- In this video I scrap a computer power supply to see what it's worth.
First I see what it's worth as aluminum breakage. Then I scrap the entire thing to see how much more it's worth.

Great video James! Always fun scrapping small stuff. Glad the videos are back after last weekend! God bless and have a great week
Thank you brother!
God bless and have a wonderful week.
Another video he’ll love. The little guy told me he likes your videos “bestest” because, you take out all the screws and you’re really nice. Since he got his first power tool for Christmas, we live with, no screw left behind. He’ll even put a couple back to have more to take out. Thank you for the videos. He loves them, and strives to earn 10 minutes of a video. God bless you.
That’s so cool. I can picture him taking screws out and putting them back in lol.

Hello!
You’re welcome, thank you for watching!
🙏
I'm an advocate for scrapping those ferrite transformers but I think it's easier to unwind the tape. Thank you for the credit on the mosfet method my brother.
I did do the math once and for my prices, I’m only gaining like 2 cents.
You’re welcome brother.
@scrapitall200 yeah the math say it isn't worth it but I just like building the copper pile 😉
That I can understand brother. I love collecting the stuff and seeing the buckets fill up. I used to scrap those, but now I am blessed with so much more scrap, they get the boot 😂
I like the way you the people that have the patience how to break apart the small things and the calculation of it all. I really love the prayer at the end. Thank you for your work❤

You’re welcome!

Yeah there’s something very relaxing about micro scrapping, lot of fun.
James, I've never had one of these but both of my local yards don't buy e-waste as it is so this is a tremendous help
@@MrFingerboardmaker ok good, glad my video was helpful. Yeah my yard doesn’t either, so I’m definitely scrapping them lol.
Exellent breakdown, thank you for sharing. I really like that you out all the different numbers in the video so people don't have to sit with a converter to get an idea of what things are worth =)

Hey scrapitall I wanted to say this video was very informative and I learned a lot from this thank you for all you do bring such great light on this hobby and teach everyone and showing how much fun it is to save the environment and making the most money out of the items keep up the great work I’m proud of you
@@MatthewBridges-c4e thank you very much my friend, I really appreciate your kind and encouraging words!
Them plug connectors can be done the same as plug soup. Old kettle is the best awesome episode brother
@@empirefinds thats counter productive imo. The amount of brass that can be recovered is minimal at best and then factor in the cost to boil water, it’s a losing effort imo.
The weight of the plastic being thrown into the shred with the pins comes out to about the same value. Clean brass vs shred.
I'm not sure about the plastic but the rubbery plug end ones it helps a lot. When it's cold I put'em in a paint can and set them in front of my little heater for a bit with out water even and they pull right out😊
@@GeeWhizical those I put out in the hot sun and that works great. I did a video on plug soup and I used propane to boil the water and after factoring in the cost of propane I used, it wasn’t worth it. But I know European plugs are different which is where Empire Finds lives.
If you can use the heat of the sun that will soften them up really well
@scrapitall200 thanks for the heads up. Saving $during summer time too👏
@@GeeWhizical I have a video where I use a reflective shield and a piece of glass. Kind of like a solar oven. That helps during these colder months when the sun is out. But yes, summertime heat is when I do the bulk of mine.
Good job my friend

