Possibly the best amateur video ever on UA-cam. No distracting music is great. Finally someone is smart enough to do a voiceover. No one else seems to have enough brains to outsmart wind/traffic/background noise.
Excellent video. Thank you. I've been looking pretty hard at the dark room tent on the right and thanks to your video I avoided disappointment. The tent on the left clearly blocks light better, which is a huge deal for summer camping in Alaska. Also in poking around I discovered that Coleman makes a version of the left tent that has a handy full floor screen room called Carlsbad. The screen porch is a good place to chill away from bugs or to just store your packs or other gear.
Thanks for not making a movie! No BS no special intro trying to be a movies star. Considering the dark room as well. And after seeing this I’m glad to see the differences. That “hub” system would be the deal breaker on either for me. They’re 100% junk! It will eventually break. And it’s stupid expensive to replace that plastic hub. Threw away my Coleman because of that hub. It’s almost as much as a new (cheap) tent. Great video!!!!
TY so much for this video and for showing the inside and comparison! I wanted to purchase the one on the right and saw another person commenting on another vid re: the bottom half being too bright and she was disappointed too. Shame on Coleman for that! Also, their rainproof test boasts of NO water coming in so may have to continue my search as where we go camping they have year round heavy rainfall and sudden torrential downfalls with cellular throttling so not getting proper or timely notifications of upcoming weather doesn’t help so need reliable brands and equipment! Thanks for saying you’re not sponsored or advertising for Coleman 🤗
I bought this one from Costco and while the first layer is the same as the one on the right (blueish one), now the top cover goes down to the ground(it has been fully redesigned apparently) and thus I have full dark except at the two sides where there are widows since it does not make a double layer.
My sister has a 4 person Dark Room SkyDome (like the blue one in this video but the SkyDome version) and it is pitch black in that tent, you cant even tell its daylight when inside.
I fucking knew it!! Thank you so much for this video! Got the bright blue supernova room tent (on right) thinking I had bought the dark room tent (on left) only to set it up and...BAMBOOZLED. Gonna return this POS and get the correct one (neon green canopy). Thanks again for putting up this video! Very informative! I subscribed
Yes and their rain fly falls short too as it should cover the entire tent! Does anyone know if u can improvise and use another rain fly so protected since it leaks a little unlike Coleman boasts? 🤪🥴😏
@@RaiseYourVibes333 a big tarp (not cheap blue crap, i mean a good bushcraft style, like a dd tarp. Can give good cover of entire tent and if you get a big enough, will give you a nice porch/awning space too.
Still a great tent! Can’t be too picky when camping lol. I have the blue 6 person sundome and it has no light coming in at night. I never understood why people want it blacked out dark during the day. Who’s sleeping during the day on a camping trip lol. You made a good purchase
I wonder if that separated cover that goes on top of this tent- somehow helps in lowering temperatures as the sun rises in the morning? Most tents are just one-piece as the sun hits it directly. This separated top hovering above feels a bit like a "shade canopy". It's too close to the tent, but...maybe it does something...?
I believe most if not all dome tents have the same set up. The mosquito barrier(also called bath tub) with the poles and then the rain fly over it. Some backpacking tents are single wall, but depending on conditions, condensation forms inside the tent. The double wall like this one drives condensation away from the bath tub/sleeping area.
Are you sure you are not comparing the "DarkRoom" tent with the "Sundae" tent both have the DarkRoom technology but two different tents with varying levels of sun block.... i could be wrong but looking at both of those now...
Both boxes showed 90% light blocking. Regardless of the name, the low grade version was defective or had a gross advertising error. I just hope buyers will be more informed. I actually have pictures of both boxes.
@@usaryder74 absolutely! I live in Arizona. It was very very important for me to have DARK, and supposed heat block. I pitch my tent and stay outdoors on my property, occasionally,to let people know that the property is occupied, and to let 4 legged predators( and 2 legged ones:), that the place has an owner, you are spot on! Both are advertised as the SAME! They are not!! Great review!!!
The one on the right is garbage. I bet it falls apart in higher wind situations. Allmost just bought it if I had not seen you review as there are 3 or 4 different version of these same tents now. Would be nice to see how yours are holding up.
You would think, before someone would post a review on a tent, they would know how to set it up. Tent is not staked properly! Read the instructions next time!
Really? We were done with camping. Ready to go home before the final take down. That is when I shot the video. Ps, the video is not teaching how to set up a tent. It is a side by side comparison mostly focused on the dark room feature differences. I guess you are a half empty type person.

Your English was good my dude, thanks for learning so you can teach us all about these types of things.
Great video! Was trying to decide between the two and you just made up my mind for me! Black/green dark room it is!

Great video!!!!
The fast pitch version doesn’t have the dark material the full way down but the regular (non fast pitch version) is black out the full way down.

Great video of the 2 tents. Well it really helped me out on my decision, getting the darker tent ,

Thank you very much for the comparison here. It might explain why Costco doesn't carry the blue one anymore.
Thank you good review Even on Amazon the blue ones four people and up is 1 to 2 months delivery the green one next day!!
Well damn it... I got the one from Costco but want the super dark one. 😩
Call Coleman, they may help you. Good company.
Thanks to ur video I purchased the tent u recommend. Thank u so much for ur great video!!!

I noticed the blue nights tents are hard to find
Thank you for a great comparison!
Bought mine at REI. Expected the green and grey, but received the blue one.
I carry a sleep mask
What was the price difference on the two tents, if I may ask.
About 40 bucks at the time.
I just got the blue one from a pawnshop, brand new, for $90. I guess I can tolerate it's shortcomings.

looks like Amazon sells one that looks like the blue Costco one but it doesn't label it Dark Room Technology anymore.
Thanks for the video, very helpful for my search!

Thanks for the comparison
Your English is fine brotha, thank you for your review :)
Great informative review!
_Awesome video, love it, this is exactly what I was looking for. thanks again!_
These are two different models of tent
how does it do keeping heat out?
Same as all tents. With the open vents.
I feel is cooler anyway.
But I don't live in Florida to really feel the heat. I am in the Northeast
Great video well done
Very nice review.
I don't shop at membership stores, and so glad I don't.
good review ,I just have the green.thank for clip.
the blue one is at all sporting good stores ive been to

So far both are holding up the same. The only real practical difference is the amount of light coming in.
Great review.
Agree, disappointing by the Costco version.
Great review thank you!
Well done. Thank you.
Skydome VS Sundome …They are slightly different.
Thanks for the video
😍
Thanks!
To bad for the kids 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Once u go dark room u never go back .

Wow, costco fail ha ha ha
Yeah it’s probably better because it’s black😂
