Live Text is one of the most underrated features from iOS 15. The ability to scan, copy, and paste text from any image means the possibilities are endless. Instead of physically typing or writing, you can *literally* take a photo of anything and have peace of mind knowing you can just add it your notes later! 👌🏻
Yeah, it's one of the best new features and it's great it's coming to all the platforms

It’s so stupid that most of the features of ios 15 are not available on iPhone X or even earlier models. Not worth the big upgrade from iOS 14 to iOS 15

@@salmonars As far as I know, this feature also is available on Google Lens (if you have an android device). It's probably worth giving that a go before spending $1000

Samsung overhypes useless technology that literally nobody uses, and you end up hsve each app 3 times when you first open the phone and even a physical button that connects to their brain dead ai bixby. I bought an s10 at launch and it was torment believe me, switching to apple was the best tech related decision I have made since I boycotted every Chinese owned brand
@@PanosPitsi have you seen OnePlus, Xiaomi, etc even Apple. Another the the 3 apps thing is for markets where Google service aren't a thing alot of the Samsung apps are better just the user base are more known about Google when you say useless you got to keep in mind it may be useless to you but someone else in a different city or country may need or use on a regular bases. You are NOT SAMSUNG ONLY CONSUMER
I graduated college last May and the only thing I can think about is how much I would have loved Live Text in that time. I took so many whiteboard pictures and just wanted to pull lines of text from PDFs virtually everyday.

All clever stuff and I know it’s only an example but surely Rene could just forward the photo to his family member in order for them to get the address! Like a human being!

@@jamesnyers1721 well I think he did say it was to address a parcel so that generally involves some old school writing down and I’m pretty ancient and can still read text on an iPhone photo well enough to address a parcel without reaching for my specs!😂

I have really been enjoying this feature with my online class. We still have physical textbooks and I can just take a picture and just grab the math problems, important sentences/paragraphs, etc.
This feature works amazingly with Google Lens for years! All these little incremental updates coming to iOS and people applauding shows they have not used an Android device before. Surprising.
I’d never use an android device to get a subpar experience. I’d rather wait till it’s baked into the operating system and works flawlessly
@@AnonymousOG I think the bigger issue with android is fragmentation. Choice is great but it’s a double edged sword.

It will be interesting to see how this impacts accessibility. I would assume that VoiceOver would be able to read it. This could make all the image-based PDFs accessible to everyone.
So, like Google lens for iOS.
One reason I've used Google photos on my iPad, and one of numerous reasons I switched to pixel. (Like record and voice to text)
I mostly work in pdfs and your comment about Live Text working in pdfs that are just images and not text just blew my mind. So many times I've needed to transfer info from those to others and have had to type it or write it out. This is a game-changer for me

TextSnipper is a great (better?) alternative. Any text on the screen (unselectable text on a web page or in an image) can be captured. No TextSniper on iOS though, so LiveText will be great on my phone. TextSniper won’t deal with most handwriting though.
This is even more powerful for accessibility. Think about how much better VoiceOver is going to be when it can read images too. - I already run my PDFs though OCR so I can use speak selection with them. This is going to make all that so much nicer

Yes, it's a wonderful feature and it really works. Except, when you live in a country with strange characters, like æ ø å Æ Ø Å. So, for now, only useful for english for most of Europe context. And language, be it Siri reading street names, contact names and Live Text, is a frustration because, it takes years before Apple to learn all the languages in depth.

All text? My language sadly have characters like ěščřžýá and it cant read that at the moment. I hope it will one day. :)
Does Live Text work well in language like chinese korean japanese Cyrillic Arabic?

I promise it cannot read my handwriting. I can't read my handwriting. That means I can't teach it what to do. That said, this sounds useful. Your description also helps me to understand what that neural engine does, although perhaps not how. What it does is learn from experience like people. I wonder if it could be used in a much more vital area, that of interacting with MDs to help them diagnosis diseases better?
I’m pretty sure they are doing this. In fact I remember hearing somewhere that they have pitted machine learning algorithms against human doctors and the algorithm provided accurate diagnoses more often (for instance, when looking at CT scans to find tumors).
I wonder if it can read my doctor’s handwriting.

This Intel thing is a direction that can yield much advantage to apple, a direction that they should and can explore more
I am not talking about the globe in maps or anything specific at all, and I do recognize that people will never be satisfied...
yet there’s something more then just the features themselves, sometimes only apple can do right now, and that is going beyond to make apple the best experience no ifs or buts, intel Macs might soon be relics of a different era but until they are those users can be bought in a different manner...

Any feature that apple is putting on M1 that can be achieved with intel processor too. do just want to push customers to M1. I can share some many apps that does the same upload image and it will allow you to select the text even on browsers.

I'm also considerate and realize when people are under stress the ability to give them what they need without forcing them to do extra, error-prone steps is a terrific capability. Its always better to be empathetic than cynical, no?

I really like your videos but please don't be biased towards Apple for all topics. A constructive criticism is also expected in some cases. It really feels like you're promoting Apple's products and service too much as if it's not sufficient by other UA-camrs you recently highlighted

lol it’s been available on Google translate and Samsung Bixby for years. Hell even Microsoft OneDrive offers it free, cross platform. Cool to see Apple follow the trend but making it native in OS. I’d like to do more with my 12 Pro Max. Pro should mean more than just better battery 🔋 and cameras

So they are pushing it to GPU. ( 7:19 ) They could’ve done that from the day one since whole industry is using GPU for ML, but no, they were using this feature to advertise M1 Macs. While it's not wrong to say that hardware accelerated M1 is faster in tasks like OCR, disabling it on Intel Macs was just pure sh!t and the bashing they’re getting for doing so is right move from the community.
