I worked for the first HD video production company in the US back in 91/92. At the time, a single 3-tube camera and 1” open reel recorder cost well over $500k (in 91 dollars). What is most astonishing to me is that I am now able to acquire a higher quality image in such a tiny form factor for a fraction of the cost, without requiring an engineer (or three).

I think Apple is really missing an opportunity to create the BEST set up. Imagine your phone on a MagSafe tripod with a thunderbolt cable connected to your MacBook Pro... it's like a mini studio in a back pack. Set up 3 phones for different angles and you can do interviews, etc.

While having ProRes on an iPhone is awesome, the throughput limitation for transferring data is maddening. What’s the point of having a Ferrari if you can only drive it on local roads at 20mph/kph? Thanks for this video, and thank you for taking the sideline. I mean I like your videos but sometimes you just mumble a bit too much, that’s just personal preference forgive me if you find that offensive.
But taking the sideline and letting the Profesional speak in an interview and help explaining it does make things easier for the layman viewer like me who likes to understand more about tech but don’t have the knowledge to do it.
Great job! Keep up the good work.

I’m gonna take this with a pinch of salt as you can have a small specialist camera with ProRes instead of using an iphone. This could be Apple paying for advertising for the iPhones as the cameras are very much from Sony.

You know, some video professionals come on this channel as guests and their video and audio quality is horrendous. This guest, on the other hand, really did an excellent job of having great video/audio from his side and so we could concentrate more on the message than horrendous quality that occurs with some other guests (not Gruber; his video/audio, which I understand was from the new MBP, was excellent as well). And this guest really sounds like he knows what he's talking about lol.

You are all so silly. ProRes isn't pro resolution, ProRes is a compressed format. Uncompressed video is unaltered, full-resolution video. Each frame of video is fully represented in its purest form. Compression tries to interpret the same video but in a smaller file size.

obviously the video / Camera on iPhone 13 is just beyond this world. Then why should I have Whatapp or tinder in a such a beautiful “phone” .
Apple could perhaps create a totally new device just for video without sim or all those other disruptions.

Good informative interview. However, I’m not the guy who flies to Africa to go on safari and films giraffes in ProRes so this stuff is almost completely irrelevant to me personally. I do, however, empathize with your pain over the damnable Lightning connector. That’s just ridiculous on Apple’s part.

Yes Rene could you, and other pundits please stop talking about the "dreaded notch", and the size of bezels. Professionals, and normals need the best tech when it comes to the connection port. Apple needs to put UBS4 host mode all options on its devices like the iPhone. That would give us 40 Gbit/s data transfer rate when connected to any of the new Apple M1 series mac's.
