    I love it. I just brought a triton and been looking for ideas for a setup for drawers. I'm gonna give this a go.

    I mounted a set of drawers I made out of bunnings construction ply in my ute tub today, I drilled through the bottom of tub and used T-Nuts hammered into top of the base of the frame and bolted it down. However it's still interesting to see a different way of doing it with make-a-bracket and a base that fits well. I feel if you were 4wding your drawers may rattle around a bit though! Maybe use some flat bar steel instead and bend it to shape, would be much more solid than the pliable make-a-bracket. Nice video!

    Maybe some uprights made out of framing timber to lock the tray down by sitting on top of tray and tight up against underside of the lip at the top of the tub? The timber uprights could have the protruding section cut on an angle so they could be extended to underside of canopy roof and a set of crossbraces running across underside of roof and along length of roof, tying all four uprights together. This could then act as a brace for adding roof racks and load to the top of a fibre glass canopy.

    Use cardboard to make a template that follows the curve of the wheel arches for a professional and snug finish. If the cardboard is long enough you can use it to decide where the ply should end in relation to the tailgate. Once you have one side templated it can be flipped over and used for the opposite wing. I measured my tubs dimensions and only needed to attach one wing (the RH side) to the main board making sure the main piece was the one that was going to hold the majority of the weight. (In my case the fridge slide and draw as I wanted maximum space on top of my draw and the RH wing for storage) use a jigsaw to follow the curves of your cut and pay attention to which is the straightest edge on the ply for when it comes time to carpet, this will allow you to keep the lines straight if using marine carpet. Make sure to leave at least 50mm on all edges when carpeting and use a high temp contact adhesive and staples (on the underside) for a long lasting bond. Most importantly enjoy the project.
    Handy hint : it pays to consider the next couple of steps ahead of the one you are doing and to visualise your outcome by putting any draws or slide in the tub prior so as to know where you want them to sit once the project is finished. Cheers.

    Hey mate, how has this held up to date? Considering doing something similar to allow me to remove most of the kit pretty easily when not in use. Any warping etc?

    • @TheInsightDistrict
      @TheInsightDistrict  Рік тому +1

      while i had it in there, there was no warping and it did exactly what i wanted. i upgraded to a canopy so i ended up taking it out

    Nice ... I was thinking of doing the same thing to install a fridge slide with a 75L fridge... how did you go with the movement at the back .. was there any rattle etc when driving ?

    • @TheInsightDistrict
      @TheInsightDistrict  2 роки тому +3

      because i have it pushed all the way to the back and mounted at the front. the weight of the drawers hold it down and there is no rattle. if you have a roller shutter make sure you take into consideration the height of the slide + plywood when working out the overall height of the fridge

    Have you tried this off-road would it move around a lot

    • @TheInsightDistrict
      @TheInsightDistrict  Рік тому

      nah the weight keeps it down and it is secured at the front, plus between the wheel wells it is a tight fit
