection is worth hundreds, well probably thousands of dollars...needs to be displayed and work properly every time and look clean AF/more adult.

because these new retro consoles are cheaper, more convenient and play just as well as the originals. unless you still have an nes, snes and genesis from your childhood, these are pretty good alternatives. i personally dont have any new retro systems since i still have my snes and others but im looking to buy one of these new ones because they are surprisingly cheap. my big hdtv also has the option to fix the ratio :)

I have the new black/blue version called the "Galaxy Edition". It seems to be the same black/blue console that was released in Europe, but with the video output changed from PAL to NTSC. The audio is strange in that the composite av-out has stereo sound, but the HDMI-out still only has mono sound. My old white/red version has mono sound on both the composite av-out and HDMI-out. I can't find any mention of this version anywhere, not even on Retro-bit's website. I just randomly saw some on ebay a few weeks ago.

4:3 ratio switch? 16:9 is terrible. My TV does not have an option to correct a screen size.

yeah theres no switch on the console for aspect ratio. Its going to do whatever your tv decides to do. Its outputting it how its supposed to but if your tv forces it to 16:9 and you cant change to 4:3 then you will be stuck in 16:9 only. The tv I used to record displays it as 4:3, my other tv displays as 16:9 less I force the Tv to change to 4:3. Would be nice to have a switch to have the system force it for sure.

killbotkillbotkill Everything but NES. NES on a chip clone consoles rarely work with flashcarts. SNES and Sega are fine.

Is it the capture that makes the frame rate bad?? Why is it that all HD third party systems have bad frame rate? I still think megadrive performs alot better on my 14" crt

I love my Retron 5 but the controller sucks and it won’t work with my snes controllers. I hope the new wireless genesis controllers work on this or the Retron 5.

I just got this console and so far the nintendo licensed tetris game is just a black screen, famicom afterburner is all garbled and super famicom yoshis island says its not compatible on with this console. Switches and regions dont seem to make a difference and the games work perfectly everywhere else. Anyone having these problems?

Everything is awesome on these but the video aspect ratio really kills it. It makes all the games look really blown out and thin. The multi carts I can deal with but that ratio thing is horrible.
Just got mine and they dropped the ball on omitting aspect control.
What a bummer. I'm sure the next model will have it.

I'm surprised how well the Sega Genesis Sonic gameplay sounds. The jump and ring grab sounds are always screwed up on clones. Is there a load time or does it boot straight away like the original consoles?

A lot of these clones are moving towards software emulation as faster chips get cheaper. Building a 1:1 hardware clone was difficult and probably deemed unnecessary, but getting good software emulation should be easier nowadays. It looks like this is a hardware clone. I wasn't sure by the way you presented the games whether the system did some extra work before the game.

I wish reviewers would invest in flash carts for their channels. This is a top question asked in every single clone console review and only a few reviewers actually test flash carts out. I know it isn't cheap but sometimes I don't want to watch 10 reviews of a product before I get the answers I was looking for. I own the original non HD version of this console and it worked with the Sega, and SNES flash carts perfectly fine. I'm assuming it'll be the same for this as well since it's basically the same console just with HDMI support. I hear the NES flash carts don't work. I'm not 100% sure though. I saw someone on youtube playing with an NES flash cart on their original SRT. Maybe it depends which flash carts you use. I have to look up a few more reviews to confirm that.