My friend I have a three inch gasket scraper. Thats what I use on those boards. I strip them clean
@@richardhulbert9480 nice! 👍
I just did a run to the scrapyard yesterday.
I had four hundred and ninety four pounds of lawnmower motors
A hundred and six pounds of aluminum radiator
a hundred and sixtys three pounds of battery
A 196 pounds of aluminum cans
Add some miscellaneous aluminum.
I had just under a half a ton of materials
I walked out with three hundred and thirty dollars
I still have approximately 3 ton of steel that needs to go.
But that's monday's job🤠
Nice buddy 👍
@scrapitall200 👍🤠
What do they pay you for lawnmower motors?
@scrapitall200 my scrapyard calls it heavy iron. And they pay $0.15 a pound. I also i have approximate 3 ton of steel going between Monday and Tuesday.🤠
@ oh cool, that’s a great price.
Sweet buddy.
Excellent video as always!! The other day I had my first capacitor discharge and brother, it scared me so much! It magnetized my side cutters and melted the edges of the blades. It was a big flat screen TV and hadn't been plugged in for a whole day. From now on I use a well insulated screwdriver and go over everything to discharge any residual power. Be careful and happy scrapping!
Thank you!
Yeah they can hold a charge for quite some time. Definitely be safe my friend. Glad you’re ok.
Ok, when you say to discharge capacitors. I’d like to know how. I know they can be charged if they’ve recently been unplugged. How long do they need to be unplugged for? Does it matter how big the capacitors are? I think we’re good, since we get the items from a thrift store, then he scraps 3-5 items a week. But I’d really hate to have an issue because my scrapper is 5 years old.
@ it’s only with big capacitors like from microwaves or large electronic devices.
Few days should be enough. On modern stuff there is a thing connected to the capacitor that’s supposed to drain the stored up electricity.
I’m all my years of scrapping I’ve never once found a charged capacitor.
Search on UA-cam how to discharge capacitors, it’s quite easy. I don’t have a video on them.
The capacitors on this board, they are completely find to touch, obviously if it’s unplugged lol.
@@jwall6006 this was unplugged for at least a day. I cut the things next to the capacitor to get the transformer and POP!! went the weasel and nearly caused me a heart attack. I'm not entirely sure what capacitor it was because it discolored the entire area of board. My side cutters are back to normal and I wasn't hurt so God was watching.
That’s wild. I’ve not heard of that happening before.
Was it a plasma screen tv?
Interesting video mate. Cheers Graham
@@theaussienurseflipper.8113 thank you buddy
@scrapitall200 have you had many people enter your competition? I'm still thinking about entering it as the postage would be pretty high to Australia, for u. I was thinking, have you thought about turning an old gas bottle into a wood burner. Saw a guy from England who did one and he had a cup warmer on the side of it to keep his tea warm. You're very pretty cheap if you know how to weld or had a mate who welded. Cheers Graham
Yeah quite a few which is awesome. Don’t worry about the cost, if you want to enter please do. This is my way of giving back to everyone for helping my channel grow.

Oh wow! Well your secret is safe with me 😆
My yard pay's .26lb with no wire & 1.15lb for the wire.
Nice buddy
Proof that scrapping this sort of stuff is simply not worth it on a small scale. Consider all the time, wear on your gloves and tools and storage for it all along with the cost to get it to the scrap merchant and you are losing big time. However what you are doing is good in terms of recycling and a hobby but I think one needs to be considerably more discerning about what one scraps. Having said all that its a very good and accurate break down of the actual value so its a very valuable lesson to those considering this
@@campbellmorrison8540 I have a lot of fun scrapping and I cannot put a value on that, but I understand for others it might not be worth it. Thank you for watching.
@@scrapitall200 I scrap stuff too and enjoy discovering what's inside stuff and how its constructed so I know exactly what you mean. Me too buddy, love micro scrapping.
Those are capacitors. I don’t mess with them, takes way too many to make a pound. Some yards will buy them as aluminum breakage, but mine wont lol.

You’re better off spending time on your gold
13:18 if you are unlucky enough and you have a pile of these don’t accidentally put them on your bbq grill with couple chunks of burning wood the next day you end up with nothing left but copper.
Lot of scrap yards wont buy burned copper, including mine.
I purchased a burnt vehicle from county auction so have paperwork if not they would not take it…also just slip a couple balls (5-6lbs) in middle of barrel average weight runs around 155 lbs each. Take in 3 or 4 when I make trip. It is 400 miles each way so I hold onto it until either I visit grandkids ( they live 200 miles past the scrap yard. My largest trip had 3800 lbs. edit. They know about the burnt stuff, they just asked me to spread it around
