I feel like we really need to see a Clone Console of the TurboGrafx-16 and Sega Master System (with SG-1000 added in) since we keep seeing much NES, SNES, & Sega Genesis clones keep coming. I do have the Mega Retron HD and an official NES already.

If I'm not mistaken, there's the adapter that fit into the Mega Drive cartridge slot where you can play Master System (if it's Mark III cartridge), Game Gear and SG-1000.
It works on other clone consoles too.

I dunno I know it’s a solid cheap option, but in the retro community if it can’t play a NES Everdrive it’s kinda a deal breaker for me. Also I feel they should include a game genie these days which comes in handy for some games particularly on the NES. So in summary especially for NES just get a Retro USB AVS which gives you great quality FPGA for an affordable price.

I would think that the black speckles with the multicart are almost definitely power-related. The Nt Mini Noir does the exact same thing when an Everdrive N8 Pro if you don't enable a power setting in the Nt Mini's menu, so I'd guess that this console just doesn't have support for whatever that conversion is. Thanks for covering this thing!

Yep, the weak points you listed are really my only main complaints, though I kind of figured the N8 Pro wouldnt work as it doesnt work on any of these types HDMI clone consoles that I have tested before. NES sound isn't horrible, just noticeable to me that its not what I am used to. Some NES games I dont notice it as much though, but for sure there is a variation.

@@2012JvN it kind of does matter. Without it many tvs will stretch the image to fill the screen, which is the same with old consoles on new tvs. If your tv doesnt have a 4:3 mode typically it will fill the screen. Lot of newer tvs dont have that option. And of course on a crt you wouldn't need to worry about changing aspect ratio, but on modern tvs you do. This switch makes it easy.

Considering the size of these specific retro gaming consoles, most of their surface area is going to be dedicated to cartridge slots, then controller ports secondly if your including ports from multiple systems, with that in mind, I'd love to see one built for NES, SNES, N64, Masters, Genesis and possibly TG-16 and corresponding controller ports.
THEN... 6 months later release a DVD drive that fits into an expansion port on the side that allows Sega CD, Saturn, PS1, PS2, Dreamcast, Game Cube and TG-16 CD with additional controller ports for those systems.
AND THEN just to get REAL crazy, release an attachment that clips into an expansion port behind the DVD flip top drive (meaning you'd have to have the original deck as well as the DVD expansion before you could use this) that allows Game Boy, GB Colour, GB Advance games.
I guess just go ahead and make it look like the Genesis with the CD and 32X addons already cause were all thinking that by now. =P
It just seems to me if were going to build devices like this then someone needs to build something REALLY eye catching and outrageous.

Always wondered how big the market for these are, I have a bunch of 8 and 16 bit cartridges but I would figure anyone like me who has physical software would also have a better option for playing them then these as the software is the more expensive part. I still like to use original hardware if I bust out the actual cartridges but I mostly emulate for the convenience nowadays.

    • @joes4194
      @joes4194 2 роки тому +1

It's a niche market but it's there. I have a similar trio clone to this. It gave me an HD option while also allowing me to build multiple cart libraries at the same time that I can play while I waited for good/fair deals in the consoles themselves. The clone allows me to play multiplayer on the HD big screen because in 2022, nobody want to huddle together around a 27 inch CRT to game together.
These are an acceptable HD option that is much cheaper than the Analog offerings.

    • @SmallSpoonBrigade

These days, there are a bunch of hardware options for dumping those cartridges to disk. I can personally dump most of the formats that ever caught on in the US if I want to, so even if I don't care to pull my consoles out, I can easily play on RetroPie without having to hunt down ROMs.
I personally find that the controller is the main part of the experience that I miss with emulation, so I have adapters for original controllers.

NES audio is wonky because the original nintendo made NES sound chip is based on a MOS chip, but works differently. The pirates that created clones such as Dendy used the normal MOS chips so the sound was off. It was the best you could have done with off the shelf parts in the early 90s.

Just got this the other day. I also have the Super Retro Trio Plus and the Retron 3 HD. All SNES games whether it's original cart, repro cart, multicart, Super Everdrive or FX Pak Pro, displays speckles of black lines on the upper right side of the screen. You can also see it in this video when Super Mario World is running. Load up the 240p Test Suite on a flashcart and on the white test pattern you can clearly see it. Every few seconds there are random speckles of black lines. I also have the same NES multicart but I didn't get any black speckles on SMB3. Everdrive N8 Plus (clone) doesn't work, so the regular N8 probably doesn't work. Krzysio Cart seems to be the only NES flashcart that works. Audio on SNES and Genesis are in mono through HDMI but are in stereo through AV out (but the L/R channels are reversed). Virtua Racing and SMS games work (tested through Mega Everdrive Pro). PAL region setting on Genesis doesn't work correctly (screen blinks/scrolls vertically). No region switch for NES. The included controllers are interesting. The extra 2 buttons are useable for SNES/Genesis. On SNES games when set to N, Z=SNES L and C=SNES R. On Genesis games when set to S, L=Genesis Z and R=Genesis C. On NES games when set to N, X=NES B and A=NES A. When set to S, A=NES A and B=NES B. Overall not as good as the Retron 3 HD which has correct stereo through HDMI and N8 compatibility. It does have a better NES color palette than Retron 3 HD and plays SMS games correctly in NTSC mode. It's slightly better than Super Retro Trio Plus for the aspect ratio switch, but the black speckles on SNES games might be annoying.

The major problem with Analogue is that they don't keep anything in stock. They make stuff, sell it, then your out of luck unless you're willing to pay a LOT of money on the secondary market. The only way that model makes sense, is if they keep some of the produced stock and are selling it at huge markups on the secondary market themselves. Otherwise, they'd be incentivized to produce more units.

For the most part it's fine, but some games like some of the NES ports to GBC aren't pleasant to play. I just this week bought a refurbed Dell optiplex 3050 mff with 1 year warranty for 100 bucks. Runs everything up to gamecube and wii. Awesome. Batocera runs well on harddisk.

I recently learned why the sound is off on nes-on-a-chip consoles. Apparently the first clone got the duty cycles wrong and every clone based on that original clone never fixed it.

I remember having a conversation some years ago with a higher up at a company that produces these things.. he had told me pretty much any company making these things no matter the brand winds up getting the boards for these systems made from the same factory, sometimes with minor alterations but all still based on the same chipset. So this sounds very likely that its just been noone bothering to reinvent the chipset for NES clones and all just use the same thing.

It's the Super Nintenesis! That's a shame about the NES sound. Most cheap clone consoles can't even output HDMI on NES for some reason. I guess it couldn't be perfect. Super Nintendo and Genesis seem to sound ok from what I hear in the video and the picture quality isn't bad. A extra bad thing on NES is that the A and B buttons reversed on those cheap controllers. I think it looks OK for SNES and Genesis.

as someone who still owns all of their original SNES games and wants to play & stream games on a replica system with HDMI capabilities, what would be the best recommendation for both availability & price? Not really giving a budget, just looking for something that can have Quality + Performance etc. for someone who wants to revisit the SNES era again without the use of emulators.

    • @Madlittlepixel

Availability is the difficult part. But here are my recommendations if you can find them. Original 1 chip SNES with RAD2X cable for HDMI or paired with Retrotink 5x PRO & SNES HD Retrovision cables, or an Analogue Super NT... those would be my pics for quality/performance. Other options would be Hyperkin Retron5 which is emulation, uses your original carts and dumps the rom and plays, can be a useful system for backing up saves from your carts if needing to replace batteries, can put saves back to cart, visual quality is good.
